Please Put Out Something Cool Today, Apple [Opinion]

With Apple’s new iPhone event taking place in just a few hours, this may be coming too late for it to change anything, but that isn’t really the point. I’ve been really pondering lately what Apple could do with the iPhone 5 to make even me excited, a jaded Android user who doesn’t get stoked about 4″ displays, 4G LTE, or even quad-core processors anymore. NFC technology? Yeah, I’ve had that since the Nexus S and still hardly ever use it. But as many would argue, the iPhone 5 will still somehow be magical and sell millions and millions of units becoming the new “industry standard” for every OEM and your friends to compare every new and old device to.

This is why I hope Apple can actually put out something even myself can get excited about. Even though I wouldn’t go out and buy one, I would at least know that Apple has set the bar “higher” for every other device maker to step up standards in the quality and design department. Better displays, better materials, and whatever else they feel they need to “steal” from Apple to make people want to buy their phones.

It’s not that I think Apple is truly innovative or is doing things better, but I think it’s just that the other OEMs are stuck in this cycle of comparing everything Apple does to their own. The clearest and most recent example of this was Motorola comparing their newest RAZR lineup to last year’s iPhone model. What was the point of that?

As a lover of all things mobile, it’s easy to see that an awesome iPhone means better Android devices in the future.

  • shecalledmejay

I don’t know ever since I got this nexus and put aokp jelly bean on it, I can’t even think of something that apple can do, that will impress me.

  • JazzoRenee

I haven’t been impressed with Apple since 2009 or 2010 *shrugs* and I own 2 Apple devices most currently Ipod Touch 3rd generation. My next next electronic purchase will be an Android tablet. Probably Samsung.

  • Manny

This many people can’t be wrong. The iphones 5 release will be on every blog, every news cast and every where else people talk. Most of us here forget that this is a buisness 1 feature here or there isn’t going to change that. Niether will any opinions any one of us has This has been buzzing for maybe 2 months and since most big companies understand what advertisement and word of mouth does to a product release. After today’s event Google, Moto, LG, Samsung and HTC, will all be running around trying to do what ever they can no make sure they don’t loose any potential customer. We here are in the minority ACCEPT IT. What ever apple releases WILL BE COOL.

I’m curious if the switch to a new plug will convert a lot of iphoners to android. Most people who stick with iphones probably do so because they already have all the attachments and plugs for their cars/radios/whatever. If they have to replace all of that they might as well get an android that is cheaper and (thanks to recent lawsuits) quite similar to iphones.

  • http://www.pcprocare.com/ Barry Taylor

I’m really hoping they have something new here. Kind of expecting it. I’m not an apple fan by any means, and like Tim, I personally wouldn’t buy an apple product just based off of my dislike. HOWEVER, Even up until yesterday, manufacturers were basing their NEWEST phones off the iPhone, comparing specs like it’s a triumph a year later to beat the iPhone.. So, we all know, and can agree that even if we don’t agree, the iPhone is the industry leader to consumers of a “Higher Standard”. So, this will just mean that whatever happens this morning, all other manufacturers will have to step their game up to compete. I’m excited for that. – Loving my GNex & N7!

    • summit1986

I’d expect specs alongside the S3 or One X. The technology just isn’t there to go above and beyond yet.

      • http://www.pcprocare.com/ Barry Taylor

I’m not really talking specs.. However, there is a possibility there’s SOMETHING there that’s new. But, I’m thinking more along the lines of a new feature. Something that will “kind of” be on android, but not quite the same.

  • VZWIndirect

From a retail standpoint, the iPhone has it’s place. A good sales rep knows what this place is, and will only put a customer into an iPhone if it is the right fit for them.

First, and most important question I always ask a customer is, do they already own or use Apple products? If the customer uses Mac computers, has an iPad, and an iPod, then the familiar OS, and the simple integration between the devices makes it a logical choice.

