Verizon Signs Off on Official Gingerbread for DROIDX? Time to Prepare for the Update

Somewhere on the internet you heard that Motorola was hoping to get an official build of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) for the DROIDX signed off on by Verizon today…oh that’s right, you heard it right here from us.  And according to our homie P3Droid, Verizon has done just that, meaning we are days away from seeing the build made available to our phones.  So how do you get your phone to a state where it can receive the update?  Well, a method has been provided that doesn’t include flashing an SBF back to Froyo.

A new build (4.5.595) has been made available and will apparently allow you to accept the update when it arrives.  I know that some of you just got done flashing 4.5.591, but P3 assures us that you need to jump up to .595 in order to get the official build which should be 4.5.596.  And if you are running either of the other two leaks (.573 or .588) then you’ll need to update to 4.5.595 as well.  Make sense?

Download:  Full Stock – No Root | Full Odexed | Full Deodexed

Update:  If you want to receive the official update, you’ll need to be on the “Full Stock – No Root” version.

Instructions:

1.  Drop the file on your SD card.
2.  Boot into recovery using the Bootstrap.
3.  Install the zip through Clockwork Recovery.
4.  Enjoy version 4.5.595 of GB.

Full support can be found at MyDroidWorld.

i have .588, and each time i try installing the full stock no root, it fails. ive read i need to flash back to a froyo build? if thats true, which file do i need to dl (any links?) cause i cant seem to find it from searching

  • kaymo

So I’ve never downloaded any of the hacks or programs you are talking about here, and I’m still on version 2.3.340. Is the update only going to be for 4.5.596? And if so can someone go into further detail as to getting there, because I’m utterly confused! Thanks!

  • http://twitter.com/DanielRun9 Daniel Mena

Just a reminder that if you SBF to .340 (froyo) you have to go to official .588 THEN to .595. To get the OTA when it is released

    • http://twitter.com/magicjboy magicjboy

The stock link is broken you will fail to install and have to sbf every time!

      • http://twitter.com/DanielRun9 Daniel Mena

I saw that. Now I finished installing .588. Do you know if I have to root that version in order to get stock .595?

    • Kevin L

Why do I have to go to .588 to get the OTA if I SBF’d back to .340? Won’t verizon just see I am on Froyo and OTA me?

    • Clay921

Am I missing something b/c I thought P3’s OP on this said one of the ways to upgrade to the OTA was to sbf back to .340?

  • Tarsis Brito
  • http://twitter.com/DanielRun9 Daniel Mena

Update – according to P3Droid you CANNOT go from froyo (.340) to GB (.595)

cant install this leak …. i tried over the old leak 591 and installation aborted… and i restore it to verizon froyo , installed mexico baseband and later install this leak over froyo and it cant start … whats wrong?

So the most important question is, will Tethering still be possible?
Currently its not possible, generally, with froyo, but if I freeze data manager apk with titanium, then i can tether freely. Will this be, or something similar, be possible on the new GB?

Hope this update fixes the problems with this phone, because I’m ready to smash it. I will never buy a Motorola phone again. I was very leery when I was buying, I should have listened to my gut. My wife has the HTC DI and it works great, no problems.

So, to use bootstrap, your phone has to be rooted? Your phone has to be rooted to go to this update?

  • Matt

NO_ROOT doesnt work, just says installation aborted. :(

I intended to send you this very small word just to thank you over again with your unique advice you’ve discussed on this page. This has been certainly tremendously generous with you to provide publicly what a few individuals might have supplied for an electronic book in order to make some money on their own, especially considering the fact that you might well have done it if you decided. Those secrets as well served as a easy way to fully grasp that other people have the identical passion like my very own to learn very much more on the subject of this matter. I’m certain there are thousands of more enjoyable moments up front for people who discover your site.

Do I use the bootstrap for the DX or D2? I just want to make sure before I screw around anymore. Thanks in advance.

    • Miguel

      D2

  • Chip chipperson

The last builds CRT animation, battery mod and 270 rotation confirmed working great, the build before bootlooped with it, thumbs up.

  • Jonjon2727

I don’t think I qualify as a stupid person, but by saying that we do not need to SBF back to Froyo, I thought that meant we could install over our current leak. I tried to do this and it appears to be incorrect, if that is what your post intended to imply. If you could clarify and possibly post some instructions, I can say it might help me stop wanting to kill you :)

My enjoyment of Gingerbread is a little blurred to be honest.

