Motorola Employee Confirms Gingerbread Update Headed to DROIDX, DROID Pro, DROID2 and Global, – Finally Fixes ActiveSync Issues

Motorola’s Support forums are alive today with talk of the impending DROIDX Gingerbread (Android 2.3) “soak” that we first reported on over the weekend.  Many users are worried that ActiveSync will still be broken, but Moto employees are assuring us all that it has been fixed this time around.  I’d have attempted to confirm this on all of the leaks, but I’m a Gmail man and will have to rely on all of your input for that in the comments.

What might be even more important though, is the confirmation that the rest of the DROID series that was introduced last year will also all be receiving 2.3 in the near future.  The DX is first (which is not surprising) and will be updated by the “end of the second quarter”, although we’re thinking it’ll be much sooner than that with user testing going on this week.  Afterwards, the DROID Pro and both DROID2’s will receive it some time “before the end of the third quarter.”  And to add to that thought, we’ve been told that almost all of the GB builds for these devices have been completed, but as always is up to VZW to approve them.

Update:  It looks like that Moto employee is probably receiving a firm spankin’ as his comments have been edited by the forums’ manager.  Luckily our friends at Phandroid grabbed a screenshot before it was changed.

Cheers Heath!

What about ActiveSync is broken? I’m using on my DX running GB now and it’s working great.

Now I just need to figure out how to get the update…
I downloaded the “stock” gb that was posted a while back but it didn’t install. If only I could get on the xda forums at work I would be set!
    haha

Im having the same issue. Seems as though some rooted users have to sbf back to 340, then get 588 and then get 591. I’ll be attempting it this weekend.

      • StanleySpadowski

If that works can you email me what you used and did to make it happen?

        thanks

naise to see some D2 love finally although I am rocking Zombie Stomped 1.71 and loving it, no rush anymore to update… unless its 2.3.4 .. that would be a wonderful surprise :D

HAHAHAHA not trolling but my OG droid has been running gingerbread for months now flawlessly. how does it feel to be behind the curve?

    • Bfundaro10

Yea so has the droid x and droid 2

    • Anonymous

It sucks. Havent been able to make it work on my DX so far.

  • Raptor007

I just flushed my buggy arse D2G that reboots all the time down the toilet.  Off to something a bit more useable.  Still nice to know by the end of Q3 (and it will be the end) D2 users will finally get something else that is locked down.

I just spoke to a Tier2 Verizon Support Tech about an unrelated issue on my X and was told that he was running 2.3 on his X testing it from Verizon.  I don’t know if he really got his update from Verizon or if his is the leaked one that everyone else is running though.

Still waiting on news about Gingerbread for the Atrix 4G. I really wish they would just skip Gingerbread and wait for Ice Cream Sandwich to come out, thus making the Atrix one of the first phones with ICS on it.

     GB is meh…

  • Emike72

2.3.3? 2.3.4 has been out for months and has a security fix/patch. Seems like a Moto/VZW fail.

    • Mr.Joe

Yes, it’s a vzw fail cause they make the firmware!

  • http://twitter.com/Damn_ItsMike Michael C.™

Now all we need is another Droid 2 leak

  • Anonymous

Active Sync is still broken with CM7.0.3 which is based on 2.3.3

Improved Email works fine though. Google should just buy out some Apps for their code base.

  • Mr.Joe

OH MY GOD GINGERBREAD ON DROID GINGERBREAD ON DROID!

Now where’s my box to scratch at?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=716789798 Lonnie Kerchief

I see no mention of the Droid X2. This mutant blur-gingerbread hybrid Froyo on it worries me that if they took the time to put this crap together, that the DX2 won’t be seeing Gingerbread anytime soon.

    • Vtxtank

My DX2 I got today came with 2.2, yours came with 2.3?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=716789798 Lonnie Kerchief

No, I think you mistook what I posted. We have 2.2, but they made *extensive* UI changes to make it look like it’s 2.3. I’m not sure why they took the time to make all of those changes to 2.2 if we were going to be getting 2.3 in a matter of weeks. I’m really worried we’re stuck with 2.2 for months or until something leaks now.

    what about d1?

    • http://thisisjohncoffey.com GRAND MASTER SEN$Ei {{-_-}}™

      What about that unlocked bootloader you have? Go get it. {{-_-}}

    • Anonymous

too old for Moto to care about. CM7 or Pete’s ROM?

      • Anonymous

I like both – they have their respective pluses and minuses. But seriously Bryson, the only way you’re getting GB on your D1 is by rooting it and flashing it yourself like the rest of us did.

