I agree with all of you points. Good post.
The real problem is that that the cellphone manufacturers, Google and the service providers want you to have everything live in the cloud. Unfortunately unlimited plans are no more, unless you're grandfathered in....and Wifi ISN'T everywhere...and if it is, it's not always free or open.

Until THAT happens...I'll need the local space. Unless those Samsung 64GB chips they just cranked out get like 2-3 put in a phone!

There's two problems I have with this. First, manufacturers are pushing for the cloud, yes. Carriers, on the other hand, are putting more and more limitations on data caps (if I use Plex to stream a 720p BluRay ripped movie to my phone or tablet, that's like 5+ gigs at full quality, even half quality it's still the entire data cap for many people), and coverage, especially at the 4G level, is nowhere near where it needs to be for this to be reality yet.

But for the moment, let's ignore that. Pretend 4G coverage is everywhere, worldwide, and data caps are nonexistent. Streaming music is now wonderful, high quality, works everywhere. Same for movies and tv shows, works perfectly. But games? Games aren't streamed currently. Sure, there's the occasionall OnLive-esque system for phones/tablets, but those are few and far between. 99% of mobile games are downloaded and locally installed. Looking at my installs right now on my GS3, MC3 takes 2.68 GB, Dark Knight takes 2.28 GB, NOVA 3 1.76 GB, Asphalt 7 1.49 GB, and Real Racing 2 takes 1.05 GB. That's just 5 games, and that's 9.26 gigs taken up. Ignoring the fact that I'm on Sprint and it's a GSM device, the N4 would be completely out of the question for me. I couldn't even install those 5 games at once on the phone for the 8 GB version, and wouldn't have all that much space left on the 16, and that's FIVE games. Why should I be limited to such a low number of simultaneously installed games? It's not like app sizes are trending downward or anything, either...

So that's why I want my 32GB devices (or 64? 128? I would HAPPILY buy those...). If we ever get to a time when coverage/network speed isn't an issue, and data caps aren't an issue, AND there's some sort of magical ultimate OnLive-style system where I just install that one app, open it, and pick any game I want and just play it immediately, no loading, all stream, then I will happily buy a device with tiny-ass onboard storage. But until that happens, I needz mah geebees. Plus, it's frickin' 2012, memory prices are getting so cheap, there's even less of a reason to skimp than there was in years before.

Absolutely a deal breaker. Reason of privacy, for one.

You see, there is no way you can erase your old data from a flash memory, if you go to sell the phone. I have tried erasing and rewriting 5-6 times, and I was still able to recover everything that was on there. Flash memory doesn't work like a hard drive. Hard drive you can erase. Flash memory, you can't.

Don't let some Ebay pervert play with your pictures or videos. No way No how that you can remove internal memory from a phone. With a micro sd card, you just pull it out and use it in your new phone. Thats just one reason. There are many more. External cards are cheap and will get cheaper and larger.
