Another DROID Bionic Speed Test, Showing Off Its 4G LTE Capabilities

Possibly the cleanest snapshot of the DROID Bionic yet, showing off its super fast 4G LTE speeds. This latest picture was snapped by Yoda Man over at the Android Forums, and he doesn’t mind giving us all a few little sneak peeks. No official word yet from Verizon, but we can only hope that we are not too far out. Anybody anxious for an announcement?

We know this whole delay fiasco has a few people turned off, but we are hoping once all the promo goes out, that people will fall in love again. Sometimes we wonder what would happen if September 8th just came and passed with no release. Riots? What is the Bionic’s top selling point in your minds? The 4G? 1 Gig of RAM? It’s not the i*hone 5?

Via: Android Forums

Cheers Michael!

  • Teevo0108

No one has mentioned this but I have to wonder if the Motorola laptop dock will now support Google chrome. Instead of the other one. I sure hope so. I think that would be really awesome.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this thing is more of a small tablet than a phone???

  • Pennywise

I can’t wait for the BIONIC!!

How many phones (or any product for that matter) do you know of that were debuted to the public (CES) by the manufacturer, and then re-tooled based on ‘customer feedback’ to provide consumers with a product more in-line with their desires?

    Cheers Moto!

This was an awesome phone six months ago, but now it is just good. Does it have any single awesome feature that makes it far and away superior? Maybe dual core and lte on the same phone but thats it.

    Any drawbacks? That screen.

Any1 notice the battery Indicator???? A sign of things 2 come???? Not hating on the device, just pointing it out….I’m an HTC guy, so obviously I can’t brag about battery life!!!! Also thought it was quite funny that 1 of the BIONIC twitter accounts has been tweeting from an iphone, cant remember which 1 it was. No big deal, just figured if he/she wasn’t using the BIONIC itself they would be using a MOTO/ANDROID device

I just paìd $22.85 for an ìPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her her Canon EOS Rebel Camera that we got for $38.78 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $625 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHub.còm

Looks alright but seems like it will be huge. Been waiting so long might as well wait another month for the vigor/revolution 2

  • Anonymous

As excited as I was about this phone, why am I yawning right now… o_0

  • Marc

This thing is looking really sexy. Better be worth the waiting… and waiting… and waiting… Moto. I still want it though.

  • CineSLR

The only reason why it will be the first dual core LTE phone has to be because of a contract with Verizon.  Once the bionic comes out, the flood gates will open and the other phones probably being pushed back will then get their chance (with current hardware)  Unless its Dual 1.5ghz I’m holding out until the release of the Sammy…

  • lbadvisor

lovin my t-bolt I purchased on release day back on St. Paddy’s, with CM 7 I get a day’s worth of charge with all-day 4g signal.  Bionic can’t support data and voice simultaneously I’m reading here: http://popherald.com/technology/motorola-droid-bionic-lte-google-android-phone-not-a-photon-4g/9676

  • Legoturte92

Am I the only one who thinks that they should of changed blur to a red color for the Droid line. I think it would of gone a lot better with the color scheme of things.

    • Anonymous

I was thinking the same thing.

  • Zahhh

that mortorola was aquired by google

  • James_Ever

I am not anti Bionic in anyway for those waiting so long for it and I hope you get what you want out of it.

But why does everytime a somewhat clear picture comes out the battery is almost dead? I really hope the battery life is good though.

    • Anonymous

I was wondering the same thing. Thought they were getting such great battery life out of it? Just seems strange every pic that has come out has either been charging or low battery. Seems strange.

No way, man. I realize it’s about preference, but Red is obnoxious and hard on the eyes. The blue is nice and neutral and a darker shade. Maybe a darker red like a maroon. But VZW red… I would have skipped the device all together.

For me, its biggest selling point is its locked bootloader.  Oh wait, nevermind, I won’t be buying anything that goes against the free spirit of android.

  • Anonymous

Wow…at least the greatness of that score overshadows the ugliness of the phone…

    • http://twitter.com/eatmode4life Ray Mendoza

I dont know about that. It is one ugly phone.

  • Bjorn

did any one notice that the speed test app isnt full screen on the Bionic? on my Droid X is Full Screen

    • Anonymous

Because of qHD, speedtest doesn’t support the resolution.

September 1st will be web sales.  They will probably confirm this either late this week or early next week.  September 1st for websales and September 8th in stores.