Second is what are looking to do with their device. If they just want the phone to do, well, “phone stuff”….making calls, texts, and checking email…minor web browsing, ect, then the iPhone is a possibility. If they have no interest in development, customization, or the more technical uses of a smartphone, then the iPhone is not a bad choice.

Third is age of the customer and experience with smartphones. I have found it easier for older, less technical users, and first time smartphone owners to find the iPhone easier to learn and use with less frustration.

And, honestly, one of the iPhone biggest selling points in my store has been the smaller size. Prior to the Incredible 4 (and the upcoming RazrM) the iPhone was the only decent, small smartphone. And many uses, especially women with smaller hands, did not care for the larger phones such as the Razr or the GSIII.

Long story short, there is a place for the iPhone. It is up to the Rep to know when it is the right phone, and when its not. In most all cases where there is not a good reason to sell a customer an iPhone, Android is usually the better choice. With the addition of quality, smaller phones, there are options now to fill that slot.

    • summit1986

in other words, It’s a great phone for window lickers. Trololo

  • satsmine2k4

Apple and cool parted ways long back coz cool is not patentable or stealable….

  • apple=sheep

still not looking forward to all the sheep on LTE

    • summit1986

I view it as a positive, same way I feel about NFC. The more people we have using it, the faster it will spread and be available to the masses. NFC on the iPhone (wishful thinking) would really be a HUGE boost to the tech.

      • Detonation

Unfortunately for LTE, the more people we have using it, the slower it will go.

        • summit1986

Truth there, but the networks will continue to expand coverage and capacity. Perhaps at a faster rate if the the demand is higher.

        • Superdroid

          Thank god for data cap.

  • http://twitter.com/Mayzse Dave Amburn

Why would you want the iPhone 5 to be successful? So Apple can pad their bank account and continue suing everybody with no regard? I hope the iPhone 5 fails miserably. It’s time for the evil empire to die.

    • troy studnicka

It is dying, it can’t compare to android and what it has put out there and continues to put out there!! But, you know there will always be those isheep that don’t care about the newest technology, they just like having a ipod for their music lol

    • dm33

And Samsung to take over the world. Cause Samesung is a wonderful nice company with no evil criminally convicted CEO who owns the South Korean government in charge.

  • Robert Jakiel

From a purely technological standpoint there is nothing that Apple can offer today that we haven’t seen before in the GNex, SGS3, GNote II, HTC One X and HTC One S. Hell the new Sony Xperia T is beautiful and as much as I hate Motorola the RAZR M when compared to the iPhone 5 will probably end up being on par or better for a whole $99.

  • U Mad Bro? No But Your Mom Is

Well if that’s the case were all screwed because the i5 is gonna be a 4″ iPhone 4S with Facebook integration, LTE and maybe NFC. But I won’t be surprised if the piece of crap doesn’t even have NFC.

    • summit1986

I doubt it will, unless Apple comes out with their own mobile payment system to compete with ISIS and Wallet. Apple would never miss an opportunity to make money from every transaction.

  • kc

today’s announcement, depending on how it goes, will decide if I stay with android or switch to apple. we will see what happens….

  • Anakin Solo

I am enjoying my last few days of great 4G speeds before the Apple zombies destroy every 4G network. Am I the only one hoping the new iphone is still 3G :)

  • Tim242

More Apple articles than Engadget haha

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

The Android world has paused as we await Apple’s announcements…

      • Tim242

Haha. I’m excited. If it checks all of my boxes, I may switch, at least for now. I love Android, but I’m bored with the hardware. You almost sounded like you are in the same spot right now.

        • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

Hah no no. I won’t be making the switch anytime soon :)

  • Turb0wned

Droid life is running out of things to write about.

