I had the LG Spectrum for less than a month. The microphone on mine was terrible. I don't know if it was a Spectrum thing or a lemon.
Sounds like you are an IPS LCD fan. I am too. Check out the One X display and the Atrix HD display. Both beautiful and both would beat the Spectrum.

I am just not a huge fan of SAMOLED displays (SGS3, G-Nex) although I will never knock them because truly it is a preference thing. Some people love them.

My wife has the Spectrum and it beats the hell out of my Galaxy Nexus. It's much brighter, clearer, and because the navigation keys are not part of the screen the Spectrum usable screen on apps is bigger. Her call and speaker volume is much louder and clearer than mine. In many ways the Spectrum is a great phone. It does have a serious shortcoming with no notification LED.

With certain models, yes you are correct. And good call with that article, I remember reading that way back when. The 'Droid' line would be a perfect example of what that talks about. They find an OEM, ask for certain things, etc. The exception to this rule was the Charge. That wasn't originally going to be a 'Droid' model, but at the time Verizon needed a 4G model with the Droid name since Moto was dragging its feet with the Bionic, so that's how that happened. Other models though, like the Galaxy SIII, however, just get picked up. That's more the norm than anything, at least with Verizon. So, there's a few factors involved. Also, you can still do individual data on Verizon. Those that have existing plans don't have to change them. If someone has say, a 900 minute plan with 1000 texts/ mo., they don't have to switch to the new plan when they upgrade if they don't want to. Same thing goes with family plans. They can stick with what they have, which is what people with all basic phones on their account are doing since the share everything plan makes no sense to them. So they are still giving existing customers options here, and aren't trying to intentionally screw them. No carrier, whether you like them or not, TRIES to dick people over. That's just bad business.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/15/how-an-atandt-smartphone-comes-to-life-behind-the-scenes-part-on/
That's how AT&T did the Atrix, and I'm assuming other phones, so I'll assume Verizon works close to the same way. Also I would assume VZW likes to screw their customers more than AT&T because AT&T atleast lets people choose between shared, and individual data.

You're confusing production of phones with updates. Yes, Verizon takes forever with updates, we know that. The OEMs go to the carriers, not the other way around. The OEMs propose their devices to the carrier, and they either approve them or not. VZW did not ask LG to make the Revolution. If they had, it would have had Droid branding on it, case in point. Motorola got device crazy because Verizon was the only carrier nutty enough to carry all of their phones. How many Motorola phones have the other 3 carriers seen in the last 2 years? Exactly. And, Verizon had zero to do with the X2 and D3 not getting ICS. In fact, that makes no sense. It's, once again, up to the OEM to take the updated Android OS and make it work with their phones. There were so few X2's and D3's sold that it didn't make sense for Moto to spend the time and money on future development of those devices. The RAZR will be a different case, since a ton have been sold, and Moto has greatly slowed down the number of different models it produces. All Verizon, or any other carrier for matter, does is provide cellular service, and provide the OTA updates when they are ready. Everything else is in the hands of the manufacturer. If the Lucid doesn't get past 2.3, that's on LG, not Verizon. Oh, and while the share everything plans don't work for everyone, they DO work for quite a few people, families especially. They're obviously on to something, or else AT&T wouldn't be following suit.
