DROID RAZR Maxx is Real, Pops Up in Verizon System

Remember those pictures with EXIF data found on Picasa that led us to believe there was another version of the DROID RAZR on the way called the RAZR MAXX? It looks now like it may not be that far away. While the date above is not a release date, this does show the world that the phone has made its way into Verizon systems and should be in the hands of testers at some point soon.

Rumors of specs for the device are completely unknown, but with HD variants of the RAZR already making their way to China, you can imagine that this could be one of those upgraded versions for the U.S. The term “MAX” tends to give off some sort of an upgraded vibe, so a 4.5″ 720p HD display and better on-board audio would fit the bill.

Ready for Moto’s next device? Or should I say, their next after their next? After all, the DROID 4 should be here by December 22.

Cheers ___!

I’ve heard it may be a thicker version of the original with a bigger battery.  Who knows.

  • Anonymous

oh god say it aint so…just got my droid razr yest!!

    • Corey Foltman

you have until january 15th to return it(on bottom of receipt). just hope it comes out by then…

  • Kzjhd

Looks REAL. Which 15-year old had the time in Comp Sci 101 to post this one?

  • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Maybe HD means “Horrible Display”. It is a Motorola after all.

    • Alexander Garcia

Gawd d@mnit! You again!? Go home and play with your Nexus!

  • Grow up people

Waaa, crybaby waaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop giving me choices! Steve Jobs won’t tell me what to think anymore. WAAAHHH!!!!  Idiots. EVERY single piece of high tech electronics is obsolete the moment it hits the shelves. Here’s what you should do:  don’t buy ANYTHING electronic until they give up on this new fangled electric lights in every room fad. Then you’ll never have to worry about it again. Pony express all the way, baby!

  • Kris

Motorola: We believe in hardware fragmentation to match the software fragmentation of Android. We release a product after we’ve thought of 2 products to follow in quick succession.

  • Help, I’m falling….

All I can say is, WTF!  This is getting ridicoulse (sp) with the same manufacturer bring new units out, one on top of another.  I passed on the Bionic, once word came out on the RAZR, but now having the RAZR, seeing another one is causing headaches.  Yet, we will keep buying this stuff.  My next phone, if I can call it that, is going to be American made!

  • http://twitter.com/FierceDeityLink Robby

Xyboard, RAZR Maxx… the Droid Xtrm is only a matter of time.

  • geno villafano

Good lord they just won’t slow down.

  • Anonymous

Though I personally am not a huge fan of Moto devices (and am loving my brand new GNex), I think it’s a little strange that there are so many people down on this news. I can certainly understand a bit of frustration if you just bought a device and then a slightly upgraded one is announced right afterward, but Moto coming out with lots of new phones just serves to give us all more choices. More choices lead to a higher chance of the consumer finding the exact phone they want. More choices also lead to lower prices and more innovation from other manufacturers. I see this is a good thing.

    • Leon

Most of the people trolling on this news have or will have the Nexus. That’s the kind of comments we’ll see on all non-Nexus articles.

      • Jason

That’s unfortunately true based on the comments I’ve read in non-Nexus articles.

        • Pfigurella

Concur Jason, the blog may be droid-life but the comments will be run roughshod by Samsung Galaxy Nexus “fanpersons” to be non-gender specific (as on-line it is hard to tell) for the foreseeable future.  I just hope that nothing ever significant goes wrong with that Gnex or chaos will reign here.

          • Aidan

I’m waiting on the Droid 4 myself but I also hope nothing horribly wrong happens to the GNex. You’re probably right that if that happens all the people annoyed by GNex users trolling every other phone will start trolling back resulting in a never ending pissing contest. It’s already bad enough now.

          • Granted

Yeah and if you step back and look at it,you’ll see that chaos can only reign if the person running the site let’s it. And this has habitually been the damn case with Tissue actually promoting and joining in on this prepubescent ranting that is so rampant here.

      • http://www.facebook.com/billyNOTnice Billy Gladfelter

no i don’t think. I think moto needs to give their customers a chance to settle on the phone they just bought. not release the same exact phone but better immediately.

        • Jakeshram

why does it matter when they release phones? just dont buy it if you dont want it? I dont get why people complain about that?

    • Todd

I think its funny that apple made similar upgrades to hardware as moto is doing with the razor but it took them a year and half to do it.

