Getting this ASAP – I’m a gamer and I’m not ashamed of it…emulators will be enough for me for awhile, but if something outstanding comes out, nothing will beat playing it with a true controller. There is a niche market for this phone of course, but at least its being served by someone, right?

for most gamers I know, phone capability comes in at a distant second, if at all. They prefer the type of communication that invovles a headset and yelling “headshot”

3g and not 4g…. And this is supposed to be a gaming device. Obviously not an online gaming device. Android has a perfect opportunity to surpass ios in gaming. And they can do this with online gaming. Sadly the only online game I’ve seen so far is link 4 (connect 4) by playmesh

The only thing I use my slide out keyboard for is my Game Gripper. So yeah, I vote gamepad.

I’m sure it may look like stock Gingerbread, but in reality I’m sure there are some customizations deep inside to support the gamepad drivers, gaming DRM etc. I’ll wait for a dev to dig deep inside before calling it true vanilla Gingerbread. I’m sure Sony didn’t make it easy to simply rip the gaming platform out of the phone, which vanilla Gingerbread would allow, even if gamepad support had to be replaced with keyboard commands.

its hard to look at this phone as anything BUT a gaming device but all gaming points aside the fact that its running stock gingerbread is great! motorola should take note and stop pretty much everything they are doing

This phone only has a single-core Snapdragon processor and the screen is very poor. It is dimmish with marginal contrast even at the highest setting and in “normal” outdoor light is almost impossible to see compared to other phones. Battery also isn’t that great and the phone won’t last 24 hours with light use. It’s outdated before it’s even released, short of the gaming pad and stereo speakers. There are enough games in the android market, and psx4droid will run dumped psx games (that you own!) better than this can run them if you get a dual-core device.

Not to mention, many of you are screaming for vanilla Android, of which this definitely is not. In fact, with all the customizations that Sony had to do to get this stuff running on Android, it will be very difficult or not even possible to run custom roms on this even if it doesn’t have a locked bootloader.

I originally really wanted this phone when I heard it announced. I have a PSP Go and love it. The form factor is awesome. The more I thought about it, though, and with recently released / soon to come phones, even the hardcore gamer in me couldn’t legitimize getting this phone now. Common sense also kicked in that first and foremost this would be my communication device, and I’d rather have a slide-out keyboard than the gaming pad.

I get a phone to be used as a phone. I have a xbox 360 to play games like that on not a tiny 4 inch screen. I think this will be a good seller I just don’t see the point with psp’s and all that out why anyone would want a phone like this unless they are getting it solely to play games on and phone functionality comes second.