  • Jose C

    Be prepared to be dissappointed,
    Tim-o-tato

  • Bob

I have had numerous iphones as well as the droid 1 and droid x. I am due for a new phone. To be honest, form factor is very important to me. The fact that rumors suggest that 5 will be the 4 and 4s thinner and a tad bit longer does nothing for me.It is essentially the exact form factor we have seen for 3 years now. I hate the 3.5 screen on my 4s. Tell me how making it longer rather then a wider does any good. If you are like me, who needs a phone mostly for emails. The longer screen serves no purpose becasue the width is unchanged. If I was heavy into games and movies, my answer may be different. Unless the rumors are false and we have not seen the iphone, I will be going with the razr hd maxx. Just my 2 cents.

    • JazzoRenee

The Razr line is a great line and does not get it’s deserving credit.

  • J. Gilbertson

I love my android and will probably never use an iPhone but what I must admit is that if apple can get its fanboys on to something new, say NFC, it will push the industry standard as you said. If NFC becomes a new norm and you have something like iWallet more vendors will use NFC card readers at their checkout and more Android manufacturers will adopt NFC. Personally I don’t have it on my phone since I’m rocking the RAZR MAXX but I feel that even if I did have NFC I could never go anywhere without my wallet because there are not enough vendors using NFC readers. Once apple gets on board, the whole apple loving world will get on board and it will become the latest craze.

    • wheineman

Everybody in Philadelphia has NFC Readers, but i still don’t pay with wallet. It is not much any than just swiping my (real) wallet over the reader and using my NFC Credit Card (the same one that is tied to Google Wallet)

      • J. Gilbertson

The idea would be one less thing to carry around with me but then again google wallet can’t replace everything else in my wallet (i.e. drivers license, health insurance card, ect…). But the idea of NFC payment is a novelty and good one at that. The fact that if you forget your card or if you’re a woman and don’t want to carry around your purse you still have your phone to buy drinks at the bar.

    • Ken Bosse

I said the same type of thing over on phandroid.
I really hope they do NFC, but the latest rumor I heard from a apple lover is that it wont have it. Ihope hes wrong.

    • carlisimo

Supposedly there won’t be NFC because Apple wants to come up with a solution that’s compatible with older iPhones still for sale (the 4 and 4s, assuming they drop the 3gs). Pity.

      • J. Gilbertson

They can always go for the ASUS solution, DONGLE!!! LOL

  • majormudafuckinhun

I’ve been an Android user from the get go. However if this is all that I’m going to get 1!

  • durangojim

I think its interesting that many android reviews are saying that they really like the size and form factor of the razr m which is similar in size to the new iPhone. What I’m looking for is a device with great battery life’ lte, and a superb camera that I can switch between my nexus with.

  • arturo_bandini

Isn’t this basically just going to be the Incredible LTE with iOS in place of Android and a slightly snazzier case?

    • http://sleepit.myopenid.com/ SleepIT

Almost exactly my comment on another article!

  • Reeltaak

Look, the fact of the matter is whatever Apple decides to release today is going to steer the smartphone market till next year. It will be any phone vs Iphone’s screen, processor, etc etc etc. There is no way around it, and with Samsung getting dinged, every manufacturer is going to do their best to see what Apple is doing, and work around it the best they can. Whether its to release better specs, a better App/OS ecosystem, or just a newer build, Apple doing what they do best (Hype) is the best thing to happen to the industry. Android thrived as being the alternative, and will have to continue to thrive that way, unless Google decides to sign on Apple’s hype machine engineers.

    • Go Hawkeyes

The problem is if the last few iPhones are to be any indication this one won’t have anything new and revolutionary about it. It’ll just be tech that has been in Android and WinMo phones for a while but in a prettier and more fragile shell. This only results in Android device makers dragging their ass in truly innovating the latest and greatest tech.

I sincerely hope the new iPhone comes out with a processor faster than any other, a battery that lasts longer than any other, the most RAM, perfected NFC and LTE, etc. Why? Because it will cause Android device makers to respond with even greater devices.

      • JazzoRenee

        it won’t.

        • Robert Jakiel

          Agreed

      • Reeltaak

        My point exactly.

