More DROID Bionic Pictures Surface – 4.5″ qHD Screen, New 3D Blur, and Android 2.3.4

The look of the new DROID Bionic is no longer a surprise after some pictures leaked out this morning, but we were still wanting to know more – specifically about the specs.  Well, we think we may have some after an extra set of pictures that looks like a continuation of the ones from earlier found its way onto another non-U.S. forum.

That 3D animations tip we mentioned earlier appears to be confirmed with a good look at the device’s new Blur.  Also, how does a 4.5″ qHD screen sound?  There is a shot of the device’s docking software, the new Bionic Red Eye, and that hot new lock screen which was first spotted on the DROID3.  Oh, and did we mention Android 2.3.4?  Yep, when this phone is released, it should be running the newest version of Android available.

About screen showing Android 2.3.4 and “DROID Bionic”:

Great photography is not possible on a phone as of yet…  Unless you still mean auto-point and shoot modes

  • http://twitter.com/Monkdn Ray Baker

    I would…  and I’d even Pimp out those BJ’s every other week…

  • http://twitter.com/Monkdn Ray Baker

I can’t buy the TBolt baised on all the battery life reviews…

Just release the freakin thing already

  • Mr. Smith

    HOLY S@@@!!!!!  BRING IT!!!!!!!

  • Motofan

I really hope it’s not 4.5″. That’s just too big for a phone.

  • Drew Galyen

The background on the webtop dock is from the Droid 3…and that lip looks EXACTLY like the recently leaked shots of the Droid 3…and those about screens are easy to rewrite, or so I’ve heard…

    *sniff sniff* fishy?

  • Lance_rhoads

Sick of waiting on the bionic

can someone please tell me what a bootloader is , what it does and the pros and cons on it , sorry for the stupid question just dont know what that is , thank you for your help , i think this is going to be the best phone of the yr for any phone company.thank you for explaining what a bootloader is .

    • John Gaspardo

I am pretty sure that it is a combination of hardware and software much like a bios on a computer. It is what loads android much like your computer bios runs windows linux os x etc. In the case of android many phone manufactures are locking down phones with an efuse chip designed by ibm? that basically does a check for the “proper” version of android which in many cases is a modded changed version of android such as moto blur. This locked boot loader prevents developers from creating and installing custom roms and since im not a developer i couldn’t tell u how they get around this chip.  anyway if the version doesn’t match what this efuse chip is looking for the phone won’t boot. by defeating the chip you can gain root access which allows access to all file systems which if changed by someone that doesn’t know what their doing will turn your 500 doller phone into a 500$ brick of glass and plastic

4.5 is way to big ,4.3 is okay but 4″ hits the spot

    • Corymcnutt

ROFLMAO!  Sorry, but this sounds so funny talking about a phone!

  • http://twitter.com/ncoulombe Nathan Coulombe

4.5″ is just too freaking big. At some point, these things won’t fit in our pockets anymore. I have a TB, and 4.3″ is plenty generous.

  • Prickee

Sorry not impressed…..Nothing new here…keep it moving…..TB still has the most impressive look for a verizon 4G even though I would call the TB a bit chunky but it’s just a cousin of the EVO so not too surprised there.  D3, BIONIC I mean is Motorola going to impress…..Oh and the don’t fall for this qHD screen marketing crap…It gives you horrible color saturation. Point blank Super AMOLED should be a phone standard screen people.  If the Droid Charge wasn’t Samsung G-Wiz and more attractive like the TB ladies and gentlemen we would have a clear cut 4G standout.

Guys get over the whole “If it has an unlocked bootloader” phase. 99% of people can care less if it has a locked bootloader or not. Motorola is in the business of selling phones to the masses and not to that 1% who want to load custom things onto there phones.

  • woo

This phone is going to be the biggest flop. It’s so hyped up the upset of people who buy it and are disappointed is going to be fantastic.

  • Gee

Cant wait for the locked down now side loading anti dev phone. WHOOOHOOO?

  • jbonics

How much radiation is that thing giving off. Whoooooooow

I was Droid 3 all the way but after this i might have to go Bionic. They only thing holding me back is the physical keyboard. Is it easy to make the adjustment from physical to on screen keyboard?

    • T Hall

Yes.  I was the same as you, and now I never use the keyboard on the OG Droid; I only use the touchscreen.  You will be fine, touchscreen keyboards have come a long way.

