Jelly Bean isn’t going to be a tablet-specific OS. It is likely that all future versions of Android will be optimized to work on both tablets and phones.

I love how many announcements there are on upcoming Tegra 3 tablets but how many are there actually for sale? 1. I’m starting to think most of these announcements are just there to boost he Nvidia share price.

Last year they released 3.2 at I/O, and Gingerbread was released in Q4 2010, as was ICS. By logical deduction, Jelly Bean will be Q4 2012 and 4.1 will be released at I/O.

Once a year Google releases a new Android OS at Google I/O. Doesn’t mean that the OS will be ready for people to download, but it is ready to be ported and modified by MFGs. Then after 3 months, you will start seeing it on devices.

All cool as Jelly Bean could be, I don’t think releasing it before the end of the year would be a smart decision.

I don’t think so. The way things are going, a major OS update will be released every year around October/November/December, and a minor, but still good, update to the current version gets released at I/O.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s both. Honeycomb is the only version of Android that didn’t get a new name with a minor version number bump (3.0 and 3.1 are Honeycomb). Cupcake and Donut were both 1.x, and Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread were all 2.x. I think Honeycomb was the exception because of its incomplete state, and Jelly Bean *is* 4.1.

Jelly Bean at launch is doubtful if the tablet launches at I/O. They will probably will just make it clear that it is going to be upgraded to Jelly Bean. I’m sure they will be announcing Jelly Bean at I/O (as they did with ICS last year) but certainly not releasing it.