  • http://twitter.com/Xeneize480 Xeneize480

it’s this blog about apple or android??? Maybe I went to the wrong site :/

    • http://www.droid-life.com/ Tim-o-tato

What does that even mean? Did you only read the title or what?

      • TuckandRoll84

He might have read the title but he didn’t read the article.

      • Bsody

Reading the article just wastes valuable time one could be using to make uninformed comments.

    • Hunter

It’s about Android and the mobile environment in which it lives. Well today that environment is changing with the intro of the new iPhone. Everything that comes out today will have a direct effect on Android and future devices.

Get over yourself and enjoy the show.

  • CRH45

Competition is one thing, suing the competition over everything they beat you at is another.

    • dm33

Competition is one thing but copying everything Apple does even if it isn’t good is stupid and Samsung is it in spades. Copy the power adapter to the mm? Copy the box, store, even the shirts in the store, Mini, icons, launchpad screen, gestures. How blatant does it have to be. The Chinese iPhone 5 knockoff is copying perfected. Maybe Samesung will copy them too.

    • gorkon

EXACTLY. You sue when you are nervous.

      • gorkon

        and greedy.

  • bogy25

I said it before and will say it again……………F apple!

    • troy studnicka

yeah apple suuuuuucks!!!! it has been over taken by android baby ;)

    • picaso86

      They need more cowbell….

    • michael arazan

Until media sources see what apple really is for their true self, and stop comparing everything to the iphone, things won’t change. If apple started manufacturing in the U.S. and actually worked with licensing fees or patent trades instead of suing everything and fair business practices and ethics, i’d have a little more respect, but that’ll never happen. Apple is just a whiny lil bitch that screams and cries till it gets their way like a spoiled child, they can’t stand competition and think they are entitled to be a monopoly of the smartphone market, and thank god they aren’t.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=548497404 Hans Dirk Kwazneski

I really hope they do, I’m personally an Android guy when it comes to phones, but own a Retina Macbook Pro, and I REALLY want to see something different, Jobs always said THINK DIFFERENT, and sadly, the iPhone hasn’t ‘thought different’ for several years now.

  • sc0rch3d

make the phone a virtual machine. The iPhone5 startup screen – choose your OS of choice to install (WP, JB, iOS, WebOS) :)

    • http://www.hammertechnologies.net/ Chase Johnson

im actually kinda surprised a manufacturer hasnt come out with a blank phone. There are blank computers that you can install your own OS why not phones. Im not saying it would be easy since every carrier has different radios and freq. but still.

  • http://twitter.com/misterE33 Mr E

I’ve been having a hard time thinking of what would make me lust after the iPhone 5. I also kind of hope they pull something out of left-field, because if it’s just a spec-increase, it will be boring. Either way, I’ll be keeping my GS3 for a long time.

  • Josh Crouch

Well said…I totally agree. Whatever apple does introduce today regarding iphone 5 will only be a positive step forward for android devices. 2013 is going to be “the” year for android after what goes down today. Set the bar high Apple, so we can knock you right back down by January!

  • root4life

i def wouldnt mind better hardware from moto or sammy. really to me htc has the best with its aluminium and ceramic hardware. the other need to play catch up. i dont mind having a thin and light plastic device but a more durable one would be great too while keeping it attractive

    • Go Hawkeyes

I thought good solid metal construction was a must too until I got my SGS3. The plastic does not make it feel cheap at all. It makes it more inviting in my opinion. The glass and metal construction of other devices just make them feel cold in my opinion.

      • http://twitter.com/misterE33 Mr E

Same here. I had a Thunderbolt before this was was almost built like a brick. The texturing was pleasant, but I’m happy with the “plastic” GS3. Plastic can actually be a very advanced material. I did not care for the feel of a naked iPhone with all the sharp ridges, etc., personally.

        • Go Hawkeyes

I had the Thunderbolt before as well. It felt like a brick. And weighed as much as one too. It was a great phone but I was glad to get rid of it.

