You can actually find the Gingerbread SBF file (.608) now. Do a google search for ‘VRZ_A956_4.5.608_1FF_01.sbf’ and you’ll be all set.

What is the link for the D2G 2.2 Android SBF at MyDroidWorld? I searched for
DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL and got nothing. Finding this file is a massive pain!!!!

I had to reactivate my D2 -painless- and I’m getting the GB update right now!!
I’ll re-root tomorrow, can’t live without root access lol.

I just have to say: THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!
after rooting and creating a nandroid backup (which failed when tried to recover) I found myself stucked with liberty 2.2, is not bad but I lost everything and the little bugs it has got me frustrated after a while.
I followed the steps described her to the T and it worked to the perfection.

Thank you for this, the only other place i could find links was mydroidlife and they require you to $%^&ing register first. I tried, and I’ve been waiting 4 hours for an e-mail AND I’m logged in…but it still says “register to see links”.

Screw that, this post is a win. You should consider posting it on XDA since their version is out of date and the download links are broken.

the same thing happened to me where the D2G would be roaming and the update button was greyed out. I did not get lucky with the wifi fix though. Instead you need to hold turn phone off then hold “x” as you hold power button. The motorola symbol will flash then a triangular caution symbol should be visible. From this point hit the magnifying glass key (below “x” key) and a list of 4 options should appear. you should be able to navigate (with volume buttons) down to “re-format and clear all data” or something like that, select with camera button and the phone should re-boot. Now you’ll be able to get 3G – download a 15MB update over the air (OTA) then install update. Now you should be able to download the 104MB gingerbread update.

so for a windows user with droid 2 global:

install Motorola drive from link in the above post about D2
install RSD Lite 4.9 (4.8 might work.. didn’t try it)
download DROID2WE_X6_2.4.29_FULL.sbf (257MB zipped)
follow steps laid out in above post (I was in USB Debugging mode – settings>applications>developmetn>check usb debugging)
phone should reboot normally after the RSD software executes the SBF
everything is OTA from here
