Samsung Galaxy Nexus Press Shot and Specs Released Ahead of Tonight’s Event?

The internets were already buzzing this morning after Japan’s Docomo semi-announced that it would be carrying the world’s next Nexus device in November and then this image just showed up. I’ll admit that I have no idea where it came from, but it looks like a catalog or magazine photo from Docomo for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It definitely doesn’t look like any of the fake renders that have been released over the last few weeks, so at this point we are willing to roll with it.

Couple of things we immediately notice are the words “Android 4.0″ for Ice Cream Sandwich. And then once your eyes cruise towards the bottom, you will see in fine print a couple of the rumored specs that could now be considered “confirmed.” What do we have? 1.2GHz dual-core OMAP 4460 and a Super AMOLED HD screen.

And today got started a lot earlier than we had anticipated…

Cheers bruceki and borgey!

YESSSsss keep them coming. I’m gonna have a great variety of phones on black friday to purchase for $1. *queue the evil laugh* MUAHAHA!!!! LOL

  • ChuckG73

    It’s Beautiful…..

  • Interstellarmind

Omap 4760? Ok, I’m hooked again.

    • Interstellarmind

      4460•

    • Anonymous

I think you meant 4470. It starts sampling early next year so no phone should be expected to have it until maybe summer at the earliest.

Wonder if this will be worth selling my Bionic for.

  • Anonymous

Any word on Dimensions of phone itself?  I like the big screen, but wondering WxHxD

    That’s my shit right there!

i hope its just a bad angle but the image on the right makes the phone look like a thick ol HTC phone.

  • Terrace Manley

BEST PHONE EVER MOM!!! Man i love this phone. Can’t wait to put this in my pocket. :o)

This is gonna be an awesome birthday for me ice cream sandwich and pizza lol

What is the difference between the OMAP 4430 and 4460?  Is it just 1.0 Ghz vs 1.5 Ghz?

    • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

      Better GPU too.

      • Anonymous

        Thanks for the quick reply

My Bionic was stolen from work a week ago, made a Claim with Asurion, but I wanted to see what the Nexus Prime was running before I paid the 100.00 deductible.  Guess I’ll be using the 100.00 towards this now.  I don’t see the Motorola RAZR being any better than this, but we’ll have to see.

        • Anonymous

Why not pay the deductible as you can probably get $300+ for your Bionic?

        • Anonymous

Spend the hundred and sell your Bonic for 2 or 3 before launch. Cmon man, basic economics. Lol

          • Anonymous

            Thought about that also

Checked Ebay, and it’s flood with Bionics for sale, and it doesn’t seem like anyone is really buying.

          • Anonymous

Craigslist… sold a Tbolt just a couple months ago for 300! Seriously. If you are patient, people will pay. Bionic is still very new, someone who tools theirs swimming without insurance will pay it. It will cost them half as much as anything new. Skip eBay. Sell local.

Quick question, I’m hoping you can help me.

If I sell the phone, the only thing the buyer needs to do is stick their SIM Card in the phone correct and it’ll work?  The ESN/MEID on 4G LTE phones are no longer attached to my account/number?  I’m trying to figure out if it’ll be a hassle for the buyer to activate the phone.  Thanks for the help.

      • Anonymous

Correction: same GPU, but clocked faster.

    • Anonymous

one can do 3D, the other can’t…and yes the 4460 can be clocked up to 1.5ghz

      • Anonymous

        Both can do 3D.

I thought it was more curved….also thought it was a 2000mAh battery…..weird that it’s 32GB ROM….also odd that it says 32GB internal with available 2GB memory card extra….

  • hatethanet

I hope it’s less curved like this pic than some of the earlier shots seemed to portray.

    • LiterofCola

Just the opposite, I hope it IS as curvy

  • Anonymous

Actually if you have the pic up and the pic below it for the teaser article you can see the side shots don’t match. Teaser has black side and this has silver/metal.  So one has to be wrong…

Edit: Maybe this is just the LTE SG2 and they just threw the ICS screenshot on it?

  • Anonymous

    boner induced

  • Anonymous

I’m inclined NOT to believe this simply because it looks different from teh “something BIG is coming” OFFICIAL advertisement.

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

This is most definitely fake, t least the image is. They ripped those screens from the leaked video. The side shot looks horrible because they have no idea what it looks like.

    • Anonymous

i agree. From the leaked video, the phone does not have a aluminum bezel that you can see looking at it from straight on.

      • Anonymous

Aha, but the leaked previous pics, how do we know which is the galaxy nexus and.which was the Nexus prime?

  • Anonymous

Still a good processor and phone unless you planned on gaming a ton on it.