      • root4life

i have a GNEX and i love it. i didnt mean to imply it feels cheap but there are other option. i wouldnt mind a carbon fiber model or something like what moto has been using for their backs and im over just glass and metal if you catch my drift ;)

  • Galaxy-S3

I have had to FR my S3 twice already because of the copy/paste crash bug. Looking forward to getting the new iPhone, even if it’ll cost me full price.

    • troy studnicka

Sorry to hear that, I’ve not had any problems with my s3. It’s the best phone I’ve had SO FAR ;)

    • Go Hawkeyes

What is this copy/paste crash bug you speak of? I’ve never experienced any problems with copy/paste. Works flawlessly.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=506346156 Josh Salvi

had the same thing with my S3. The clipboard gets full/corrupted and any copy causes a crash of that application. Without root the only fix found was a FR. With root you can just delete the clipboard files.

      • Galaxy-S3

It’s out there. This last time I’m leaving off Swiftkey to see if that’s what was causing it. Nobody seems to have a fix other than FR.

    • Kenneth Boyer

      Here here, same with me.

  • troy studnicka

Haha yeah riiight!!!! There is nothing they will come out with that’ll make me want to switch! 4 inch screen please!! That’s to small!! 4G LTE is great but much better on a galaxy s3 with a faster processor and more ram. Maybe if they come out with a 4.5 inch super amoled plus hd screen 720P like the s3, not almost 720P like what the new phone will have ha!!! 2 gig of ram, 1 gig of ram is old news now. Edge to edge display, oh wait, motorola already has that now with the M model that jjust came out. I’d rather have the Motorola M than the new iphone or whatever they’re going to call it!!
Apple is over rated and will always be. Just like Harleys, people buy them because of the name, not for the quality they bring.

    • http://twitter.com/jbardrof Jeremy Bardrof

Except that Harley actually makes a very good motorcycle.

    • Kc

So a big cheep plasic phone is quality. You people need to get over it. And by the way, S3′s have been cracking without people even dropping.Caused by overheating..Now that’s what you call quality..

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonathan-Williams/579249547 Jonathan Williams

What do you mean… ‘you people’? lol

        • Kc

I mean to all the droid nut huggers who buy a droid every 3 months but claim they are so great. If they were so great you wouldn’t have to keep buying new ones…

  • Trusstopher

The upside to an NFC enable and/or wirelessly charged iPhone is that the market should then be flooded with 3rd party accessories that will likely have cross-platform comparability and possibly bring the price down on said accessories. Could possibly be the tipping point to a widespread mobile payment system that we keep hearing about but just doesn’t seem to have taken hold.

  • napes22

The only completely new technology they’ll be releasing is the plug that goes into the new iPhone. IMO a very obnoxious move by Apple considering that anyone who has ever owned an iPod has a bunch of the old plugs lying around.

    • Go Hawkeyes

They are doing that on purpose. Now you have to buy all new accessories.

      • napes22

Of course, and it’s completely underhanded. It seems counter-intuitive to rewarding your long time customers.

        • Tom

Even worse is the fact that a tsunami of these accessories will simply end up in a landfill as most Apple dbags can’t be bothered with things like recycling. Way to go Apple.

      • Hunter

Or because the European union is forcing a standardization across all manufacturers…

I’m betting the new plug will be micro usb.

        Go Cyclones! 2-0

        • http://twitter.com/wynalazca Andrew Webber

It’s a small version of the current port they have. Micro USB has been the standard for a while in Europe and they are required by law to ship their phones with an adapter there. Apple will never launch a device without their proprietary connector. They make boatloads of money in licensing the design to accessory makers.

  • Stolen_Ideas_Analyst

    better displays and batteries? LOL.
    Apple doesn’t manufacture ANYTHING.
And the bars are already set VERY high by Android vendors. Don’t post Apple-blinded bias!

