I just wrote this letter:

November 9, 2012

Lowell C. McAdam
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Verizon
140 West Street
NEW YORK, NY 10007

Sir:

I own a Verizon Thunderbolt cell phone.

I love the phone, but am not happy with Verizon.

Why?

Because Thunderbolt owners have been promised updates and
upgrades to the phone’s operating system for far too long, with promises made
and promises repeatedly broken. We are
still waiting!!

I find it interesting that upgrades to newer operating
systems are available for the phone, but require that the phone owner ‘hack’
the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879151

I have no intention of doing that, but my point is
this: If the hackers have upgrades, and post
them freely on the internet for free download, why can’t Verizon work with
those hackers to support that upgrade to their customers?

Every day, cell phone users are bombarded with offers of new
phones; with new systems; with new apps that are intended to make our current
phones obsolete.

It seems to me that the lack of official upgrades to my
phone while they are readily available on the internet, but not supported by
Verizon is nothing more than an effort to drive me to buy a newer phone……a
deliberate withholding of an upgrade leading current users to “retire” these
phones, thus driving the sale of new equipment.

Please tell me that is not the case, and that your past
promises of upgrades will finally be forthcoming.

Sincerely

my name, address

This is all Crap!! I have called Verizon and HTC yesterday about the ICS update for the HTC Thunderbolt and Verizon says they have nothing to do with updates. Verizon told me that it's all HTC and Google. I was transferred to HTC when I talked to the representative he told me they just now started on the ICS build for this device, and that Verizon would let us know when one came available. They were both on the line(conference call) I told the HTC representative what Verizon told me and he said that was false, than the Verizon person who was ease dropping on the convo with out me knowing said she did not say that. I quickly called her out and she proceeded to ask the HTC representative if ICS was coming to this phone.... he said no.. but not even a min ago he told me they just started on the build.... I wouldn't expect an update anytime soon. Root your phone and put what you want on it. There is already a stable ICS build out for this phone now anyway. I will never buy a HTC product again. Bottom line is that they should have told us (the customers) that they tried but did not make the deadline and did not want to release a buggy os update. But this is not the case.
