Question of the Day: What Do You Want to See in the Motorola/Google “X” Phone?

motorola x phone

In the comments section for the article we just posted about this rumored Google/Motorola X Phone, people are already setting up their wishlist in terms of what they want to see with the device. People are hoping for 4G LTE, a large battery, high resolution displays, and of course, an unlockable bootloader.

We decided to throw up this post to give people a proper place to start throwing out ideas for what they need to see in this device. As for the DL team, we have our hopes on a flexible display, the best camera to ever grace a smartphone, a move towards premium materials rather than the plastics we often see, and let’s throw in that Tegra 4 while you’re at it.

Let’s hear your ideas for the X Phone!

4000K 6.6″ display, nuclear battery and the new 5/6G that VZW was bragging about working on. Unlocked of course.

  • Vodun28

    1. 32 to 64 gigs sd card or 1 Tera bit
    2. International capable gsm or the latest technology to allow me to use the phone while I travel abroad.
    3. 5000 mah battery
    4. Intel core i7 or latest processor to allow for multifunctional rather simultaneous use of programs and phone calls while using Bluetooth
    5. All that google will offer and if google does stand up their own network allow the same unlimited data plan as Sprint.
6 key lime OS to include quicker updates and have the ability link with tablet x and google chrome book or design a laptop in the series of this x phone production.
    7. Highest quality resolution for optics to include 3d technology
    8. Comfort fit to the hand anything larger than 4.8 to 4.9 you should get a nexus 7 or something’s of that nature.

  • SB

Take the Droid RAZR MAXX HD

Increase the screen size to 4.8 inches – edge to edge screen.
Fix the camera (better low light sensor, better software).
    The “perfect phone”…

  • TheTruthSquad

All of these comments are asking for more of present technology. I want something that is so new that none of these commenters have ever dreamed of it. How about a wifi radio that will pick up a signal 10 miles away? How about a built in satellite phone? Would that be cool?Google could launch the satellites and sell us unlimited everything for $20 a month. How about a dock that will replace my av receiver and is wireless so every device in the house could use it? How about a projector that displays on a screen so I can dump my TVs?
You have to think outside the box to put Apple to shame. Damn, I forgot, Apple already has patents on all of this.

  • Johnnybravox

Wish they would make a windows 8 phone

  • Roger W Turner

Bluetooth 4 (BLE). I’m having to buy an Apple next week to supplement my Gnex and N7 because Android refuse to implement it.

  • EyesSewnShut

And removable batteries are worthless. More likely to break something if you drop the phone. A physical key reset option like the current Motorola products is perfect.

  • EyesSewnShut

lol a keyboard? da fuq? This is supposed to be a revolutionary phone. Not a dinosaur. The multi-touch capabilities should be good enough to completely eliminate the need for a physical keyboard..

  • Samuel Serafim

    1) amazing and best camera xperience in the market.
    2) Anroid 4.2 or better,
    3) 4,7 and 4 inchs size variants
    4) Amazing desing, NO on screen keys, Tv out.
    5) Ultra cheap price.

  • To be honest I would like an Android phone I can support updates for 2 years or more. I’m getting really sick and tired of having to buy a new Android phone just to get the latest version of Android. You think you have the latest and greatest phone, but then next week the new version of Android comes out and your phone didn’t make the list. I am #TeamAndroid but that right there would make me leave and go to an iPhone. Spec wise, long battery life, great camera, and an impressive screen.

  • Fattie McDoogles

I would love to see an OEM software suite and skin/theme/whatever that sits on top of Android instead of an OEM version of Android. The ability to get updates without having to have the delay for building new software versions would be amazing. I think it would benefit Android and the OEM’s greatly. Less work for the OEM’s and less turnaround time for updates to be applications and OS versions.

Other than that I would love to see a really great camera. I want one to rival standalone cameras not smartphone cameras. Also I would love to see a breakthrough on the battery front. Not just a huge battery.

  • David Narada Brown

Great battery life, stock android, good hd screen, good storage options, atleast 2 gigs of ram, super good processor!

