You realize that the original droid came out in November of 09 right? If you had to satisfy a 2 year contract (since they already got rid of the 1 yr early upgrade) you would not be able to upgrade until July at the earliest? Thats still 3 mos away.

First part: That is what I meant.

Second part: How about you take your advise and read the comment I made below this one.

Third part: I would say of those complaining about it, about 70% use it, and a majority of the rest planned on using it.

It’s a big deal for this community, which is why the article was posted in the first place. I tend to agree with the complainers (even though I am content with my 2 years). It’s is a dumb move by Verizon. If they had advertised it more and not ignored it, more people would have used it. They shouldn’t be punishing us for something they’re at fault for.

Is it just me, or is Verizon the new AT&T?! I remember when Verizon bent over backwards for you.. Now it seems I cant bend over cause they’ll stick it up my you know what! I’ve been a Verizon customer for many years now, left AT&T… But if they keep this up I might just move back to AT&T… ok maybe not but you know what I mean. Verizon stop being a bunch of greedy bastards and show us the love again!

well I personally was planning to go to a 1-year contract in September but know I guess I have to hold onto my OG Droid until January and switch to another carrier. Damn shame since I have been a Verizon customer since before the merger.

I bought two Thunderbolts in the last week, to take advantage of a) the end of 1-year contracts; b) to ensure that the 4G unlimited data plan would be grandfathered in, when THAT is removed.

Sorry sir that is incorrect. Business owners are not the only ones with an ECPD on their profile. Essentially if you work for any large organization/government that has a major acct with verizon you’ll be fine. And for the vast majority of people I work with, they have an ECPD on the acct. Think about it, GE, Travelers, Aetna, Target, Home Depot, Stop and Shop, any of these things are covered by this clause. Again, check details please before there’s a forum mob with pitchforks and torches ready to burn buildings. The effect this will really have on will not be as big as this website and these users are making it out to be. And honestly, how man people here that are complaining about the dismissal of the one year contracts actually take advantage of them??

The reason 1 year contracts weren’t in demand was that Verizon offered early upgrade options so you could get a new phone basically yearly. Since they had already axed the early upgrade I was planning on switching to one year contracts from now on…oops

After my current 1 year Verizon contract is done I will now be porting out to AT&TMobile. I just don’t do two year contracts any longer. Verizon just shot themselves in the foot im afraid.

Dear Verizon: If you want to streamline your process and eliminate confusion, don’t take away 1-year contracts… make a 1-year contract TWELVE months, and a two-year contract TWENTY-FOUR months – not ten and twenty, respectively.

Even if they do merge, it ought not affect anything for at least a year; probably longer.
