I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. If you compare D3 out of the box to various phones with custom ROMs, kernels, etc., it will appear to underperform. You can overclock and trick out a phone until its quadrant scores are much higher than when it originally shipped. One of the ROMs I used on Thunderbolt actually had a utility that allowed you to boost your quadrant scores artificially. You can also overclock a kernel to the bleeding edge and get a benchmark before the phone shuts down. Benchmarks can be played, and even when there is none of that going on, they tend to measure a narrow spectrum of performance, which may or may not be relevant to real-world performance.

Not making excuses, nor do I need to. 2500 quadrant out of the box is a solid quadrant for a dual core at 1 GHz. I would expect a dual core to do little if any better than a single core on a single-threaded benchmark, but much better on a multi-thread benchmark. I expect RAM size and speed to play a role, as well as GPU, although their role in user experience may be more or less significant than the benchmark suggests. Finally, operating system and skin are likely to have a dramatic impact on your perception of the phone, but less so on the benchmark.

I’m on my 4th phone in a year and a half and the answer is easy.

Many people bought a Droid 1 when it came out. We fell in love with it and all of the amazing things it could do. All the roms and customizing and we got hooked!

When the next Droids came out we wanted more power and larger screens… And everything would have been great but there were bumps in the road… (Locked bootloaders).

Sadly the phones are getting better but nothing yet has lived up to what could have been.

This is why I am currently on the T-Bolt and loving it…it can be fully unlocked. And I’ve never had an issue with my phone like so many.
