Early Ice Cream Sandwich Build for the HTC Rezound Leaked

What sounds like a very early Ice Cream Sandwich build for the HTC Rezound has been leaked this morning. I say “early” because from the what we have read, the build is a mix of HTC Sense 3.5 and some stock ICS icons and images. While we no longer have a Rezound in house to try and flash this, all signs point to it being unusable on a daily basis. This isn’t all that surprising though, since we weren’t actually expecting a release of this to the phone so soon, but at least we can see HTC is puttin’ in work on it. Flash at your own risk, folks.

And is it just me, or is the Rezound becoming more and more attractive by the day? A new $199 price, unlockable bootloader, one of the most beautiful screens we have ever seen on a mobile device, and the best camera of any Verizon phone, are making this phone worth another look.

The Rezound has great specs, but I was totally unimpressed when I tried it out at the store.  Sense makes the phone choppy and not smooth.  Its a shame.  It honestly didnt feel any smoother or snappier than my old thunderbolt.

I love android users. We argue with iphone and WP7 users that android is all about choice, then we bash fellow android users for not getting the “right” Android smartphone. People are funny.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=30814337 Brian Rokosz

i got nothin against either of those two devices…as long as people are smart enough to know that they aren’t as good…my opinion is iPhone is the new blackberry…ya need music and email and a couple free games and that’s all you care about, get one of those…or for the same price, get a ton more…..the Windows Phone is actually kind of cool, especially with the CES app that lets you use android apps on it…

However…give me China’s Razr Maxx HD and that kick ass Sony Xperia S and I’ll be satisfied….I really don;t get why we bash other people who have Droids either, at least they aren’t dumb enough to buy iPhones…I like the Rezound a lot, I just have an Incredible and this is pretty much an Incredible HD with Beats Audio…I want something totally different than what I’ve had for 2 years…But if it was like $79.99 (how much my Incredible was)…of course I’d get that…$300 for a smartphone is insane…especially with that Asus 7″ tablet with quad core and 1200×800 resolution and ICS for $249…there’s NO reason phones should cost more

      • The Round Mound Of Rezound!

It’s $200 now, which is what I paid for my Inc, so I’m good with it…Also, 4G flat out FLIES…even if it does suck juice like mad. I have no regrets upgrading from the Inc because the Inc was always just a little too small in my hand…The Rezound fits perfectly…but I do agree costs are out of this world…

Very well put.  The whole point is there’s no single phone for everyone.

I was torn between this device and the GNex. I ended up getting the gnex and im glad i did however the rezound is an awesome phone my choice was more difficult as i had to pay full retail.

  • Anonymous

seriously considered this phone, but went with the Razr instead then the Gnex..which is now the wife’s phone. I actually liked the Rezound, but with all the TB issues it just made me to nervous to pull the trigger. ICS is kewl, but in no way a selling point to me. Gingerbread is perfectly fine and the reason I ended up giving the Gnex to my wife..it was the only thing about that phone I liked…no trolling please…if you like your Gnex, great enjoy it. I’m happy to here the Rezound isn’t have any of the issues the TB experienced. I think it may have gotten over looked at first, but is certainly a top device worthy of more coverage.

  • Bogy25

My wife just picked up the Rezound.  My contract is up next week and I have the TBolt.  I have to say, with the exception of the power button, which is a pain to push, this Rezound is one of the best phones I have ever used.  The 1.5Ghz processor screams, the camera is amazing, the screen at 344ppi is just gorgeous, and the 2MP front facing camera is breathtaking.  The overall size and feel in the hand is perfect, solid and comfortable.  You know, this sucks because I am overhear debating on the Razr and GNex and now I have the Rezound in my face!  If the Rezound gets ICS it WILL be the perfect phone with an unlocked bootloader.  PERIOD

    • Anonymous

Lemme say this, I had a launch day Rezound. Returned it for the Nexus then somehow I coerced them into gettingmy Rezound back! The second one had a much easier power button to work with. The only issues I’ve had are the line level noise from the headphone jack and the occasional bootloop issue. No biggie! I use Bose MIE2s because of the fit and you really don’t notice the noise. The loop issue has an easy fix! Get it man! Haha!

I have to completely discount your opinion when you describe a front facing camera as “breathtaking.”

THIS IS AWESOME: I hope the developer community can reap from the leak!  I’ve only ever had HTC phones and Samsung.  Every time I get a Samsung I just end up being disappointed and saying WTF to myself.  I never had any problems and enjoyed HTC phones, being as they are customizable more than most.

  • Anonymous

HTC is ridiculously stupid for soiling Ice with their sense UI crap that looks like it was visually designed in the 90′s. I honestly dont know how you people use those phones. After my father threw his incredible 2 againstthe wall I told him that I’d teach him how to use it. After I picked it up and tried to use it for a few minutes, I completely understood why it went airborne. He ended up getting an iPhone…. I might ha e as well if sense was my first android experience. Two of my friends have gotten iPhones after owning evo 4g’s.

    • Anonymous

The only thing I understood is that your father is stupid?

