TSF Shell Pro Released on Android, Say Hello to the Coolest Launcher Ever for $17

TSF Shell Pro was teased back in mid-December, dropping jaws of Android fanboys across the globe. The launcher looked extremely similar to a UI from TAT that we saw way back in the day, but with a ton of added functionality. It has a lasso tool for multi-selecting, incredibly polished and animated widgets, a 3D card switcher, and so much more. Well folks, it’s now available on the market for a whoppin’ $16.80. The price may be steep, but I’ve had a chance to play with it for all of 5 minutes now and am enjoying the hell out of it so far. There is one catch though, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is showing up as not compatible. I was able to load in on my GSM Nexus without issue, so I’m not exactly sure why they have blocked that device. Then again, you could always try our Google Wallet trick.

Update:  The widgets are all in the market now – links added below. Also, they have yet to release the widgets to the market, so for now, you just get to play with apps and lassos and cards. The previous preview video they released is below. I’ll hopefully have some time today to get you guys another video of it running on my Nexus.

    17$?!
I’ll wait until they have a sale, I’d rather not pay more than 10$, sorry.

    • http://twitter.com/savagejeep SavageJeep

Exactly. Watch, this will be Amazon’s Free App of the Day next week =)

    • Beagleent

Exactly. I emailed TSF and told them that $10 would have been a more fair price. They did work hard, and create a fantastic new interface, but it isn’t a new operating system. OVer priced! I was so looking forward to this, only to be disappointed by the price. Not buying it today!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=705034 Jeff Simpson

THIS WILL GO GREAT WITH MY NEW DOCK

  • Bacon T Rex

At least give a free trial with that price tag.
If it runs as smooth in real life use as it does in that video, I might consider paying $5

  • Skyskioc

Just way too much on this thing ! Who in there right mind can utilize every option in this launcher ? We pick up our phone and touch a short cut and open the program or whatever we are needing to do at that time. We touch the phone icon and make a call etc, etc, What the heck is all this needed for ? Do people really live on there phones 24-7 to use every feature ? Thats crazy. Although it looks cool, Just dont see in my opinion that all this is nesessary. Just saying.

  • zaraza

$17 lol WTF these people want to become billionaires!

    • webby

They won’t sell enough copies @ $17 to get rich.  They would make a lot more money if the charged $5 or less, due to much much greater volume.

  • http://profiles.google.com/pcman1911 melvin young

whats up with the touchwiz squares around the icons

  • JustAnotherGuest

WOW!! I actually sat here and watched the full 8 min. video, and I’m just amazed at the things this launcher can do. I have never seen another phone UI / launcher be able to do most of those things, if not all of them. By the way, what’s up with those icons that were on fire at the end??? All that aside, even though this is something that I think has never been done before and just looks incredible, I don’t think I can justify paying $17 for this…

Are there any other launchers or ROM’s that are a bit similar to this?

  • shdowman

    meh

  • GawkerRedesignSucks

Looks cool and all, but I just can’t do it at that price point.

  • Bionic_Pags

I would give it a shot for $17 if we were back to the old 24hour return policy, but no way am i forking over that cash for 15mins of testing only to learn that it kills my battery and crashes my phone a day later.  Google really needs to revisit this refund time policy, as it hurts developers that create (sometimes) amazing products and charges a high price because people like myself won’t take the risk.

  • Zepplin76

Maybe they mean $1.68 and messed up?

  • http://twitter.com/Mike_Cook7 Mike Cook

Wow I am really looking forward to comments on this.  It looks REdonculous!

  • http://twitter.com/Jubmasterflex Jubby Salhi

Is anyone else intrigued by the actual price point?  I mean why exactly $17?  Why not $10, $15, or $20….

    • http://twitter.com/MrCodyMD Cody

      Yes, but because its 16.80

  • Harryeballs1234

That is the coolest launcher I’ve ever seen!

You think 17 bucks is too high? Cheap bastards!

    • OBVIOUSTROLL

      @Harryeballs1234  OBVIOUS TROLL IS OBVIOUS

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002918282828 Christopher Grame

See this is where that 15 minute return policy gets me…To spend 17 bucks on this thing I would need atleast a day to play around with it to see if I loved it.  If not then just wasted nearly 20 bucks.

