Galaxy Nexus Car Mount for $39.99, 2-Minute Video of the Android 4.0 Camera Software

This morning, we received photo evidence leading us to believe that the Verizon 4G LTE  version of  Galaxy Nexus will launch with a bigger 1850mAh battery - 100mAh more than the GSM-Euro version. Also included with that photo was a list of accessories that should be on hand for the big day (whenever that may be) such as a desktop dock and car mount. The desktop dock we saw priced at $59.99, but the vehicle mount was still up in the air. It looks now like $39.99 will be the price.

And to add to all of the G-Nex fun that has taken place today, we wanted to share the video below of the ICS camera software put to the test. If you aren’t impressed by this, then go fly a kite. :)

Verizon don’t let this turn into another Bionic.

Great specs, but took forever to get to the market.

Maybe by November 24 you all can have it. A lot of accessories are coming out prior to launch.

Just call it Nexus Life already.

    • nexus on the brain

I said that same thing 2 weeks ago…seriously, Droid seems to not capture the reason MOST (based upon the polls) of us are at this site every second….

      • Anonymous

I agree,  DROID name is starting to become overrated because of how there using the brand and its becoming a niche… DROID-LIFE has the Android-Life site too but i mostly visit this one since its Verizon coverage. I understand they use DROID as the name to say its for Verizon androids though.

Only DROID i ever owned was the OG DROID Incredible (AMOLED) still love it to this day, better than my ThunderBolt.  I was excited for the ReZound but i don’t like how narrow the screen is compared to the ThunderBolt’s ratio, Galaxy NEXUS has more features and benefits than the ReZound, but i may take a nice test drive with it before the NEXUS is out.  Long Live the NEXUS!

        • nexus on the brain

Things change/evolve…seems like the “droid” brand seems a bit antiquated (I still am working my OG), and pure Android fans are really gravitating towards the Nexus brand, not the Droid brand (perhaps Google purchasing Motorola Mobility might change that down the road).  The locked bootloaders and bloatware that have infected the “Droid” are a shame.

Nexus-Life, Where all of you dreams come true!

  • Anonymous

40 dollars is way to much for a piece of molded plastic that holds my phone instead of Tom Tom.

  • Anonymous

This video of the ICS camera software makes it even more mandatory that Motorola keep their garbage camera software OUT of any ICS offering.  For as clever as those guys are, their camera software sure rots.

  • Anonymous

Had the joy of checking in accessories for the Nexus today. Got a chance to see the size of the Verizon variant. From what I could see the cases were thinner than the Droid charge cases, so suffice to say the device will more than likely be real close to the GSM size. In fact, it was ever so slightly thicker at its thickest point compared to the RAZR bump so that’s a good sign!

    • Anonymous

Out of all these posts this one makes me smile!

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Thats all you got? No dates no rumors?

      • Anonymous

Yes. Annoying isn’t it? The only solid bit info I got is a Black Friday launch, once again ’cause of the 6:30AM to 9:30PM shifts we were all scheduled.

Kellex – sorry to post a link from another site, but thought this would cheer up some folks.

How’s this for a rumor? How about THIS FRIDAY?!!

    • Anonymous

Shame on you Vito, people could get their accessories from this site. Let the people search and compare prices. Kellex should banned you for a month :)

    • Anonymous

This sounds like really good news. I’m nearly burnt out on Nexus rumors, but I really, really, really hope this one pans out. If it doesn’t I’m going to have to block all tech news sites until the darn phone is released. I spend far too much time searching for any scrap of news on the Nexus…

    • Anonymous

This post deserves more attention – WOW! I hope this is true man.

  • Mtnrhino

I have a question that I’m not sure has been asked…is the zero shutter lag on the Nexus a result of something Samsung or is it ICS?  Once the RAZR is updated to ICS will it boast the same zero shutter lag?

    • Pardes33

it is camera hardware i believe….

      • Dominick DeVito

I think it’s both – the fact that Google demoed it in their portion of the ICS presentation tells me the software had to change also.

    • PhilW1956

The camera on the Droid RAZR already has zero shutter lag.

    • Anonymous

The razor takes super fast pictures. The razor close to a perfect device, you will see when kellex does his review.

  • Djstar2k2

    cant wait

  • Anonymous

Based on all the “leaks” and accessories being released..there’s no way in HECK this beast is coming out in December…by Black Friday for sure!!

