Amazon Launches Cloud Drive Desktop Application, Must Have For Cloud Users

by: | posted 05.02.12 | News

Amazon has released the Cloud Drive desktop application for even easier access to your files and music that are stored on their cloud servers. With the desktop client (available for both PC and Mac), you can simply drag and drop your files onto the desktop icon for instant uploading to the cloud, then have access to them from any of your mobile devices that have a web connection. Note that there is no actual Cloud Drive app yet, unless you’re using the storage for music, which you can use the Amazon MP3 application for.

Motorola MotoActv Receives Update – New Features Depend on Whether or Not You Loaded the Golf Software

by: | posted 05.02.12 | News

Owners of the Motorola MotoActv, you have an update available. It’s fairly minor, but we wanted to point out that there are different versions of it depending on your current software status. If you took the golf update before it was pulled in early April, you get build 1.6.12 which includes new golf stuff. If you forgot or didn’t care about the golf software and missed your opportunity to update to it, you get build 1.6.13. The updates are essentially the same, one just has golf features and the other does not.

New Firefox Aims to Create Uniform Experience Across Desktop, Phones and Tablets

by: | posted 05.02.12 | Apps, News

A presentation by Mozilla’s Madhava Enros has surfaced online, giving us a look at the future of their popular browser, better known as Firefox. In the slides, you can quickly figure out what the goal is here – to create a browser that looks and feels the same across all platforms, hence the “distinctive and unified” mention at the top of the first slide. Over the last few months, they merged their mobile and desktop teams to hopefully make this dream come true.

The motto for this new project seems to be “soft, friendly, and human,” and that makes sense. After cruising through the slides, I sort of see what they are getting at with the curves, soft colors, and simple approach (wait, is that human?). In the presentation, you will find a number of pictures that represent the Firefox team’s ideas for the future of the browser. Be sure to check it out at the source link below.

by: | posted 05.02.12 | Galaxy Nexus, News, Root

When the new IMM76K Android 4.0.4 update leaked yesterday for the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, many of us focused immediately on the new radios that came with it. Could these solve many of the hand-off issues and failures to attach to 4G networks that owners have experienced since day one? Only one way to find out and that’s by flashing them to your phone. Thanks to XDA member mwalt2, a flashable .zip is available for you after the break.

Google Play Adds Carrier Billing Support of Movies, Music, and Apps for Multiple Carriers – No Verizon Love Yet

by: | posted 05.02.12 | News

Google has launched additional carrier billing support on the Play Store for three out of the four major wireless carriers in America, excluding Verizon. Not that Google didn’t offer, but we have a feeling Verizon decided to decline the service for reasons unbeknownst. Previously, AT&T and T-Mobile customers could charge applications to their monthly bill, but now users can checkout movies, books, and even music straight on to their wireless bill. So, what’s up Verizon? When can Big Red subscribers get in on the action? Oh that’s right, you have your own App store that handles that.

The event will be broadcast live via Facebook for you all to watch, but we plan to have a live blog around these parts as well, since this is the most anticipated tech device to launch in some time. The Galaxy Nexus was a big deal, but after seeing how many smartphones Samsung shipped in the last quarter, we aren’t sure that it’s fair to even compare the two. This is huge.

So what can we expect to see? After months of rumors and speculation, it will all be official tomorrow. That won’t stop us from diving into it all one last time to make some predictions. Follow along below.

Tomorrow, Verizon is to launch their new HomeFusion broadband service in the US. After a $200 installation fee, customers can experience 4G LTE power right in their living room at 10GB for $60 a month or $90 for 20GB. So, Big Red comes to install a “cylinder-shaped antenna” to your house, then once installed, you can have up to twenty devices connected to the router at once. The service is geared towards folks who do not have major providers in their area such as Comcast and Time Warner who provide these services at a subsidized price.
