Fire Up the Galaxy Nexus Release Date Rumor Engine Again – Add December 13 to the List

Is anyone else shaking their head while reading this? I sure am while writing it. With the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon getting the bump from December 9 to who-knows-when, it is anyone’s guess when we will see it. This whole situation has become one giant mess – if that word even does it justice. We were told that it would be out “before the end of the year” a number of times, but if it isn’t obvious to you that this phone should have been out a couple of times by now and that December 9 was the latest rock solid date, then I can’t help you. We don’t need an “official” announcement from Verizon to understand this. :P

Verizon informed their entire nationwide staff including indirect stores that 12/9 was the all channel launch date. They don’t make this information available to just anyone unless it is 99.9% set in stone. The phone is in stock at all stores ready to be sold, yet no one is allowed to. The reason for this delay is not known. In fact, most VZW friends of ours are as confused and shocked as all you.

So what now? Well, we look to next week unless something crazy happens over the next 48 hours and we end up seeing on Friday after all. Could that happen? Of course, anything could. Until we see another update on that front though, we will open our ears and eyes to all options. And the newest that we have seen from indirect retailers is December 13 (next Tuesday). We aren’t exactly sure why they would go with Tuesday – other than the fact that we are supposed to see the XYBOARD on Monday – but will accept it into the list of rumored dates.

Cheers ___!

No matter what the date is, it will be soon. I have a friend that works for Verizon and last week employees got the option of the nexus for their employee lines. Yesterday, his store received a demo unit as well, though he said they still don’t have any stock as of last night to the best of his knowledge.

    • Anonymous

My friend also did not know a release date as of last night. However, this morning he texted me “Nexus delayed. Not coming tomorrow”. I asked about 4G outage and he said no reason was given for the delay, but then reported back that indeed, 60% of 4G phones lost signal yesterday.

Reports seem to say the 4G issue has been resolved now though, so lets hope for the best!

This happens with every phone. Release dates get leaked, forums post them from “trusted sources”, the hype builds. The dates get pushed back. Everyone moans. I just get the feeling shenanigans are afoot. It will be available when its available. Evidently Christmas is close and the capitalists are whipping up the crowds into a fervor. Good lord guys. Eventually there will be a release date and of course supplies will be “limited”. Its the SAME game every dang time. If a company simply waited until ALL the kinks were ironed out, massed produced enough for everyone, and released them in ample quality, there would be no demand. Can’t you see they release info, get us worked up, release a little far before they are ready, let a portion of us walk around showing them off and then drive demand through the roof. Then suddenly they up production and release more little  by little. MY ASS! There are a mountain of Nexus Galaxies sitting on palates waiting to be sold RIGHT NOW. They will be shipped when Samsung is good and ready to make its best profit. In a couple months the game will start ALL over again with the next best thing.

The Apple iPhone 4S won this round …. back in early October, I really thought Android and the Galaxy Nexus were up to the fight … they started nice with the launch video and everything has been basically downhill from there …. consistent delays ….. less than expected hardware features and build quality …. it will be nice to finally get the Galaxy Nexus when it arrives …. but I guess I will be waiting until around summer time for Android to get another chance to square-up versus Apple when that company releases the iPhone 5 …..

Maybe then, we will see a phone that combines Motorola Razr build quality with leading edge hardware features and the next version OS that takes down the iPhone 5 ….

This has been the longest year for me in the hunt for a new phone. Around January I began salivating over  the Bionic. Then it turned into a no show. April, June, July dates passed with no news, pics or official information. When the rumored 8/4 release vaporized I decided I was no longer interested in what was by then an obsolete phone. I thought V would get the Galaxy S2 which is undeniably a better phone than the Nexus minus the 4.0 OS. They passed on it. Now everyone else in the world is getting a crack at the phone and all we are left with is silence. I hate delays but at least some communication would make me feel they actually have the customer in mind, instead of them just maxing their own profit. Now all the talk is about quad core phones. ICS will be mainstream in a couple months. Current gen phones like the Galaxy S2 will be better than the Nexus then due to superior hardware. And the quad cores will make the Nexus seem so antiquated (with its 5MP camera and ancient GPU) that it will not even be worth buying. And though ICS shows a lot of promise I am disappointed with Samsung and Google for putting out a sub par product as their flagship, and I am upset for Verizon for taking so long to bring it to market.

    • Stewie

      Nicely said!

In addition, Verizon has NO reason to rush this to market, really!

      LEt’s see:

They got told it would be unlocked – so let’s delay it.

They got a chance to have ICS first – so let’s delay it until another carrier has it.

They figured reading our blogs that they could get greedy and extend the hype here without having to run any marketing ads, and they’ll sell out when they do release it.

