With CES now behind us and MWC on its way, we wanted to slip in our first Q&A Session of 2017. We have a very busy and exciting year ahead of us, one likely filled with plenty of new phones, Chromebooks, Android TV set-top boxes, Android Wear watches, and maybe even a tablet or two.
The Q&A Sessions are an opportunity for you — our beloved reader — to ask us anything on your mind. It can concern Android or can also be about anything that’s not related to Android. We can talk about the latest NVIDIA SHIELD and how FedEx sucks during snow storms, why Android tablets should just die already, or maybe what would make an Android Wear smartwatch worth purchasing. It’s all up to you.
On Friday, we will compile a bunch of your questions and then post our answers.
Here’s to a solid 2017, y’all.

You guys have any thoughts on the rumored chrome OS and android merger with andromeda OS?
Who’s your favorite character on Game of Thrones (living or not)? If you don’t watch, start now and report back. I’ll wait…
Why did wireless charging fail to move forward with the new devices? Can it make a comeback?
I really wanted a Note 7. Do you think they’ll come out with a Note 8? You know. Bigger, better and won’t explode? If they don’t, is the Pixel a good replacement?
How do you feel about Amazon Alexa dominating CES 2017? They seemed like they were in practically everything, from cars to refrigerators. Do you think Google is too late to compete?
What Smart devices do you own/use? How has IoT influenced your lives so far?
Who do you think will win the race in the smart home & IoT competition?
What will smartphone manufacturers have to do to impress you guys this year?
I’m actually gonna ask a question thats been bothering me. I got Google Home for Xmas. What do you guys forsee, as far as updates and future functionality to rival/beat Echo? Whats the overall future of Home V1.0?
Any new year resolutions? Personal or business.
Now that Android, as an OS, is more stable, powerful, smooth, and better than before in every way – what do you think it will take for Android to gain bigger ground in the US?
Android devices no longer need to out-spec iPhones because the software is better than years past. It now comes down to an experience sort of like the Pixel phones. Would it be more marketing? Unified messaging system? Better quality apps? etc.
I think messaging would be huge. I know when I was on iOS that was a big reason for me to stay. Obviously after awhile you just get used to not having it. But man is it convenient.
I’m genuinely curious: What’s so convenient about it? I’ve never had an iPhone, so I literally have no idea what’s different about it.
I mean it’s just so fast and convenient. You can send huge files video etc without a problem. There’s never a little thing telling you your message it more then 160 characters. It automatically defaults to SMS if you don’t have service or the other person isn’t on an iPhone. Now on iOS 10 you can pick read recipients for just your loved ones which is nice. It just overall works better. Granted you can’t change you app if you want something different but I feel like Google could make something happen and if you didn’t want it you could still have something different. Allo is garbage in my opinion. iMessage is by far my favorite feature in iOS.
What are you hoping to see with Google’s flagship smartwatches this year? Who do you think the manufacturer will be? Are they worth being excited for?
Are you guys going to review the Huawei Mate 9/Mate 9 Pro phones?
Mate 9, yes. After I’m done with NVIDIA SHIELD, you’ll see Mate 9 review shortly after.
Why do so many people think Android tablets should die? They are a great media consuming device if they were made correctly. Smartwatches on the other hand need to go away. They are almost completely pointless.
I wondered the same on the tablets.. I can’t do note taking/ etc. on my phone, and as I’m already invested in Android, I’d rather just have an Android tablet. .. As far as the smartwatches, I only want one for aesthetics. Which is why I haven’t bought one yet, can’t afford to look like I have money to blow.
Do you think that google will offer some sort of discount to the nexus people who are having issue since nougat hit?
Who do you think will be the next big name in phones in the US? With a lot of new manufactures coming in, Who does Samsung need to keep an eye on?
Do you think it would be so hard for Samsung to release a Flagship specked phone like an S8 with vanilla android just once a year, and then just pass on the updates to the phones?
Am I your #1/favorite commenter in the DL community?
Can’t have favorites, but you’re up there 😛

