Apple is losing the mobile market, if I remember correctly apple just dipped under 38 and android is in the upper 40s. From how apple and rim completely controlled the market 2 years ago and android basically came from 0 to over take apple in about 4 years.

Tablet market different story, but android is doing the same thing is did with phones that it is now doing with its tablets. So I give its about a year and a half b4 Android gets a significant share in the tab market

Choice is a good thing, which is why I think Windows Phone 7 has the right idea. I do however feel that with android, sometimes people think that they want this phone with this really cool feature but then realize that it can’t do some of the other things they want it to do. I bought an htc Thunderbolt because it had 4g, a great selling point, but now I can’t play tegra 2 games. At the point at which those extra features are limiting what you can do with your phone, it’s no longer a great tradeoff. What I’m saying is there needs to be a point in between.

Let’s not pretend that one of the reasons why there are 600,000 sales are because of cheap phones that you can get free on contract which is great but people are again not realizing how limiting those phones are going to be, they will think they can run everything on the app market.

I’m not implying the Android OS is a lower quality system, I personally believe that the absolute best smartphone on the market is the nexus One. It is thin and light, AMOLED screen, I like the curved screen, and have found the OS incredibly responsive. This is why it is like the mac/pc. With the Mac, you have few expensive options but they are all going to work well. With Android, you can buy a cheap phone that will be slow and not work as well or you can buy a high end phone and do all of the latest and greatest.

“Sure ios is polished but that is only because it does not do half of what Android devices do and that is a fact that you cant deny” I’m not really sure what services you are specifically referring to but it doesn’t really matter. I would prefer a phone that was fast but had a couple less features than a phone that had all the bells and whistles that ran slow. All of this could be avoided if Google wouldn’t give manufacturers the ability to modify Android to the degree that they do, let them install some apps that are removable but don’t let them do things that will slow android so much.

Actually for the majority of consumers that choice is a GREAT thing. Each Android device has a certain “selling” point or unique aspect that makes it for everyone, hence the reason why nearly 600,000 are activated everyday and hence the reason Android controls the smartphone market. I grow tired of people calling the Android OS a lower quality system (which you are implying with your mac/pc comparison) The majority of people who say that have either never used it or do not know how. Sure ios is “polished” but thats only because it does not do half of what Android devices do and that is a fact that you cant deny. But regardless what it comes down to is personal preference.

Oh that right, you’re a fandroid. You’re programmed to think that marketshare is everything, when in fact, it means very little. When you haul in 50% of smartphone profits from one phone, does marketshare really matter? Android won that battle because manufacturers dived head first into the cheap, low end of the market, a place where Apple has avoided mainly because there is little to no money to be made there. Artificially inflating marketshare numbers with 2 for 1 deals and Amazon deals where u can get an Android phone for a penny does little to nothing for a company’s bottom line, evidence by the fact that Apple makes nearly 3 times as much from the IPHONE ALONE as Google does from it’s entire operation. I’m sure that most people that live outside the fandroid geek bubble would choose profitshare over marketshare if given a choice between the too. But not in the twisted logic of fandroids. I forgot….my bad

I agree with you in certain ways, but their are android phones I know outselling the 3Gs I just can not remember where I saw that. I also know that the iPhone 4 is the number one selling phone right now now questions about it. The thing I see though (I live in downtown D.C.) is a few years ago anyone who had a smartphone it was blackberry, but then more and more people switched to the iPhone. While apple may keep selling more and more iPhones it is because more people are buying. If we look at the percentage of people around D.C. (and some of the demographics this site has shown) I see more and more iPhones every day, but the percentage of them is few compared to the rapidly growing amount of andorid and WP7 phones. Apple has gained some new stiff competition in the mobile processing arena, and this is no way to combat them and I hope that this turns on them. But apple makes a great phone and OS, and have an amazing game cataloged and their is no arguing that, and they are a name brand to say the least.

Sales mean nothing, look at how many more people have a smart phone now than what did a year ago. Hell even blackberry’s sales were up and they are more business person oriented. Look though at the percent of market share that the i*hone holds and compare that to a year ago.