    • Bogy25

First, your comment makes no sense and is very hard to translate.  Second, you do realize you downgraded when you went to the iphone – here is why:
you went from a 4.3″ screen to a 3.5″ screen
you wen’t from a dual core 1.5 Ghz processor to a dual core 1Ghz processor
you went from an HD 344ppi resolution screen to a SD 289ppi
you went from a phone with an SD card and removable battery to (?) none removable battery
you went from a 2.0MP front facing camera to a VGA front facing camera (LOL)
you went form a fully customizable OS to a limited locked down OS
OK, I’ll stop but one more thing…..

You went from today’s latest technology to last years technology and are locked in for two years which puts you 3 years behind now – LMAO!!!!!!!!!!  HEY, have fun with your iphone!

      • ddevito

to each his own I guess.

BTW – the ppi on the iPhone is actually higher, but whatever, he’ll get your point.

      • Anonymous

I did none of this.  My father went from an incredible 2 to an iPhone because the Inc2 was a constant source of infuration to him.

That point non-withstanding, the fact that you’re hung up on specs speaks to the horrible dilemma that Android manufacturers have. Specs mean nothing if you don’t have a user experience to make the whole thing work fluidly.  Sense is a horrible step in the wrong direction.

Personally I’m a happy as punch with My Galaxy Nexus.  My father is pleased with his iPhone. Both my mother and my sisters are on DX2′s and love them.  The only Android to fail in my family has been an HTC.  I wonder why. (Because they’re cheap crap – thats why)
My 2 friends that had EVO’s and now iPhones rub it in my face of how crappy android is.  Thats the legacy of android I have to live with.  Mind you one of them couldn’t figure out how to use the Android market and didn’t know he could download apps.  I showed him how but he never learned how to do it for himself.  Funny, he figured out the app store on his iphone pretty quick.

        • Rsa329

You have to be fricking retartded to think an iCrap is better than an Incredible 2. I have had both sad to say…I would never own an iCrap again, I still own and love my rooted Incred 2 though!

        • Anonymous

Hung up on specs?  Yeah whatever, every time an iphone gets released what is its selling points?  WHAT IT CAN DO.  So yes, specs are everything when it comes to a device!
Oh and one more thing…..enjoy that super slow 3G connection because you went from a 4G LTE kicks ass super fast connection to a 3G connection.  There’s a spec for you.

          • Abgar Musayelyan

no 4g on inc 2.. just sayin..

Got to play around with the Xoom ICS & really like it. Can’t wait to see it in action on my Rezound, but I’ll wait for the official release. Oh and as far as skin/no-skin wars go. I had an OG Droid and I while I used LauncherPro to keep my Rezound looking stock, I did try using the Sense launcher for 2 weeks now & it’s not to bad. There are some things I miss (customizeable dock & scrolling wallpaper), but I’ll see how ICS & Sense work together.

The screen on this device is nothing to be impressed about, I don’t understand why this site raves about it. I’ve seen this device in person and I was not impressed, it is noticeably pixelated, unlike Super Amoled. but it seems like all HTC devices have pixelated looking displays because my old Incredible was the same.

    • Anonymous

Totally untrue – you don’t see any pixels and this is the highest ppi screen out today.  Accept it

      • Tony Allen

Yup, but it doesn’t have NFC & after it finally gets an official build of ICS *Could be a long ways off* I wonder how much it’ll get updated after that, because by that time, Google will likely have introduced new features into ICS and Rezound owners will have to wait even longer, if they ever get them. It’ll be clearing about the time it’s replacement will be coming in at that point in time. The Nexus will be moving onward and upward.

    • Tony Allen

The original Incredibles had AMOLED ;)

    • Rsa329

They have these Doctors called Optometrists…probably should go see one soon.

I’m happy with my Rezound! By the way, if you purchased your Rezound within 30 days (holiday extension – 14 days otherwise)  and paid $299, you can call in and if you’re really nice, you may be able to get them to credit you $100 on your bill to price match down to the new price of $199.99. Good luck!

    • Anonymous

Tony you are correct, we paid $249 and asked as we had not yet even received the phone yet. Verizon very promptly adjusted a $50 credit to our bill.  The customer service was incredible!

  • Alex

I have been pulling breakneck speeds on the 4g Network in the Twin Cities area. I pulled a 50mb download speed 3 times in a row today. Its unreal how fast this network really is

    • Alex

      On the Rezound

  • tiptoptommy

Theres always vonna be someone complaining about one thing or another. All the manufacturer put out what they are guessing us as consumsrs want. We keep want the next best thing. Im glad to hear moto is gonna slow down with their cookie cutter phones that are all essentially the same. Im sure everyone has a great phone. I just upgraded myself and im sure ill be happy with what i got. I know you all like bashing eachother with what you know / think you know. Ok we get it can we slow it down a bit and stay with a relevant topic. Thank you for listening. Im done with my rant . Yay

  • Anonymous

I absolutely LOVE my Rezound and have only one minor gripe. There are some sound issues when using an AUX cord into my car stereo, but I’m sure there will be a software update for that soon. Otherwise, I am stoked with it. I went to the Verizon store today to get the car dock, and put it side-by-side with the RAZR and Nexus again, and still think the screen is BY FAR the best of the bunch. I’m just not liking AMOLED screens I guess, they just look to soft and over-saturated to me. My only knock on Sense is that I’m not in love with the dialer, but it’s not bad. Everything else is rock solid. Stable, nearly bug-free, smokin’ fast, phenomenal camera, and the Beat’s earbuds aren’t too shabby at all. I’ll probably break down and unlock/root it in a few months, but happy with stock for now. If you are on the fence about which phone to get, you won’t be disappointed with the Rezound.

