Confirmed: Limited Stock of DROID X to be Available on Launch

There have been rumors over the last few days that the Droid X will have limited availability when it launches this Thursday. Some claimed that around 60 would be available per store, others are claiming even less. According to the screenshot we just received, it looks to be much less.

Of the 2 Portland stores listed above, one is a kiosk and the other is a fairly small (although downtown) store meaning we could see numbers closer to 60 at bigger locations, but we can’t guarantee that. Let’s just say that you might want to show up to wait in line slightly earlier for this one.

Oh and that screenshot we showed you earlier in the week which listed over 25,000 DX’s in VZW’s big Memphis warehouse has changed drastically. Shipments are definitely out to stores as the number has now dropped under 10K…

So how early are we thinking people? And are you still interested after the locked bootloader talk? Actually, save those thoughts, we’ll have a poll on that later today.

Update: Droid Forums is also reporting low inventory levels of the DX at launch. Their source is expecting the initial batch to run out in just a few days and to not be replenished for quite some time. Yikes.

Thoughts anyone? Motorola won’t allow this to be the next Incredible will they?

sales rep at my verizon store said about 200 Droids will be in the store on the 15th so im pretty sure 60 isnt that close to the actually number

Guys, I worked tech support for Verizon in a call center for 5 years, and I can tell you this – NO information on a particular device that is visible in any vzw database prior to device launch is to be taken at face value. In particular, inventory information can change daily, if not hourly. Let's see how those numbers look first thing Thursday morning before stores start opening before we all go into a panic…

Off topic, but I really want to get one of the roms built from source and I don't know which one to choose. Should I get the Saphire rom, or the insane nemesis rom. Which one is better, faster, nicely themed, has everything working, (skype)… Thanks!

I was one of, if not the first preorder at my local BB. I called back the other day to verify this and they said they really didn't have many preorders. I thought the whole point of the BB preorder was so Motorola knew how many to ship to each store. Maybe they didn't get a huge response and thus the small quantities shipping out (I realize that is BB versus VZW stores). Just cause they aren't shipping very many doesn't mean there will be a shortage, who knows how low the demand will be.

There is no preorder. It's more of a waiting list. They hold the phone for you when they get them. You have so many days to go pick it up before they sell it to someone else. If you are one of the first on the list you should have no problem getting one on day 1. Those who are close to last may have to wait till the next shipment

Trying to assure a majority of people that they won't have difficult in acquiring the device at launch. Don't try to cover up what you claimed to be the truth.

Btw, 25K devices in their main warehouse seems pretty limited seeing as the i*hone 4 managed to sell 1.6 million in its opening weekend. Just saying!

Where are the rest of the Portland VZW stores on that list. I've never been to Portland but Verizon's website lists 14 official stores within 11 miles of Portland and 40 authorized retailers. I don't expect to see the authorized retailers in the system but where are the other 12 Verizon Stores?

Guessing the system won't pull in a store unless it has a Portland address. The rest could be Beaverton, Tigard, etc.

Sounds plausible, but its not the case, the second one on that list is in Tigard and there are 5 on Verizon's website with a true Portland address.

Not really sure how Verizons inventory system works though, maybe the store has to receive the stock in order for it to show up in their inventory.

I am not going to get this phone right now. I decided to wait. If the boot loader can not be unlocked then i will just wait till it can or for a new phone that can! I am still happy with my Moto Droid.

Trying to snag one in Raleigh – ill get there as the store opens, but not too much earlier. In the same shopping center is a VZW store, Wolf Camera Kiosk, and BJs. I hope between the three I can get one

add a new line and cancel your old line they will transfer the number over so youll have the same number! thats what im doind on launch day!! but you might have to pay a termintion fee! which for me is $150 but after the rebate and stuff i save about $150-$250!

I sure hope that they have them available. Seems to be some continued confusion as to whether the 1st round of pre-orders will be guaranteed one or not. Defeats the purpose of a pre-order if they can't.