I plan to buy on the web or over the phone so I can have it ASAP.

  • Anonymous

    Ok…as for losing interest.

I have 8 lines of service with Big Red.  I have had to visit the Verizon store multiple times since the announced Bionic.  I have been had SEVERAL Verizon employees try to get me to upgrade MY phone.  I refused and when asked why…I stated I was waiting for the Bionic and was pretty ok with my DX.  The employees either did not know what the Bionic was or would argue with me saying it would NEVER be released…it was scrapped.
                                           Still…I had faith.
I had faith in May…telling my children and husband…to all pitch in together and get it for me for mothers day.
    It did not happen.  Delays…
                                          Still, I had hope.
July rolled around….and I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary wanting only one thing….The Bionic (not even jewelry)….and…with all the teasing…still no Bionic.  So…no anniversary gift yet..husband holding money for Bionic in a hand with a new wedding band and a beautiful new Citizen watch … my gifts to him.
Now I am SERIOUSLY second guessing myself.
I look at the facebook page for the Lightning Moto Giveaway of Phantom…and the entry page has a pull down to select your CURRENT phone  is…believe it or not..,.a Droid Bionic. ggrrrrrrr.

    Moto teases…and teases….

I have no idea how I even feel about the Bionic as of now.  I have supported, defended and anticipated this phone for so long.  If Moto can make a person like me waiver in my support it is an amazing accomplishment.

If it does not appear before school starts…..I will have to contend with teachers I work with all chattering about their I*h*n* 5 that will be released the following week. (Of course was talking about the Bionic at work at school year’s end)  Trust me…where I work I am a the lone Droid user…it is some special kind of Fruit Hell.

So….this had better be one AMAZING phone…BTW…my birthday is in October…maybe…maybe…maybe.

    • TomHolmes

Moto’s boss says it will be out in September in a recent interview. Rumors and retail systems are pointing to September 8th. Motorola has delayed the phone once. They were vague about when the new time-frame was to be. They have remained silent except for the aforementioned reference to September.

I share your frustration as I’m sure many here do, but it is good to remember that the vast majority of the fits and start and broken promises came from the rumor mill, and not from Motorola or Verizon. Are they being intentionally coy to generate buzz? I suspect they are, but nothing wrong with that.

      • Anonymous

Thank you for replying…I understand your thoughts but…
In Jan Moto announced the unit at CES…then in
April The New DROID BIONIC: Coming Soon press release
         http://mediacenter.motorola.com/Fact-Sheets/Motorola-DROID-BIONIC-Fact-Sheet-353a.aspx
Then …verizon wireless released a sign up now more info on the bionic
        http://shop.verizonwireless.com/?id=Droid%20Bionic

I believe their buzz is been drug out so long it is starting to fall on deaf years.

Unfortunately I have gone from being 100% sure of wanting to Bionic to be swayed by GS2 or Vigor…I will probably still end up with the Bionic..but will not be as confident in my decision after nearly nine months passes.

Moto could actually advertise the Bionic as their baby arriving…it took the same amount of time for it to be delivered…  LOL

        • Trooper

          Great post! :D

        • Anonymous

I am waiting for August 29th…so over Moto at this point.

    • Pete

m pretty sure that will be ur birthday gift!

    • Flippindewd

You sound like me – I’ve been waiting so long and telling everyone about the bionic – “it’s coming out in a few weeks!  It’s gonna be awesome!”  Then it gets delayed.  then they ask me “did you get your phone?”  All I can say is :   Now I have to go back to school.  I just hope not many people (friends and teachers) ask if I finally got the phone that I had been waiting for about a year now.  It is embarrassing.  I just hope it comes out very soon.

  • docking

To answer the life question….Yes, I have been holding out and the wait has been stressing me out.  Although, I don’t have 4G yet in my neighborhood, I want this phone, But, I will also let all of those here test drive it for me. (someone stated sellout….I didn’t know smartphones sold out!)

