Android 4.0.2 Rolling Out to Verizon Galaxy Nexus Units

Last week, we found out that the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon would be receiving an update within hours of activation. That update, will apparently be Android 4.0.2 according to the demo unit we have pictured above. A number of sources reached out this morning to let us know that their devices were receiving a bump, and here is your proof. Build number is ICL53F and is newer than the 4.0.1 (ITL41F) that the GSM version has. There may not be a ton of cosmetic changes over 4.0 or 4.0.1, but according to our source, the radio/baseband has changed from EK01 to EK05 which usually means better network connectivity and call quality. Here is a look at the 4.0.1 About screen.

Cheers Jason Kline in Indianapolis!

Everything I can see here on my end (i dont want to give too many details!) suggests that the phone should be released tomorrow. Unfortunately, like everyone else, I’m still awaiting official confirmation.

  • out of curiousity do you think Google will start increasing by whole increments for each NEW OS like Apple? 2.0, 3.0, 4.0

    • Keith Sumner

  • Erkleehoo

I just posted that I left Verizon and all was good. CANCEL THAT. JUST GOT CALL FROM REP, JUST NOW GOT EMAIL THAT ITS ON HOLD!!!!! 4:50 …. NO NEXUS TOMORROW! from top of the world to nothing in 10 minutes. Thanks Verizon,, YOU REALLY SCREWING THIS UP

  • AW

My V is store is still acting dumb and wont even give me a date. Been a customer for 10+ years. About ready to switch carriers.

    • tjmonkey15

No disrespect, but you need to chill out if you are going to switch carriers over this.  It will release sooner or later!

  • xD

    Bugs = Google Wallet

  • Jamaicawind

Ok so now its starting to look like last week…so much evidence that basically garuntees it will be out in the morning now its just time to pray that it will finally come out….i think all of us tonight should pray to the android jesus that this thing is released tomorrow

  • Anonymous

can’t wait to deal with server jams and activation errors…

  • Anonymous

My OG droid is on life support. This phone needs to be out now or else I might just have to go with the Rezound.

    • Anonymous

NOOOOO Don’t do it! Or use the awesome return policy lol

      • Anonymous

Actually I was thinking of ordering through Amazon Wireless this time.

    • Anonymous

Same here! I will hate to see this little guy go but I have to throw it around everytime I try and do anything just to get it working again. I really want the Gnex but if it is not tomorrow I may be stuck with a white Razr….F THAT!

  • Anonymous

every store I’ve called is claiming not to know anything or have anything…grrrrr

going to verizon later to order my moms *phone 4s (that what all her friends have, she wants it too)

gonna butter them up with niceness than BAM! “do you have any Galaxy Nexus in stock?”

  • Kardell

Verizon are pissing off all that were highly anticipating this phone such as myself,I think we all should NOT purchase it inspite of them NOT releasing it because honestly by now Im sure something even better is on the way in 2012 and this phone is already obsoleted. So no thank you Big Red, since you dont want to release this phone, why dont you just go ahead and keep it forever, we well go ahead and wait on the next big thing. OG Droid hang on we will get there sooner or later.

    • Tim242

This phone is far from obsolete. It will get updared first. There will always be something better just around the corner. At some point, you have to get something, and be happy with it. No better time, than Nexus time!

    • TheCleaner

yeah that’s what we all should do…

  • impact

I just called my local VZW and the girl said she thought it was getting releaseed tomorrow so I asked her if she was sure.  So, she went and asked the manager and came back and said it had been delayed again 🙁 .  I hope they are wrong and it will be released tomorrow but I have a feeling it is going to get pushed back again!

    • impact

Just called another store an hour away and the guy said it was supposed to launch tomorrow but they just got word like 5-10 minutes ago that it has been pushed back.  He was positive about this.  So it looks like everyone needs to be prepared to wait longer.  I don’t think some VZW would release tomorrow and not others so those of you that have called stores that said they will sale the Nexus tomorrow talked to people that haven’t received the latest information from corporate…

  • Mosskingpin

I hope this means tonite’s Nexus Eve.

