That’s because JellyBean is an incremental update to ICS, whereas ICS was a huge change from Gingerbread/Honeycomb. Given the “in” Samsung seems to have with the US carriers recently, it would not surprise me to see the S3 update not long after it hits the international devices.

Yup don’t worry here VERIZON Galaxy S3 will be still waiting for jellybean in April 2013 mark it down. Meanwhile home at the range TMOBILE will be the first carrier to push the jellybean update to it’s Galaxy S3 you can bank on that.

I was on the phone with a Verizon “Data Specialist” the other day and he mentioned Verizon is working on an “enormous” OTA update that they are planning to release in Sept. JB?

As Alec said they will push the update to your phone. It’s a very popular phone so hopefully you’ll even get the update after 4.1. You should only really root to get rid of bloatware, it does make a big difference, to get features provided by a custom rom, or because the phone is update abandoned. Think of how many sites bring up that the phones aren’t getting updates. Rooting can allow you to get an update the carrier may never give you. Hopefully the 4.1 PDK’s will make that a problem of the past.

Verizon would never require someone to root their phone. Updates being pushed by Verizon or any carrier will always be sent directly to your phone and would be as simple as pressing a button to install.

i know this may sound dumb but ive never had a smartphone before…. if i buy a gs3 next weekend with ICS on it then the jelly bean update comes from verizon in a few months… will i be able to download that to my phone without rooting or no?? please answer!!! thx