  • Dominick

The 4G, Dual Core, and what SHOULD be better reception for phone and data will be the biggest selling points for me. The HTC Thunderbolt was fantastic with 4G… but only outside. Once I closed the door, only 3g was available. But the other things are also important to make it worthwhile to upgrade from the Droid X.. The screen better be as good or better than the Droid X. I can deal with an extended battery and will likely have to get one regardless, but 15 hours will minimal or heavy use would be great. One thing that would have been cool would have been a fingerprint reader like the Atrix has, but they always seem to cut out several cool features when a phone comes to Verizon for some reason. I really also hope the sound is better than previous phones through which to listen to Pandora. Either way if the screen looks good, it has better phone and data 4G reception through walls/indoors, is fast and doesn’t slow down at all or any where near as quick as say the Droid X I will be more generally happy. The webtop dock is a cool addon. Will wonder if/how it will be hacked to allow it to be used with any laptop.

    • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

you were most likely in a limited 4G area. In 4G access areas, i have reception in buildings all the time

      • Dominick

It is on the edge of 4g access but I’d get all bars outside. Inside like 1 to 2 if WITH THE THUNDERBOLT upstairs with no 4g.. With the droid X ill get like 3-4 bars with 3g everywhere. 4g is supposed to permeat buildings better. Downstairs 1-2 bars with spotty reception. But with the thunderbolt 0 to MAYBE 1 bar with dropped calls every 20 seconds and of course no 4g let alone much if any 3g. Im thinking motorolas radio as others have reported is much better than htcs. Im hoping this applies to 4g and call signal strength for the bionic as well.

I’m more impressed by that 43ms ping rather than 35mb down. I get 26/12 but I can’t get anywhere close to that as a ping. Usually I’m about 300ms.

  • Anonymous

They will release it after the iphone 5 hits stores…

  • Anonymous

I don’t know if I want it now with the possibilities the merger is opening up but…

    1) I don’t like Sense, and my city has 4G now
    2) I have the OG, it’s running strong, but it’s definitely time
    3) RAM/Processor got me sold, as I’m using an OG

Still wish there was a comparable phone with a slide out keyboard.

Honestly Moto missed the bus on this one still a good device, but with 1.5ghz + devices coming out Moto slipped up.

HTC and Samsung have surppassed Moto recently with upcoming releases that leave Moto in the dirt. Plus is this device UNLOCKED????

Why buy a Bionic when better HTC & Samsung devices will be out very soon

    • Anonymous

Really? the Vigor is vaporware at this point in time and the Bionic really does have a confirmed release month. People complain about how they release phones to early but when a company saw a big problem they held the phone went back to the drawing board and came up with a new design and people are blasting them for it! Now the first dual-core 4G LTE is coming out and people are acting like the first phone of its kind is old???.

Personally, I will be waiting for Christmas to choose my next phone, but I really bet it will boil down to one key feature or two on a phone that I like over another that makes me get it. Not that the processor is slightly faster.

      • Anonymous

Dude, Really?? Vaporware?? LMFAO you must be joking, if you think Moto did a outstanding job on the Bionic’s redepolying this device. First I am not one one of those haters on Moto BUT!!! If you think 6 months later to redeploy is taking care of things and fixing software then you don’t know anything about SDLC and fixing bugs. Moto has done a horrible job in that catergory this phone will be VAPORWARE as soon as 3 to 4 weeks after it’s in stores. Please stop drinking the Kool Aid and do some research on Software development.

Oh, The other devices I mentioned will have better specs and than the Bionic’s early 2011 specs. Do some research thats all I am asking you!!!

    • Jbernard703

So you would rather spend more?  lol.

    • Spencer9663

Where do you buy your drugs? I think the fact that this thing is so huge will be a turn off when compared to the SGSII.

      • Anonymous

First of all your mom sell us the drugs and The SGS11 does not have the features the Bionic has. Verizon probably won’t get it so no LTE. An oh yeah it’s a Samsung so updates will hit Moto phones first HAH!!

        • Spencer9663

Was that your attempt at a comeback? Any variant of the SGSII will be super thin and have the SAMOLED screen. The colors on LCD and qHD screens are just not as vibrant as the SAMOLED, kind of the reason why Samsung is most likely going to win the Nexus bid… again…

          • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

there not as vibrant but there more crisp and clear…so there are pros and cons to both

          • Anonymous

Dude…. super thin = no LTE radio, and the “SAMOLED” colors are over saturated!!! they look fake. The phone has no HDMI out without some expensive adapter. And lets just say it does come to Verizon and has LTE, the chassis of the phone would have to accommodate the hardware so a complete restructure of the phone would be necessary and probably won’t use the same components as the original SGS2, and will have to be thicker, so it’s probably not going to achieve the same benchmarks so its NOT the same phone!!! Wake up man!!! You’ll have to go overseas to get what you are wishing for. SAD BUT TRUE….