    • root4life

i agree with apple doesnt manufacture anything but at the same time there are a lot of new phone that still continue to come out with less than beautiful displays

  • ERIC REED

I really am excited to see what they bring. But I am a lover of mobile devices and that eventually I will own one like all new Verizon android devices.

  • http://twitter.com/ravik212 Victor

Competition is good for Android. If something great is revealed today, Android has even more reason to strive! Its healthy.

  • Captain_Doug

That is sad. The Nexus S was announced december of 2010. So far behind. At least hardware wise. With software… even father.

  • Superdroid

I am set on the Note 2, but open minded. Lets see if they can change my mind.

    • Hunter

Lol so you’re considering one phone and then another twice its size…

      • Superdroid

No…. my mind is made up on the Note 2, just keeping an open mind and giving Apple a chance to show it wares. I would never own an Apple product, I don’t even drink Apple juice.

        • Raven

I drink apple juice. I love the thought of squeezing apples until they leak all of their juices out and just remain a pile of smashed pulp.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=505617824 Yannick Mark Perryman

apples are semi-succulent and don’t really have pulp..

    • wheineman

If you are truely interested in a Note 2, then there is nothing that will be announced today that will excite you. Unless they announce a mini iPad?

  • SAMBO

I’m interested in seeing what they have to offer. But, I can’t help deny the feeling that it’s not going to be much.

    • gorkon

It’s going to be a nice update. The fanboys will go crazy. However it will be FAR from revolutionary. Increasing screen resolution and other little specs including the size is a speed bump. That’s it. Revolutionary? Hardly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=505617824 Yannick Mark Perryman

Nothing cool is going to happen. Maybe live wallpapers and widgets but yeah we’ve seen that.

    • http://twitter.com/jbardrof Jeremy Bardrof

I’m not sure we’d even really see much of that. We already know whats in iOS 6. I’m not sure they could have hidden live wallpapers, and so far we know widgets aren’t happening.

  • tomgillotti

    ugh… Go away apple

  • mike

“To use a car analogy, six years ago the iPhone was like a sexy new flagship model from BMW or Porsche. Today it’s a Toyota Camry. Safe, reliable, boring. The car your mom drives. The car that’s so popular that its maker doesn’t dare mess with the formula.”

    http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-19557497

    • SAMBO

That’s ironic you say that. I actually gave my mom my iPhone 4 and got an S3.

      • Kenneth Boyer

I have an S3 and 4S and the reception on the S3 is so awful its a joke. Most all of the Android apps that are also on iPhone are SO MUCH MORE FLUID and visually appealing on the iPhone. A 4G LTE iPhone with a 4″ display will actually be a perfect phone. Perfect.

        • G_Romero

You must have a weird *Phone. Mine was not exactly what you would call “more visually appealing”. Unless you think 3D apps running slow on a small screen is visually appealing. Then I see your point.

        • Go Hawkeyes

Maybe something was wrong with your S3. Mine has the best reception I’ve ever had out of a smartphone.

          • Hunter

I agree. So many people like to take their one bad experience and paint the whole landscape with it.

            Go Cyclones!

          • btod

Mine too. I get 16mbps download easy. And that’s in Iowa city near Kinnick Stadium no less ;-)

          • Speio

eh, I’ve owned a gnex and an S3. I would often compare signal to my sister’s droid4, and signal strength would always favour the latter. Samsung phones seem to have an issue with reception.

          • ragnarok180
          • Speio

…k my point was that several other phones, if placed side by side to my nexus have better signals whilst running on the same network.

        • cns2007

I might give you some credit regarding reception, but that’s a Samsung issue, not Android. The apps argument is old and no longer holds water. My GNex runs apps just as smooth as any 4S.

          • Manny

The term Buttery smooth is only a FACT when used to describe an ios device. Android as a whole has a long way to go to match apple in that aspect.

          • gorkon

            In a word: No.

