have never rooted DroidX, 4.5.605 I’m with verizon, grandfathered limitless data.
have never rooted anything – but thinking of getting pad & don’t want to pay for use.

what do i do?

So, i’m completely new to this, and reading about the rooting and gingerbread and all that, then reading the comments, it makes absolutely no sense to me. Someone help me out please????

It is free and if you can’t figure out how to compile it yourself then

Indeed – I wondered why I would be having problems with .602 and others say its great. I think there are hardware differences.

I’m with you. No offense to those that enjoy the full potential of the Droid that rooting provides. I rooted my phone to rid it of apps that I don’t use that Verizon FORCES me to have on my Droid X. The Madden app wouldn’t even work. Now I’m here with Froyo 2.3.340 and would love to upgrade to Gingerbread but I don’t want to screw my phone up. Does “completely stock” mean all mandatory apps I deleted must be reinstalled? Will simply telling z4 to unroot phone allow me to upgrade to Gingerbread (rooted or unrooted)? I’ve seen Gingerbread on a friend’s phone and I like it a LOT more, but I don’t have 5 hours to commit to reading up on all the ends and outs of getting GB. What a hassle.

Then this is not for you. There is so much you can do with your rooted X and it’s a lot of fun! But it’s only fun for those that want to have that fun. If you don’t enjoy all the cool roms available, and all the improvements then stock might be best for you. Nothing wrong with that…

Quick Question: I’m rooted and I checked my system version and it shows 2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US. Is this the same as being on 2.3.340 and that I don’t need to SBF to 2.3.340 and just need to install both zips with bootstrap?

you can only SBF through a computer. not on a phone.
