Report: Samsung Galaxy S II Not Making Its Way to Verizon

I know, bad news on a Thursday morning.  According to the Wall Street Journal and confirmed by Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney, Big Red will not be carrying the Samsung Galaxy S II…at all.   And I hate to say it, but we mentioned this very idea earlier in the week and are not surprised at all.  With our sources claiming that the Samsung Stratosphere is nothing more than a keyboarded Epic 4G variant, and with rumors swirling that Verizon will carry the Nexus Prime (made by Samsung), the SGS2 in their lineup made no sense.  We should also point out that we have pinged our sources numerous times over the last couple of months about the SGS2 on Verizon and they always come back empty.

Verizon would not elaborate as to why they would not be carrying the device, but did mention that they “have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge.”

In related news, the Galaxy S II will find its way to AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.  Each carrier’s variant is expected to be announced on Monday in NYC.

Thoughts?

Dont worry, iRizon Wireless is still getting the Atrix!

    • Dash Speeds

I see what you did there. Too bad the Bionic is significantly different from the Etna/Atrix, still, clever.

I wonder who’s doing this is? I think its Samsung not wanting to redesign their “pretty” little phones, trying to keep it thin and light, and putting an LTE chip in there would scratch that. They would have to redesign the whole phone for one carrier…My buddy (who loves everything Samsung and would never say a bad thing about them) is convinced that its Verizon’s move to not have the GS2. What do you guys think?

Next will be…Verizon not getting Nexus Prime….

  • SuckitJobs

One big reason Verizon is not going to carry the Samsung Galaxy S: iPhone 5. F’ Verizon, they can shove the iPhone 5 where the sun don’t shine.

Before leaving, Jobs probably pressured VZW to prevent too much competition for his precious Dildo Phone. If Verizon wasn’t getting the iPhone 5, you can bet they would have jumped through hoops to get it.

Thank Steve Jobs and Apple for one final F’U before departing to us consumers.

  • jimbob

Senseless to have done it with the Prime coming.  Not a big deal in my book.

  • Craigg

I had a gut feeling that this would happen. My best guess is that they can’t incorporate the LTE radio along with the GSM/HSDPA radios due to size limitations. Without the global radios the Galaxy S2 is virtually identical to the Samsung Charge with a slightly faster CPU. If they made it a true global phone without LTE it would be similar to the Motorola Droid 3, and I would rather have the Motorola as it has a better quality radio plus the physical keyboard.

I hate to say it but without a great network the phone is not usable as most of our apps and daily use rely so must on good data and internet access. The other carriers just don’t have a good network. Not like Big Red anyways. People that want their vanilla phones will wait for for Prime. As for myself I’m getting my Bionic… Come on pre-order!!!

  • Bob

Really bites.  Nothing like the size of the SGS2.  Well we will see what the Prime or Vigor looks like.

  • The Joker

    Come on Vigor!

I’d trade a Galaxy S II for the Nexus Prime (assuming rumored specs are to be believed) any day of the week.  Vanilla Android over Touchwiz for sure.

Looks like the Bionic sales will have a nice increase now…

I simply had to thank you very much again. I am not sure what I would’ve used without the actual ways contributed by you about such a field. Completely was a alarming matter in my circumstances, nevertheless coming across the very well-written mode you treated it made me to weep over happiness. I am just grateful for this information as well as trust you are aware of an amazing job that you are getting into instructing men and women with the aid of your webblog. More than likely you’ve never got to know all of us.

What I love is that AT&T was rumored to get two different versions of the phone, but Verizon can’t offer a single one. Is it just me, or has anyone else thought that Verizon has been giving it’s customers some pretty crappy options compared to other carriers since they’ve started selling the iPhone?

Well, I am done with Verizon and their shit Motorola phones.  I command myself to the iphone 5.

    • Anonymous

Yeah if it had lte then maybe it would be in the running but I’m not gonna get stuck with a 3g phone for 2 years.

    • Anonymous

Then what are you doing here?  Have fun with your pretty paperweight.

      • ShockHouse

Little fanboy man. Without Apple convincing people they wanted/needed a smartphone your android would have died before it even came. I love Android but don’t be such an fanboy.                                                    DROID BIONIC

Nexus Prime or bust at this point… gew

  • NSBJJ

I was hoping for the Samsung Celox (Verizon’s version of Galaxy S II) was true.  The Vigor and Bionic are too close is size and specs to make a difference to me and the Prime won’t be released for months (Nov./Dec.)  So, it looks like the Bionic on September 8th for me.

  • http://twitter.com/teardropcity teardropcity

I am happy with my Droid Charge, the screen and battery life on the fast
4G network works for me. I enjoy a dual core on my tablet, because of
the bigger screen I use it more often for multitasking, but I don’t miss
    it on my phone.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QQHAVZAHNH7NYH5NPCEHYREXVM Sporty

I’ve considered the Charge but the biggest issue for me is the physical buttons on it. I want a cover and dealing with those will just be a huge pain in the…..

I say we blow up Verizon’s Twitter/Facebook accounts with complaints. It’s at least something to let them know how stupid this decision would be.

