Main reason I don't use roms is because you have to full-wipe between most build updates, which is fine for restoring purchased apps+data, but getting all the other account settings, sounds, alerts, etc. setup takes 1-1.5 hours every time (which could be every week if you want stabler builds)... I prefer the incremental updates from Google because it updates without having to start from scratch. I'm still rooted though (on stock). With that being said, I knew I would have the option of using roms in getting the phone, but I thought getting a Nexus would put me ahead of the curve (instead of having to worry about rom updates and wiping/flashing constantly). Verizon is solely to blame for this.

That may be true but logic would tell you the two are in no way associated. To believe otherwise would infer that Sprints timeline and process for updates are directly related to Verizon's in some way. That's just not true.

It doesn't work that way w/ CDMA phones due to proprietary drivers (carrier's software) that are required to be included w/ the software updates.
Me. I'm not rooted because I don't want to take the time & trouble. Seems like a steep enough learning curve and I don't want to mess up my phone. There's a whole different language that comes along with rooting & roms and I don't have the time or desire to learn it. Worse, the few times I've looked into rooting, the places I've gone seem to be speaking to people already in the know, not newbies. So, I've always been on stock, frustrated, but I don't do anything about it.

Now, I like 4.1-- a lot-- and I've heard of problems with 4.2, but still, yes, it's frustrating not to get a promised upgrade.

And, I read this forum daily.
