Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Nexus Press Shot Discovered

verizon galaxy nexus

So it looks almost identical to the high gloss press images we saw when the Galaxy Nexus was announced at the Samsung/Google event, but when one of our readers pointed out that it was labeled “Verizon_SCH-i515″, we just had to share. As you can see, no Verizon logo anywhere near the front of this bad boy. And if the images we have seen of the back side of this device hold up, it won’t say anything but “Google” and “4G LTE” on the back either. Not surprising though – the Nexus S and Nexus One lacked all carrier branding as well. Such a pretty device, isn’t it?

Cheers Mannysaurus!

It’s not surprising because it’s a nexus device… its surprising because it’s a Verizon nexus device.

it’s made by samsung, not HTC

  • Waiting

Can’t wait till they give us a release date…sometime in the year 2019. But hey, at least we know the European release dates. That’s a huge relief!!! I know everyone probably feels better because of that.

    Hello beautiful!!

Once again, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

  • hatethanet

No excessive branding. No Joe Jonas nonsense. That’s how you advertise a flagship smartphone.

    • Anonymous

      Who is Joe Jonas?

      • joejoe509

        I don’t know… I think he’s some sort of chick. lol

  • Anonymous

No Samsung or Verizon branding… interesting. That must be a first for Verizon. I actually wouldn’t mind a Samsung logo on the front to fill the space above the screen. People might think I have a cheap no-name phone without the logo. LOL

    • Anonymous

wow, perhaps you should just get an iPhone then, if you’re so worried about people seeing the logo?

      • Anonymous

Except I like Samsung and Android more than Apple and iOS…

        • Anonymous

And apple doesnt have a logo on the front either heh.

But yeah, I’m glad they kept the front super clean, it’s too sexy to mess up with logos.

    • Calvin

My only problem with this phone is that it seems to have a lot of wasted space.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, like the area below the screen has a hidden LED in the center but it’s like, why not put that to the left of the speaker on top where nothing sits? I mean, I guess they need that space for internal components but still, the height does look a bit excessive. Oh well… I guess there is no perfect phone design (although I like the GSII the most).

        • joejoe509

It’s almost the exact same size as the GSII.

      • Anonymous

No,the only problem with this phone is that the fricking thing isn’t OUT yet! Now it’s November 17th?!? Keep pushing it back and I’m buying the d@mned Rezound….tired of waiting so long for a new fricking phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • John

Have sold my dx today. Using an og droid(fml)….really need pre order this mofo. Have my cc ready!!!

  • David Hayden

I’ve already seen the front. I want to see the top/bottom/sides.

    • Ahsan

Have fun with your crappy data speeds. Not to mention, the G.N. will have no “BS bloat or branding.” Have fun with Siri and 3g. We’ll be enjoying ICS and 4g.

Maybe you haven’t read these about the I*hone 4S battery life issues:

          http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-10-28/tech/30331816_1_iphone-apple-engineers-location-services

          http://www.phonedog.com/2011/10/28/apple-investigating-iphone-4s-battery-life-issues

Apple’s engineers have even admitted there is a very legitimate problem and are reaching out to find answers.

          • Anonymous

I have read about them, extensively.  It’s a bug somewhere within iOS 5, the majority seem to report the GPS being constantly on, that is being investigated by Apple, aka actively looking for a fix.  This is software related whereas poor Nexus battery life will be directly related to the battery sucking power of its 4G radio and cannot be fixed by a simple software tweak.

          • Anonymous

GPS on all the time…..are they still collecting your location?

          • Anonymous

But if your iPhone battery runs out can’t you just swap out a charged one? ;-)

    • Anonymous

      Quiet down sheep

    • babadush

I guess you didn’t see the massive bug list ios 5 has over at engadget. Have fun with that

      • Anonymous

And ICS won’t have any bugs?  All OSes have bugs, even Android.  ICS WILL have bugs. Have fun with that.

  • joel rizo

Now this is news, anything to know with any other phone isn’t. Not till this comes out.

EDIT: i am 5’9″ and 140 lbs, feels like a good size

Not to burst your bubble, but we’ve seen this already with an actual device. (several times). I appreciate your efforts nonetheless. :p

Let’s be real, that was precisely to burst your bubble.

