would this build happen to have the removable navbar with no reboot required?

  • zach

I can’t tell If this includes the the awesome battery saver mod that would turn off data while in sleep. Can anyone answer this?

  • John

    Appropriate

    • skynet11

      #blameWhitehawkx :-P

      • inzandity

Naw it wasn’t his fault. We were just waiting for him on the final sign off earlier, then it was “released”. We were waiting on the build bot is all.

        • skynet11

just picking on someone other than ProTekk and Xoomdev for a change :p

  • Jim McClain

have to admit,i’m a bit jealous of the wifes new S3

  • realfoxm
  • Breezer23

Ugh. I just flashed back to Cyanogenmod. Didn’t they say they (AOKP) rebuilt everything for JellyBean from the ground up? If so I may give this a shot because I found AOKP to be a bit slugglish towards the end of the ICS days.

    • navjot

Since they are both AOSP roms, you may be able get away with flashing AOKP right over CM10 by just wiping cache and dalvik cache. Just make a nandroid just in case.

      • http://twitter.com/RichWentz Rich Wentz

Dont be a dumbass, always do a clean wipe. It prevents any problems that would happen otherwise.

        • Breezer23

Amen but there is no reason to be a jerk about it. I always do a clean wipe. I have no life so it doesn’t bother me.

  • Jim McClain

actually bit the bullet yesterday and got the wife a new phone,,,S3

  • Jim McClain

so why would you want this instead of the Bugless Beast ?

    • fixxmyhead

      probably cuz its better

      • Jim McClain

        how so?????

        • Sean Stone

If you like as close to stock as possible with minimal customization, then stay with BB, but if you like a mostly stock feel, but the ability to customize the crap out of your phone, then give AOKP a try.

        • Breezer23

It has more features and focus’s on expanding the Android feature set. Bugless beast is about making the stock AOSP experience as fluid as possible w/o adding much in regards of additional features to the Android ecosystem.

        • fixxmyhead

this is official not a nightly also what the other guy said. i hate the aosp roms there so boring with very little customizations

    • Cam

BB is almost completely stock. This adds features.

    • Jeff Simpson

Bugless Beast is the AOSP “vanilla” build done by Peter Alfonso. “Vanilla” meaning no extra features added in, no major deviations from stock Android code, apart from the few specific fixes listed. This code is quite stable, since there isn’t anything new, really.

AOKP and other more heavily-modified ROMs add features. Features such as the Notification Power Widget (when you pull down the notification tray you get immediate access to turn on/off features like bluetooth, wifi, etc). You can modify the softkeys. Change colors, clock location, battery icon (add numerical battery percentage). Lots of tweaks in lots of places.

If you like stock jellybean just the way it is, Bugless Beast is a good choice. It’s pretty stable and has just enough necessary mods (tethering, root). If you like to tweak things, AOKP is a lot of fun. So many configuration options!

CM is a good choice, too, but their development cycle tends to be much longer, so it will be awhile still before we see a good release from them.

      • bose301s

There was a good release from them on Friday for CM10, CM’s nightlies from CM9 and now CM10 are equally as stable as any “final” release I have ever used.

  • tom

Very dumb guy here- How the the hell do u root a droid razr and put a custom root on it?

    • Boob Milk

You got the wrong phone for that.

      NEXUS FTW!

      • tom

In general how do u root a phone a put a custom rom on it

        • Boob Milk

Well you could root it, however getting a ROM on you phone, not impossible, but a huge pain in the a$$, and risky. I’d head over to XDA for your questions and answers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/

        • Jeff Simpson

There isn’t really an in-general, it’s different for every phone.

For an open phone like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, you plug it into a computer and run a command to unlock the bootloader, flash a new recovery image, and flash a new rom image. Very straightforward process.

For a closed phone like a Motorola, there’s a couple of extra steps at the beginning:
          1). Return Motorola Phone
2). Purchase Samsung or HTC phone
          3). Follow previous directions

          • fixxmyhead

bahaha made me lol so hard

    • fixxmyhead

lol u made a mistake buying a moto device

      • Jeff Simpson

I can’t upvote this comment enough!

    • nhizzat
    • http://twitter.com/bboyairwreck Eric Chee

check the Rootzwiki forums. thats what I did to root my Bionic which is essentially very similar methodology. Custom roms are not the greatest for the Razr/Moto phones cuz of their encrypted bootloader. Right now the site to download all those roms – DroidHive is currently down. They are relaunching it as RomBot so be on the look out for that in the forums. It’s easy to root but custom roms is a different story.

    • Aamir

go to DroidRazrRoot.com for the root..Go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792955 to see how to install a rom step-by-step. :)

  • http://twitter.com/antintyty Ant Fallin

I wonder how diff this is compared to the nightly from the 19th?

  • fixxmyhead

can someone chime in why the build bot needs to do more than one build? i dont get it. cant they just mirror it after?