Trouble is, if they delay it any longer, others that don’t delay will release something better that the G-Nex.

Moto on the other hand figures that the customer loyalty doesn’t matter, you buy one model touted as the next big thing, and after you get it from VZ, they go ahead and schedule a release with what it should have been in the first place (razr – razrmax) and EVEN THEN it isn’t what it should be, no excuse in the world for the razr and razr max to not have ICS on it, period.

      And in the tablet game;

      http://www.pcworld.com/article/245627/99_ice_cream_sandwich_tablet_to_debut_in_us.html

These guys are going to force them all to rethink the greed.

To tell the truth, I need to replace my OG, but I can’t afford to, and after this botched launch, I’m not sure I want to – quads may be coming and I can save up …

  • Rain_king46

It seems like every big phone that comes out on verizon they postpone it a million times and dont post real release dates until people are so pissed there is a bad name on what should be a huge device before it even hits the streets. Just ask the Boinic… Come on big red, I really want to see the nexus on your shelves on Friday….

  • CP

All these “official” reports and pictures look like I could have made them.  I’m waiting til I get an email by verizon and google. Ill be ready whenever it does drop, rumors are just misleading and disappointing. Patience young grasshoppers.

December 9 has been pushed back. Verizon has sent an internal email stating that december is a no go. I held the dam phone today from a trusted Verizon higher up friend. God dam Verizon.

  • Fields Mitch

I just left Costco in N. California and the rep there said he got an email this morning with the ninth as the date for Nexus.

The person I REALLY am disappointed at in all of this is myself. In my profession, if I let “things” get to me, people can actually die. So, shame on me, And yes, VZW has handled this like 5th graders holding a classroom election but still.

I fell for the hype over a piece of plastic that essentially means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Sadly, I will still buy the GNex but any “techno-buzz” from getting a Nexus device is long gone. If my area would crawl into the 21st century, maybe we wouldn’t be so dedpendent on “Big Red” for what have come to be essential services.

  • Tim Buchanan

Wake me up when VZW says something that didn’t slip out of their butthole.  I’m going to do something else until then.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joel.gautraud Joel Gautraud

So, I just won a Galaxy Nexus in the google nexus twitter contest and the guy from Google said they’d ship me a phone within 12 weeks, pending US release… Good lord I hope it’s sooner than 12 weeks.

    • Steve

congrats dude!  I’ll give you my droid X for it!

  • Anonymous

I have stopped stressing about this. My next phone will be the Galaxy Nexus. I will have it in my hands this month. That is all that matters to me. Verizon, if this is your way of trying to get me to buy one of your bloat filled phones before the Nexus, you are completely off..I will wait. BTW, F U!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/SighmanNH Kevin Hill

It looks like the reason the phone isn’t coming out Friday is the stores like Best Buy were not on board yet. They don’t have their phone or accessories and complained they didn’t want to be left out when it went on sale, knowing it’s going to be a huge seller. Verizon’s pushed the date back for those store to be able to launch it too. The outage has nothing to do with it.

  • Anonymous

So I guess the new release date for the GNex is January 16th, 2012!

  • EriclewisLt

almost wish I kept the Rezound but I was an early buyer on the 14th.

Noooooooooo! I’m off this Friday, how could you, Verizon?

  • stevil

Called two stores in the Denver Metro – both aware of the phone, both know it’s supposed to be “soon”, one noticed the removal of the release date, also confirmed $299/$649 on/off contract pricing.

  • dieringer scott

Just called another local store and he said “I do not have a release date yet” -_-

  • http://www.facebook.com/bcromer Brian Cromer

I decided to stop by VZW today to waste some time and look at some phones as a back up since my OG Droid has seen better days. So I decided to ask about the Galaxy Nexus I was told by one person it shoud be soon since they have been getting accessories in. I was told by a sales rep that it wouldnt be released within the next couple of weeks. He also told me that it would be a non contract phone and I would have to pay 6 to 7 Hundred for it. I asked him about it again and he again told me no contract at least that is how the other phones like it have been (huh what other phones) anyway I know you cant trust a sales rep I just thought it was amusing…

I think that this only means that some stores may not be receiving the phone until the 13th. Maybe the stores that have them will have them available on the 9th and by the 13th all stores will have them? I hope I’m right and I hope one of the two VZW retail stores in my town has them already waiting.

    • http://www.attackofthetech.com Wayne Howard

This is how I’m reading it as well. And it says launch immediately once they receive them.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OPPV7Q2BLKYB57VNKA5UPSGCQU tr1ple5

Nope… my local store said they have them but are not allowed to sell them yet.. i had a flippen appointment already for friday to pick up the phone. they said not to come in.