      • http://twitter.com/BlackTaxi2d Henry S

for sure, but printing it out for me was pretty cool to get an actual feel of the phone.

your right, but are you sure your dimensions and scale are right? it could be bigger or smaller

I tried doing the same for the ThunderBolt before it was out to get an idea on size compared to my Incredible, i even made up dimensions of all the upcoming Androids for 2011 during CES to get an idea on size of each one.  Then I found a cheapo snap on case and I ended up just buying it, $3 and free shipping, plus that way you can get an idea on thickness and feel from the shape.

btw, there are some cases already available for the SCH-i515 if you wanna dive into that

    • Anonymous

Doesn’t look as big as I thought it would be. Nice job.

    • Anonymous

I think im going to do this and tape it to the front of my OG Droid, then i’ll just cut the screen size for the OG out and voila! I have a po’ mans GNexus!

    • Billy Jenkins

If your Droid Incredible is working fine theres no reason to buy a new phone just because its better. Especially since if you wait a few more months or a year after the Nexus is released a new google phone will be released thats even better then the Nexus. and by then your Incredible might be ready or almost ready to get shut off and upgraded

      • Alexander Garcia

        + googolplex

      • Anonymous

Google releases 1 phone a year so yeah. If the phone you have works fine get a new computer since it seems like your current one is cutting it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/danstheman600 Daniel Sasson

my upgrade is in march tho. I mean i dont think i will be able to wait another 8 months after i have an available upgrade to get a new phone. plus this phone will be the only one with an unlocked bootloader on Verizon.

    • Anonymous

Pretty much depends on which one you use more.  If you’re a college student, your computer is probably more important.  Even though you said don’t, I have to tell you that you’re paying way too much for the mac book pro for what you could get elsewhere with the same specs.

Verizon is the culprit for locked bootloaders, not manufacturers.

        • Anonymous

Then why are all moto bootloaders locked down no matter the carrier? Also Samsung HTC and LG don’t lock down their phones. Nice try though:)

          • Anonymous
          • Anonymous

Are you retarded or just stupid? Moto devices on every carrier in the us are locked down. Like I said it isn’t all Verizon. Once again nice try. Smh

          • Anonymous

Yes, I’m retarded, I show you Motorola telling the world that Verizon asked them to lock the boot loader, but it’s Motorola who’s locking it.  I see logic isn’t included in your reality.

          • Anonymous

They also said sprint made them lock it on the photon but once again Verizon is the only one doing it. According to you anyway. Maybe do a Google search see what all moto phones are locked and how they aren’t all on Verizon. Then come talk to me saying it is just Verizon.

          • Anonymous

You have no proof, you simply say something and expect us to believe it.  I provide proof from the manufacturer itself and you throw it out, you’re the definition of an idiot.

          • Anonymous

            http://phandroid.com/2011/06/10/locked-bootloader-served-up-on-motorola-photon-4g/
Last I checked sprint isn’t verizon. Not to mention the atrix bootloader is locked. You are the idiot you clown. A simple google search would pull up what I posted then again you are to stupid to know how to use one of those. smh

          • Anonymous

Did you even read the article ? “where operator and channel partners will allow it.”  It still states that the wireless providers still has the say whether the device is locked or not.  This is done so that wireless providers can put their bloatware on the devices.  If you knew anything about the reason bootloaders are locked you would know this.  L2READ

          • Anonymous

Your 1st comment said Verizon is the culprit and then I said other manufacturers don’t lock their phones bootloaders. I clearly showed you are wrong. You are a clown. Maybe learn to read your own comments and then you would understand. Because if verizon and sprint and at&t and tmo don’t allow it how is it just verizon? Not to mention the other phones on verizon aren’t locked down just moto phones. But you keep believing it is just verizon.

          • Anonymous

I said Verizon is the culprit for locked boot loaders, proven by the statement FROM MOTOROLA.  I said nothing about Motorola’s devices on other wireless providers.  I swear you’re incapable of reading.

My exact post “Verizon is the culprit for locked bootloaders, not manufacturers.”

          • Anonymous

You argued against it when I said other carriers were locked down to. But whatever “carriers are the culprit not moto”

          • Anonymous

I did not argue against any such thing. Read all of our posts, I said nothing about any other carriers except Verizon.  I said nothing but what Motorola themselves said and what Droid life reported.

Seriously bro?  The Razr or Vigor are No comparison to the G-Nex.