  • Skyskioc

Thats more than half the cost of my data plan each month ! At $17.00 I say no way. I’ll wait for it to come out on Amazons free app of the day.

  • http://twitter.com/WesMcLucas Wes McLucas

$17?  Let me preface this with the fact that I spent $35 on pizza for me and the roommates last night.  Money is not the issue.  Value, however, is.  There are a lot of launchers available for free or a lot less.  $5 would be worth trying it based on what I’ve read.  $10 if you really sold me on some functionality I couldn’t live without.  $17?  Meh.

Example, I’d spend $10 on swype if I had to. I use it every day and it works the way I want without competition being close enough in the results I receive.  $17 is a bit much for most apps.

    • Trueblue711

The reason why the value seems high is because a lot of developers have undercut themselves and their worth. What’s wrong with a $17 launcher if you use it for a full year? That’s less than 5 cents a day for something potentially very useful. Use it for the life of your phone and it’s even cheaper.

Why do people pay the Apple tax? Because they say their products are worth it, and people seem to agree. Good for this company for doing the same.

      • Tabe

The difference between this product and Apple’s products is that Apple is a well-known company who sells proven products that people know are worth it. The maker of this app is shooting themselves in the foot by not offering their app for cheaper (or offering a trial) so that people will give it a chance to prove its worth.

        • AlexKCMO

On top of that, what guarantee do we have of updates and bug fixes from a generally unknown company.

      • http://twitter.com/WesMcLucas Wes McLucas

Not only is it unproven but there are options available for less.  If it is reviewed as the hands-down best launcher ever known to man and there is a guarantee for updates and bug-fixes, then maybe it would be worth it.  There is also no trial or free version to check it out.  I also own an iphone and ipad for work.  I have yet to buy an app over $11.  $17 is only worth it if there is a need and a value.

  • http://twitter.com/MrBouche MrBouche

If I were to use an alternate launcher, I would use Go Launcher. It’s consistent, simple, and stable. Just seems silly to spend so much when you want to do is access your apps. Who cares how pretty it is. Nevertheless, good luck.  I hope it’s a success.

  • EvanTheGamer

$17? Only if hell froze over, then we’ll talk.

  • Lenny

Ahh haha for $17 I can feed the whole family for a week in some countries.

  • http://twitter.com/rschleg rschleg

Something ugly that complicates my phone unnecessarily for $17. Ill pass.

  • Aardvark99

After reading this thread, I think we need to redo that “how much would you pay” survey…

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002918282828 Christopher Grame

      Just thinking that!!

    • JDHokie

That thread had me thinking back to the 10 cent app sale around Christmas.  Every day people were B&Ming … “Why don’t they have (insert $10-$15 premium app here)?”

    • kixofmyg0t

      Agreed.

The most I ever paid for an app was like $7 or $8 and it was Super Street Fighter 4 or Infinity Blade 2, dont remember which one was more expensive.

  • Daniel Archibald33

what is your opinion on this Kellex?

  • Aardvark99

I’m not so sure I need such a wiz-bang UI around customizing/rearranging my home screen and accessing applications! I think this company has lots of great touch user experience ideas and wanted a platform to demonstrate them. They did a great job showing off tons concepts, but not a great job making a more useful launcher – unless you need to completely re-layout your homescreens in 5 seconds.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Timothy-Kimball/1738130239 Timothy Kimball

This is like the TAT Home Screens they were talking about a year ago.  But not sure if $17 is worth it and I’ve been waiting a while to get my hands on this.

  • Beagleent

Dang, $17! I will wait to see what those that pay for it think before I buy, but it looks awesome!

  • Nexussss

    It compatible with Verizon GNex

    • Darthseph23

It’s also incompatible with my now ICS flashed Razr.  Go figure…

      • http://twitter.com/MrCodyMD Cody

Just to ask, are the people that have incompatibility issues running a lower screen density?

        • http://twitter.com/savagejeep SavageJeep

I had incompatible on the web version on the market. Purchased on the device market with no problems…

    • droidman

Yep, when I go to the Market it shows as compatible with my Nexus. I just don’t have the full belief in the product to dump 17.00 on it….yet.