    • Dominick DeVito
      • Anonymous

Impossible. That would require an early warning for employees and we haven’t gotten any wind about a Friday launch. It would be all hands on deck like with the RAZR, which meant restructuring of the schedules which has not happened and can’t happen this soon. Furthermore, I’m in charge of marketing at our store and there’s no indication of a Friday launch. We just barely got cases today and a Friday launch would mean preparing displays, signage, etc. This week is mainly focusing on the new LTE markets for Thursday. I honestly expect the 11/21 web only launch followed by an all channel launch for the following week to pan out as true.

        • http://twitter.com/naonozawa Nao Nozawa

Maybe the Friday date is a pre-order date?

          • Anonymous

That would make more sense since we’re all expecting it on Black Friday. In fact, now that I think of it we’re scheduled open to close on Black Friday which can only mean a new device launch. And in case you were wondering, no, last year we didn’t do the same thing. It was just earlier shifts but no open to close. iPhone 4 launch, 4S and Razr launch have been the only open to close shifts I’ve had all year, the one on Black Friday leads me to believe it’s gotta be something major and what else could that be but this phone.

          • Dominick DeVito

I’m liking what I’m hearing – thanks guys – hopefully it rings true

But it is quite bizarre why Big Red has been so zip lipped about it.

          • Anonymous

This. It’s been so annoying. Today my heart literally went aflutter when I scanned our packing slip and saw “SAMI515SILHGBL” and the like on it. It has to be soon now, it just has to.

        • Dominick DeVito

But it could be web only like we’ve been reading all along, agree?

          • Anonymous

That’s what I’m expecting. Either Sunday, Friday or Thursday, in order of likeliness. Thursday’s last because like I said, that’s LTE expansion day so I doubt they’d schedule a pre-order campaign with all that hoopla goin’ around.

  • Anonymous

From the looks of the mount, does it just sit inside the cradle or does that mount also act as a case and it attaches itself to the mount?  I like that it lets the camera still see, makes for some cool driving videos when traveling.

    • http://twitter.com/naonozawa Nao Nozawa

I’ve been staring at that picture for a few min now and I still can’t figure out how the mount is going to work. It doesn’t look very easy to pop the phone in and out of it…

      • Anonymous

I’m wondering if its snaps in to it and then uses NFC to activate the car dock mode.

The waiting is torture though and each little bit of new info that leaks out is making it worse…  I may have to go get a ReZound until launch day lol :)

  • http://twitter.com/jgalkin Jason B. Galkin

So this car mount… it looks perfect for AR integration into google maps…. *crosses fingers*

    • Anonymous

from the looks of things, Google Maps has some AR integration so far, you can see a picture of the road your traveling on on the screen as the maps AR showing an arrow at your destination when you arrive but its not yet used in real time. My guess is because Street View isn’t  everywhere yet, only main roads, routes and highways.

      • http://twitter.com/jgalkin Jason B. Galkin

But that’s why you get AR – you use the GNex camera to stream in the “street view” and then you overlay the maps data based on the GPS.

  • Dominick DeVito

Great, so I’m going to buy the car dock, multimedia dock, extra battery, and battery cover. I feel like I’m missing something…

    • Anonymous

You are missing the nice build quality of Moto lol . Your device will be plastic.

      • Anonymous

I really wish your internet would crash….

        • Anonymous

Lol maybe It will. I want yours to crash as well since you never contribute to the discussions.

          • Bill Mitchell

I like the build quality of Moto’s phones, but until they have the internal stability of Samsung phones, I’ll pass. ;)

          • Anonymous

do you want more from moto’s hardware ? Are you insane? Have you played with the razor lately? That device is a masterpiece made by Moto :)

          • Bill Mitchell

It looks nice, but it’s far from perfect. I played with it the other day and the skin isn’t as bad as it used to be, but it definitely doesn’t need to be there at all, just messes up things. I like smart actions a lot. But seriously, it’s not going to be close to the galaxy nexus when it comes out because of ICS, and even when it does come to the razr it won’t be nearly as optimized. Moto loses it when it comes to the stability of how the phone works, this coming from a droid/dx2 owner :p

You have an obvious bias for Moto… why can’t you just be open to other manufacturers? Just because it doesn’t feel solid? Unless you’re just trolling :P

          • Anonymous

I am open for other manufacturers, but they need to have the features I like. For instance radios, call quality etc. Let’s see how Samsung does with the nexus.