      • Anonymous

razr is good comparison. Both will be good phones and both are marketed towards a different type of consumer.

        • John

razr has some pretty good pros to it, no doubt, but for a power user like me, g.nexus it is :)

why why WHY did i waste my money on that goddamn droid charge. anyone have a solution of how i can get rid of my charge and pick up this adonis?

    • Billy Jenkins

toss it out the car window while driving to the Verizon store to purchase the Nexus. That will solve both problems u r currently having. you will get rid of the droid charge and pick up the Nexus all within a short amount of time.

      • Anonymous

        I lol’d

    • http://twitter.com/Scotty_Braun Scotty Braun

      1. Sell the charge on ebay, and dish the remaining out for full retail. 2. Add a line, an cough up $10 extra a month… 3. or just Beg Verizon for an early upgrade, say that you never imagined the charge would be this bad of a phone, you cant take it anymore. They might give you an upgrade to hold ur sack in a vice for another 2 years!!

Yeah, my power button had given out, and I had simply dropped it too many times. I bought a replacement to get me through these last couple of months. If the SGN was not coming out in the next few weeks, I would probably end up with a Razr.

    • Nobody

Same boat here, just praying my OG stays alive long enough for me to get this bad boy.

      • Earleepa

My OG kicked off a few months ago and rather than use my upgrade for something I didn’t want I went on ebay and bought a galaxy s. Now I think I may have found something worthy of my upgrade.

Sigh, it looks so sexy, but during the UK note they said coming to the UK on the 17th and “Around the globe shorty after.” Hopefully we get it on the 17th as well, because a week later is thanksgiving so we know it won’t be then.

    • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

Please that means absolutely nothing. They don’t control when Verizon releases it therefor that statement is pointless. We all know Verizon will be the first carrier with it in the US, not to mention Panda has been saying the 17th lately AND the MAP pricing also lines up with that since it starts MAP pricing on the 10th (pre order date)

      • Anonymous

Trust me, I hope he’s full of it, but he’s a representative of the product and we haven’t heard a thing from Verizon, so it’s just scary to think about.

        • Anonymous

verizon never really says much about anything. Droid 3 and bionic were both announced a day or two before it was available.

  • Lakerzfan80

Come to daddy…. I just hope Costco carries this bad boy so I can return my bionic and if not I have back up plans already … All I need is a launch date already come on vzw just open ur mouth already

  • BJ P.

can super amoled advanced qHD display on RAZR better than HD super amoled “pentile” display on nexus?

    • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

The Nexus has a FAR SUPERIOR display then that crappy Razr. Sorry but the Razr does not stand a snowballs chance in hell against this device.

You people are thinking negative about pentile just because Motorola made a bad name for it when in fact it’s not bad technology at all. Considering most Super AMOLED screen are pentile. So yeah can we drop that BS please?

      • Anonymous

No SD slot seems like too big an oversight for me.

        • Benjamin Landwehr

Yeah, I really want this phone.. but at the same time the no SD card is scaring the shit outta me.  We always give Apple crap for not having removable memory and having to pay a crap ton extra to get 32gigs or 64gigs versus 16gigs.  And here we are.. likely in the same boat, but yet, no one cares since it’s Android.

This will still likely be my phone though, don’t get me wrong.

          /JustSayin

          • Anonymous

I honestly think you guys are the minority here, a removable SD card is the last thing on my list of “musts” for a device.  32GB is more than enough considering all the access we have to free cloud like data storage.

          • Benjamin Landwehr

Oh I definitely agree.  But still, we’re now in the same boat as Apple in this case when it is something we usually gave them crap about.

          • Anonymous

I see more people ragging on Apple for their non-removable battery, not the SD card.  But maybe I’m just not looking for what people say about the *phone.

          • Benjamin Landwehr

Hm, I’d say both.  But yeah I agree on that too.  And for that.. I can say that on the RAZR posts.

          • Anonymous

Current rumors suggest that Verizon will be getting the 16GB version, not the 32GB.  That really kinda pisses me off.

          • Anonymous

This is one rumor that seems highly unlikely, although Verizon has done some very unintelligent things in the past.  They skipped the SGSII for a reason, they didn’t lose all those possible sales to have a device with very little internal storage.  They’ll sale both, or just the 32GB.  I’m more concerned with the release date.

