Thursday Poll: The Samsung Galaxy SII Is Not Coming To Verizon, What Are You Going To Do?

With the breaking news of the Samsung Galaxy SII not heading to Verizon, people are now only left with basically two options if they have been in the market for an upgraded phone. You can either get the DROID Bionic, or continue to wait for something better. There are talks of the next Nexus (codename Prime) heading to Verizon, but at this point it is still in rumor/hypebeast mode.

We know lots of readers here have been patiently waiting for Samsung and Verizon’s announcement of a Galaxy SII launch on Big Red, and now with reports stating the exact opposite, what are you plans?

With the Samsung Galaxy S2 not coming to Verizon, will you jump on the DROID Bionic or continue to wait?

i left verizon 3 weeks ago, i felt bad about it bc i loved their network. but you know what, im enjoying my practically free nexus s 4g from sprint. and i know without a doubt that they will carry the nexus  prime. who cares if verizons network is better than sprints. when you have a duo core phone on any network especially the prime its plenty fast and it makes up for the lose. think about it. people dont have iphones bc of att, att has customers bc of the iphone.

I’m getting the Bionic baby!!!! Come on Big Red!!!!

    Here comes Prime!

  • Dash Speeds

I want to know why so many people are excited about the Vigor, did they bother to do any research at all? The A8 snapdragon it’s most likely using is just an OC’d version of the same chip used in the Sensation, easily the weakest of the dual-core SoCs available right now.

    Two waaaaaaay better options.

1.) Buy the Bionic if you have an upgrade now (Actual release date, A9 SoC, Moto Radio/Build quality)
2.) Wait for the Prime if you are committed to skipping the Bionic ( Possible OMAP 4460(!!) vanilla android)

    • waiting

im not so sure if the vigor will be better or not. it will have that adreno gpu which looked pretty sweet in the promo vid, but the bigger questions are if the ram will be ddr2 speed and if it will be unlocked with that program htc is running.

i do like the moto feel  and the fact that they make their own chips .

      its a tough call.

im planning to wait till oct5 to see if that roadmap was true and if the vigor is actually released that day ill be able to compare both phones side by side and make my final decision.

so. the best thing i can do until then is completely avoid this site so i cant get hyped up over any further upcoming phones

  • Hmm

Buy the Bionic when the price goes to $199 and the bootloader gets unlocked.

    Chant with me

Nexus Prime.. WHOOO.. Nexus Prime.. WHOOO.. Nexus Prime.. WHOOO.. Nexus Prime

I won’t switch carriers.   Verizon is expensive, but it performs well, and family all uses it.

I will wait to see the situation on Nexus Prime.   If it’s on Verizon 4G, dual core, with NFC support, stock by Samsung later this year, I’ll wait for it.

Otherwise, evaluate Bionic without prejudice.   The Moto Mobility acquisition is a hopeful sign for the Bionic choice also.

How come there’s not an option here that says something like “I already own a ROOTED D3!!!!”

  • Klostehroff

Getting the bionic as planned. The GS2 is a good phone and all but I prefer Motor phones. Honestly with the lawsuit problems with Apple and that Samsung already lost in EU courts, the poor update support in the US for Samsung phones, makes me wonder how well it will o over. MY GF. Infuse still doesn’t have gingerbread.

I have been holding my OG together for SOOOO damn long at this point, it has almost become a fun game, to see how many times and ways I can update, and flash, and still keep it running…..
To that point, after waiting this long, and ALL the hype, I am NOT that impressed with the Bionic afterall….
I am going to hold out another 30 days after it launches (Sept. 8), and will hopefully see the HTC Vigor hit the market…

It will do EVERYTHING the Bionic can do but BETTER!
    - HD Display vs. Pentile
    - 2 MP front facing camera better than Bionic’s VGA
    - better sound with the new “BEATS” merger
    - 1.5 Ghz Dual Core
    - and a potentially UNLOCKED (or unlockable) bootloader

NO REASON not to wait another month at this point….VZW, you lose!

    • Dash Speeds

See my post, the Vigor is nothing to get excited about.

    • Jcastle482

      Unless it gets delayed too…

You know, I still don’t see the appeal of the Bionic. Yes, I know, more ram. But its essentially a Droid 3. And I’ve actually grown to love qHD.