    • http://twitter.com/savagejeep SavageJeep

      Stock Nexus? Just asking?

  • cancerous_it

This is why we can’t have nice things.  $17 may be a lot but like MIUI, it’s significantly different and innovative enough to reward the developer for the creativity.  Who am i kidding…$17??????  If it were $5, I would buy to show support.  $17, you ask too much.

    • Pooch Nuts

I agree with cancerous_it.  I will pay for apps, but the $17 pricetag is a little steep, considering the market place.  I believe that the developer’s pricing will hinder the success.  Maybe a $10 price tag would prove more appropriate, as seeing that solid launcher apps that are already out on the market are free.  TSF might be pricing themselves beyond the marketplace.

They definitely need to make money for the time and resources that they put in.  There is no  doubt about that.  I just wonder if the $17 will hurt them, as opposed to making it $10 and getting more sales.

      • Bob Martin

u must own one of those cheap $5 prepaid phone’s that u get from 7-11. i know u can’t possibly own a $300 phone or any phone over $30 if u complain that $17 is too much. i already bought spb shell for $15 and still willing to buy this for $17.

        • ericl5112

I bought a (then) top of the line phone, and am very willing to pay for apps that measure up to their value.  I would happily buy a $17 app if it had $17 of value for me, but this doesn’t appear to.  Just because is does to you, doesn’t mean everyone else is so incredibly cheap that they can’t possibly be as cool as you…

  • http://twitter.com/metalhead520 Nick

I made the mistake of getting SPB Shell for $15….not gonna be dooped into getting this even though the videos make it look freakin awesome. Well, I may get it, if it goes on the Amazon app store of the day for free or they have a huge sale on the Android Market and chop it by a few bucks or even half off. Plus if you wait longer that will force them to do so hahahaha

  • http://twitter.com/marsgrafx MARS GRAF-X

yeah if it was 2 – 5$ then every one would buy it just to try it out.. that is just bad marketing.. apple and android markets have proven this… if angry birds was 10 bucks no one would have tried.. but because it was only as $1 every one .. even people that dont play games downloaded it, just to see what it was all about..

  • Lololololol

look, its the windows 7 beta desktop background!

  • http://twitter.com/BucUte Neil Rasmuson

    $17? No thanks.

  • humungus

Man, that looks (like an) awesome (battery drain).

  • http://twitter.com/JDMaker1 JDMaker

It looks like a bad copy of an iPhone homescreen with widgets.  No thanks.

  • digitalicecream

$17 for something you can use across all of your devices, and any device that you use your account on? I will pitch in $17 in hopes that the devs have enough seed money to work on other projects at a price that is more agreeable to everyone. $17 is lunch money, let the Devs eat lunch already.

    • Tabe

$17 lunch?! Man, you go hard! Really though.. Maybe if there were a trial version for people to check out some would end up really liking it and dropping the $17. But that’s a lot of money for a new home screen replacement that people aren’t even sure they’ll like. That’s great that you consider $17 nothing and have the ability to just throw it around as dev seed money, but not everybody is in your boat.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000106808261 Keith Sumner

17 dollars for lunch? To feed an elephant maybe!

Lunch for me cost 4-7 dollars.

        • Curren$y

          Stop eating fast food

          • Tabe

You can get non-fast food lunch for around that price. You can also buy stuff at the store and make your own lunch for that. You shouldn’t assume…

          • http://twitter.com/savagejeep SavageJeep

            I six pack alone is $5.00+ LOL…j/k

      • digitalicecream

I guess I didn’t consider taking into account that some of us still use lunch tickets? About $20 Is what you pay when it’s your turn to buy when someone else flies. Sorry if I offended anyone still in K-12.

        • ericl5112

So what you’re saying is, $17 is lunch for 2 people.  Very different than what you actually said before.  Guess you need a little more of that k-12 math ;)

          17/2 != 17.

Really, you didn’t offend people in K-12, just people who can do math.

          • digitalicecream

I didn’t think I had to spell out that I usually eat lunch with my team mates. You math heads are certainly lonely.