  • Erkleehoo

II just came out of Verizon, got to play with one, had the update, was told as of right now everything is good for tomorrow. Expecting a small line in the morning, told me to get there early. I will be there! Right here in Tennessee

    • impact

Which TN store?  I am in Nashville and was told that it has now been delayed again :/

  • Anonymous

FWIF… just called two Radio Shacks in Manhattan… first played dumb, referred to the end of the year.  Second confirmed they’re in stock but not released to sell yet-  however, did say to check tomorrow or Friday.

    /slight hope

  • OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG (waving both hands)

  • Michael Allis

HOPEFULLY this means we’re looking at moving forward on the release…

If not, I’m going to smash my OG droid into a million little pieces out of pure, unadulterated rage.

  • And then Verizon releases the phone tomorrow.

  • Buying mine through a friend that works at Verizon and he said “definitely” available tomorrow and even checked with his bosses to confirm.

  • Just called the 86th St store in Manhattan and was told that they will be selling it tomorrow! W00T!

    • xyzlene

JUST spoke to Sophia at the store on 86th street. she said as of now the gnex will be released tmrw…. DOUBLE WOOT… thanks Connor

    • Anonymous

The new 69th & 3rd stonewalled me yesterday…. trying again now – will update with result:

  • Just called my local VZW store (College Park, MD) and asked if they’d be releasing the GNex tomorrow. The rep claimed no release date has been set.

    • Vinnie

Same from my brother who works at VZW… he was happy to tell me about the Droid RAZR in white though….

      • Anonymous

Did you reply “Thanks Dick!!  🙂

  • ERivera_Goat

Sweet nectar.  I called a local Verizon store (Tampa, FL) and they said that the GN will be on sale tomorrow, but they won’t know the price until then.  Lady said either $199 or $299.

  • fartbubbler

chilhood and lifelong friend that is the manager at a radio shack just confirmed to me that they will have the Nexus tomorrow.  299 on contract, 799 off contract.  belive me or not, I don’t care.

    • Anonymous

Verizon had the price listed as 650 off contract when I went in and played with the demo unit…. I’d make sure if going that route to buy from them…

    • Anonymous

My childhood and longtime friend that’s a verizon associate is giving me contract price minus a small chunk. I sure hope yours hooks you up… The world of knowing the right people lol

  • so, let’s assume this is released tomorrow: do orders go live online at midnight?  i know no one knows for sure, but i’ve never been looking for a phone on launch day and i’m not sure of how it works regarding the online store.

  • Alex

What am i supposed to do with this?

  • You all realize that Verizon needs a day to announce release, or “send a press release to announce availability” (qtd in Kellex DL). That day will hopefully be tomorrow, meaning release will be Friday. Just my 3 cents.

    • fartbubbler

they don’t “need” any lead time.  They abruptly started selling the Droid3 without any notice.

    • Anonymous

Not necessarily.  They could put out a press release saying “available now”…it’s not written in stone what content press releases can contain.

    • Tim242

The Rezound’s release wasn’t announced, until the second they released it. They also did that with the Droid 3. It is not uncommon.

  • I feel like I’m paying $299 to be abused.

    • It doesn’t matter whether you pay the $299 or not. You’ve already been abused.

  • UNICORN!!!!!!!!

  •  supposedly that wont be pushed until; launch day

    • Keith Sumner

Yes obviously, because a phone sitting in a box in the back of a store can’t magically receive it.

  • It’s amazing really, 2 updates for the phone, before there even is a phone released. Amazing. Still can’t wait, I have 2 that will be on hold for me…whenever they are available.

  • Anonymous

this combined with extended 4g release combined with vzw pushing other products (milky razr, zzzzboard)….. 🙂

    • Anonymous

  • If you are board go on Verizon’s FB page and read the comments to any post on there. They are awesome. Its like #OccupyVerizon over there. Everyone is posting comments on the GN and spamming the crap out of all their posts. Keep up the good work lol

    • Shelnbay

I spent about 20 minutes last night liking every G-Nex reference I could find on the Verizon Wireless page and cracked up through the whole thing.  People are just rabid.

      • Yea I think if it doesn’t come out tomorrow people will start riots at their stores lol

  • Anonymous

I see what you did there.. I’m not getting excited again yet…

OK, yes I am… I hate your face… Abuse me more please

  • good sign.  fingers crossed.