    That’s not sarcasm either.

    • Dash Speeds

LTE is more than enough of a reason to be excited if you have it. Seeing as RAM is what killed the OG, any increase will further future-proof a phone.

  • VerizonSUkhard

sprint in my areas is actually great so guess I’ll have to leave my grandfathered unlimited plan with verizon and switch to sprint. I can double up on promos and get gs2 on sprint for like $25 plus tax no activation fee.

    • Dash Speeds

      K thx bye

  • http://www.facebook.com/cgrame Christopher Michael

I still have a few more months to wait before i get an upgrade so I don’t really care but if I didn’t whewwww would I be pi$$ed!

My contract on verizon doesn’t end till Feb 2012, so hoping the Samsung nexus prime on vzw is not just a rumor and comes out by then.

  • http://smartic.us bryanl

I’m waiting for the next Nexus. If it doesn’t come to Verizon, I’ll just reactivate my mifi LTE.

  • Stelv81

How about the option to buy another device on Verizon that has already been released?

  • ArE

    Root my Droid 3.

How bout option 3. Leave Verizon for another carrier that actually has decent phones! Glad my contract is up.

  • Anonymous

Droid Bionic it is, then. Interestingly enough, since I heard about the Bionic like what was it…several months ago, I’ve been waiting for this hopefully beast of a phone to finally arrive.

BUT because I can’t upgrade until early next year, I may end up getting a different phone that surpasses today’s phones by leaps and bounds. OR I may just wait to get the Droid Bionic.

I guess I still have awhile to decide before next year.

  • Stelv81

I wouldn’t count on the Nexus coming to Verizon. Bionc will not be a bad phone. The inc2 is also a pretty decent phone. But Verizon has never been the head of the pack when it comes to the latest and greatest phones (except for the original Droid launch). We all have to just face it. Verizon has great coverage but less than cutting edge phones. I am perfectly happy with my rooted Inc2 though, dont let the single core fool you…its a great performing device. Att and Verizon are my only 2 options in my area, so I can only chose from their phones.

  • Anonymous

Htc vigor or nexus prime for me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=686230518 Brian Mazzarella

As a Fascinate owner, I could really care less about the GSII on Verizon. Samsung/Verizon would probably manage to dick the phone up (Bing, CityID, VCast, VZNav, and tons of bugs/lag) so it’s no big loss in my book.

The Bionic looks impressive, but what I’m really hoping for is some truth to those Nexus Prime rumors.

  • CB

What about the possibility that Verizon passed on the SGII in favor of offering a “similar” Samsung device, i.e. the Samsung Nexus Prime, shortly thereafter? Makes sense to me.

  • Stephen D

:( Damn. Glad I didn’t wait. I was gonna hold out for it, but instead bought a Droid 3. If I would’ve waited until now, I’d be buying the D3 today. Ah well. Now I’m really happy since it just got root.

    • Caprich96

      congrats bro :)

saving the world from bing one device at a time.  could be one of the smartest moves verizon’s made yet!

    /sarcasm.

stupid verizon.  unless samsung announces the nexus prime monday too.  tell me that wouldn’t be freakin’ incredible!?

  • Mark

I’m in the 62% who said they were going to wait and I’m thinking about getting a *used* phone to buy me a few months. Is that crazy? (I have the OG droid and it’s driving me crazy – slow, acting weird, things breaking left and right. But I’d rather wait a few months and see which network the Nexus Prime pops up on.)

I mean, it feels stupid dropping a couple hundred on a burner, but what if I got an Incredible 2 off ebay or Craigslist? Then I won’t be forced into getting the bionic and being stuck with it for two years. Bad idea?

    • Bewara2009

dude just get the Bionic and if something better comes out than yeah sell your bionic, “Rule All Machine”

  • Mgault

This is complete bullshit    The bionic is just a glorified droid x2 with more ram.  Nothing else makes it so special.  I have been waiting all damn summer for a galaxy and now we arent getting it.  That sucks…….they better announce that damn prime on Monday or i am leaving too

    • Bewara2009

Hey kid Tough shit its life move on! “Rule All Machine”

    • Dash Speeds

No it isn’t. The OMAP 4 is a pretty good improvement over the Tegra 2.