  • Tyler

Verizon when will you finally realize that releasing the phone on Friday is the right thing to do. I would take the phone with a problem that will get fixed quick enough than wait for a phone to get a problem fixed so I can buy it.

  • nexus on the brain

WTF, I got a belly full of white dog sh!t, and now you’re laying this crap on me

Loving my Rezound, enjoying 4G. Well, not today (the 4G part) anyway. The Rezound is a great device. For all of you that are suffering thru this, I feel your pain man……You might have grand kids by the time the Nex-ass comes out. HaHa!!!!

    • FSFer

And those of us with grandkids might be dead

  • Anonymous

This is worse than before.  Now I can’t plan to be at the store on launch day as it may be different for each store since it will be launched “upon receipt”

  • Anonymous

“This whole situation has become one giant mess – if that word even does it justice.”  I believe the word you are looking for is clusterfuck…..yeah, that word does this situation justice.

This news makes me sad. I heard 12/09 and got excited, confirmed the date w/ several VZW reps and a few corp store managers. I went to my local corp store on my lunch break, asked to speak to the manager specifically to try and get one held for me. She was actually super nice and would charge my account on Friday as soon as the store opened and I could come back during my lunch break to pick it up as it would be there waiting for me. I even have a $50 upgrade discount I can use on it. I get back from lunch just to read all this “getting delayed again” crap…..

  • eze4

Why doesn’t apple have these problems? This same bs happened with this raggedy a** thunderbolt I have. Every month my 4G single is going in & out, phones can’t get released on time. Verizon y’all are weak.

    • eze4

      Signal my bad.

  • SB1

Just to let everyone know, the phones are at the verizon locations and ready to go out.  My store rep actually let me play with the phone, and it’s “BEAUTIFUL”.  They are ready for release and are simply waiting the the green light from corporate.

    • Wondering?!?!

i was at my local verizon store yesterday and they didn’t tell me anything i already didn’t know. they said that it is rumored to be out on friday but of course i already knew that. were they just playing dumb with me about when the phone will be in store even if it weren’t on display?

      • SB1

It wasn’t on display they actually took it from behind the counter and let me play with it.  I know my reps really well we actually hangout so they just let me get a taste of the device. I live in Florida and I know if they have the device every location has it.

  • Guest

Got tired of waiting for this phone. got an iphone 4s. LOVING IT!.

will NEVER get into this fragmented mess that android is.. ever again!

    • Anonymous

That’s awesome!  After a week or two of use let us know what you think of Siri.

      • Anonymous

Siri is not useful. It is a great and innovative thing.. but certainly not going to be extremely useful for a while.

But the camera, hardware quality, screen, apps and their optimization etc… are simply the best.

        • Anonymous

If it were not for the screen size I would give the iPhone some serious thought. I know it is a great phone but I am used to the larger screens at this point and can’t go back.  But who knows….

          • Anonymous

I hear what you are saying.. and believe it or not.. I actually first returned the iphone 4s for the exact same reason.. I bought the iphone again.. only because I wanted to stick with a better ecosystem (in my opinion). The screen size though small for my likes.. I can see WHY apple did it. They wanted on average everyone to be able to use their phones with one hand… especially considering ios has only 1 button and the other “buttons” are built into the application for which you’d have to move your fingers around.

The process is very optimized.. and I am also pretty sure the next iphone will have a bigger screen with a better LTE chip.

Try it.. you won’t regret it.

    • eze4

I’m thinking about doing the same thing

      • Anonymous

do what I did. Get it from an apple store (thanks to someone else’s tip about this). they have a great 30 day return policy without penalties. I guarantee you… once you play around with the iphone 4s.. you ain’t going back.

        • RaptorOO7

Enjoy your iP4S, I sold my iP4S POS and will be happily back on Android.  Mail app fails to work since the 5.0.1 upgrade, it just sits there blank with no accounts listed.  Its not a network issue either since I have tried WiFi and still nada.  Then after I reboot it comes back.  Lack of 4G, same lame tiny screen and poor battery life.

Enjoy your iP4S I will enjoy my G-Nex.

This is all very weird… I called my local Verizon store today and asked if they would be sell the Galaxy Nexus on Friday, he said “Technically I’m not allowed to disclose this information, but we do have our demo model ready to be put out on the floor”. I replied “See you Friday then”.

  • J Dub

Right now all I care about is if they will have a BOGO event including the Nexus and Droid 4 before Christmas. I see myself getting the Nexus and my wife getting the Droid 4. Who knows though she may also want the Nexus. At least I would like for her to.