          • Pete D’Antonio Jr.

Agree 100%, a dual core LTE phone with 1gb of ram is pretty future proof imo (better phones seem to be vaporware).  I don’t think we will see quad core or more than 1gb of ram in a little bit.  People put so much emphasis on the SAMOLED+ for nothing.  If the Bionic had a SAMOLED+, I feel like all the haters would have nothing to say.  I plan on getting the Bionic unless the Aug 29th Samsung announcement will bring the phone to market soon enough that I can hold both in my hand.

  • http://twitter.com/grilmasterweber kweber

        • LionStone

17/4 in Wake Forest…and going on 14 hrs in 4G :-) …interesting that the Bionic is still gonna be compared to the TB. 4G speeds are all gonna vary depending on location…

    • Anonymous

I get 24/15 on my Thunderbolt up here in Michigan.

  • http://twitter.com/myermenson Michael Yermenson

I want to see the actual thickness and weight, if this is as think as the tbolt, I’ll pass

  • Joshua Dudash

Cant wait to get this, but no 4g in my area yet :(

  • Anonymous

Other than the fact that it is a dual core + LTE, there is nothing remarkable about the hardware of this phone. Back at the beginning of the summer it might have been a different story. Moto definitely missed the correct launch window for this one. It might still be a great phone, but it just doesn’t stand out anymore. I’m looking forward to seeing it in person though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

How did they miss the correct launch window? There’s no other dual core 4G LTE phones out there. I don’t want to hear the Vigor because it launching within a month of the Bionic is highly unlikely.

      • Anonymous

Sure there are no dual core phones with LTE, but is dual core really going to be the killer feature of this phone? I think a fast single core with some unique hardware features would have been better.

    • Anonymous

      Yeah whatever dude.

This is a supercharged Droid 3 with Moto’s best software to date.  Show me something with better specs that isn’t a vapor phone coming out months later.

  • gtijim

yay 4g but oh thats right cant talk and web same time. tbolt still better. just give it gingerbread and call it a day

    • Jeffwoolf95

Um. It can do data over 4G and talk over 3G at the same time. No 3G talk and surf at the same time but why would it need to?

      • Anonymous

I have also heard that the whole no 3G SVDO may not be accurate….

      • gtijim

    • Corymcnutt

If you are in a LTE area you CAN talk and surf at the same time…talk on 3G and surf on LTE.

    • Anonymous

Yes you can on 4G.  LOL at you thinking the Blunderbolt with inferior specs is better because of such a stupid little feature.

  • ramifications

Wow. it looks really sexy in this shot. If this comes out in the next
few weeks as predicted, I think i will probably choose it rather than
wait who knows how many more months for the Vigor/GS2

My ThunderBolt gets those kinda numbers…

    • http://twitter.com/kilxler tony

Yea but awful battery life. Bionic wins.

      • Anonymous

Oh, I see. I thought it was showing off amazing downloads compared to the other 4G LTE phones. Thanks for the clarification.

      • Anonymous

We’ll see about the battery life. 350mah isn’t that much of an increase, especially paired with a dual-core processor. Although it does have a qHD screen…. bahaha.

        • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

          it is a big difference

        • Anonymous

That’s a 25% increase, it matters.  Plus Moto seems to have better battery optimization in general.  The OMAP4 also has dedicated Cortex M3s for much better power efficiency during processor idle.

      • LionStone

Uh huh, and you’ve used both extensively to compare…?

      • Anonymous

All it takes is the right rom, radio, and kernel to get amazing battery life on the Bolt. I hate all the bashers who either dont know what they r talking about, or dont know how to or dont want to get the most out of their phones by rooting and romming.

        • TheAndroid1

Or some people want things like good battery life out of the box.

There is a set of minimum expectations for a phone.  Rooting needs to take the phone past your expectations, not just get you to them.

          • Anonymous

I see your point, but you are highly mistaken if you think rooting did nothing more for my Bolt than help it meet already expected expectations. My phone runs just as smooth as the dual core evo3d, with the same Sense 3.0 3d rom its running. And im sure my battery life is better too. When rooting enabled my Bolt to easily compare and perhaps even surpass the best phone HTC has delivered thus far, you can hardly call that simply “meeting expectations.”