  • http://twitter.com/AranelAlasse Aranel Alasse

I currently have an OG Droid.  I tried out the Rezound for a few days,
and liked it, but returned it when I heard the Droid 4 was coming soon.
I missed having a keyboard too much.

Any idea if the vibrate will be as loud as on the OG Droid?  I LOVE the loud vibrate.  I’m worried I’ll start missing calls if the vibrate is quieter.  especially when it’s in my pocket and I’m walking around.

Also, I love the loud speakerphone of my OG Droid (for music).  Any idea if the speakerphone will be decently loud on the Droid 4?

    I wish the Droid 4 would have a 720p screen…  I liked the Rezound’s screen.

    • http://twitter.com/AranelAlasse Aranel Alasse

I’m also hoping for a little more confirmation on the release date…  Anyone have more info about that?

    • Ravnos CC

Everything I can find on the webbernets points to a qHD pentile (samoled advanced) BUT moto could surprise us?   Ideal world the Gnex would have the Rezound’s screen, even if it did add a bit of thickness…

    • Anonymous

I Hope the vibration is loud too..I have a Droid X, waiting for the Droid 4 (Full price sadly). I hate that I not only cannot hear the vibration, but most of the time I cannot even feel it in my pocket unless I am sitting, even with 3rd party vibration apps. Ha I actually get jealous of the old calculator phones family members have in the house that I can hear vibrating upstairs..Hopefully the speaker will be loud as well, I like playing music out my Droid X but the speaker is underneath and i like my screen up for skipping. Also yes an upgraded screen should of been a given..but I forget how decent my text still looks on my Droid X, I like how sharper things were on my uncle’s X2 soo, it’s still a nice upgrade for me. I text standing out in the sun a lot soo..I hear not having Amoled will not be too bad. Yeh 720p would have been sweet for graphics..but I really don’t watch movies on my phones anymore. Most importantly is that it has a slider keyboard..always had full touch screen phones..drives me nuts long texting. So hearing that this one is an upgrade to the supposedly legendary D3 Kb is nice to know. Hopefully the site will get some more official intel now that they’re not stalking the Nexus. Heh..then we just have to wait for some ICS roms until Moto locks it up and sends it out. Nice that the Razr is already in progress since it’s essentially the same.

      • http://twitter.com/AranelAlasse Aranel Alasse

Yeah, mostly I’m looking forward to a high-end phone with 4G and a keyboard.  The stratosphere doesn’t seem future-proof enough for me.  And I’ve been happy with my OG Droid, so I’m hopeful (maybe naively — I’m not that up on information about moto droid phones, these days) that the Droid 4 will keep me equally content for the next 2-year contract.

For me, it comes down to Droid 4, Rezound, or GNex…  I’ll try out the Droid 4, when it comes out, and see if the pros (real keyboard) outweigh any cons I notice…  And if I notice any cons, I’m willing to guess that they will include a quieter vibrate and a quieter speakerphone — in which case, I doubt the other high-end phones will be any louder/better in those two respects.  So I’m basically still basing my decision on the fact that I want a keyboard.

        • Anonymous

Likewise, a Keyboard is a must. Was going to buy a cheap Droid 3 a couple months ago, until I heard of this. 4G just became a nice factor since they added my area yesterday (super bonus, as i would be paying 4G phone price without access). But Any upgrade though will be a big improvement in the Ram, Processor, and screen for me though, ahh most importantly a FRONT facing camera =D

  • Anonymous

again, motorola screws over there customers by releasing a better phone so shortly after releasing the Razr.

    • Keith Sumner

and such is the endless cycle of the world of consumer electronics, get used to it.

  • Anonymous

I agree i loved my original Droid also, didnt want to see it go. Heck i still use it at hime sometimes when i need the keyboard for quickoffice. The phone lasted me two years with no issue will except the 256mb of ram. So i have no dought that my new phone (Nexus) eill last 2 years with no issues. Im staying away from blur and sense since a lot of complaints head towards devices with those installed.

  • Dominick DeVito

motorola is taking advantage of the people who buy a new phone just because it has 1 or 2 little things better, why not…..its better then waiting 2 years for an iphone that has a better camera

  • Stating El Obvious

Droid RAZR owners will now be demanding free RAZR MAXX’s like Bionic owners demanded RAZRs lol.