    • Anonymous

Agreed, trying to figure out how to fix the recessed power button issue.  Can’t seem to come up with a solution…..outside of that the Rezound is GOD when it comes to specs and functionality.

  • Anonymous

    It’s a great phone, I love it. I’m glad I didn’t get the Nexus!

  • Anonymous

My only question about the Rezound would be, What is screen visibility like outdoors? My TBolt was HORRID, you pretty much had to guess what you were taking a picture of because you couldn’t see anything out in the sunlight.

  • Anonymous

I always wondered why the rezound wasn’t more popular.  I would have definitely picked it over the Bionic.  The screen alone puts it to shame plus it can actually take pictures in a reasonable amount of time.

    • Anonymous

Yes and the Rezound has 5 picture burst and panoramic – they both function as they should – amazing!

      • Anonymous

Absolutely and the most intuitive camera app of ‘em all!!

      • TC Infantino

Wow, I didn’t know about the 5 picture burst feature, knew about the panoramic.  Very cool, and thanks for the info, I need to go play more with the camera app on this baby.  Oh and if you like taking pics and adding interesting effects, Paper Camera is a very fun app.  I have been playing around with it for a while and people really like the things I can do to their pics.

      • Abgar Musayelyan

bionic has a similar feature. with 6 picture burst and pano.

    • Tony Allen

Since the last big update to the Bionic, the camera is considerably more snappy. The shutter lag is no longer an issue, but thanks for your input.

  • Jslafarr

Fckin google it. jesus 85 to 100% of all the bs posted is obviously not researched. These phones that are out are not the pinnacle in cell phone technology. At all. By far. Ppl have what they want. Of course im going to say my gnex rapes the rezound..if i had a rezound i would say its btter than the gnex. Who.the.fck.cares. what a joke just cause you have a porsche and i have honda..doesnt mean i wont win a race.

    • Anonymous

A 6 cylinder Honda engine will not beat a 6 cylinder Porsche engine.  Period. Bad analogy.  However, a 1.5 Ghz processor beats a 1.2 Ghz.  A much better analogy.

      • Tony Allen

Actually, the Honda NSX did quite a bit better than the standard Porsche 911 non-turbo ;) FAIL

      • ddevito

Stop with the GNex comparisons already.

        The Rezound has a Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz
THe GNex has an OMAP 4460 1.5GHZ downclocked to 1.2GHz

The OMAP 4460 is based on Cortex A9 design where the S3 is Cortex-A8 based. I wouldn’t get excited about the S3 Snapdragon. It’s 2011 design. The S4s will be in the new HTCs in 2012.

  • http://www.facebook.com/matt.putz Matt Putz

Does any one else have audio issues i.e. people can’t seem to hear you??

  • http://twitter.com/yinzers85 Brett

Without ICS the Nexus would just be another cheap Samsung phone. I don’t care about what you say about processors, the Rezound beats out the Nexus, clearly. Also, the Rezound rooted now, all bloat is gone, fast as hell. Oh and ICS just leaked for us, will have that too very soon. So Nexus users, keep your plastic phone, your horrible speaker volume, etc.

Not possible with that laggy sense junk.

      • Anonymous

No lag at all with sense.  Also, if he has it rooted then your comment makes no SENSE.

        • Tony Allen

Rooted doesn’t mean ROM’d, so his comment makes plenty of Sense. It’s a proven fact that moving through updates, phones would stay up to date longer without things like HTC Sense. My Merge is rooted, but still has Sense and is still a pig because of it. Even overclocked to 1.8Ghz.

    • ddevito

To each his own – stop the hating already.
Okay so you don’t like the GNex, we get it – we don’t care – move on with your life.

I’m happy you’re getting ICS – the more people using it the better. Thats the Android way, don’t forget that. It’s all about choices.

No one prompted you to start bashing the GNex.

The rezound is a great device. Blazingly fast data, fantastic screen, great camera, very good battery life, able to hold a signal, acceptable speaker volume.

Oh yea, you can actually makes phone calls on it too. Unlike the plastic pos Nexus, with the crappy -@SS radio that samsung uses.

    • ddevito

My Gex makes crystal clear calls all the time, haven’t dropped a call (phone or skype). Just had a 45 min skype call on 3G and didn’t drop.

I think the GNex bashing is getting a little old now. Some folks had issues, great – return it and get something else. But for those who haven’t had issues the phone is fantastic. SO get off your high horse and stop the hate.

  • boo Jay

The Rezound needs to come to Canada.  After fiddling around with the other flagship phones, Galaxy Nexus included, I can confidently say HTC makes the best phones.  It’s too bad the Rezound isn’t a worldphone otherwise I’d get it.