    • Sean Stone

Each device needs a build customized for it. The general code is the same across, but device specific things need to be implemented as well.

      • fixxmyhead

ok thanks now i get it

  • http://twitter.com/romanbb Roman

Downloads will start appearing on the site tonight sometime. I ran into some issues with the buildbot per usual and it caused some delays.

    • Breezer23

Roman. Can we make love babies together?

      • http://twitter.com/romanbb Roman

        Not tonight

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1593169740 Chris Amaya

          What about tomorrow morning?

    • SD_Scott

Thanks for all the hard work Roman. Can’t wait to try this out!

    • Butters619

Any chance the HTC One X (AT&T LTE version) will be supported?

    • adb.push.Freedom

Heizenburg!!! Is this as good as the blue stuff?

      • Jimneezy

This is the meth thats in the bag he throws at the drug lord in next weeks episode lol

    • http://twitter.com/shaneplawson Shane Lawson

you want a good rom i would recommend jb sorcery they just droped v2 tonight and i cant explain how custom but mainly how unbelievably stable and perfect it is, just my 2 cents

    • michael arazan

I’d like this rom on my gnex, anyway you guys could make a how to on youtube for noobs?

      • inzandity

Go check out rootwiki.com…everybody over there is very helpful and there are a ton of tutorials on how to unlock the bootloader, root and flash roms. It’s all pretty easy…especially on the gnex. If you get stuck, feel free to send me a message over there…my user name over there is ‘Brian’

      • Archer

easiest way, wugfresh tool kit, youll find it here:
        http://www.wugfresh.com/

    • Philip A. Kaiser

2 major bugs I have noticed. 1. Device keeps turning the screen on instead of sleeping. Happens intermittently every 2 minutes or so, it just pops on. I flashed (clean) twice, but this does not stop. Also, noticed when my battery was dying, the battery notification “pop up” poppped up every couple seconds and would not stop until it was plugged in. Sorry man, going back to my last nightly that worked better. *Note* when using in normal operation, the Rom was buttery smooth. Unfortunately, these problems are too much to keep it loaded.

  • Mike

I’m running AOKP test build 8.18. I can tell you guys with confidence, flash this! The latest test build is near flawless, I’m sure you will be VERY happy with this official release.

  • Ryan

Figures I just flashed the August 19th build.

  • Booyah

    GO BUILD BOT GO!!!

  • http://peoplewho.tumblr.com wireless G

Anyone know which models they’re supporting with this release?

  • http://twitter.com/aeroadc11 Adam Call

sureRomLoved aokp ICS. Went to bugless jb for a short time but been on paranoid Android rom for a while now and love it. Hybrid and tablet mode and ability to change dpi of apps. How aokp kangs it bc as great as aokp is, not sure I can give up this interface.

  • Destroythanet

Nice! AOKP was my favorite ROM when I owned a GNex.

  • TheWenger

    YEAHHH!!!!
It’s a good day for Android.

  • bose301s

Beaten to the punch by CM10 though ;)

    • Acid’sMark

AOKP was started off of Cyanogenmod code… Soooo… They will always be second… Android Open KANG Project ring a bell?

      • bose301s

Mine was just a joke, that’s what I meant by the ;) Definitely good to see more major distro’s getting the JB builds up and running.

      • Sean Stone

It may have started that way, but they’ve come a LONG way on their own since and produce a product that is at least as good as CM. Almost all ROMs out there were started off of CM code at one point or another too, doesn’t make them any less awesome.

      • fixxmyhead

they may be second but please cm is so freaking boring. they dont even have rom controls.aokp has everything cm has and more. aokp>cm

        • bose301s

For me CM seems to run faster, be less buggy and give MUCH better battery life, I still say CM>AOKP, by a wide margin too.

          • fixxmyhead

            NO! just NO!

  • Good_Ole_Pinocchio

Finally a reason to root my GS3

    • angermeans

Wait. Is it for the Galaxy Nexus or for the GS3? Did I miss something?

      • Sean Stone

        Multiple devices

    • http://twitter.com/jdhas jdhas

Um. I think you’ve had a reason to root your GS3 from the moment you were first exposed to TouchWiz.

      *shudders*

  • itsacardigan

I assume the softkey mods will only require a reboot?

    • http://twitter.com/romanbb Roman

      Nope

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000300377969 Jeremy Adams

I guess we cant download yet? This is what the site says
    Downloads unavailable for this release

  • Ozyman666

I’m fairly noobish at this whole rooting thing, but is this for a specific phone model? I see the instructions say to copy to SD card, but my Nexus doesn’t have one.

    • Sean Stone

      For the Nexus, SDCard=Internal Storage

      • Ozyman666

Thanks. I’m currently running Bugless Beast. Guess I’ll give it a try.