  • Anonymous

At this rate in the next 2 weeks we’ll learn about the incoming Droid 5 with a 4.5 HD screen, global + LTE… or maybe a Droid X3… or a Bionic 2… or maybe all of them… WTF Moto?? I undestand a yearly upgrade is not cool for everyone, but a 3 month cycle is killing us, seriously.
BTW here in Mexico I’m quite happy with my Droid 3, won’t be buying a smartphone in a long while and I think the same can be said for almost anyone that already has a dual-core handset, not even apple fanboys can keep this insane rate.

  • Anonymous

How is Moto making money like this, or at least Verizon. I saw one person returning the RAZR yesterday. To many phones in so little time.

  • http://Twitter.com/ContestsAccount bigrob60

For once I don’t have buyers remorse after purchasing a phone. My G-Nex blows my OG Droid(which I love) out of the water. Sucks that so many people are having some problems with theirs. 3G is better, 4G is strong & my WiFi connection is stronger at home now.

    • Anonymous

People are having problems with the “G-Nex”?

      • http://Twitter.com/ContestsAccount bigrob60

I’m going to assume that this isn’t sarcasm b/c you’re missing the “/s”. There have quite a few people who have said in comments that they have been having a few problems.

  • EC8CH

Wonder if it will launch with ICS?

    • http://twitter.com/AranelAlasse Aranel Alasse

i definitely hope so…  but i have my doubts.

    • Alexander Garcia

It won’t. Based on my reliable sources, it will ship with capacitive buttons and GB 2.3.6. It’s basically gonna be a RAZR with a bigger battery which will make it a slightly thicker RAZR.

    • Anonymous

I am pretty sure that it will. I hope this is the phone they posted the last time the 1 that was for sale in china. With a large camera large screen and the oldies digital sound.

    • Anonymous

That was supposed to be dolby digital sound. Nice 1 google voice.

  • Anonymous

Huge Motorola fan but this is getting ridiculous.. For them to improve upon one aspect of a phone and release a new version each month is Bullsh!t..

    • Alexander Garcia

To be honest, I’m actually quite impressed with the sheer speed in which Motorizon are releasing all these high end devices. I mean c’mon, it took Apple 15 whole months to release an incremental upgrade to the iPhone 4.

      • Help, I’m falling….

Thats not the point!  How can anyone in their right mind, but on the market (Bionic) a phone at the same price, knowing that a new unit is already in boxes ready to promote?  I love my RAZR, but announcing a newer RAZR 35 days later……The smartphone market has us by the xxxx’s!

        • Alexander Garcia

If that’s the reality you see, then you have other serious issues to worry about.

      • Emilio Figueroa

But at least with Apple you get a one-to-one company-to-phone ratio. They focus on the current and previous device only. This is like the Nexus. However, with Motorola, you get the first version, a generally good phone missing a few important  features. Then the same base phone with a tiny upgrade. Then another, with yet another tiny upgrade, leaving the customer who fell for the first version released just a month before with a phone that is sub par to what Motorola could have made in the first place if they just took a little bit more time.

    • rob

Just got my razr yesterday…as my og droid was trying to give up the ghost after 2 years…it would ring…and I would answer the call ..but it wouldn’t stop ringing!! I will miss cmod and other rooted stuff for a while..maybe…but. I love this razr! I played with it and the gnex in store. I had already ordered the razr..but just wanted to make sure. No regrets, I wont be swapping out. This phone is light! The screen is great. Camera is great. Call quality….and everything fast. Browsing, video everything. My biggest regret is I dont think this site is going to be much use to me anymore. I have been coming here since I first rooted my og droid 2 years ago…but all the coverage here is gnex now.

  • Droidlifeisgone

What about the Galaxy Nexus????? I thought this was a web site dedicated to the GN. Why is this story in here?

    • Anonymous

A lot of attention goes to the Nexus as it should.  It is the first real heir to the OG Droid. Back when the OG was out that was all the rage.

Of course they will toss in stuff about the other new phones coming out as they should. But you won’t be able to do stuff with any of those phones as you will with the G-Nex.

There are plenty of phones out there for whatever you like.  I guess you are not a G-Nex fan… and that’s fine.

      • Granted

Being a fan or not has nothing to do with oversaturation.