  • Anonymous

DEFINITELY going to called the prime…

    /s

  • Justen Castle

I knew it was a long shot but I was hoping for the new Exynos processor and/or their new CMOS image sensor. I guess Verizon will get this version and a few months down the road the other carriers will get the new hotness.

  • John

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHN :D

  • hfoster52

    Communication system (GT-I9250/GT-I9250M/GT-I9250M/SC-04D): W-CDMA, GSM
    Communication Systems (SCH-I515): LTE, CDMA2000

So is this one or two phones?

  • Anonymous

    And it’s bigger than the Bionic… 136(H) x 68(W) x 8.8(d)

  • Viper3701

With it being clocked at 1.2, there should have plenty of room for overclocking/under-volting. The 4460 was suppose to originally be rated at 1.5, but im guessing they are having a hard time keeping it cool at that speed, or the battery is going to hell.

  • http://twitter.com/PainProphet TeHJones

Keep the leaks coming, Ohhh happy ICS day!

  • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

confirms SCH-I515 has a LTE,CDMA200 packet in it and LTE,EV-DO Rev …….. This basically confirms it’s coming to Verizon guys!

    • Anonymous

I think that news is considered old hat at this point.

    • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

I would say Verizon putting a MAP on it was what confirmed it.

  • http://twitter.com/hanyTwit123 Mostafa Hany

what happen to “Nexus Prime”? i don’t like galaxy nexus

    • http://twitter.com/JasonRosensweig Jason Rosensweig

nexus prime is supposedly the non-verizon version to be released later this year in the US

  • JP

You go, NTT DoCoMo! So much for a Verizon exclusive, since this is a GSM phone. Only Japanese network onCDMA is KDDI Au.

  • http://profiles.google.com/desmet2006 Alex Fischer

Surely I can’t be the only one to see what’s wrong with the picture.

First, look at the front view and look at the top (where the clock, etc is in the status bar)….notice the no signal bar?  Why would a press shot show a picture of a phone with no signal, doesn’t seem right.  We all know what ice cream sandwich looks like, so I think it’s possible they pulled japanese icons from android and put them on top of the leaked screenshots.

Seems like an elaborate fake, but then again we won’t have to wait long

    • Zac Hart96

Power button and dock connectors are on the opposite side of samsungs teaser shot

      • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

        Wrong.

        • EC8CH

correct… the docks ports have always been shown on the same side as the power button, which I must say is very intriguing :-)

    • http://twitter.com/JasonRosensweig Jason Rosensweig

the signal bars are to the left of the battery indicator. why would they fake a screen shot and print it in full color on magazine/flyer paper? besides if this is just a promo and not a true marketing piece to appear in mass publication it could just be a quickly thrown together rendering for the event.

  • Automaddux

I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubbles but the device shown above looks a little more bulkier than pics previously surfaced. Now I know those were not official pics but the picture above looks to be way thicker than 9mm. Just my take on it. But I’m still excited to see what’s in store.

  • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

    Hoping for $549 full-retail price.

So happy it has the 4460, so much room to overclock.

    • Anonymous

      $550?? LOL

      • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

It’s a Nexus, Full-retail price on Nexus’ are usually lower.

Most it will be is $599, likely lower.

        • Anonymous

I just highly, highly doubt it. Right now the Nexus S that was exclusive to BB (through T-Mo) is $650. If I was a betting man I’d guess somewhere in the $600’s, not anywhere lower.

          • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Chris Gustafson

That’s a Best Buy problem though.

            Nexus S 4G through Sprint is $549 full-retail.

          • Anonymous

I know they overcharge on full retail price, but if the rumor was true about this launching in BB only for the initial run then that’s what you’ll pay. Also notice that most of Verizon’s LTE phones are not that low for full retail.

that side shot looks different than the “something BIG is coming” ad.  the shot above shows an entirely brushed aluminum side (or nearly anyway)…  The “big” ad, shows an almost half aluminum, half plastic with the plastic being toward the glass/front side of the phone.

Last night I returned my Droid Bionic and am now ready to purchase this!

    • Anonymous

So what phone you’re using for the rest of this month?

good move. my bro bought the bionic and isn’t so excited about it anymore. locks up on him then when he reboots 2 or 3 apps have disappeared.

specs pretty much indicate no microSD slot, according to androidcentral (via other pages via translation). http://www.androidcentral.com/latest-galaxy-nexus-leak-looks-be-best-yet . tad disappointed, but prob won’t stop me.

nexus phones have never come with an SD card slot so i wont be suprised if they follow that trend

    ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

  • Mgillster

My problem with Samsung is how they are trying to mirror Apple. Look at their designs, they look like apple products. Look at their products almost none of them have a memory slots. Who else does that?…..APPLE!