  • Mike

    How about wait and see?

I’ve managed to keep my OG hobbling around long enough to still be good, but it’s at the end.  My wife’s Eris?  Yea, that one’s already dead.  God i love the Eris modding community to death – they actually made it a usable phone, but that poor thing is done.  Been hoarding my upgrades for the last four months waiting for a 4G phone that I feel will last another 2 years, and I don’t nkow how much longer these phones are gong to make it.

I’ll hold my breath through the Bionic’s launch, and probably get my wife one when it does launch.

But me?  If the Bionic launch comes, and we only have *rumors* of some mythical device coming to Verizon, I’ll buy the Bionic after I test drive it via the wife.  But if we have something solid and known to look forward to?  I’ll wait if it’s good enough.

  • Christopher Heuer

Should have included an option “Waiting for Nexus.”

  • Pete

Will imo we should not think abt changing a carriers for phones. A phone is nothing but paperweight without good network. And abt sprint, m a trucker so i go almost everypart of america and believe me guys verizon has way better coverage than any other carrier out there. I had sprint abt 3 years ago and it only worked in cities not on the interstates i mostly stay on. I had really tough time with sprint and m really happy with verizon

  • Mp66cuda

Verizon’s device/product management and marketing should be FIRED! Why provide the best coverage and the second best phones? I was all about the Bionic at CES…that was seven months ago. Now other carriers will have the new sleeker phone and IF I want to stay a VZW customer then I have the choice of a phone that will have yesterday’s technology (Bionic) or if I want to wait again, the possibility of a good phone (Prime)…end of rant. I’ll probably wait, was waiting for a phone that offered more and at least the Prime will have ICS.

    • Dash Speeds

      Not. The. Same. Bionic.

Do. I. Have. To. Say. It. Slower?

      • Mp66cuda

Thanks, I didn’t realize….it’s not the same phone because Motorola decided that they needed something different based on feedback they received (summary of their quote). That does not make it OK to come out with a slight variant of technology that is already surpassed. Their is no excuse when other manufactures are able to provide higher quality products. Motorola should step up and Verizon should make better product choices. IMHO

  • Jarred Sutherland

I’ve currently got the Thunderbolt and will hold onto it for a bit. Honestly, the only reason I will upgrade this year is if we get a Nexus device. Otherwise I enjoy having a rooted device with my choice of CM7,OMFGB/OMBG/whatever available for it. Granted the thing is huge because of the extended battery, but there is no reason for me to upgrade unless I am getting a faster device with better battery life. My wife will probably wait too, as her Fascinate is working as it should right now.

  • Bryan Hitchen

    I’m happy with my Droid 3 :)

I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Bionic vs Galaxy debate. No SGS2 on Verizon? Ehh… I’m over it. Figured it was close but had decided to go with Bionic anyways, UNTIL… I hear rumors of the next Nexus device being on Big Red. I’ll take Vanilla Android, Nexus goodness any day over the Galaxy. Galaxy or not, the Bionic should be a powerhouse phone for Verizon and maybe worth the upgrade IF the Nexus rumors fall through, or the phone takes an un-godly long time to launch (isn’t that almost the norm anymore though?).

  • http://profiles.google.com/sarrants Steve Arrants

I’m switching to Sprint–but not because of that. I can get too good a deal with corp. discounts. And I’ve had too put crap flung at me from Verizon”We don’t care, we don’t have to!” Wireless over the years.

  • Dash Speeds

Bionic for sure. Don’t care about vaporware (Prime) or HTC in the slightest.

this sucks, my last New Every 2 upgrade is in November i wonder how long i can hold on to that thing now, after having the OGdroid and now the DX i can say my X is alot nicer but i miss everything i could do with my D1, i just hope something comes along that can bring the noise and hope it comes around my upgrade time

I’ll eat my words and get a Bionic, but pray for a Nexus Prime. Of course, another Samsung device also involves me eating my words. In fact, I don’t think I can buy a new phone without it being from an OEM I’ve sworn I’d never buy from again… I’m sooooooo moody. :P