      • woozzy101

Bluetooth 4.0 vs 3.0 and Gorilla Glass Display vs something “new”.  To say the GN is “FAR SUPERIOR” is ignorance on what both devices will have :D

      • Anonymous

I agree that the Nexus will be superior because of it’s resolution, but I wouldn’t say the screen is far superior than the Razr’s, Moto did use a Super AMOLED + finally on their device.  Don’t get me wrong, I hate the Razr’s look, but at least they finally realized they needed to get with the times and use a nice screen.

They are both pentile and the exact same technology. The two differences are the Droid Razr is 4.3″ @ 960×540 and the Galaxy Nexus is 4.65″ @ 1280×720.

OOOOOHHHHH!!!! I’m so excited!!!! I knew there was going to be something for me this weekend if I kept checking! Thanks Kellex!

  • Samvelavich

every single time i see this device.. i want it more!!!!

    • Anonymous

It does have an understated elegance.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, there’s definitely something about it’s simplicity that makes me want it.  You know what it’s capable of, yet it looks so professional.

      • Samvelavich

even if this smartphone is a little thicker than the razr.. i think it would be more comfortable to hold… i mean i can imagine holding the razr.. it would be kinda jagged and there would be an empty gap in my palm… this phone just has a elegant beauty to it and even the design was thought out to look nice while being able to hold that beastly processor inside… all in all this is an amazing device and any android lover would be smart to get this device…. this one, i think, is future proof for a good year or year and a half. The razr will die out soon im betting… I’ve talked too much lol i think most of you get the point by now

        • Megan

You think the razr is going to die out soon?  Seriously?  I mean yes this phone is better, by a slight margin.  The hardware inside both is identical, and the razr has an improved battery, better memory options and a slightly smaller screen.  You should probably never comment on anything again.

          • johnny

            razr = omap4430
            nexus = omap4460

          • Anonymous

There’s no difference, both are 45nm, both use the same CPU and GPU, both are running at 1.2 GHz.  The only possible difference is a slight speed bump on the GPU.

          • Guest

sorry dude they are NOT the same!!  I know you want them to be because you are a moto fan boy but they ARE NOT!!!  you can preach it till you are blue in the face!!!  THEY ARE DIFFERENT!!!

          • Anonymous

Facts are facts nimrod, you can keep denying them until you’re blue in the face but they aren’t changing.

          • Guest

sorry pal!!!  NOT THE SAME!!!!! keep thinking that tho!!!

          • Anonymous

            Whatever buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Anonymous

Razr is just as future proof and I really think it will appeal to business users. The device just looks powerful. All the new devices (barring any crazy flaws) will be future proof for a while. This is the beginning of the next chapter for Android in my opinion.

While I think growth will continue to happen the actual Phones/OS will focus on more refinement. I expect more high quality apps to start appearing sometime next year as well.

          • BeRealYo

How can you not mention the OS.  Android 4.0 is so far ahead of the pack.  This makes the nexus 10x better than razr, not to mention it doesn’t have a stupid skin from the manufacturer

      • Anonymous

I’m skeptical of the nexus S and this having different UI’s. Is this phone just slightly tweeked by samsung? 4.0 should just be 4.0 on a nexus device.

        • Anonymous

It is stock android no custom ui

        • Anonymous

          What?

        • Anonymous

Are you talking about what Kellex is running on the Nexus S compared to what is coming on the Galaxy Nexus? What Kellex is running is a port of an earlier version of 4.0. Nexus S will get the official release, when it it is officially released.

What do you guys think about battery life for this though?  No 4g phone yet can last a day.  This is mine and im sure a lot of others deciding factors.  (previous tbolt user)

      • Anonymous

Supposedly very similar to droid bionic battery life which is pretty good for an lte phone.

      • Anonymous

mine is fine. mine easily lasts almost 2 days.

    So much pretty

The +5V line on my OG Droid’s MicroUSB port has folded flat.  I need this phone now.

  • James Jun

To think we’ll see an Android device on Verizon with no logos besides the 4GLTE(which is cool to me), no bloatware, clean as a whistle……………..oh gawd :D:D:D:D

this phone needs to be able to be preordered. right now. i need this phone.

    • Anonymous

I don’t see Verizon offering a pre-order for this phone.  I was surprised to see one for the RAZR though, so you never know.  Although I expect the RAZR pre-orders were to boost sales of it since the Nexus was right around the corner.
