‘d be more than happy to pay on a per MB basis… assuming I can use
those MB anyway I like; It pisses me off that I would have to pay extra
to tether a laptop to my phone when i have 5 “unlimited” data
phone lines on my contract (One of the lines is a dumb phone, but buying
data for it saved me a few bucks overal

No. They are going to be offering bucket data plans. They’re still in the process of deciding how much they should charge and the minimum GB required to enter the data share plan. It will be 2Gb, 3GB, or 5GB minimum. And, each device you add, will be either an additional $10 or $20. It will allow you to share data with other phones but also with the iPads, net books, etc. I was part a group surveyed today to give my opinion on which plan looked most desirable to me.

I chose a family plan for 2 phones with 2000 minutes and 2 Verizon iPads sharing 2GB of data paying $10 for each additional device. It was $199 for everything.

no, i work for verizon and i guarantee the only thing that is changing for the family share plans is the way it’s viewed in our system and the customers bill. you will see one main charge like 50 bucks and the primary line and secondary line will both be 9.99 instead of the primary being 59.99 so that way you’re still sharing the minutes but if the primary gets suspended or something like that it doesn’t make it so the secondary lines end up in an orphan situation and have no mins to even get. other than that there’s more confusion on my part cause i have to explain this shit to stupid customers that are completely arrogant and ignorant. anyways, have fun with your shitting verizon plans, cheers!

For what it’s worth: Am in a similar boat of upgrade eligible but do not like any of the current phones…waiting for Bionic. Posed 7/7/11 rumored release date to Indy area VZ store agent who looked in store’s computer and said Bionic release now looks like November time frame. What a bunch of BS! Am fast concluding I do not need internet access anywhere/everywhere I go for ~$400/year-in addition to calling/text plans-much less more if VZ moves to the tiered data pricing structure being reported.

If Big Red is going to charge by data usage like this they definitely shouldn’t be charging us more if we want to tether that data. Ridiculous!

Didn’t any of you at the bottom where they mention ignore the numbers meaning that this is not for cell phones but it is for other Mobile Broadband devices. But I bet that family data shared plans are on the way though.

Whoever provided you the timeline left a bit of information out. Some customer trials begin on the 26th, but that is it. While the new format will be in the systems the new data is not slated to drop until 2012.

I’ve got a pretty sweet deal going on where I’m paying $19.95 per line for “unlimited” data and get 20% off as well, but if you look at the actual data usage, each line is around 1GB of usage, so I’m probably still over paying…..I wish they would get rid of the data packages and just say it’s $10/GB, and let you use it as you wish.