          • ericl5112

I eat with my friends 6/7 days a week for lunch. We just happen to be responsible adults who pay for our own meal. Besides, if you’re only dividing the meal two ways, I’d consider a meal for 2 pretty lonely if it was just a friend…

Besides, when did knowing how to divide by two make you a “math head”? You have got to be one of the worst trolls of all time. I believe I learned that one in 3rd Grade? If you haven’t gotten there yet, I believe you are one of those K-12 that you seem to think everyone else is.

          • digitalicecream

You’re still here? I’ll tell you what, since you’re so attached to this conversation I’ll let you get in the last word.

          • trollhunter1123

God digitalicecream, you are such an obvious desperate troll, baiting ericl5112 to respond, so you think you win.  Your 12 year old games were painful to read.  Sorry ericl5112, you tried.  There are just some people who are too stupid for their own good.

        • Tabe

What in the world is a lunch ticket??

  • http://www.facebook.com/sholada Sam Holada

    17 dollars = a joke.

  • nwd1911

For $5, I would give it a try..for $10 I would pass.  For $7.50, I would have to drunk download and be happy in the morning when the return window has closed.

  • Teng247

$17????  Damn thats alot but judging from look, it does make your phone unique

  • Tabe

Definitely does some really cool stuff. The animations and such are pretty awesome. BUT I don’t like the look. Looks way too busy and the background behind the icons makes them look like crap. Also, $17?? C’mon… They should at least start with a lower price in order to get people on-board! With the super short Market refund timeframe, I don’t see too many people giving this a chance.

  • James_C_L

    17$…lolz

  • MikeMike

For $17 I expect something ground breaking. This is meh

  • http://twitter.com/Sefirosu0522 Dan Lopez

    No launcher is worth $17!

  • Lansdownunder

Did I read that right???? $17???? Who are they kidding?

I was really looking forward to this one. Oh well. Back to ADW

  • Dshudson

I hate launches and will never use one.

    • http://quiklives.tumblr.com quiklives

You use one every time you turn your phone on.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000106808261 Keith Sumner

        lol!

      • http://twitter.com/savagejeep SavageJeep

He bricked his phone and it no longer works thus NO launcher :)

  • Tommy Thompson

Looks neat, but looks too busy for me.

  • Kyle

Sorry – way too much money to even give it a shot.  Maybe $5, but not $17.  I’ll stick with Nova Launcher for now.  Would love to try this out – hopefully they’ll drop the price at some point or offer a version with fewer features for less $$$.  Not trying to be a cheapskate, but that’s expensive.

    • cns2007

Ditto. I had the free version of Nova and bought the $4 Pro version as soon as it hit the market. $17 is a bit much.

      • Greyhame

How are you liking the pro version?  What are those two finger gestures they mention?  Pinch to zoom out at your screens?  Or more than that?  Thanks.

        • ericl5112

It includes two finger swipes in the same vein as the one finger swipes.  For example, I have swipe down with one finger as open notification tray, and two finger swipe down launches Vlingo InCar.  That kind of thing.  Between useful features like that, and supporting the developer, it was worth it.  At least they gave a (generously featured) free version to try out.

  • http://twitter.com/WaltPartlo Walter Partlo

Only $17?  What a bargain considering almost every other launcher has a free version.

  • Nexussss

This app is compatible with your Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

    • Alex9483

How are you so sure? Do you have it installed on your GN?

      • Nexussss

Whats what is showing in my market. I’m not gonna buy it but worth noting

  • Football4lifeson

Who do they think they are?!?!?! A GPS app on *OS?!?!?!?!?!

  • FortitudineVincimus

    $17.. F you

    • vitriolix

How dare that developer charge what he thinks it is worth!

      • Tabe

If they think its really worth that then they should put out a trial version so users can decide if they agree or not.

        • vitriolix

           That would be smart

        • justincase_2008

Shut up with your logic tabe.

          • Tabe

            Oh, hai!

          • justincase_2008

            sup buddies

      • FortitudineVincimus

well the public will decide.. sales will tell the story

But as part of the public, it is a ludicrous price. Even more so when you consider average prices and what other Devs who make full ROMS, kernels and more charge.
