DROID HD Pops Up in Verizon Device Manager

On the heels of our report from yesterday that the DROID HD (along with the Nexus Prime and HTC Vigor) had appeared in Verizon’s Cellebrite, we received this shot of it in their Device Management system. Normally when you see a phone appear in Cellebrite, it’s almost always followed up by an appearance here, but we like DM because we get more details about the phone.

As you can see here, it’s most definitely a 4G LTE device, but for whatever reason may not be global.  I know that some of you love your global roamers – this just may not be the next of them.  Can the fact that the DROID HD is ultra-thin and no longer sports a PenTile screen outweigh that note though?  For most people, yes.

Cheers ___!

i’d use my xoom as a phone if it had the capabilities.. all these saying that 4.3 is too big? you’re probably never used a motorola m800. now these things are getting big again, but they have reason to. they utilize the big screen for web browsing, games, and other things. i’d get the samsung note if it came over here. i’d like a 5-7″ phone.

So sounds like this will not carry the iconic name of RAZR after all.  I mean it has come up in multiple verizon systems without the moniker so far.  So what is the RAZR and will it ever make a comeback.  Either way with a new nexus coming and this beast I am glad I have a few upgrades to use.

i had an OG droid and i loved it. then after purchasing the Droid X i loved the bigger screen size. my hands aren’t even big but i love the feel of it. i can’t handle using a phone with a screen size smaller than that. Even a 4″ screen does nothing for me.

  • Trusttheman85

No the problem is people just are never satisfyed… the bionic is a great phone, with great tech thats not gonna be out dated… unless android some how requires more then 1 gig of ram and duel core processer to run properly. Everyone’s holding there breath for the next best thing… just take the leap… bionic is a great phone… 1st true next gen feeling phone verizon has…. yes, you can hold your breath “just a little longer”, and be disapointed because the next phone won’t whipe your a** for you…

Two extremes i hate, “nothing can possibly better then it cause its apple” i*hone users, and “ha, you got [insert phone x], give it a few months, the [insert new shiney phone y] will blow yours away” android users

I not to mention my guys were found to be taking note of the good secrets and techniques from your website and before long I had a terrible feeling I never thanked the blog owner for them. These young boys were certainly thrilled to learn all of them and have in effect undoubtedly been using these things. I appreciate you for truly being simply thoughtful as well as for using this kind of amazing issues millions of individuals are really wanting to be informed on. Our own honest regret for not saying thanks to sooner.

It had been an absolute daunting dilemma in my position, but coming across a new skilled tactic you managed that took me to jump over happiness. I am happy for your help and in addition hope you realize what a great job your are doing teaching some other people all through a web site. I know that you have never encountered any of us.

Dude at the time you had two choices on VZW.  256 or 128 ram with all the horror show that is HTC.  Touch decision to make huh?  My OG actually loaded its web pages FASTER than the bionic in the store. And I suppose the first gen Pentium sucked because it wasn’t a p5?

          • Anonymous

I know that lol moto should made it 516 not 256. I love my bionic i just didn’t like that they made the battery cover plasticity. It is the king of all droid

  • Chad

What doesn’t outweigh that note is that it’s from Moto and therefore is full of MotoBlur and Bloatware. Nope!! Nexus Galaxy with vanilla Android for me.

Sadly, the fact that a new phone comes out every other week, is a Verizon and an Android problem. Look at other carriers and other operating systems. Only coming out with a new device every year isn’t a bad thing. Not to mention that not too many device have a completely stable OTA of Gingerbread, and already, ICS is coming sometime this month or next month.

So the way I see this I have two choices. 1 – Pass on the Prime(hopefully coming to VZW), keep my DX and see what this phone has to offer. 2 – Get the Prime(hopefully coming to VZW), and then kick myself when this phone comes out if it becomes the next big thing.  I am going to Option 2 because I know if I sit around and wait when the Droid HD comes out it may be amazing but there will be something better on the horizon.  I need to stand my ground and get a phone and suck it up lol.  If I keep waiting I will have my DX forever (which isn’t the worst thing since I love the phone).  BTW Option 3 should VZW not get the Prime I will have to check out another carrier.  If VZW can’t release just one bloat free phone I am not interested in them anymore.

    • Guest

No way would I take the HD/RAZR over the Nexus Prime.  But my thought process is that I’m going to hold out with my Droid X until somebody gets an ICS/NFC/HD Screen/thin form factor phone, and the best shot for that is the Nexus Prime.  Certainly won’t be the RAZR.