  • omg yay! wait..

  • Rquellet

  • aka…the removal of google wallet.

    • Jared Kirk

So tired of the google wallet bs… who cares that it’s not on there!  arg 😛

      • Omar Ibrahim

i dn’t need google wallet aslong as i have android beam.

  • Anonymous

Perhaps what we all have been waiting for.. along with the phone of course..

  • Hopefully this means its ready to go…

                                  …but probably not.

  • Whatever happened to 4.1.0 being reported a couple weeks back? Was that fake?

    • That went to a dev unit, probably still just testing that.

      • Mikehen08

Thanks Kellex, I had the same question.

    • Keith Sumner

Yes, 4.1 is “fake” and will never come out, ever. *rolls eyes*

      • Got a problem? I asked a question, didn’t claim a damn thing. Don’t be a dick.

    • Anonymous

There was even a release of 4.0.3 as well. Who know’s what each build dresses at this point, I’d be happy to get the damn phone

      • Cool – I missed that one.

  • Anonymous

I’m set to get one at Verizon tomorrow.

  • Anonymous

The time is now! Warriors come out and playay!!!!!

  • Mikehen08

I thought some people had 4.1 on their Nexus? Not 4.0.1 or 4.0.2. Was that only for the GSM version?

  • I went to my Verizon Kiosk and saw a Bionic with 4.0 on it. The rep swore it just appeared there one day. <,<

  • It means that there are only 4.0.2 months left until VZ officially announces a release date.  Weeeeeeee!

  • Anonymous

Thats a nice looking phone…where can I buy one?

    • Anonymous

I was wondering the same thing. Wonder why we haven’t heard about it.

      • Anonymous

How many G’s does it have?

        • Anonymous

I heard it runs on Verizon’z new 14532G network…with up to 634093294671549MP down and .2 MP up

          • Jason Purp

Coming to 2 cities in 2012!

          • Anonymous

I’ll wait for 14533G.You know that they’re going to hype this for a year or so and then replace it with something new.

        • It has the 3g’s and the wifi’s

          • Anonymous

If it doesnt have motoBlur or Touchwiz then why should I buy it?

          • Carlos

Because it doesn’t have sense 😉

          • Robert Beier

Because with ICS you no longer need those.

          • Anonymous

But what about the premium experiences that only an OEM customization can offer?

(since you didnt seem to get it before I’ll be explicit now and say I’m kidding)

          • Fus Roh Dah

I agree. I love the OEM apps sprint provides. Especially that handy quickoffice app that works for a whopping 7 days before giving you notifications to buy it!

          • Anonymous

It is a person preference turd.

          • Matthew Rosidivito

My personal preference turd is the kind that sinks, this way it doesn’t float above the water and stink everything up.

What is your personal preference turd?

          • Anonymous

not 100 % right on their mind lol. The geeks are like missing some tools on their head 🙂

        • it has the wifis

    • Jason Purp

Do you know how to lucid dream?

      • Anonymous

I specialize in a very specific type of security.

  • Someone check if Google Wallet is enabled.

  • Andrew Elliott

i hope this means release tomorrow

  • Anonymous

Is this the software update that fixes whatever problems were delaying it? Does that mean this can launch tomorrow?

(Admit it. All of you were thinking it.)

    • Anonymous

Yes I am thinking it and with good reason lol 🙂

    • James Friedman

      Yes, problems fixed RELEASE IT!

      • Pasta

Don’t worry.  They’ll have to stress test the Verizon network to handle the Nexus update process….

        • Anonymous

According to Verizon they plan to sell about 6 of them so there shouldn’t be any problem with the network handling it.

    • Christopher Heuer

Thinking this is likely. Hoping it’s true and it’ll actually release tomorrow now.

    • Anonymous

It has mad bugs android 4.0.

  • Just called my nearest VZW store – the girl I spoke with guaranteed me that I could buy mine tomorrow. I will be there the minute they open.

    So excited.

    • Tim242

Me too! Ice Cream Sandwiches for Breakfast!

  • Anonymous

hopefully this is the update that needed to happen before the phone would get released

    • Anonymous

isn’t that what we all thought when 4.0.1 was release?