Wow. Theres a bunch of infants in here crying over spilled milk. The sgsll that hits the states isn’t even gonna be able to compete with the other versions. Their not even shipping with the exynos processor. Just a watered down phone to me. The vigor the LG revolution 2 the bionic the Droid HD and the nexus prime and the iphone 5 will hold Big red down for a good while. If its on the road map its coming out. Stop crying about the bionic. It will get here when it gets here and when it does haters skirts will flip to fan boy jeans as for seen. Some of you clowns be having me week acting like your day just got destroyed or sand was thrown in to your vagina. Sad and pathetic when all that’s left for you to do is hate. But we do only what we are meant to do. At least you know your roll, but that’s not saying much…

    • VerizonSUkhard

WTF r u that ignorant gs2 when sprint sells it on the sept 9th will have the same exynos processor and specs with maybe a slightly bigger screen and larger battery. I dare any other phone to try and compete. Vigor still uses the slow-mo adreno gpu, bionic already FAILED, nexus? don’t know who will get it, crapple, well… only a select kind of people likes those phones. I don’t know enough about the other phones, but I’m sure they cant compete.

      • Mr Blurryfingaz

The sgsll gt i9103 which passed through the FCC with cdma technology is running the tegra ll. I do my homework. The vigor will have dual core 1.5 ghz chips. Qualcomes second Gen smart guy. That’s 50% more power then the tegra ll if its clocked at 1ghz since we haven’t seen no tegras at 1.2. T.I. chips smash on both of those which the bionic has. Know what your talking bout dude before you comment. Even at 1 ghz its a beast. Look beyond the specs and a little more at capabilities and you might learn something.

    Are you f’ing kidding ME!?!?!??!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!

Yay… good job Verizon! Best selling phone in the world and you pass… Does this sound familiar to anyone?

  • rrosotho

Im not suprised at all Verizon has the best coverage but “ok” phones. Its like Verizon is holding back on thier phone selection. They have been like this for years now. But on the other hand wouldnt you want the best phone with the best coverage?

I could care less about the gs2 and never will since i hate touchwiz. I’m excited for the Nexus Prime for myself simply for vanilla android and the 720p dual core goodness it’s not confirmed but it is in the Vzw system as tba but for some reason that it doesn’t happen then Bionic all the way.

  • Anonymous

Am I the only one who feels that VZW has good service & mediocre phones?!?!?!??!?!?!  FFS VZW listen to your customers already!#@%!@%#

    • Sporty

I’m getting that impression a bit myself. Seems other carriers are moving ahead with some impressive devices and Verizon is happy with the iPhone and whatever else. The Bionic should be good for them but having one isn’t gonna save them and the other ‘coming’ phones are just that…still coming. So was the GSII….how did that turn out?

  • Anonymous

They’re not carrying a Galaxy S II branded phone.  So Droid Charge 2 or Nexus then.  Hopefully Nexus.

  • Dave

As much as this news sucks…it’s not really shocking.

I’m also not expecting the Prime to show up on Verizon’s doors. Not anytime soon at least.

  • Anonymous

Verizon also may not like that fact the Samsung dropped the ball with the Fascinate and the phone not ringing when peopled called people.  Took 2 firmware updates and months to fix.

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

    F**K!

Son of a bitch. Verizon, I effing hate you.

    • Dash Speeds

The Bionic doesn’t have physical keys.

      • Anonymous

That’s obvious. I never said it did. I just said I am not getting the Bionic.

        • Dash Speeds

Why mention anything about your Droid X then? lol

          • Anonymous

Take a minute to comprehend what I’m trying to get across. My Droid X is going down the crapper; therefore, I am waiting for a new phone.

          • Sporty

The Charge has physical buttons too. You know that, right? That’s one of the reasons I’m shying away from it. Otherwise it seems like a nice phone.

          • Anonymous

Don’t press the buttons so hard next time……and yeah the Charge has physical buttons as well.

  • Daddy1luv

     I’m getting Bionic..

  • http://iamandroid.co/profile/rocktoonz Rocktoonz

Look at the bright side.  The last Galaxy S phone Verizon had, the Fascinate, was all Bing-ed out.  This likely would have been as well being the newest iteration of the same phone family.  So, no Bingy GS device on Verizon.

    • Anonymous

True. Verizon would’ve just ruined another good phone by loading it up with crap. That and it would never be getting an update…

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

There can be 12 Motorola phones but Samsung can only have a few at a time doesnt seem fair to me but oh well the bionic it is

YES! BOYAH ALL YOU SAMMY FANBOYS!! I’m getting the Bionic on day one!

  • dima

Sounds like confirmation we are getting the Nexus Prime to me…

  • Legoturte92

I kinda laugh at all the people who mocked the Bionic and saying that the SGII was better and that they are strictly waiting for that. I for one was going to pick the out of those that I thought was best of the phones and now that the SGII is gone it’s between the other two…unless I get tired of waiting and jump straight on board with the Bionic, which I was going to do when it was originally announced.

  • Anonymous

Extensive, exschmensive.  I do NOT like Motorola phones whatosever, for multiple reasons, and I while HTC phones are okay to a point, I have some issues with them as well.  Samsung is my brand of choice, and Verizon hasn’t given them much respect at all.  The Droid Charge is not an option because it’s too expensive, and there is no LTE service where I live, and there likely won’t be for quite a while still, so it’s pointless to waste the money on it.  All I can say is Verizon had better darn well get the Nexus Prime.

  • Anonymous

I was going to get the Galaxy over the iPhone 5. But now it’s not coming out for Verizon, I guess I’ll have to go with the Iphone..

  • Joshua Granville

Well this makes my decision easier.  Bionic it is.

  • James_Ever

I am going with that the reasoning why this isn’t coming to Verizon because of the revision of the Bionic and all the money they are going to put into marketing it…after its released it seems and having the two of them compete would mean losing more money. Sorry for those that wanted this but other phones are on the horizon and it may be worth the wait.