  • Things taken for Granted:

    1. BIGGG battery
    2. Great Radios
    3. Clean UI
    4. Still Slim
    5. QuadCore CPU + 2GB RAM
    6. FullHD Edge to Edge display
    7. NFC

    Things EXTRA needed:

    1. GREAT GREAT Camera (with XENON Flash) — Because this is only where Android phones are behind Nokia…
    2. Unlockable bootloader and ensure vast dev support
    3. SBF file available for each update.
    4. Relatively Cheaper..
    5. Please Google, DO NOT remove the microSD slot…

    • Diablo81588

Xenon flash? What’s the advantage to that? I’d rather not have a high voltage capacitor in my hands lol. Not to mention, xenon bulbs are stressed by short bursts of power such as a camera flash, meaning it won’t last long.

  • Joe Paul

Project Glass is made by Google X lab…. Just saying…

Please have removable storage and large internal storage like the Xoom.

If we add that to a removable battery and top of the line other specs we are talking about one hell of a phone.

  • Updates from Google, I don’t want carriers to handle updates at all. Not even Verizon.

  • nexuschimp

    Unlockable bootloader on vzw

  • IObamagnome

Sounds like people are describing the Note 2 except wrapped in the typical Motorola ugly exterior angled edge package.

    • Diablo81588

No one is describing the note 2, and cheap glossy plastic is not pretty.

  • Alexander Garcia

I’m sure that whatever they put out will be quite impressive. Surprise me! Just one thing… Make it available on all four major US carriers!

  • R. Bambang Widiatmoko

What I want…hah, thats a pretty long list there-
-4.7″/4.8″ -ish display . I’ll prefer SLCD2/3 (they’re more refined than the Samoleds’ of today)
-minimum of 16gigs storage, microSD support will be an advantage
    -Stock android
-The newer Krait quadcores(they beat the hell out of the competition)
-2gigs of RAM seems a norm for flagships
-The body structure can be like the nexus4(not the glass back) or somewhat like One X

-8/12 mp camera (A phone camera will always remain so)
-Upwards of 2000mAh battery (This is where android lacks IMO)
-All of the connectivity(LTE, NFC, wifi.ac, pentaband 3G support, BT4.0LE)
-Definitely on-screen keys (they are much better)
-RGB notification led (why does everyone miss out on these ?)

And no back glass please(it looks awesome but the durability is a concern).

  • imns

I don’t care how old-school it may be, I want a qwerty slider damn it! Preferably one with a halfway decent screen this time.

  • Drew Chapman

    Battery life!

  • Dillon Brown

The best the industry has to offer in all scenarios such as specs and more so aesthetics and overall “feel.” while I will welcome spec Increases, and at this point in the game itself all about the software. For the camera a fantastic sensor is much appreciated, but the software needs to be there to make it shine. In other realms its about the refinements in making android and the phone feel like it deserves the number 1 spot. Samsung phones are nice but they don’t just feel nice. I am a ceramic man myself but, also the software needs to feel fast consistently, and not if you’re swiping through pages over and over again. Also BATTERY nuf’ said.

  • Akashshr

    Hell yess!!!
Bob: What do you have there.?
Boss: I got the Moto X!!!!!

  • John Davids

Simple. 12MP cam. 4G LTE. 4.25-4.5″ edge-to-edge screen with the curved edges like the HTC Win8 phone. srsly have you swiped on that bitch? feels great. 1080p. 24h batt with moderate use. unlocked bootloader. quad core. 2GB+ ram. who cares about internal storage. metal build that feels like the iphone. now listen, i know we all hate the iphone and everything, but from a hardware perspective, thats a sweet ass body. I want an all aluminum frame. feels solid as hell. NO GLASS KPLZTHX.

  • David K.

    – monoblock- 4,3” hd/full hd display
    – edge-to-edge format
    – 2gb RAM
    – optional internal storage (16/32/64)
    – stock JB
    – very good sound chip/ sound quality
    – premeum materials/design
    – qaud core or intel chip (the last one is more efficient)
    – 3300 Mah battery
    – physical home button (not sensor)

Dont like big screens and big phones, for ex.Razr M/i is the best size in phones, plus still quite big display.

  • Mchl496

We want to see everything… Its not hard to figure out. I have some things which set me apart from most fans here. Front and rear facing flash. Cameras with large sensors. Front facing camera should be a minimum 5mp. Rear facing camera doesn’t need to be bigger then 8… just needs a large sensor. Needs Stereo sound. KICK STAND(like the thunderbolt)…. Battery needs to be 3300 mA. Bluetooth 4.0, NFC.

