I use “Backup to GMail” for this. It doesn’t (yet) support MMS backups, but I don’t care too much about that. Since I’ve used it, it’s been very easy to port my SMS messages (and call log, by the way) from my old phone to my new phone (and across ROM installs, by the way). And I can review my messages and call logs via Gmail on my non-mobile devices. Very helpful.

I use another program called VeryAndroid SMS Backup for my Samsung Galaxy S2. It can transfer messages to my computer with ease via usb connection. Works great.

i personally just use titanium backup on my msg prefs and all my mms sms go from build to build with me. no loss of data and i kick backups onto dropbox and box and i dont worry one bit about lost msgs. Gnex 4.03 codename android1.55

there are quite a few apps (on android at least) that do this. one actually emails you them as a backup where as others backup to a file on your phone. cool idea I guess but not for me.

Signed up on the site, but when I downloaded/installed the app on my Galaxy Nexus, all it does is give me a network error when launching it each time. For shame!

Thanks for the coverage here and yes we think its perfect as well, no bias of course! Also remember that you can perform a full backup by hitting the “menu” button on your droid and then selecting “back-up”. Set the timer and go right back to texting.

SMS Backup+ already does that free with no account creation necessary. Backs up texts to Gmail and phone calls to Google Calendar