Folks, it’s still just a RAZR. As it shows you there, it’s still Model XT912. Internal specs are the same. Last I heard it was some kind of bigger battery.

    • EC8CH

      that’s a bummer…

what the RAZR really needs is a screen upgrade.

  • http://profiles.google.com/xj333t Joel McCauley

next will be the Galaxy Nexus Plus – in white – with 64 GB of storage and  the processor clocked to 1.8 GHz – and a better 8 MP camera – and a larger standard battery (maybe 2,350 mAh) – and a kevlar reinforced back cover – and a more efficient 4G radio – and Android 4.2 – sigh…

    • Anonymous

and will get 35 minutes of battery life.

      • Daniel Archibald33

And will get a new update every 2 years

I bet it is sweet. My RAZR is sweet, so a RAZR max will be even better. I think I will wait for the black/white RAZR PANDA MAX, though.

    • EC8CH

      It’s the RAZR XEBRA

moto loves X’s pronounced as Z’s

      • Michael Forte

I’m addicted to these reports! Why am I looking here when I have the awesome Rezound in my pocket? Maybe I’ll trade it for the Nexus. Nah.

    • U_Rezound_2_bro

I agree, the Rezound is awesome- we already have the hd screen, 1.5 dual core, super fast LTE and an awesome pair of ear phones.
Once ICS is launched on this beast, it is game over for the Nexus.

      • Ravnos CC

ICS can’t get on other phones soon enough, and how about a permanent root for the Rezound? … :D

    • Tim242

Can the color of the buttons be changed from red?

  • Michael Forte

Is there a white version shortly after too? And what’s after that the Droid 5 and Droid RAZR MAXX OMGWTFBBQ? Seriously, phone releases are getting ridiculous. I want manufacturers to slow down and create great phones, not just okay or good phones that are replaced a couple months later.

I’m waiting on the Droid 4 myself. I need the global GSM and physical keyboard.

    • Ravnos CC

Wouldn’t it be amazing if the D4 had an HD screen…

      • Niklas

That would be nice but not having global GSM, a keyboard and LTE are the only deal breakers for me.

        • Markus

I’m waiting on the D4 also. It’s unfortunate that Motorola has a monopoly on the global slider phones.

      • Anonymous

No worries the D4 Maxx will… Should be out a month or so after the D4

      • Guest111

When I get the Droid 4 this month, the Droid 4 HD edition will be out in January.  :(

    • TJedry

I’m also waiting for the D4. For business travelers using Verizon, there aren’t many other options other than the Droid slider series.

      • Jurgen

I agree. I attend conferences in Europe often and it’s very useful to use the same phone abroad. The screen real estate a slider provides proves to be invaluable when replying to long emails and quick editing of documents and slides.

  • Nate Baily

These new phone releases are just getting ridiculous. This must be a nightmare for the supply chain. How can you accurately forcast a phone when a replacement is is already in the works for a release 2-4 months down the road?

  • Alexander Garcia

Hmm… Okay Motorizon, I must admit that you have my attention once again.

The RAZR Maxx has the EXACT same model number as the RAZR before it… That implies that it’s a new software SKU. Possibly a variant with the GSM+WCDMA radio enabled? The RAZR is worldphone capable, but the firmware has it completely disabled and inaccessible.

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I think the Rezound (and most HTC phones) are ugly.

        • Anonymous

The screen on the RAZR was far superior to the Rezound, in my opinion. The Rezound will probably end up being more hacker friendly, though; but for that why not just get a GNex?

          • Anonymous

The droid razr display is awesome. I feel it beats all of them, now that i looked at the rezound’s display better.

        • Anonymous

Idle thought – couldn’t this be the door that one of the smaller (relative to Verizon) manufacturers could go through to go big time?  I’m thinking ZTE, Huawei – if they could release a good quality, good spec, high end phone with an unlocked bootloader* on Verizon, they could start to make a name for themselves as a major player…

*(obligatory acknowledgment that it’s not the manufacturer locking the bootloader, it’s the carrier)

          • http://pharaohtechblog.blogspot.com/ Conan Kudo (ニール・ゴンパ)

If Huawei or ZTE released a CDMA2000 phone that was compatible with Verizon bands that accepted SIM cards with the CSIM program on it, they could conceivably release it outside of VZW’s control.