      • Rp780

Thanks. Looks like I’m going Bionic.

    • Corymcnutt

It is an adjustment, but I like it much better than physical keys now; you need to give it a couple weeks.

Personally, I think the “new” BIONIC is a little too big for my taste.

Goodbye TB We had a nice run but the Bionic is taking your place!

  • http://profiles.google.com/apostrafee Luke Johnson

that is one good lookin phone

  • LivinFree

Looks like crap if you ask me. And what are they nuts 4.5″ screen. Most people are not going to want to carry a brick around in there hand. Let alone hos bad the battery life will be more then likely on it. We really need specific specs on this thing before any real judgement can be made tho. The only thing that will save them is if they give us an unlocked bootloader or an option to unlock like the Xoom had. If not it tells me they have choosen the path to walk themselves to the grave again.

    • Corymcnutt

      4.3″ vs 4.5″ – not much of a difference!

  • Anonymous

Looks like my next phone. That is, if its launched with all of its advertised features.

  • RW-1

From the pics here, doesn’t look like a “lowered” chin, but more like an extension of the whole phone, like the Nexus. So I say no PKB.

But who cares? It will be locked down, and who needs blockbuster VZ apps and bloat?

Rename it to the Moto Jha Tool …

  • http://twitter.com/brett6781 Brett Stevens

I just hope to god it’s unlocked

  • LarryL

If it doesn’t have a physical keyboard, then i question the DESIGN PHILOSOPHY behind that weird bevel below the capacitive buttons. What is that for then?? Shave that thing off and you got a shorter phone. Like the 4.5″ screen is not big enough.

    • LarryL

Oh, and blame 3rd-party apps for low battery life? and 70% of returns?? LOL motorola. My DROID OG will be the last thing I ever get from you. HTC will be my next phone when I upgrade this fall.

“i just got a lil wet”

  • Anonymous

That REALLY looks like it has a physical keyboard.  Are we positive it’s NOT a D3?

      exactly what i’m sayin man…

    • http://twitter.com/mnkyhead mnkyhead

Yeah it seems a little too similar to the D3

Return my LG Revolution from yesterday, swallow the restocking fee, and wait for a device with no release date? I don’t know…. I’m actually really torn. HELP.

  • Dellbx

    Pass…

  • Wareaglevi

Wow! The Bionic is looking really impressive. It would be even better with GSM capability.

So when is the release date, Moto?

  • Anonymous

This is no EVO 3D that’s for sure there not mentioning the specs cause this is that omap junk…HTC PIMP SLAPS MOTOROLA EVERYDAY

    • http://profiles.google.com/statsprofessor Jakub Palka

Are you serious? HTC evo3d/sensation are junk, busts, omap, tegra 2 whatever, still better than htc ancient slow cpu’s.

      http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph4416/38186.png

quadrant is pathetic, smartbench is pathetic, browser scores are pathetic.

Just sad little devices from HTC.

  • JamalJamal

Just release the $%&%@# phone already! My Incredible is on it’s last leg!

  • Steven Tolnai

I actually like the look of this one better than the old one (other than the lip bit looks don’t really matter to me, I care about what’s inside :-) ) but I’m actually not minding the new Blur too much. Looks pretty good, just hope it runs well. However I’m not gonna lie, I’m with everything else on the bootloader deal. I want me some root. :-)

  • Jcorf

Uh so I feel like 4.5″ is a little bulking and big. I would rather it be 4″. Anything bigger is more of a tablet than a phone and doesn’t fit in my pocket.  Ugh, well I can’t decide between this and the DROID3.

  • ImmaDroid224

So does this mean that the Droid Bionic has a physical keyboard? It sort of looks like it’s hiding a physical keyboard. It has the same exact lip at the bottom that resembles the OG Droid and the Droid 2.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bryson-Williams/642971615 Bryson Williams

thats what im sayin man maybe its a D3

  • MicroNix

Judging from the first screen shots this shouldn’t be a bing phone since it is “with Google”.  There’s one part right…

  • Youllreachus

Any one mention the “no sim card” message on the screenshot?

    • http://openid.aol.com/tropic117 tropic117

Just means it doesn’t have the 4G LTE sim card in the device.

And who ever leaked those models got fired. Serial numbers to who it was assigned to are exposed on the front :