  • http://twitter.com/ryocoon Kurtis Whittington

Oh dear baud… ICS camera app plus a nice tripod adapter… multi-focal images, possibly at different exposures, all to take and collapse together in PhotoShop (or an app) and make very nice HDR stuff.

    But, I like kites…. :(

this is the most horrifying wait for a electronic device ever.

    • JDRyan

I would agree with you, but then I remember the wait everyone had to endure for the Bionic. Good thing it didn’t launch sooner though because I would have probably bought one, and would not be able to get my hands on the G-Nex:-)

      • Anonymous

Yeah but the G-Nex will actually still be worth it in the end.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YEOAH3SHAKV7OYIWDABN2TOZR4 preachJESUS!

I used to work for a vzw call center.  When things are already in that system, usually that means its within a week or two of release from when they are first posted.

    • Anonymous

so whats that mean for the nexus launch?

  • Mark M

What I don’t get in all of this is isn’t the Nexus a carrier’s dream.  They get to tout their network as the first to carry ICS, something no other carriers can say.  However, Verizon seems as if this phone interrupts their operations and marketing. If I was Verizon I would we talking this phone up like no tomorrow.

    • Anonymous

Except with verizon they can’t load it with bloat to make more money so they don’t care.

    • Anonymous

you would think.  But they want to have the RAZR and Rezound and other high end android smartphones to sell.

If the Nexus came out as soon as it was unveiled, it would have completely destroyed the sales of those Phones.

There is a reason why the phone is not out yet and no carrier(s?) had said anything.  They come out touting “hey, the nexus comes out in a month” it would just have slaughtered smartphone sells all over the place.  Why get any other android handset when you can have the “real deal”?

That’s why they (or nobody) is saying anything.  They want to sell the crap because otherwise it wouldn’t sell.  That’s why.  Because carriers would be sitting on millions upon millions of Galaxy S II’s, HTC Rezounds (amazes, and other htc smartphones), RAZRs (and other motorola smartphones) if the carrier(s) from the beginning said.  Hey! we are getting the nexus.

    • Anonymous

      Verizon love their droids.

  • BFirebird101

A camera shooting a camera? Next it will be the Galaxy Nexus shooting down Apple, then we have Android domination! *insert evil laugh here*

  • Anonymous

Sure would be nice if I had a phone to actually use these accessories.

    • Anonymous

I feel that you can not buy a device at this moment. You have been a year or so comparing devices and you never get one lol.

      • Anonymous

Because I said about accessories being available for a phone that isn’t out means I never get a phone? You are a clown foolish moto troll. I just don’t settle for moto garbage.

        • Anonymous

You are fat. I know you only settle for samsung’s cheap plastic devices with weak radios and bad call quality :)

          • Anonymous

So last week I’m an htc fanboy and now a samsung fanboy? Maybe you’re to stupid to remember I have a moto droid you tool. Once again littering a non moto article with your moto fanboyism, you are worse than the isheep.

          • Anonymous

You are both htc and Samsung, that’s why you can choose either garbage lol. Tell your mother to choose it for you. You will still 2 more years with the device you have now.

          • Anonymous

Except the droid I am using is a friends since I sold my old phone and just using this. I never kept a phone more than 5-6 months. Go glaze your razr moto fanboy since we all know you never put it down.

          • Anonymous

You are stupid. I have said that I love my bionic, but I don’t like the build quality nor the display of it. I have also said that the razor is lacking the settings on the front facing camera to adjust the colors. I am realistic unlike you. You wanted moto to fail with the razor, but they didn’t and the razor is the king of all devices :-)

          • Anonymous

I honestly do not care how the razr does. To think I wanted it to fail you are the stupid one. Peace out moto fanboy.

  • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

It’s so pathetic Canadian carriers are even getting pre order dates now. Verizon is just pushing the Nexus community aside right now and it’s not fair at all. Razr and Rezound got dates right away and a month later we get absolutely NOTHING. I don’t even care if the date is December 8th JUST LET ME KNOW!!!!!!!!

    • Anonymous

Carriers do not care about the nexus it is all about the razor and the gs2.