    • Anonymous

Just so you know, the rezound is a global phone. People are putting sim cards from other countries and voice calls work. Also, tmobile and att sim cards work for voice calls. Google it

      • boo Jay

yes, I’ve been reading up on that.  Thanks for the heads up!

so happy to have this phone from the bionic after complaining twice they just gave it to me no head phones but i purchased some early last year

  • Allen

Upgraded from the Gnex…yes, it was an upgrade.

    • Bewara2012

Upgrades are great! I did that once when I upgraded my Porsche 911 to a Ford Fiesta.

      • Allen

Sorry if my comment hurt you, but after owning the Nexus for a solid three weeks and using it every day, I can most assuredly say that the Rezound is better overall.

        Enjoy that Ford Fiesta chief.

        • Colin Zack

most reviews say otherwise, but I’m sure you’re right

          • Evan Knofsky

So because a reviewer says he likes the Nexus more means Allen can’t like the Rezound more?

          • Tony Allen

Nope, but it doesn’t mean he can lie and say it’s a better phone when the general consensus is otherwise.

          • Allen

Why does the general consensus matter to me? I told you I had the Galaxy Nexus for three weeks. I actually had the phone. I’m not going based off of online reviews or a perceived online “general consensus.”

I’ve physically used both phones for considerable periods of time, coming to the conclusion that the Rezound is indeed better overall.Maybe you can justify your spending of $300 on a piece of cheap, poorly made plastic, but I simply could not. The screen is inferior, the build is inferior, the call quality is inferior, and the ability to hold on to a data signal is inferior to the Rezound’s. This is from my experience. Maybe yours has been different — but when it comes down to it, I don’t really care.

I’m stating my opinion, not lying. Having owned both phones, my opinion has credibility.

          • Colin Zack

what you said is the Rezound is better, not that you like the Rezound better. you didn’t state an opinion, your post came off as fact, not opinion.

          • Colin Zack

except that isn’t what he said. he said the Rezound is better overall, not better TO HIM. that sounds objective, not subjective. try reading next time

        • Bewara2013.14159265

Psssst… comments don’t hurt. I know! Crazy huh? I didn’t know that until I was, like, 5 years old!

  • TC Infantino

I wish I could say that I predicted that the Rezound would be the rockin’est, most screen beautious, build solidest, unlocked booted’est, easily rooted’est phone out of the top three on VZW…but I really just picked it for personal preference.  But I am so glad that I did.  WooHoo can’t wait for a solid ICS ROM.

My son got a Rezound today (chosen over the i*hone) …funny how Verizon is advertising the Bionic at $199 SUCKERS! LOL!

    • Anon

My Bionic works just fine, thanks. I wish you and your smug sense of superiority nothing but the best.

      • Anonymous

So…you’re saying you would buy the Bionic at $199 over the Rezound? I doubt it…

        • Bewara2012

Maybe you have an issue with reading comprehension, because he didn’t say that.

          • Anonymous

Maybe YOU have an issue with reading comprehension…because my comment wasn’t in reference to people who purchased a Bionic BEFORE the Rezound dropped to $199.  Any one who buys a Bionic NOW at $199 IS A SUCKER!

            ok?

          • Bewara2012

Obviously, you don’t understand what “reading comprehension” means. When your mommy gets through making a quick 10 bucks, you might want to ask her what that means.

          • Bewara2012

LOL! Mom jokes went out of style with fat ties. :^D

            I don’t have a Bionic. I have a Nexus and a Rezound.

          • Bewara2009

            Poser! Get a life ..

        • Anon

I’m saying there are reasons to buy either.  I have nothing against the Rezound, I think it’s a decent phone.  But both the Bionic and the Rezound have their trade-offs.

I have no need to be smug about having one phone over another, though.  Gloating is infantile and pointless.  Oddly, you seem to have the need to gloat, and apparently it isn’t even your phone.

Yikes…seems some are just a hair too sensitive and read way too much into a comment.  peace…

  • Davros

I really wanted a Rezound and kept waiting for it to be listed on their unlockable list. Finally gave up and got the GNex, then a week later Rezound makes the list. I think it will pretty much zombie stomp every other phone when it gets ICS. Until then I just couldn’t go back to Gbread.

  • GNEX(MOTOX)

Ill stick with  my nexus though its nice to see htc actually work on it early. Wish rezound users ics by February but i doubt it. But its a start… Im glad i gave stock android a try, now im just getting some ibeats from the rezound for my nexus… :) they are good headphones…

The ONLY thing that I didn’t like about the Rezound is the red buttons. For some reason I just don’t like them at all……

Not at all. I’m on Droid life’s full site on my phone replying to you oh my rezound.

  • Ryan D.

Lol I have a perfect condition htc rezound that I got from exchanging my galay nexus.. Biggest regret tho.. Anyone down to trade? :D I have an extended battery and cases I can throw in lol.

    • Anonymous

If you ask around I bet you could find some goof to take you up on that deal.

    • DavidLB

If you are serious, I would be interested. I have a Galaxy Nexus with extended battery that I traded in for the Nexus. I like the Nexus, but the signal strength in my office is abysmal. The signal on the Rezound was great in the same building. If you are serious, let me know.

  • Interstellarmind

it was a total toss up between the rezund and g-nex. in the end, g-nex won (and the photographer in me died).

lovin’ g-nex, though. just wish i could put a rezound camera in there.