I knew it.
Who will be the NFL MVP and who will win Super Bowl 51?
If Samsung and LG release unlocked U.S. models for their 2017 flagships, would you recommend people buy them?
Begin rant:
The only reason I ask is because both Samsung and LG have been terrible when it comes to updating their unlocked U.S. flagships. The unlocked S7 and S7 Edge have always lagged behind carrier updates. The carrier models have been pretty consistent when getting security updates, but the unlocked models have usually been stuck on an older security patch. When contacting Samsung about this, some people stated that they were told the unlocked models are on a quarterly update cycle, compared to the monthly ones for the carrier variants. Additionally, the unlocked models were never allowed into the Nougat beta.
For LG, the unlocked U.S. G5 still hasn’t gotten Nougat and is stuck on the July security patch. Meanwhile, the carrier models of the G5 have already been updated to Nougat and received more security patch updates. Also, the unlocked V20 hasn’t seen any update since it was released and is currently on the October security patch.
For those that usually blame the carriers for slow updates, keep in mind that isn’t always the case. People usually go the unlocked route for quicker updates, but Samsung and LG never got the memo.
Where do you go for other tech news and reviews (not android)? Cameras? Home Theater? Smart home?
For me… Rtings …. just found them this year
Nice, I’ll check them out, thanks
Theres also that HiFi forum, as far as audio components.

Two questions:
How long before Android and mobile devices overall just peak and no more improvements can be made? We used to root our Droids and overclock the processors to get more speed but we dont really need to do that anymore, has mobile tech peaked for the time being?
What are the chances a Google Pixel smartwatch will come out this year?
That’s silly. Mobile devices are computers. Computers have not peaked. Mobile phones are not nearly powerful enough yet to handle the near future of vision-related tasks from connected devices – and that’s just one aspect of future tech. Your phone is going to be the processing power behind many things. If you envision a future where the form factor of VR (big goggles like Vive or Oculus) stays the same, then you can picture eventually plugging those into your phone or (more realistically) your phone driving them over a short, very high bandwidth, very low latency wireless connection, rather than requiring a standalone PC.
There is no peak to technological advancement.
Will the Warriors win it all this year?
Will the Google wear devices coming suck?
Will this ever get boring? Meaning will we ever get to the point where its all the same song and dance? Companies are always innovating and most duplicating, but will it ever get too boring or will someone raise the bar higher?
I think its already at the point. I am just hoping for OS improvements to increase battery life. I still from time to time get weird battery drains that keep my system awake for hours causing it to get hot and die in a few hours. While I dont like my work iPhone it does work and without a hitch.
yea i feel the same. My work iPhone (7+)surprisingly outperfroms my nexus 6P in the battery department. Granted its a brand new phones vs a near 16 month old phone. But its night and day. I can easily get 2 days of battery on my 7+, i mean easily with heavy use.
You answered your first/second question with your last sentence.
Yea but I want the guys opinions on it as well.
What do you think, if anything, will Samsung focus on to move away from the Note 7 to increase S8 sales since many Note customers need/want a new device?
What do you think the next trend in mobile tech should be? Last year was modularity (which was a bust mostly).
Looks like this year is shaping up to be ultrawide aspect ratios and minimal bezels…finally! It’s also the year we see the disappearance of removable batteries from a flagship and a swift decline in the headphone jack as everyone falls over themselves to copy Apple for no good reason.
I can’t remember what company it was, maybe BLU, but a couple of years ago a company made a bezel less phone. MKBHD made a video about it even..
I remember thinking it was ahead of its time because I’m pretty sure it bombed.
It was the Sharp Aquos Crystal. It bombed because it was a low-end Sprint exclusive from an unknown (to western audiences) manufacturer. There have been several similar devices from Sharp that were only sold in Japan that have come out since.
Most of us wanna see bigger batteries. And we’re willing to sacrifice a mm or so of thickness for it.
Seems like bigger everything is the “in” thing. Bigger screens, more pixels (literally and figuratively), bigger batteries…
I guess what’s a suitable size battery? My Pixel XL gets me though a workday just fine.
My 6P is legit. I don’t wanna see a phone under 3200MaH.