Needs to accept micro sd. The phone doesn’t need to be flexible… it does need to be to able to handle a drop from nipple height to concrete without shattering.

    32 GB RAM

    5000+ mAh BATTERY

    Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 150W Six-Core PROCESSOR

pfff voLTE more like 5g lte

If a tech company were to do something like this and make it free only one could, and thats Google

    1) 5.0″ screen with onscreen buttons and slim bezels (like razr M) so it has the same or smaller footprint as the GS3. either 720p SAMOLED+ or 768p+ (or higher) IPS or SuperLCD
    2) snapdragon s4 pro or higher CPU + 2 GB RAM
    3) multi-band LTE, OR release on all carriers.
    4) MAXX battery
    5) since this is a google built (not old moto built) phone, it probably wont have an SD card. so give me 32 and 64 GB storage options
    6) wireless charging
    7) either MicroHDMI or MHL. none of this SlimPort BS from the nexus 4
    8) Wifi AC

i think everything here should be pretty reasonable to ask for, except maybe #8

  • Jason Brown

I’m loving all the posts. I won’t make it repetitive since everyone posted great specs that I’m looking forward to. one point I thought I would make is that I find it interesting that everyone is mentioning 4g lte as a feature. we’ve come to expect that as a pretty standard feature these days and the possibility of it not being in the motorola nexus would be terrible if it came true. hopefully google doesn’t backtrack again by putting out a phone with 4g lte that can’t be activated without some hacking.

  • Snarky

    A Motorola phone with a gyro….

  • C’mon. Tell me what I don’t even know I need. That’s what innovation is all about. All this pick-the-best-specs-from-every-phone is a waste of time. Make it the best, not just better. Somebody has already been first, now be right.

  • sporttster

DL, like your choices. Definately should have a top flight camera. It’s time to get excellent qualtiy pics. 2g ram, a SD card slot, huge battery, powerful energy sipping processor and large, vibrant, low power sucking screen. Good quality build materials are a definate plus as well. And a open BL…well, I’d drop my Razr Maxx in a hot minute to pick this bad boy up!!!!!!!!!

  • tiredofcrap

How about unlocked and 2gb of ddr5 and have Google kick the programmers in the butt to make apps die when they are exited!! My god phones are fast enough now to where we don’t need apps to continuously run and eat up ram so that anything lags! Changing memory settings is not hard but when I touch my home screen and need to scroll I don’t want to see any hesitation!!

  • Droosh

The impossible. A stock phone on Verizon available for a reasonable unsubsidized price.

  • droyd4life

    Motorola Nexus X

    – Verizon
    – 2400-3400 MaH battery sizw (non-removable)

    – Unlocked, $400 and $450, On-Contract $150 and $200
    – 8MP Boss camera
    – NFC
    – No MicroSD card (sorry, it’s not happening.)
    – Sexy

  • your welcome

Ummmm instead of a little 1.2 inch battery, make the battery thin BUT the size of the phone. 5.1 inch battery that would be what 7600 mAh. I don’t understand the short and fat batteries when you can have tall and thin. Mind freaked

  • 1. Top of the line arm processor, best at release.

    2. 10MP + camera, possibly front facing camera in

    3.4G LTE

    4.2GB + RAM

    5. 2 screen sizes : 1 is 4.8” and the other 5.5”
with screen res matching or exceeding retina

    6. The 5.5” has a slide out controller similar to Sony
    Experia Play

    7. 16GB internal expandable with microSD

    8.USB and HDMI

    9.BT 4.0 and 802.11n

    10. Finally the phone must be a NEXUS with all the
support of a device supported with that name

  • CapnShiner

    1) Make it a Nexus, sell it on all carriers (perhaps Key Lime Pie?)

    2) < 5" screen

    3) No hardware navigation buttons

    4) Metal alloy casing, not plastic (exception can be made for area around antenna)

    5) MicroSD slot that can be accessed without removing the battery or no less than 32Gb of user-accessible internal storage

    6) 2+ GB of RAM

    7) Quad-core CPU

    8) 10+ hours of battery life

    9) LTE

    10) Best-in-class camera

    11) Front-facing HD camera

    12) 1080p 16:9 screen, preferrably non-pen-tile-matrix

    13) Best-in-class speaker/sound quality for calls

    14) NFC

    15) Wireless charging

    16) VoLTE

    17) Fingerprint scanner

    18) Multicolor LED notification light

    19) Removable battery

    20) While I'm dreaming, I may as well include a cure for cancer and world peace

    • Jason Merewitz

      Finger Print scanner?