    • ERIFNOMI

Carryover term. “SD card” means “user storage.”

But yes, ROMs are for specific phones.

      • Ozyman666

Thanks. So when the AOKP page starts listing downloads, a Nexus option should be available?

        • summit1986

Yes, either toro (VZW/CDMA), maguro (GSM), or toro plus (Sprint/CDMA), depending on which you have.

        • http://twitter.com/romanbb Roman

Yep. GSM = maguro, LTE = toro. Grab the appropriate one when it appears

  • El Big CHRIS

I’ve been waiting to root my replacement GNex just for this!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=548497404 Hans Dirk Kwazneski

Says there are no downloads available on their site. dafuq?

    • Lakerzz

Hah!! I noticed you went with the ‘disqus theme’ with your comment… :P

  • evulhotdog

Out of curiosity what is a notification wallpaper?

    • Sean Stone

The notification pull down from the top of your screen can now have it’s own wallpaper.

      • evulhotdog

There we go, thank you for the explanation! I was thinking what @paladaxar:disqus was thinking.

    • paladaxar

Haha…I was wondering the same thing. My first thought was that it changed your wallpaper to notify you of something — like you would have a special wallpaper for when you had a text, and another for an email, etc. I’m glad Sean Stone chimed in though, cause I thought my brain’s version was a little wonky (and entirely unneccesary) :)

      • evulhotdog

This is exactly what I was thinking! Almost like a live wallpaper that would change to a symbol or something when you got a notification… And yeah I thought mine was a little odd too!

        • Archer

there are live wallpapers that can reflect the weather, or one that reflects your battery level. altho neither is as customizable as we would like

  • zomygodowned

Love the new roms out, also I’m not sure if anyone noticed but Codename Android (cna) has come back a few weeks ago with jellybean!

    • John

Even better is BAMF Paradigm, which has been amazing.

      • zomygodowned

I was about to flash Paradigm when I found Codename again so I guess its going to come down to the features which I know CNA is always adding but I’ll give both a go

      • Lakerzz

^ This. Battery life is SUPERB!!! But starting to miss the features with AOKP. :-

        • nhizzat

          What features are missing?

          • Lakerzz

Notification wallpapers, re-organization of nav buttons, height and width of nav bar, just to name a few.

          • nhizzat

Bunch of fluff to me but enjoy it if you like it.

      • Billy

Don’t even hesitate to flash BAMF Paradigm. It has been the best JB Rom overall.

    • http://www.facebook.com/timothy.warne Tim Warne

Running it right now just flashed it this morning & so far its smooth though keyboard feels choopy but that could just be me.

      • swag

Ascent V3 is my favorite JB rom

        • erod434

It was mine until I tried commitio M1 by DHO

  • Mack

    From the release page:
“Builds will begin appearing on the JB build-1 release page as they are compiled by the buildbot.”

  • youngnamlee

AOKP is always my preferred rom! Thanks devs for all your hard work!

  • Trevor

hmmm Fitznugly’s version of AOKP or this can’t decide

  • Tyler

And to think i just flashed liquid smooth jb last night :/

    • http://twitter.com/Bhockey77 Court

You can always flash this tonight… right?

      • Tyler

Yeah probably what ill do once i get download link, just got the phone set up the way i like it and now i have to do it again.

        • youngnamlee

haha, I know the feeling :/

    • http://www.facebook.com/timothy.warne Tim Warne

I just flashed Code Named Android this morning coming from Peter Alfonso’s Bugless beast. :-/ I will be flashing this soon though.

    • adb.push.Freedom

Stick with Liquid Smooth for a day or two before you flash AOKP. Test drive it for a few days and I bet you will be back in no time after flashing AOKP. Liquid is killing it right now even in a Beta release. I have ran everything out there CM10, Jelly Belly, BB, AOKP Nighties (admitted crack flasher) and no one touches Liquid Beta 2 I just keep coming back!

      • OreoMan

I’m running Beta 2 right now. So far, so good. I’ll give another week or two to see is any of the battery bugs pop up like they did in the Beta 1 release.

      • Tyler

Ill probably stick with it for a couple days just because i’m heading off to college again and moving in will eat up some time. So far its been pretty good tho. I’ve gone through a lot of roms (BB, Jelly Belly, BAMF Pardigm, Vicious 4.1.1 v1).

  • Mark

    Thank you aokp!

  • Jeff Simpson

    AHHH, so mean!

  • ERIFNOMI

We’re at the mercy of the build bot.

  • Ziltoid

Awesome! Flashing this when I get home from work

    • Sean Stone

      When you get home? Weak.

      • swag

Noob. I flash ROMs while driving home from work lol

      • DanSan

i flashed a rom one time while in the chair at the dentist office. no time is a bad time to flash a rom lol

        • Dan

Especially when work is paying you!

  • sean.yesmunt

    Yes!
