DROID 3 Looking at New Update from Motorola as Well

The DROID 3 is apparently next on Motorola’s list of phones to update. After receiving word that the DROID 2 would see an update in the near future, the Moto Feedback Network is inviting D3 owners along for a similar ride. It’s not going to be Ice Cream Sandwich either, something we know from Verizon’s list of Android 4.0 devices that was released yesterday. Probably just a bug fixer.

Hi,

Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are inviting owners of the Motorola Droid 3 on Verizon to participate in an early preview of a new software release, and provide feedback. If you are not currently using a Droid 3, please excuse and ignore this email.

Click this link to take a short enrollment survey if you wish to take part. Note that you must be a member in good standing of the Motorola Owners’ Forums to be included. The registration window is can close without notice so please respond as quickly as possible.

This is a confidential test under the terms of the Motorola Feedback Network. Do not post any details or information about this on any public sites.

Thanks — please understand that start times are always fluid. We ask for your patience if you register but don’t hear from us right away.

I think they did this to shut us up for a while. I didnt get anything past, welcome to the tester group thing, I just really hope that the camera issues get fixed.

I got the email but I’m not jumping on it. Root is too important to me.

    • Josh

This update will un-root my D3, and will prevent me from re-rooting it again after the update?

  • ocdtrekkie

It’d be nice if the Motorola Support Forums supported multiple phones in a profile. Picking between listing my Droid 3 and my Droid Bionic… it was an easy choice. So I won’t see this update till it OTAs.

I hope this doesn’t have any more bugs.

  • Donnavon Hallgren

I’m already on .906 so hopefully this is it :)

  • Mikel61101

This sucks I cant get the update on my rooted D3 because when I go to unroot my phone the stupid thing says I dont have a backup to revert to… Hmmm

  • Knlegend1

    If its not ICS I don’t care…

  • h20534

Its funny because Verizon never said the Droid 3 and X2 weren’t getting ICS. It just wasn’t on the list, much like it’s still in the “Planning and Development” on Motorolas website. Furthermore, the Verizon site said they would update the list as they hear more from manufacturers.

No where does it say that the Droid 3 and X2 won’t get ICS. Does whoever wrote that article know how to read and use context properly?

    • Darthseph23

Technically speaking, in the context he uses, the statement on ICS isn’t incorrect.  This update is not ICS, especially given the evidence that Verizon has not listed the device on their ICS rollout at this time.

If your opining that the prior article insinuates that it isn’t by comments made there, well, that’s another matter.

      • h20534

Yeah I was talking about the article that was posted yesterday, not necessarily about THIS article

    • MicroNix

Is it not glaring obvious, with the last known Moto phone getting ICS targeted for the END of 2012 that the D3 will never ever see ICS?  I give you credit for optimism, but by the time Moto would even *think* about ICS for the D3, it will be time to buy a new phone.  And guess what fans, its not gonna be a Moto phone for me unless its the Nexus.  If it doesn’t say Nexus on it, send it back!

      • h20534

Motorola just released a pretty massive update for the original Droid X. That phone is what, two years old at this point? So I wouldn’t say its “glaringly obvious” that Moto would drop support for the Droid 3 after 7 or 8 months on the market…

  • buttlicker

    t-bolt ics update nao plzzzzzz

  • moelsen8

hey another phone motorola’s going to kill root on.  wonder if they had time to fix anything else.

  • Lowbar

Can someone provide the link?  I guess I’m not a part of this feedback network.

    • droidian1441

You have to join the feedback network to do it. Are ya a member?

  • KristofferXavier13

bought time… that thing was buggy as hell…

  • Lovehate

the list is incomplete and says more devices to be added.but no this isn’t ics.

  • droidian1441

    I hope its one of the 3 updates I leaked for the D3 (5.7.902, 5.7.905, and 5.7.906)

    • Chris

I’ve been on .906 the past couple days. It seems solid but I don’t see any noticeable changes from .905 which I was on prior.

      • droidian1441

I hope its 905 or 906 they will rollout.

        • Donnavon Hallgren

I’ve been on .906 for a couple weeks now.. Seems stable enough.. Hope this is what the update is.

I am guessing that samsung phone was some super secret super phone, since even my comment about it was removed?

    • Keithsmnr

Right before it was deleted, Kellex debunked it as a fake, the guy sent him more pictures, kellex checked EXIF image data, saw that it was taken with a design 4G, compared the photo to a design 4G (from the bottom) and the top of the phone (g nex) and saw that they were identical, troll/fake don’t worry about it.

  • Dude

What happened to the SIII article with the picture of a phone that looked like a GNex with a side plug?

Heres a comment, WTF just happened to the post that was of the “new” samsung phone or whatever? that dissappeared fast

    • Michael_NM

“…that disappeared fast.” I think you answered your own question.

      • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

        Meh.