  • Bewara2009

This phone is the best on the market right now..Yes including that plastic nexus piece S%^$…

    • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

i wouldn’t say better than the nexus. it is a good phone, but best means different things for different people. I’d much rather have the Nexus than the rezound, and i do, but i do know that the rezound is still a great phone.

    • BillFranks

you bitch at ddevito for saying something about the about the rezound vs the nexus then you show your willingness to hop on the rezounds dick. relax dude. have fun getting jelly bean.

      • Bewara2009

What? I thought he was trolling.on the rezound when he said the browser being choppy. So you need to relax bro and get off Sammy’s dick!

        • Bewara2012

Lol, trollboy. You’re getting all worked up over a fr3@kin’ phone.

Its a great phone, but Im sorry it is not better than the Nexus at least in my opinion. The hardware is really nice and I love the screen, processor, LTE, etc etc etc, but Vanilla Android will always trump Sense (or TouchWiz or Blur) everytime in my book.

    • Billyrouth2000

This phone is not even close to being the best, its slow and lags not to mention its not sense sucks

  • Youllreachus

@Jamesu513 I hated sense on my Rezound too so I put the Senseless Rom on from scottsroms to get rid of it and my zound has been smoother, faster, and has better battery life. I hope at least one good ics build won’t have sense to bog it down.

  • Anonymous

I’m still so torn on this and the GNex.

  • Yoderz

I was going through the bootloader unlock process when I came across this information in the xda-dev forums. I was planning on rooting because I’m tired of waiting for the official ICS release for this phone and want to get rid of some of the bloatware that really holds this phone back. I think I’ll wait a bit and see what happens with this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=503332367 Adam Cox

got the rezound 2 weeks ago, unlocked it, rooted it and on a  ineffiables rom and this phone is the best i’ve had. with ics official or unofficial this phone definetly wont make me regret my upgrade. the screen on it is a work of art and the specs on it will surely be amazing for an aosp ics rom

  • Alex Dominguez

Same here. This phone is amazing.

    • Anonymous

      same here!

Already send my GNex back to get the Rezound.  The Rezound just beats the Gnex’s hardware like a rented mule.  Knowing ICS would come to to the Rezound at some point AND I’ll get $100 back?  No brainer.

    • ddevito

What about the Rezound hardware makes it so great (not trolling asking seriously).

      • Anonymous

Insane screen for one.  It has the highest pixel density, higher than the iPhone 4(s).  Dual-core snapdragon at 1.5GHz, very nice cameras (the FFC quality surprised me coming from a TB), and solid build quality.  The only downside I see to it is Sense but you can hide most of that with widgetlocker and ADW EX.

        • ddevito

Cool – how’s web browsing? I saw a video if it and looked very choppy.

          • Anonymous

Perfect for me.  I haven’t had any problems.

          • Anonymous

I use Dolphin, but always liked HTCs stock browser, found it to be the smoothest of all the OEMs

        • http://www.facebook.com/2cheezy4u Eric Chee

hows the battery life for the rezound?

          • Anonymous

Better than my TB.  Typical Android battery life I’d say.  I get through a long day easily.  When the screen is off it doesn’t seem to drop much at all.  1-2% per hour, if that.

          • iloveyou

Being better than the TB in battery is not hard to do. That thing sucked.

          • Yoderz

IMO, the battery life isn’t very good. I love the phone, but I definitely keep a charger close. Always needs a full charge for me by the end of the day.

          • http://twitter.com/mangopositive Eric Martin

Get the extended battery and the battery life is better than any other.  It makes it thicker, but it also makes it easier to hold and will still fit in your pocket.  All day with heavy use.

          • leetusername

The extended battery on the Rezound is redikalus.  Wobbles when laying on a flat surface, is thick, heavy.  It does make the phone last longer, but it’s not worth it.  I had the rezound and the extended battery.  I took both back for the Nexus.  The nexus lasts me longer too …

        • Anonymous

The Snapdragon they use is an outdated design. 25% slower clock-for-clock than the OMAP4 processors. Slower RAM too.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1385703788 Jeff Fuller

The rezound uses the Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon processor. It’s the same processor that is in the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

          • ddevito

Yes but it’s old design was his point, and he is correct. It’s only ARMv7, which is Cortex A-8.

The GNex uses OMAP 4460, which is the newer Cortex A-9http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)

          • Anonymous

Right. Too bad in real world applications the Rezound just feels much faster. It plays every single one of my 1080p videos without a hitch, whereas for some reason the Gnex could only play about half of them. Gaming is also much more fluid.

Much much better antennas, amazing battery life (24 hours with moderate use), and removable sdcard, and ICS in the future I don’t really see where GNex shines in comparison. You can have your clock cycles I’ll take everything else.

          • http://fujibayashi.jp/ Gasai Yuno

It’s refreshing to see a comment from someone who is not a blind “omgalaxy nexus” fanboy, and not just a simple comment but a weighted and properly reasoned opinion for once on this site.

Oh damn you Disqus, I cannot attach an animated GIF?.. Here it is. http://i.imgur.com/HJhVh.gif

          • Monty Waggoner

I love my Rezound, but 24 hours battery life? No way. Mine couldn’t make it 24 hours if it was off. Moderate usage may get me 10-12 hours before goes into the red, although my perception of moderate may differ from yours.

