Preview Of Google TV Now Available On Android SDK

If anybody here is an avid Google TV user, you will be pleased to hear that a Google TV preview has just been implemented into the Android SDK, and developers will soon be able to start building apps for your TV. Not only can they build apps, but some of applications will already be usable on your televisions.

The Android Market will also be available on your TV, and you will have the ability to download and use all compatible applications right on your television set. Winning? Back at Google I/O, they mentioned that soon we would be seeing Android implemented into lots of household appliances, and it looks like the time is coming upon us. No, this isn’t science fiction, it’s the GoogleFridge!

Having the Android Market on our TV’s is great, but do we need the Market on our dishwashers? All jokes aside, do we have a bunch of Google TV users here? The Logitech Revue hit $99 dollars recently, and we know a few people picked them up. Go check it out.

I hope devs start working on home replacements for Google tv. Like launcher pro, ADW, and SPB Shell 3d

You saying “winning” compromised the whole integrity of that post.

    • Nicholas Shaffer

It’s okay, as long as the phrase “winning” is not preceded with “duh”.

Thanks so much for giving everyone such a memorable opportunity to check tips from this site. It can be so ideal and also stuffed with amusement for me personally and my office friends to visit your web site the equivalent of thrice per week to see the latest tips you will have. Not to mention, I’m just certainly contented with the unique guidelines you give. Certain 2 tips on this page are essentially the most efficient I’ve had.

THEY SHOULD RELEASE THE SDK EARLY SO DEVELOPERS KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!

I’m posting this from my Google TV :-)

This is actually quite brilliant…especially for social media wise. Well, not exactly social media, but in the sense that say you’re watching a TV show or movie, and want your followers on Twitter or friends on Facebook to know about it, then you can just hit a “Send” or whatever button and bam, what you’re watching gets delivered to Facebook and/or Twitter. But this would just be the tip of the iceberg, the possibilities are limitless, Android app-wise.

    • Granted

That’s assuming that you would think other people care what you’re watching on television.

      • Anonymous

I’m just using that as an example, troll.

I have an htpc running win 7 on my tv.. Google TV seems nice but I prefer having a real computer. If I wanted to, I could just run Google TV in an emulator.

People think 99 for a touchpad is a steal but 99 for a GTV is still too expensive. Talk about perspective. I bought the GTV and liked it but it was still half baked and not very useful. I might have reconsidered if it was 99 then but the touchpad for 99 is really nice deal. Have a galaxy tab 10.1 and a cm7 nook color. awesome

Let me know when I can stream my DVR with it and then I’ll get it . I can already do everything else with my PS3 and Droid X.

After all the success Google is having with their products like smatphones, tablets, and now tvs I think the next device Google should make should be computers and laptops. Having a full Android OS like Honeycomb or a better version in the future on my laptop would be the best. with the Android market to download apps directly to your laptop

    • Anonymous

They already make one, but it’s Chrome OS, not Android. Would be kinda cool to have an Android based laptop!

      • http://twitter.com/zer0cool96 Nick Daddona

ice cream sandwich is the answer. thats the whole idea behind it. to merge the mobile and desktop OS. the same way microsoft is reportedly changing windows8 to mimic WP7.

    finally

Google Fridge? I’ll take it! (Actually, not that we need the full blown OS on a dishwasher, but enough capability for an appliance to notify a user upon certain events… that would be pretty kickass.)

    • http://twitter.com/NovembersDirge The Observer

Yep. It could text you that the dishes are done, or if something was cooking in the stove you could get a text telling you to raise or lower the temperature. Then, with your phone, you could text commands back to the stove, and the stove could do what you’ve instructed it to do. There are tons of possible uses around the house for things like this.

I feel like I’m missing something. For $99, this seems like a steal.

    • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

      It is :)

      • Anonymous

So how many GoogleTV devices do we currently have available?

    • Anonymous

      you are…

  • Buddy

I got a Revue. For $99 – totally worth it as an early adopter. For the original price I used up all those gift cards on – I should have waited. This development however makes it much more worth while.

  • Anonymous

I have a high def TV but no cable (its expensive in DC) is google TV worth getting?

    • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

For $99…..yes. Do you use Netflix? Do you use Hulu? Then get GoogleTV.
And with Honeycomb support right around the corner, pick up a tablet while you’re at it :P

      • Anonymous

I use the heck out of Netflix and hulu, and have a xoom. What will this do for me? Thank you for your help

        • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

Well basically, it just adds an internet feature to your HDTV. So you’ll be able to watch Netflix, and all that stuff straight on your TV. Plus, the added feature of browsing the web all from your couch.

Check here if you’re interested. :)

I’ve read that hulu doesn’t work with this.. even if I am a paying hulu+ member?

          • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

Yes, I will have to take back what I said about Hulu+. Doesn’t look like it’s supported yet. Sorry.
But, if you have internet, like the dude above me said, you might be better off getting an XBox :P

That way, you can play real games too :)

          • Anonymous

Don’t you have to pay extra to use Hulu plus on an Xbox though? Xbox live or something?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jeff-Bernard/100001785826703 Jeff Bernard

yeah you need a gold membership and hulu plus membership. total it runs you 16 bucks a month which is still much cheaper than cable.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jeff-Bernard/100001785826703 Jeff Bernard

You are better off spending and extra $100 an XBox 360 over a google tv. Google tV is worthless with out cable and network support, neither of which you will have.

        • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

spend $250 and get a PS3. Hulu Plus app, and netlix already there, and a built in blu-ray player.

    • Rob Meyer

with netflix, and then the marketplace.. My answer would be soon.. Yes..
