I’m super glad to see them using this feature! I use navigation a lot and for the past many months I was using the onscreen zoom buttons from the labs section while driving, this will be so much easier and therefore safer.

Yes – really annoying that the shortcut has gone – I use latitude far more often than maps or navigation and the shortcut was really useful. Now I have to launch maps and then select Latitude. Someone has said “Good riddance” but it’s easy to hide a button/shortcut that you don’t use but impossible to use one thats not included now. Maybe they think Navigation should be removed as well?

yes, maps. The feature is rather brilliant, but do you rally want the gf to know you stopped at kfc instead of salad express?

Well before this I just enabled +/- buttons in settings > display…but that’s another cool option with the slide zoom.

Make sure you give Gary Sui, developer of xScope Browser some props for this. I’m not sure whether Google was influenced by his work, but he’s been developing since OG Droid, and pin to zoom was one of his early implementations. Unlike the Apple ecosphere, I’m sure he’s honored such an implementation showed up in maps, though he’s much to modest to take any credit.

Seems like Google is hedging a bit in case they can’t get the pinch-to-zoom invalidated.

So much the better, I say. I always use my device one handed anyways. Only drawback is you can’t pan and zoom at the same time.

i didnt know but look over a two story mall and the numbers 1 and 2 appear to the right and you can change levels. CRAZY !