I’ve have had it go 24 hours when I was sick and didn’t use it all day, but it may as well been off.

I agree otherwise, this phone rocks and I’m even okay with the battery life. I work this phone hard and if she needs a mid-day fill up, that’s just fine with me.

        • angermeans

All of that is really nice and all, but Sense ruins it and always will. Vanilla ICS will always be better than a skinned version of ICS anyday. They are not even the same thing, not even close. The Nexus has everything the Rezound has plus some. Better processor (OMAP has been proven a better all around processor than the Snapdragon), better RAM, pixel density is very close on both phones, but Ill take slightly smaller and a bigger screen as I am sure most will and I am willing to bet most will not even tell the difference as both are the same res plus Super AMOLED looks a little better IMHO, faster updates, and best of all and end of argument is NFC and Google Wallet.

          • 4geez

we’ve never seen a skinned ICS so how can you say its better?

          • tanknspank

We actually have seen skinned ICS from HTC, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson. None of which were very appealing..

          • Tony Allen

They all appear pretty much the same as Gingerbread..

          • https://me.yahoo.com/a/LDBIW9k_npupnEAEfAB.iSlxcjskC6xSbL1rLg--#d3cd0 NotRelevent

It’s better for the simple fact that it isn’t skinned. A skinned ICS will never and can never be better than stock

            ‘Nuff said.

          • Josh Groff

I prefer sense to stock, I don’t mind some of my resources actually being used for cool effects.

          • Anonymous

You haven’t been out of the cave in a while have you? The skinned Ice Cream Sandwich with Sense and TouchWiz have both been leaked and are available for download at XDA.

          • Matt

im sure vanilla ICS will be on the rezound in no time, or at least CM9. I got the rezound, figuring I would upgrade to the G-Nex, but Samsung build quality scared me away.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Kirk/1386021939 James Kirk

it’ll be 4-6 months at least till ics comes to other phones, and motorola is always the first to get updates before others. And companies also screw it up a little to fit on their phones. So if you want closest thing to ICS you’ll prob want a dev version. Yet haven’t heard much from the Dev’s working on HTC versions

          • Josh Groff

            http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14192842&postcount=4

And with that I must also emphasize that it is fairly stable as well. Still needs some work, but have not had a single force close yet.

          • Anonymous

I’ve played with both GNexus and Rezound and I have to say the Rezound screen looks better.  I don’t like the colors on the GNexus.  I was really interested in the Nexus and I didn’t even consider the Rezound.  I went into a Verizon store to play with a Nexus and I wasn’t really impressed.  It’s only strong selling points are ICS and all the updates it’ll get as a Nexus device.

I only got the Rezound because I was having issues with my Thunderbolt and they offered to replace it with a Rezound, Bionic, Charge or Revolution.  I hadn’t even looked at a Rezound before then.  Damn am I glad I did.

          • BionicCommando4231

Did same thing. The hardware is impressive.

          • Anonymous

How did you convince them to replace the thunderbolt with the rezoubd. My thunderbolt has constantly been giving me hell…

          • Anonymous

Wondering how you did this also. I’m on my 3rd Thunderbolt and called in yesterday after reading your post.  CSR said that the Thunderbolt doesn’t have a replacement device listed and I would have to get another Thunderbolt if I was still having issues.  How many did you have to go through before you finally got a different phone?  Or did you just b*tch and complain enough?

        • Anonymous

Try go laucher, its better than ADW EX. I was using ADW and it was lagging at times so I decided to try it since I’ve heard a lot about it and it’s amazing.

          • Anonymous

No thanks.  ADW isn’t the least bit laggy, looks great with the latest update, and I don’t really like GO software.  I used GO SMS for awhile and it was bloated as hell.  I just wanted individual notifications (vibration patterns more specifically).

        • Anonymous

Hiding it isn’t the same as scrapping it totally.

          • Anonymous

I know.  I’m dying for an AOSP ROM.  I’m not going to bother until they achieve s-off.  I don’t like the idea of an unlocked bootloader with s-on.

        • ddevito

Seriously? WTF I asked an honest question. I have nothing against this phone, just wondering. Relax

          • Bewara2009

Okay, just checking here..The web browsing is good, not choppy at all.

          • ddevito

Sweet. Nice to see a 3rd phone get ICS (soon). We need all the best Android devices running it, the more the merrier. It’s the only way an ecosystem’s such as Android can succeed.

Open = more devices, more users, more developers

It always adds to more innovation and better ideas.

          • angermeans

Sense + ICS does not equal real ICS in my opinion.

          • ddevito

To each his own – we all have choices. If custom skins don’t tickle your pickle then you now have a Nexus as an option.