  • Faceonahead

please oh please include the milestone2 in this update and I’ll stop my trolling about locked bootloaders

    • http://thisisjohncoffey.com GRAND MASTER SEN$Ei {{-_-}}™

      No you won’t. Nor should you. {{-_-}}

  • Motosuk

I seriously doubt moto can put anything out that can beat evo 3d or the SGS2

    • http://thisisjohncoffey.com GRAND MASTER SEN$Ei {{-_-}}™

      The Bionic is already looking to be a fail. They better make the Droid 3 with 4G LTE to go along with that dual-core processor. Better yet, make the Droid 3 a Google Nexus phone. {{-_-}}

      • Ron Kurkowski

DROID 3 will have a dual core but no LTE

    • Anonymous

The Droid 3 and Bionic will have OMAP 4430 dual cores (up there in speed with the Exynos) with the Bionic even possibly having the Tegra 3, 1 GB ram, at least 16 GB memory, 4″ and 4.3″ qHD IPS screens, at least 8 MP highly improved cameras, front facing cameras, LTE for the Bionic, large batteries and typical excellent Moto build quality plus the much better new version of Blur.  What’s better about the Evo 3D or GSII?  Sorry, design is subjective and brand is irrelevant.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LEP2PO6BC524BBC4K5CRPFOJFY josh

No tegra 3. Benchmark test for bionic are showing a TI processor. Dropped tegra because of issues with it and LTE.

  • guy man dude

im excited, dont fail me now moto…

When is the soak gonna happen?

    • Rain_king46

The rumor is Thursday. But it could happen any time.

  • Julio

Kellex, if you want to test ActiveSync, sign up for a Hotmail account and create a “Corporate Sync” account on your phone.  Your username is your email address and the server is m.hotmail.com.  To sync Outlook to your hotmail account, download Microsoft’s “Outlook Connector”.

where can i find the procedure to go back to 340 from 588

  • Chad

why so long for the d2??

  • SADSADSAD

It’s getting sad for the DROID line up… since all the other companies are pushing out evo 3d, SGS2, and later even the new iphone and the rumored quad core nexus 3. So what does the DROID line offer? Oh yeah just the DROIDX… Laughable!

    • http://thisisjohncoffey.com GRAND MASTER SEN$Ei {{-_-}}™

      Don’t forget the Samsung Droid Charge. {{-_-}}

    • NovaeMeme

And the upcoming Droid3, not to mention the highly anticipated Droid Bionic.  Sheesh.

Uh, Droid 3 and Droid Bionic will both be beasts.  The Droid X2 is no slouch either.

  • Dfhdsio

Enjoy this as much as you want guys, but keep in mind that while you are still using blur and other stuff, us htc users are enjoying htc sense 3.0 on the dinc and other phones.

     eff ya!!!!!

  • Woodylee

I was one of the users who had tons of issue with ActiveSync on the DX since day 1.  After installing the .595 leak the performance of ActiveSync on the native app has definitely been improved.  Push mail used to fail almost immediately in froyo and is working as solidly as TouchDown in GB.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aaron-Rose/100000483772011 Aaron Rose

2.3.3, huh? Well, good for them. I’m already on liquid’s 2.3.4, so I’ll probably pass on this.

  • Dman27

DO i stay rooted with APEX? or unroot and get gingerbread?! …. my battery life has sucked lately too

    • Rain_king46

Unless you are a part of the Motorola feedback soak group, wait. Its going to be at least a week if not two.

      • Dman27

Ok but I should switch when its out?

        • Anonymous

Go back to .340, take the update, re-root and re-ROM. That way, Verizon doesn’t know you are rooted (since that’s based on whether or not you took the updates).

        • Rain_king46

If you prefer ROMs over stock as your current install would suggest, maybe not. I dont think this OTA will have much that the GB ROMs based on the leaks dont already have. Personal call really

@g00ber you know that it will more likely be updated, however i imagine it to just be stock Droid 2….

        • Anonymous

That would be a dick move to make it a stock and kill the built in r2 stuff
          :(

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LEP2PO6BC524BBC4K5CRPFOJFY josh

Id hate to say it but I dont see the R2D2 getting gingerbread and the reason being is just the integration with all of the star wars things that made it neat.

          • DBK

Some apps and widgets, wallpapers, and sounds. Those shouldn’t get affected. The only real issues would be the lock screen and the boot animation. It would suck if the R2D2 owners didn’t get it. There is always the leaked version I guess.

Finally some news for my D2G that has one rom available that hasnt been updated since dec 2010 i wish i never got this phone if i knew it wasnt going to be supported in the rom department. the only reason i got it is because i travel outside of the country alot.

    • Scuutuh

Switch the G and R in your name and it would be GAY RRAY. HAHAHA.

    • Gunz Jones

completely incorrect on number of roms available and any updates being made for the phone rom wise. grd, fenuxx and angel all are still working toward perfection, although grd is broken up at the moment.

      • Erin

Are you sure you’re not talking about the D2?  I’ve got the D2G, and the rom support is practically non-existent.

        • Bob

fission and romer fix for liberty.  still not much support though.  but that is what we get for having a phone that can do things others cant.