      • Anonymous

        Let’s see about that

      • Greatgambino37

I dont know what you are smoking.  Preliminary specs are already pointing towards two of your three requirements.  “Certainly won’t be the RAZR.”?  Really?  Unless you are talking about the original RAZR then I dont see what else you are looking for that this phone wont have.

      • hkklife

Advantages of RAZR:  -Solid Moto build quality
        -Solid Moto reception
        -MicroHDMI port built-in

        Disadvantages of RAZR:
-May not launch with ICS and if it does it’ll be full of bloat
-Fixed internal battery (and no high-capacity option available)

        Advantages of NP:
-Likely will have Valilla ICS (or close to it)
        -Huge screen, hopefully 720p

        Disadvantages of NP:
        -Cheap Samsung plastic build
-No microHDMI port standard (uses the lame & bulky MHL adapter instead)

            I know right

    • ChrisL

I agree. The options at Verizon are either too big or outdated. Not a whole lot of choice.

      • Igor

I got the Thunderbolt trying to grandfather myself into unlimited data. Despite all the bugs it has the single most annoying thing about it is its stupidly huge size. Too bad when I found out that all unlimited plans are grandfathered, it was too late. Now I’m stuck with this huge brick.

        • Paul Henderson

Yup, same here. If I knew my unlimited 3G would have rolled over to 4G devices, I wouldn’t have gotten this boat of a phone Thunderbolt. Its size is ridiculous! Too bad people who want high-end phones that aren’t tanks are out of luck.

    • TACHOMANBOICHILD

what is the rumored size?  I completely agree, tired of tablet phones…every top end android on verizon doesn’t need to be a tank…

            I agree

      • http://twitter.com/PatriciaErin Patty

Sorry, I’d have to disagree. I’d rather not hold a slab up to my face. Anything over 4.3 is just ridiculous. And even that is too big for my hands. As far as the “phones for girls go” I dont’ want that crap. The specs on those are always awful.

        • Anonymous

I understand the size concern not only for holding but transporting around. BUT…. I might rather carry a smaller phone, but I want to USE the bigger phone.

Have you for a period of time used a larger phone? I have a female friend who had the same concern as you. But once she used her new Thunderbolt for a while she got hooked on the benefits of a larger screen and never wants to go back.

But everyone wants different things from a phone which is why they have choices. But I doubt the top spec’d phones will be small anymore.

A while back I took my daughter to get a new phone and told her she could have any phone she wanted. She was tempted to go with the Charge for it’s nice screen and 4g, and she likes my Thunderbolt, but she opted to go with the Inc 2 with 3g because of it’s size. It just didn’t make sense for her to try and carry around a big phone. She loves it…

          • http://twitter.com/PatriciaErin Patty

I had a Fascinate which was okay because it was thin. It was replaced with a Droid Charge. While I love it, it’s too bulky. Hopefully the next Droid will be thinner. I’m okay with the 4.3 screen but like I said, anything over that is kind of overboard.

          • Tim

Welcome to the world of Android, Lol!!!! Maybe you should get a iPhone, it is more reliable!!!

          • Chris C

gtfo, people who aren’t iSheep don’t care or don’t want to hear the stupid “omg just get a iPhone”
It’s not more reliable,  apple is shady about what they keep track of, and they monitor everything.
The phones themselves have NOTHING to do with android, the OS. It’s like when people complain about windows running on a crappy no-name pc with poor specs.

TLDR: blame the phone manufactures not the android os – and don’t tell us to buy iphones

          • Anonymous

Actually I have a female friend who got the Iphone because honestly it made sense for her. She had many thousands of songs on itunes and she always wanted one. I normally would have tried to talk her out of it, but I agreed that it might be a good phone for her.

Well she loved it except for the fact that it had a major problem. It would very often completely lose signal and would not allow phone calls. I just figured it was a software issue that could be fixed. But I went online and searched and found there were many people with this same issue on the Verizon Iphone and there was nothing they could do. Even replacement phones did the same thing.

She liked my Thunderbolt and we went and got her one. After a short adjustment she has come to realize she likes the Thunderbolt and Android much better than her Iphone.

          • http://twitter.com/PatriciaErin Patty

Welcome to the world of “I don’t want a f!@#ing iPhone”, Lol!!!! *eyeroll* I’m on a Droid centric site, dude. An iPhone is not something I’m into.