          • TC Infantino

I realize that some seem to hate the idea of Sense on their phone, but coming from the OG Droid to the Rezound I have found that many of the Sense features are very useful and fun.  I like that I can link my contacts through all the different apps (ie. phonebook, facebook, different emails).  I like that is comes with the clock and weather widget on the main homescreen (looks like Fancy Widget), and I like the built in HTC widget library with a large variety of very useful widgets and customizations for my homescreens.  To tell you the truth, when ICS does come to the Rezound, I hope that it will have a good stable version of Sense on it, because there is nothing slow about this phone or it’s processor and I will be ticked if I loose all these features and widgets that I have grown to use all the time and love.  But, that is just me and if you choose to not like Sense, that is perfectly fine as there is the Nexus…oh almost forgot…the Rezound can be unlocked and rooted, and a ROM without sense can easily be flashed, so that is an option as well.

          • angermeans

This past two years since joining the Android world with the Nexus One I have jumped back and forth with different phones before coming to the resolution that HTC was the phones I preferred (still do when it comes to build quality). While owning the N1 I then purchased the Captivate, then moved to Verizon where I got the Droid Incredible (AMOLED), Droid2, DroidX, then back to the Droid Incredible (I hated the Motorola X and 2 they were horrible phones, not the build, but the software and bugs). This caused me to lose faith in Motorola and Samsung as their skins were just too much for me and very buggy so I decided upon only HTC. The last phone I owned before picking up the Galaxy Nexus was the HTC Thunderbolt. I have always been a fan of Sense and felt it is the only skin out there that I can tolerate. You are right the widgets are nice, it runs very smooth, and adds a lot to the experience, but the Tbolt drove me insane and this year HTC just doesnt get it. I just cant deal with skins anymore. I really wanted to love the Rezound as it is a very nice phone and I absolutely love the screen, and cant stand the build quality of Samsung products. Im very happy I didnt but I still think the Rezound is the second best device on the market only behind the Google Exp Device in the Galaxy Nexus. I just cant trust HTC (or Samsung or Motorola for a matter of fact) as with the Tbolt (and others) they show no concern in fixing the problems that plagued the device. They had moved on to the others and left most of their fans behind. I wont do it again, but I hope you the best with the Rezound. I hope they have learned their lesson and will keep updates (ICS for sure) in good time and bugs to a minimum. As for me I will only buy Google Exp Devices from here on out. The Tbolt, DroidX, Droid2, Captivate, etc have left me frusterated with OEMs and their skins. While awaiting the Galaxy Nexus I purchased the HTC Trophy and love it and carry it side by side with the Nexus and if Verizon decides to not bring anymore Google Nexus devices then I will jump on WP7.

      • Anonymous

My wife had gotten a Rezound while I had the Gnex.  So I would hold the two next to each other to compare.  Rezound just did everything faster.  Scrolling, apps, camera (well faster to take a good pic), etc.
Also Google did some small dumb things.  Like no timer in ICS.  They act like you can sync your facebook contacts, but you can’t (to be fixed in 4.0.3 I believe). Whether you like that or not, the fact it acts like an option is annoying.
Google needs to buy the people widget from HTC.

        • Anonymous

How about no smart dialing or text reflow in the browser?? A few of the many reasons I came back to the Rezound from the Nexus…

          • Anonymous

That’s a Sense feature, not an Android feature. One of the many reasons Android gets that fragmented tag..

          • Anonymous

Are you a master of the obvious?? It’s also on Wiz and Blur. It’s all under the Android guise my friend…

          • Anonymous

We’re not talking about TouchWiz and MotoBlur, we’re talking about HTC Sense and Holo. Text reflow is a feature available in the Sense framework and webkit, not vanilla Android. CM has it but that’s a part of Android that’s stock on steroids, Android compiled from Google’s repo will not have this feature. That’s all…

          • Anonymous

This all I’m well aware of sir. If you’d read my original reply you would see I had the Nexus. One thing, I ran CM7 on my evo and don’t recall it having text reflow or smart dialing. When did it get those features?

          • Anonymous

Text ref low in buried deep into the CM Settings, at this moment it might have moved because it was hard as hell as hell to find, but its somewhere in Cyanogenmod Settings.

        • ddevito

Have you tried playing with the Developer Options menu? I’ve noticed turning diwn the animations to .5x seems speed things up – particularly opening apps.

          • Anonymous

I took your advice and did so, but what exactly am I doing here?

          • ddevito

I’ve noticed apps open a bit faster and transitioning from the app drawer to the home screen (and vice versa) is a bit faster also.

          • Anonymous

            But what’s changing? What’s the X?

          • ddevito

“Times” – it’s the rate at which the animations are clocked.

            1x – 1 times the normal speed
2x = 2 times (slower) the normal speed, etc
            .5x = half the normal speed (faster)…

          • Anonymous

Admittedly I did not.  I could have lived with slower scrolling and what not.  The camera killed it for me.  it supposedly (Gnex) is supposed to work well in low light, yet locked on maybe 25% of the time in low light/dark conditions.  Rezound was better.

          • Anonymous

The 4.0.3 update is supposed to have a noticeable improvement on performance.

        • https://me.yahoo.com/a/LDBIW9k_npupnEAEfAB.iSlxcjskC6xSbL1rLg--#d3cd0 NotRelevent

What do you mean by “no timer”?

          • Anonymous

He probably means zero shutter lag, which is not a software feature on ICS, its a hardware feature that only the Galaxy Nexus has.