    • Anonymous

Not now. Not here. This doesn’t look ANYTHING like a fruit phone. Please STFU, troll..!

    • Mgillster

with a pure Android OS, it should be customizable……SO WHERE IS MY MEMORY SLOT?

      • Jboogie1289

        You pissed Bro?

    • Anonymous

Normally their products do, but to me, this one doesn’t mimic an Apple product much.

    • Anonymous

I’ll be honest, I like the way the iPhone looks. So the fact that Samsung phones look similar is a good thing for me. With that said, this is the least Apple-looking phone that Samsung has put out.

      • http://twitter.com/WaltPartlo Walter Partlo

I have read rumors that the fruit phone 5 will have a teardrop form factor, so maybe Samsung is just copying them preemptively. :)

It looks like theres a date at the bottom, It has 2011 10 11, So I guess thats 11/10/2011. Which is a Thursday lol.. I doubt they do Thursday releases in Asia too.. If they get it nov 10th, we probably wont get it until the end of nov

    • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

LOL who the f*ck would even think about getting that stupid DROID HD when you got this monster up for grabs? I’m sorry Motofail you have officially just got pwned. It’s a wrap!!!!!!!!!

      • HDDroidRAZR

Let’s see- ME!  That Nexus looks too thick, almost reminds me of the Thunderbolt/Revolution/Bionic thickness.  I would also much rather have a 4.3 inch phone with minimal bezel then a 4.65 inch phone with a lot of bezel.
As long as the RAZR gets ICS (very likely as it will have the OMAP 4460) then no need for the Nexus and not too mention the phone looks much nicer and is way thinner.  Some Droid HD specs for ya- NFC, Super AMOLED qHD screen, Kevlar coating, HD front camera, etc.  The RAZR will last me the full two years, while the oversized Nexus will be weathered after a year.

        • Anonymous

          qHD… lol

        • HanD

so what’s the decision now that the razr officially has no ICS and NFC?

          • HDDroid

Good call- unfortunately it looks like a Moto Fail to me.  All Moto needed to do was include an NFC chip and ICS and it would have been a worthy competitor to the Nexus- and taken my $.
I can’t imagine reading all of the great features of ICS and knowing I could be enjoying them too.  i just wish the Nexus was not so big!- It’s now reported to have a 4.7 in screen, crazy.

    • palomosan

At 10pm, I’ll have a box of ICS for anyone who cares to join me live to celebrate.

I will be very disappointed if this does not have a micro sd card slot.

    • tjmonkey15

Me too.  Hopefully they are smart enough to include one.

    • Anonymous

I know that was the ONLY reason I did not get the Nexus S

    • guest

Agreed,  this might be the only reason i don’t get this phone.  I really do want ICS though, so i dont know.  I’m happy with my bionic, but ICS is tempting lol

    • Anonymous

Quite frankly, I don’t understand the big to do about it possibly not having a card slot.  Most phones will only allow up to 32GB anyway and that is what this supposedly has.  The only thing that could possibly be a little bit of a pain is transfering stuff from your old phone to this, but aside from that I dont see any issues with it not having a card slot.  I have taken the card out of my Thunderbolt probably once maybe twice since I bought the phone on launch day.

      • Anonymous

put all your photos and music in the cloud (picasa/google music/amazon mp3).  All of your apps are saved in the cloud in the market or amazon appstore.  expandable memory is in the cloud now – NOT on a micro SD.

        • Bullet Tooth Tony

Yes, you certainly could do that.  But don’t forget we’ve been hamstrung with a 2 gb data cap….

        • Anonymous

There are two things I appreciated most when traveling a lot. Spare batteries and a handful of microsd cards packed with movies and TV shows. I like to always have everything with me. No signal to use on a 16hr flight to Sydney so in my limited and unique experience, this was very important. Just saying.

    • GotMoo

did you notice in the referenced article it should have an sd slot?
      “RAM: 1GB
      ROM: 32GB
External Memory: 32GB microSD up to a maximum 2GB/microSDHC “

      • http://twitter.com/WaltPartlo Walter Partlo

nice :) they should have a holiday Nov.6 in honor of the OG lol its been a great phone.

          • Nate Surber

Me too.  It’s moving toward the light.  At least once a day it will just shut down on its own.  It could have a full battery, does not matter.  It’s getting narcoleptic in its old age.

        • Anonymous

I’m with you. Although Project Elite v6.5 has helped extend my OG’s life, it’s time for a replacement. Despite four available upgrades since April I’ve passed on every phone that’s come out waiting for something like this. This phone can’t get here soon enough.