      • Anonymous

If I recall, bmx said about them having no marketing reason since it has no “skin” and not much Verizon stuff on it.  Probably why its going to be online only.  Have you guys read the new poem?

        • Anonymous

I have not read about that, but that is probably what is going to happen. They did something similar with the Nexus S.

    • Anonymous

Remember to let your money decide the market. Not saying that you will in particular but DO NOT give in and buy a Razr/Rezound. If no one jumps ship Verizon will see what popularity it brings and will be forced to provide more things Nexus in a timely manner (unless they hate money of course)

  • Anonymous

A good car mount is a necessity for me.

Can anyone tell how the micro USB plug will work with this thing?

My OG Droid mount was super annoying, since I had to dock the phone and THEN plug it in manually.  My Bionic mount has a micro USB plug built into the dock (MUCH better).

    • Anonymous

I imagine it will use the connectors on the side. So it won’t connect to the micro usb port, but the three copper contacts on the left-side. So you’ll probably slide in the bottom first, the snap the top into place.

      • Anonymous

That would be awesome; I forgot about those magic contacts…

Only problem…  In this orientation, the pins would be on the TOP; that seems odd, but possible, I guess.  (Assuming that giant cutout on the left is for the camera.)

        • Anonymous

I’m not sure I understand. The pins are going to be on the bottom because the camera would be on the left in this orientation (or the camera is on the top when looking at it in portrait). Here’s a pic of the desktop dock: http://cdn.androidcommunity.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/IMG0473-X2.jpg

          • Anonymous

Now that is VERY strange…  See Ryan McFadden’s image below, the pins are on the right side of the phone (when held portrait), which would put them on the top when laid like the docks suggest…  Mysterious…

          • Anonymous

I was perplexed by that myself, but i think when Samsung teased that image they had it mirrored, because in the announcement the picture of the phone in the dock showed the power button on top as it was laying in the desktop dock and the contacts on the bottom.  I’ve seen that kind of goof up with HTC once or twice when they showed the USB port on the wrong side when they released side shots of upcoming devices, they later fixed them.

edit: ok i just watched the video above and i’m now confused even more, the contacts ARE on top with the power button, i wonder if the NEXUS dock uses NFC, because if I recall, the NEXUS doesn’t have a side USB jack, its on the bottom, right?

    • http://twitter.com/ryan_mcfadden Ryan McFadden

It will probably just use the POGO pins on the side of the phone

    • http://twitter.com/ryocoon Kurtis Whittington

Umm, you must have had a third party dock. My car dock for the Droid had a micro USB plug in it. It lacked audio through the plug, but that is a gripe with the hardware and not the dock. You had to plug in a separate power/micro-usb cable into the back, but there was a plug on the car dock.

      • Anonymous

I got the one from Motorola, shortly after release.  Was a better one made?

        • http://twitter.com/ryocoon Kurtis Whittington

Evidently there was. I must have a second-gen one, or one that was marketed just Droid but fit both Droid and Droid2. Ugh, that is an ugly clip-in holster. The one I have is certainly from Motorola though.

          • Anonymous

Damn…  I could have had a better dock for whole YEAR!  oh well…

          • Anonymous

The Droid2 dock was compatible with both the D1 and D2–it replaced the original D1 dock.  The D2 dock had the USB connector built in, but the original  D1 dock did not.

  • http://twitter.com/Phaze08 Cody Revels

This does it. I’m tired of the teasing. Actually, I like it, but I’m tired of it being just that, a tease. I want the phone running the official software. Especially since my device will probably get no update after Samsung dropped it like a bad hat. Starting today I will tweet Verizon multiple times a day until we get what we want. It worked before with the delays, why not now? Our people can fix whatever bugs the phone may have faster than theirs anyway and if they really want to, they could just push out updates, its a Nexus, after all.. /rant over.

  • Anonymous

OK, I know ever since Apple implemented it, touch-to-focus is the new hip thing, but I’d MUCH rather see someone implement manual focus on one of these phones. Make it an option that pops up a slider overlay and  when the slider is all the way on the bottom, it’s focused super close. Move it more towards the top and it shifts the focus out farther.

Both autofocus and touch to focus just typically do a TERRIBLE job and having this option would make it easier/possible to make a lot of shots that aren’t with those systems.

    • Jonathan Ofalla

That’s a good idea.  Maybe someone can develop an app to re-purpose the volume keys for manual focus.