          • Anonymous

The droid x had a 4.3 display but if they stretch it out, it can be 4.5 because the whole device
            Is around 4.7

          • http://twitter.com/PatriciaErin Patty

And that’s the main reason I had the DroidX for a few days and returned it. Too big.

Am I incorrect?  Most people (women and men) who actually use a phone with a larger screen tend to want to keep a larger screen. The reason is it is so much nicer working with.

Am I incorrect that it’s the ladies that tend to prefer a smaller phone than men?

I never said women belong with small phones.  I said that anyone who tries a large phone will probably stay with larger phones in the future.

It may not always be the case but isn’t it also the guys that usually want to root their phones and tinker? All the ladies I know just want their phone to work. My wife and another female friend let me root and rom their phones but they want nothing to do with it.

While the statements may or may not be sexist, it’s not a bad thing. There are “usually” 2 sexes and they both tend to like different things.

      • Anonymous

What!? My wife likes em BIG! LOL

      • Dpry3580

Amen to that. I had the Droid 1, then incredible, now the X. I wouldn’t CONSIDER getting smaller than 4.3now.

    • Anonymous

I wouldn’t worry tooooo much.  Remember when phones kept getting smaller?  I remember in 03-04 my girlfriend at the time bought this flip phone that was so small she had a hard time holding it to her ear, even with her slight hands.  They bounced back to a comfortable size.

Once the industry is done exploring how big we like our phones, I suspect we will see some offerings in a size that you in enjoy.

    • Anonymous

Yes because tiny phones are so in! Anyone who wouldn’t want more screen realestate to increase productivity is just crazy. If you want a cute little device get an mp3 player.

I don’t know if I can suffer through another year with my DX when this is coming out.

  • Tomgillotti

This is the phone that should have succeeded the Bionic (which should have been released last spring) but Moto seems to be so far behind that less than a month after the Bionic FINALLY came out, they are ready to release their second gen 4G device with all the rest of the second gens. Way to go Moto…

On top of everything else, if this phone doesn’t release with 4.0 ICS, I believe that Moto should consider their production team a failure. The Bionic should have been released with ICS on board, but that certainly doesn’t mean that it should have done so in the current (Fugly) form factor. The Droid HD is what the Bionic should have been and when it should have been (only after the delays). I still maintain that it should have been released last spring but when it didn’t look as though it would hit any reasonable timeline, they should have completely scrapped it and moved on.

Bottom line, the Droid HD MIGHT be the phone to have, but it’s highly unlikely. If you are looking for a superphone in the next couple of months, the Nexus phone from Sammy should be your selection. If you’ve been waiting patiently for the next iteration of the original Droid line (sporting a full physical QWERTY), then hold on because the Droid 4 should turn some heads. Now we wait for the manufactures to wow us.

Side note: I would be willing to bet that this February brings some huge news for the future of smartphones. Last year we had the introduction of dual core.. this year, not just quad+ core…

    Stay tuned ;)

    • Jjjjjj

Mirror mirror on the wall, is Tomgillotti the drunkest of them all?

    • Drewfus0929

Bionic should have been released with ICS? To do that they would have needed to delay it even longer, as ICS isn’t even released yet. Silly boy.

    • Anonymous

For it to launch with ics the bionic would have had to be delayed atleast another month since ICS isnt even official yet.

Motorola build quality is not as good as you make it out to be. My OG slider is completely clapped out with keys missing, and the bottom bezel on my DROID x is loose as a goose this annoys the hell out of me. Motorola phones may look to have superior build quality but actually aren’t really built to last the duration of a 2 year contract. Stop hyping over the build quality bc its not so accurate.

          • Anonymous

Lol that was the funniest thing i heard in my life. Moto and the iphone make the best build Quality of any smart phones period. Plastic is not a good build quality if you did not know.

or weeks for that matter lol

      • Anonymous

It is more with android phones than anything. Apple does not have this issue because they release one phone a year. I like having choices but wish these companies would take more time getting everything right and maybe making 3-4 a year that they can keep updated and current rather than having way more and only updating a quarter of them.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Alexander-Thacker/597252629 John Alexander Thacker

OTOH, Apple does not have the “issue” of having a phone that supports LTE or even HSPA+ yet. Releasing phones slowly has its drawbacks as well.

