A-GPS uses the network to either help locate the satellites faster or get location info from a server (based on info passed from the device). It is still, at heart, a GPS device which primarily uses the satellites for positioning, the network is just there to "assist," but is not required. If you don't have a data signal, your GPS should still work fine (barring interference), but it may take longer to lock onto the satellites it needs for a proper fix.

This would definitely be nice. Was up near Yosemite a few weeks ago and had minimal cell, no data at ALL. Had plenty of GPS signal though as we used my stand alone GPS device. I like to think Google Nav is more accurate. Both the hotel and one other way point the TomTom wanted to have us keep driving 3/4 to a mile plus past the destination. I've never ever seen that happen with Google. I try to be "good" and use the TomTom for right now though since it was a Christmas gift surprise. The plus side to the TomTom is a bigger screen. My entire OG Droid fits over the TomTom's screen with just a bit to spare on each side.

I tried Google nav once, plot my way to a Target near by.
1. It tell me to turn left at a divided road with a 2 feet high wall and trees in the middle.
2. 3 of the 5 streets that are on the route are spelled wrong.
3. It point me to a spot that is half a mile from the Target.

So it's feature rich, tell the future and it can keep you warm at night, but if it tells you to drive off the bridge it's a piece of you know what. To those 1 trick pony, I've had every smart phone since the Nokia days and yes iPhone too. I've tried every nav out there. Make sure you can say "been there, done that" and know something else beside this 1 trick before drooling all over it. There's always something better out there..oh and that super duper Android phone you paid half your dad's monthly salary for the other day?...It's outdated.
On the other hand, if Google Nav is your God, then by all means...
