They say the problem is supporting phones with unlocked bootloaders, but
anyone that want’s an unlocked bootloader doesn’t need to call for
support in the first place!

In the play market their is a non rooted app that allows the phone to tether devices and make your wifi hotspot for free, thanks to droid life for pointing it out. just an fyi. And I too will move on when/if they remove my g-fathered unlimited data too, and will go to sprint in 2013 they will have their true lte network started and running.

Verizon can’t legitimately control all “unapproved software” on their network. They allow Mifi devices to use LTE, and allow you to pay for tethering (official tethering). They can’t legitimately restrict unapproved software on their network, so their reasoning does not stand.

I agree. It just makes more steps for people who want to unlock and/or root, and will cause more damaged devices imho

The truth is, the unapproved software they don’t like does not come from the market. It is the type of software that manipulates the read only memory; i.e., custom ROM’s. The problem is that people like you and I who are smart enough and bold enough to realize that we have already paid for our data and won’t pay for it twice know that flashing custom roms will allow us access to our wifi tether. We effectively (though rightfully) eliminate a potential revenue stream for VZW. The CEO is actually brilliant in the fact that he stopped fighting us and said, “if you want unlimited tethering, I’ll give it to you. But, it will cost you. How’s $50/gb sound?”

The share everything plans, encrypted bootloaders, and the phasing out of unlimited data plans entirely, all point to one thing: VZW has declared war on the Super User. I, for one, am moving on and will fight this war with my wallet my friend.

So does verizon still support the app market? That is unapproved software, or did verizon test every app in the play/ amazon market, not to mention the off market apps? Downloading an app is software like a modded os not to mention skins to put on your device like nova launcher. So are they going to ban people from using the play/amazon market on vzw? Somehow all this stuff is suppose to affect their secret propietary 4g network, that’s why ota updates take so long, because vzw won’t allow google or phone companies have the code to update the software and verizon adds it after the update is ready, and then “tests” it for 4-6 months.

They are just opening themselves up to more problems as it will be hacked but often times in a more dangerous (to the device) manner and potentially resulting in more “warranty” claims. By just leaving it open, the people that want to hack can do it safely while most consumers go on with no notice of anything different at all. In all honesty, those that want to modify their phone will. It is that simple.

sad thing is though very few, they actually do have trainers that are that in depth as we are but the higher ups more or less give them the basement maneuver, more or less if your willing to play ball we will let you out kinda thing lol

That’s exactly the point that I wish VZW would understand. The one’s rooting and flashing don’t need your help. I only need you if the hardware itself is broken, not the software…Unfortunately, there are people that try to game the system when something goes wrong. Those people should be kicked int he nads…