          • Anonymous

No.  I meant in the clock there is no timer or stopwatch.  Not trying to say its a huge deal, but was it really hard for Google to program that in?
The zero shutter lag is more of a gimmick in my opinion. Since its all about time to take the pic, so you just press the shutter button, but the auto focus’s problems with locking defeats the idea of zero shutter lag.  If you hold the shutter button and let it focus, nice pic.  But defeats the purpose of having zero shutter lag.

          • Anonymous

So is that why the Xoom has it now?

            Get real dude.

          • Anonymous

No. Because the Xoom doesn’t have “zero shutter lag”. Ha far from it.

      • Anonymous

The screen is noticeably sharper, but not a huge difference. For example, the text when zoomed all the way out on the CNN website is readable while on the Galaxy Nexus it’s readable, but difficult to read. The Rezound’s screen is slightly glossier though which may be annoying to some.

        • Anonymous

The screen on the rezound is pixelated looking like all other HTC phones, Super Amoled is definitely better looking, and it is probably better on battery life too, which happens to be one of the departments that HTC is failing in miserably.

          • Anonymous

Wrong and wrong. Pixelation is a defining feature of pentile screens. Battery life on rezound is also amazing.

          • TC Infantino

I believe you must have the wrong information about the screen.  Of the three top tier VZW phones currently (Razr, Rezound, Nexus) you can see in the macro shots that the Rezound has the crispest cleanest screen of all three.  Check here if you don’t believe me.
            http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/29/screen-comparison-galaxy-nexus-vs-droid-razr-vs-htc-rezound/

          • Anonymous

You can’t judge the quality of a display by a picture of it, you need to see the phone in person. It doesn’t matter how crisp it looks in a picture of it. if I can see the individual pixels on the display that is a problem.

    • Billyrouth2000

When it gets ics u wont even notice bc it still will have that laggy sense ui.

      • Anonymous

Only if they go with the laggy stock UI in ICS.  If Sense is so laggy why does the Rezound run faster than the Gnex?  There is no excuse for it, yet there it is.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001805990120 Mike Røuche

in what planet did this occurence happen? my brother has a rezound and i have a nexus, both are good phones but his lags when running alot of tasks/heavy applications , mine does not. get off your high horse , sense is a memory hog, that alone means it can not run faster or more efficiently.

          • Ken

You’re full of crap.  I had the Nexus for a week and was NOT impressed.  I compared the Rezound in-store and was so surprised by how well it performed (even with sense) that I decided to return the Nexus on the spot.  I don’t regret it for a second.  The rezound, IMHO is a better phone.

The BS about the sense UI is a bunch of purist non-sense.  My phone doesn’t slow down or lag even a little and I’ve got the thing loaded with apps!

Perhaps you don’t like the sense UI but don’t let that fool you regarding the hardware.  Once the Rezound gets ICS the Nexus will just be another phone.

          • Yesak_adutal

Dude by the time the Rez gets ICS, the GNex will be “just” another phone with the latest software that gets updated first and consistently. I love me some ICS, but by the time its out for other phones, I will probably be tired of it and hungry for jellybean.

          • Anonymous

The planet known as reality.  But let me ask you this.  If Sense is SUCH a memory hog, why does the Rezound thump the Gnex in Quadrant score?  if Sense is such a memory hog we should see the exact opposite result.

Bu but but the Rezound is Cortex A8! Errrr it has slower RAM! Uhhhmmm it doesnt have zero lag shutter!

            lol

          No reason to lie.

No lie.  Had the two phones right next to each, one in each hand, Rezound was noticeably faster.  No ptimizing, no special launchers/roms installed, Gnex was just slower.

Same, though I didn’t have both phones at the same time. Went from a fascinate to gnex, aside from ICS I wasn’t really wowed. Camera quality felt the same, games ran a little faster which was very disappointing. 720p videos played much smoother, but 1080p ran ok, at least the ones that could run.

my friend seems to think that my bionic is faster than his galaxy nexus. regardless how many times i explain to him that its only because my animations are faster.

Sense 3.5 is not laggy at all. Maybe you need to try it before you put it down. All around, IMHO, the Rezound is a better phone than the GN. The camera alone is so much better that it seals the deal.

This phone + 2nd batter and ICS is too beast.  I think I’m 100% now for my last NE2 for 170 bucks really can’t go wrong.

Glad I got this phone. Verizon gave it to me as a replacement for the data dropping on my Bionic. This phone is BEAST!

Got this phone for my girlfriend and the only thing she likes about it is the beats, google’s core apps are all f’d up…sense is HORRIBLE… I hope when ice cream sandwich finally rolls around 4 stock she will be able to have the same gmail, calendar, messaging, keyboard, voice recognition and a lot more that I have … Not gonna hold my breath though

How are the gapps messed up? I haven’t noticed a single problem with mine… And as far as sense goes, just use a different launcher. There are TONS to choose from. Honestly, I don’t get why people whine about sense so much.

one example – the calendar app won’t let you invite people, see whos invited, color code your calendars, etc.   some of the basic functionality of the apps are missing.  the google versions are far superior

If I could upgrade now, this would be the phone to get. That price point is so on target, and that camera and dual core will be even sweeter with ICS!

Can someone who flashed this take some pictures?