It’s odd but it’s human nature to feel like your current phone (or other gadget) just got worse simply because something better came out now.  Just like when the iPhone first came out the people who were happy to get it at the original price suddenly got upset when the price got cut.

LTE has nothing to do with updating the phones in a timely manner.

          • Granted

The only people that think their new phone is old, because something new is coming out soon, are people who read this site. Everyone else is grateful to have a new phone.

The saying you are looking for is “ignorance is bliss”.

I agree, if we try to follow technology, we will go broke.

        • Anonymous

i do agree with you 100 %. They should make new devices every 6 months that way we can say we have the best device for six months. I blame htc for this. They make a device every week, on top of that the devices that they make are all wackkkkkkkkkkkkk

I know i will stay with my droid hd a year or 2

Took back my GS2 to pay for classes, will hopefully be getting my MoPho this week.

          • Anonymous

mopho is a great device better looking than my bionic as well

      • Razerlite

Don’t tell my OG Droid it’s obsolete.  It might hurt it’s feelings.

        • Anonymous

Give it up already, the droid has been old news since droid x, which was the king of all droid till the bionic came out now

This isn’t the problem with mobile phones, this is just a fact of life in any electronics based product.  Televisions get cheaper absurdly fast after release, computers jump in leaps and bounds, mobile phones drop monthly….even accessories are sometimes obsoleted in short order.

Part of being an early adopter of new technology.  I think we have a strange mix here; of true early adopters(and innovators, folks who makes early adopters look slow to pick up tech), and folks who like technology but don’t understand the risks and rules of being an early adopter.

Really these people in the second category belong in the early majority group, but they are trying to keep up and can’t handle it!

Well maybe but as long as the phone does what you need/want it to you’re good!

    • AJ

the bionic was old news when the evo 3d came out

      • Jjjjjj

Why?  1.)A phone on sprint does not make a phone on Verizon old news. 2.)Plenty of reviews have said the Photon is the phone to get on sprint…..and the Bionic is around the same as the Photon.

        • AJ

It was just a joke :)

        • Anonymous

They made the photon the best looking one, including atrix and the bionic

    • peesashiz

      lol, dont worry though
the bionic is a great phone
as long as it does everything you wanted it to do, you’re good
even the OG Droid or earlier i*hones are still considered to be pretty good phones even a few years later

Bionic has been old news since CES 2011.

    • Adam Metzner

Remember how that phone should have come out months ago? yeah… It was old news the day it came out.

    • Spartan1308

This is probably Dinara.  This was already rumored to likely be coming before the end of the year.

      • Anonymous

This will be the device that i will stay for 2 year. i will rock my bionic too. I will have the two of them :)

    IS-95 support!? Totally buying now!

    • Pete

      What does IS 95 means?

      • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

It’s a first generation CDMA network. Older than 1xRTT. It’s Voice only.

This fall is going to be a great time to be a vzw customer.

    • Anonymous

      Should be pretty damn good.

And I may post this separately, but Moto did say they would start looking to unlock bootloaders by the end of this year. Could this be their first unlocked phone? Maybe with a little push from Google to do so?

      • Jarid Jasper

They also said that the Bionic would support 8 devices as a wifi hotpot…. so can we return the phone as we bought it under false information?

      • Anonymous

When can we expect this beast?

  • Dan

awww shiiiii, lol i think im still looking forward to seeing if the prime comes to VZW

If the Nexus is just as thin as the HD then I’ll probably get it, but the HD is looking better and better.  I just don’t know about Moto though.  I mean a totally open phone with ICS or a locked down Moto?  I’m still leaning toward the Nexus.

      • Anonymous

This is thinner than the nexus…hearing this phone is one solid device and “everything we wanted the Bionic to be as a super phone”. also has a shot a being the first unlockable boot loader?

        • Anonymous

This will be the best device of 2011mark my words

          • Anonymous

Yeah because it will only be out like a month before the new year.

          • Anonymous

Ok lets see which devices sell more on Verizon before the year ends

          • Anonymous

Yeah the prime and vigor will most likely sell just as well if not better even though they will be released a month or so after the bionic and bionic had more time to sell.

          • Anonymous

It does not matter the date, if the bionic its bad nobody will buy it. If the prime is so good, it can sell a lot within one month or two. It depends on the phones, reviews etc

          • Anonymous

it seems to me that the closer to the end of the year a phone comes out the better it’s chances of remaining phone of the year at year end…