      • CapnShiner

Yes, for unlocking the phone and whatever else developers want to do with it. That’s not a must for me, but I wanted to think outside the box a little and it seems like a cool idea. It could go on the back of the device or possibly built into one of the edges. Face recognition is little unreliable at the moment, so why not try another kind of biometric security?

        • Diablo81588

          The Atrix already had that.

  • your welcome

Damn I’m original. And that’s just off the top of my head.

  • your welcome

    Wrong answer.
    1. Cpu slider and governor control from notification bar, and settings.
    2. IR blaster
    3. Someone mentioned front loud speaker, umnmmm yes.
    4. The whole front of the phone should be all screen, all screen
(innovative design with everything incorporated into bezel)
    5. Soft touch back, slippery GS3 is a joke.
    6. Developer Zone app, so when you make a new option like multi window, people that are registered can apply it to their device without waiting on some rich suits. of course these would be from a secure trusted source like M or Sammy, not outside developers.
    7. Official website link with oneclick root and unroot option
    8. Liquid cooled components
    9. Accessories available at launch.
    10. FM transmitter, like the thing that plugs into your cigarette lighter in your car and then transmits music from your phone to the station of your choice. Yeah that thing BUILT IN.

  • stevie j

i want a fith row of apps on my home screen, Imaps, and a game changing noise cancelling mic on the back…..oh wait!

  • ulnek

4500mah battery! 2gb ram! better camera, at least 32gb internal storage. basically i want a razr maxx hd that has 2gb of ram and better camera. not asking too much.

  • This is way dreaming but that 44 mp cmos sensor with the legit optical zoom with a SD slot and a 5″ HD screen, that would do it for me.

  • J2

I don’t care how many “cores” it has. I want no LAG ever. So plenty of ram.
The Idea of up-gradable phones is a good idea but( I have put thought into this) When you would upgrade parts you would have to put drivers or instructions that would enable the phones ram, processor, screen, keyboard or touch sensor to work with all the other tools in the box. Lots of programming to be done there. Phones would increase in cost like a desktop or desktop software. On top of this Google would need to put out the android software that would be able to see or work with all of these different components. If they did not and left it up to the manufactures of the parts then you would run into patches into the system making it unstable.
Sorry I will get off of the soapbox now.

Umm uhh LTE, bendable screens, big flat battery, keyboards that could be snapped on for folks that like the keyboard. This is one upgrade that I see that could be do-able.

  • dezignstuff

    – sd card
    – big battery

    – nice materials like the HTC One X, One S, or a soft touch material
    – Nice design like the HTC One X, One S

    – FM radio
    – kickstand
    – dedicated camera button
    – reprogrammable recent apps
    – unlocked bootloader
    – quality audio
    – 4.3 – 4.7″ screen

  • Eric

    Droid X3

  • edmicman

    An iPhone that runs Android.

I’m only mostly joking. Much as I hate it, the hardware on the iPhone is really, really good. The build quality is really really good. The touchscreen is really really good.

What I would love to see in a Motorola ne”X”us:

I really like my VZW Galaxy Nexus, but I really wish the screen was just *slightly* smaller. I definitely don’t want something bigger.

But at the same time I want an even higher res screen. Come on X, blow me away.

I want a better camera. Give me the best camera, and make it fast.

I want a better speakerphone. A longer battery would be nice of course, but I don’t want it at the expense of making it ugly. Let me put in an extended battery if I want.

I don’t really care about an SD card so if it makes things easier, keep it out.

I want LTE on Verizon, but I want it to be able to be updated by me and Google, without having to root and unlock it. But I still want to be able to do those things, too. I would think coming direct from Google it would be unlocked anyway.

My contract is up next fall, cross my fingers?

    • Samuel Serafim

Agreed. I dont like iphone but Android have very few phones capable to compete with iphones in camera. I do love a Android with a iphone’s camera and with 4 inch screen size.