        • Kc

          I agree with you bro…

        • SAMBO

You have a point, Samsung has a history of bad radios in their phones. Look at the G-Nex. HTC and Motorola on the other hand, they make phones with awesome signal.

        • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Put Android on that iPhone, and it would be near perfect. However, nothing running the dinosaur iOS can ever be labeled “perfect”.

      • Kc

That was a bad move..You’ll be buying another phone before she will

        • SAMBO

You’re right, but not for the reason you think.

          • Kc

It will be because your phone will be irrelevant in 3 month… Also s3′s have been cracking due to overheating.. So that may be the other reason…Just giving you the heads up..

          • http://twitter.com/jheyneman James Heyneman

If your S3 is overheating, you’re using it wrong.

@twitter-113723710:disqus play Major Mayhem for more than 5 mins… it gets really hot really quick

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=505617824 Yannick Mark Perryman

just because a newer model android comes out every three months in no way bears on relevancy. you’re saying the 4s was relevant all this time until today? right, with it’s tiny screen moderate battery life and lack of 4gLTE…ok.

          • Fattie McDoogles

But @disqus_fD3RUsJdxt:disqus so will the iPhone. Truth be told… by tech standards… The new iPhone is already irrelevant. Apple is a company that prides itself on making old hardware cool. All of their phones are using last years hardware. What makes Apple products special is the software. And we have already seen the iOS 6. Its nothing special either. Now I’m sure there will be a couple really cool features that they show off that weren’t in the beta but thats it. and like Tato… I am DYING for them to do something really different and impressive… but thats now who Apple is. Thats how how they got to be as big as they are.

          • Michael Thurig

Really?! Thank you for this public service announcement. I will return my S3 at my earliest convenience and I shall tell all of my friends to do the same with theirs!

        • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Well duh, he’s a nerd that reads Droid Life and always demands the latest and greatest. His mom is…..a mom. She’ll have that iPhone for the next 6 years because “Why do I need a new one, this one does everything I need.”

          • SAMBO

Hit the nail on the head!

      • Nicholassss

Thats funny you say that because i bought my mom toyota, but… she has a droid 3. haha

    • tomgillotti

You hit the nail on the head. I can’t stand the perception that Toyota is a superior car maker any more than apple is a superior mobile device maker.

      • Alan Paone

Well, Toyota has the most technically advanced, efficient and reliable cars…

        • tomgillotti

HAHA, most technically advanced? Efficient? Reliable? You probably DO own an I-device as well, don’t you? Such a sheep… Follow the heard… everyone else is doing it LOL….

          • Alan Paone

Wait, so Toyotas don’t last twice as long on the road, go 100km further on a tank and have VVTI engines?

          • tomgillotti

All generalizations. You want to drive tiny little Asian built cars based on what other people tell you is true, have at it. I’ll stick with my trusty American craftsmanship.

    • ERIC REED

Apple fan here..and I really want to argue that but just can’t!!

      • Bewara2009

Hi apple boy you lost? CS The last time I check this site its still called DroidLife baby not icraplife!

        • Southrncomfortjm

Seriously? You get an Apple fan agreeing with the above post and you make fun of him?

          • http://twitter.com/LavernFGarcia Lavern F. Garcia

    +1 Well said!

  • aldr01d

Epic fail for Apple for falling behind and sticking to their old designs which they still call revolutionizing… look at siri’s epic fail all I can say is take it all android.

  • http://twitter.com/thehammerofthor Jeff Helget

I honestly don’t expect anything that we haven’t seen before, but people will still call it “magical” and “revolutionary.” I think the most magical thing Apple could do that would REALLY make this thing sell better than crack-laced hotcakes is to price it at $99 on contract. They won’t, though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/dannyborst Danny Borst

Thats the exact reason I can’t wait for this device to come out. Maybe no innovate, but set the standard that almost all OEM’s want to pursure. Couldnt have said it better Tim.

  • Android Love !!!

    First comment… Yeah

    • Go Hawkeyes

Appear to be the first douche too, congrats.