          • TheAndroid1

Sense 3.0 is a good point. Don’t you remember how many people were ending up with bricked devices when attempting to install this on their phones. Even the people who were really passionate about technology, even the people who were extremely technology-literate were having trouble. Most people don’t want that trouble, if they have to go through that (possibly ruining the device) to get a decent device they will go elsewhere.

        • Mario

I shouldn’t have to root and rom my phone to get te battery life the manufacture promised me. It should be that way or close to it out of the box

  • MJZ

    thats one sexy beast.
LTE + Dual core + Moto goodness = I WANTS

An HD stream from Netflix will not even come close to requiring that much bandwidth, IIRC it’s more like 4Mbps. Tethering a game system? The ping (which is great for a cellular connection) is much more important than the bandwidth. And downloading large files from WITHIN your home network? That has nothing to do with the device. I’m beginning to question how informed YOU are :)

          • Keith Sumner

Well I suppose sharing files across multiple platforms would only be possible over wifi within the same network, I know what I’m talking about :)

i heard the bionic can stream 1080p Netflix to an attached TV via hdmi

in time you will be saying “how can you have a phone without at least 30mbps speed?”

    • Eric Umbarger

tethering to a laptop to do some online gaming from a hotel while on a business trip…not that I would know cough cough.

    • Anonymous

Honestly?  If I get the speeds I’m hoping for, I play to cancel Comcast, and pay for tethering instead.  It still comes out to less than Comcast internet, and it’s faster.  And I can take it with me.  The biggest decider will be how hot the phone runs during extended tethering sessions.

      • Anonymous

They only give you like 2gb a month for tethering. That’s like one HD movie on Netflix.

        • Anonymous

I don’t stream movies, I game.  Still, I hadn’t considered the cap.  That seriously puts a dent in my desire to purchase a 4G phone.

          • Pete

no for a 4g phone u can sigh up with $30 unlimited tethering. the capped plan is for 3g phones only. i think!

          • Pete

o yeah the unlimited tethering is for those who already had unlimited data plan.

          • ping

The latency for gaming is around 130 ms at best.  That’s not very good if you play fast-paced multiplayer games.

          • Anonymous

Meh, I’ve played FIFA over a 3G connection. It’s not terrible, but it isn’t too great either. FPS would be a different story, but LTE seems able to do something like that.

        • Anonymous

Nope. If you have the unlimited data plan, you can add unlimited 4G tethering for $30/month. It’s really a good deal for someone single and in a good 4G area. No other ISP offers those speeds for that price.

          • http://twitter.com/danyay Dan

            Not true. 2GB tethering only.

          • Anonymous

No, it is true.  2 GB tethering applies to those on a tired plan, anyone with an unlimited plan has the option of an unlimited tethering plan as well for $30 a month.

          • Pennywise

            ^^^^^and this.

          • http://twitter.com/DavisDarvish Davis Darvish

no not true. it is unlimited tethering if you have the unlimited data plan. do your homework homie… i have that plan!

          • Anonymous

I know that Verizon’s twitter confirmed that the unlimited tethering would be available for those with the grandfathered unlimited data but nobody I have talked to at verizon can confirm it

          • Pennywise

            ^^^^This.

        • Gee

not true If you have unlimited data Big red will let you get the unlimited data tether for another 30 a month. Thats how i dumped comcast

I paid $23.88 for an i Pad 2 32-GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumiix GF 1 Camera that we got for $ 38.41 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 635 which only cost me $ 61.74 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it al from,

      Are you crazy?

      • http://fabdroid.com Andrew Xie

        Yes, apparently!

    • Pennywise

Because for $30.00, you can use it as your home’s internet connection.  I by no-means speak for everyone, but $30 for a 10+Mbps connection is alot better than what I currently have.  And I can take ‘my internet installation’ anywhere; fits in my pocket.

Bonus: there’s a little computer guy on my pocketable broadband internet connection too!!

    • Fattie McDoogles

I got 48mbit on my Thunderbolt

  • OG Droid

    Give me this phone!!!

    • TomHolmes

That’s not a Motorola Bionic! It’s a Google Bionic! Motogoogle? Moogle? Possibilities are endless.

Denver doesn’t give me more than 3.5mbps download, per the Speedtest app. Sad face here.