  • Anonymous

Aw, straight from Matt Moto Forums Manager himself:”Correct AnswerVerizon Has Approved Latest Gingerbread Build for DROID X:(DAILY RUMOR)I hate to even acknowledge rumors, but I also hate thinking about community members sitting up all night hitting the “check for update” buttons. There is no update scheduled this weekend — it’s just a rumor. And I have no additional information on timing, etc., so please don’t ask.”

blah blah blah my Droid 2 vagina has sand in it too but seriously @ everyone butt hurt over not having 2.3.3 the leak is very good and quite usable, I haven’t gone back to Liberty and am still enjoying it.

Not to be a noob, but what if I’m running rooted froyo with nothing much changed? Just unroot with Z4Root and I’m good?

  • Yo momma like it

can i flash .595 over apex alpha 2.0?

  • Vtxtank

Just tried…said op aborted. tried to reboot, now frozen. Can not get logo off screen. Tried pulling battery and going into recovery will not do that either.

    • Johnzenobia

I had the same thing happen. was trying to install and stuck at moto boot logo.bootloader then run sbf and wait for the official build.

  • Philip

Can I go straight from 340 to 595, or are there any intermediate steps? I’m new to the root/ROM/etc scene

    • Maverick1276

No, you have to be on some leak of gingerbread. would recommend the 588 leak as it udates the baseband. Follow instructions carefully, and above all, after flashing 588 and going to 595, do not rename the file to update.zip. When in recovery after going to select file go to downloads in the menu. Flash, reboot and enjoy. I think that’s where people are having the problems

      • http://profiles.google.com/marcopolo581 Marcus Johnson

So I’m confused. So do you have to be or NOT have to be rooted in order to update this recent one?

*And yes, I’m completely aware that it says “using the bootstrap” and into “bootstrap recovery”; however, I’m also confused because most of us are using .588, UNROOTED. So I guess, do we have to root our phones in order for us to gain the latest update?

        • Maverick1276

          YOU HAVE TO BE ROOTED

      • Kyle

I’m on .588 and been trying to get to 595. After install… stuck in Moto boot loop. Has anyone been successful going from .588 to 595?

  • YourMomsLooseTwaht

What is root? Can you get this at the local grocery store?

  • http://profiles.google.com/kirby.bryan Bryan Kirby

After turning off USB debugging, flashing this over 4.5.573 was very simple using ROM Manager. Just wanted the board to know that it’s not all negative news in coming from 4.5.573 upgraders.

  • Gdogmcstyles

This worked for me: (taken from the MyDroidWorld Forums)
Okay, SPF’d back to .340… activated… z4root’d, D2 bootstrap’d, installed original three .588 GB zips in order, rebooted, installed the new .595 deoexed zip, rebooted, and now the phone is back and running the new latest GB .595.

Is there a way to go from 588 to 595 without having to root 588 first?

    • Anonymous

only if you want to erase everything and go the long way using the Froyo SBF

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

Just use gingerbreak its too easy

    • Maverick1276

No, you have to have root.

  • http://twitter.com/iamHINTON7 GEINO

I need help. how do I get this .595 update. I flashed back to Froyo…do I root then use bootstrap? or do I upgrade to .591 then root + bootstrap.. can someone explain what to do please.

    • Anonymous

Root, D2 Bootstrap, update to .595

      • Maverick1276

You can’t update from Froyo to 595

  • SugaShane

All this negative nancy talk is making want to leave Verizon. Wait, no, I don’t have a strong enough will to leave Verizon. I think I would miss it like an ex-gf.

Deodexed worked fine over deodexed .591. Haven’t had time to see if I need to re-root. No problems. Hopefully it’ll fix that stupid crashing bug in the music player…

  • Mneighbo

From what I understand after reading what’s on MyDroidWorld, the upgrade path to
    4.5.595
isn’t available for those of us running .588

    • guest

yeah, but if you SBF back to Froyo and then load .595 it does the same thing and gets stuck on the white MOTO startup screen

      • Mneighbo

I’m not rooted. I did that on my MotoDroid, and have refrained from rooting my X. I guess I will wait and see if the update hits my phone.

        • Anonymous

you will have a very long wait then.

          • Mneighbo

            I’m ok with that. I have 4.5
            .
588 right now and I’m happy with it.

  • Jitsu56

ok so i have .573, i lost my root access when i updated to .573, how do i put this update on when my phone if i cant use bootstrap recovery??

  • RobKells

I don’t trust these, seeing all kinds of comments on the other forums that the ‘full stock – no root’ version is causing bootloops. Can someone link me to an SBF so I can get my phone back to froyo and receive the official update when it;s ready? Currently running .573

          Instructions
for DROIDX:*WARNING* – You will lose everything on your phone
by following the process. This wipes it all people.*WARNING 2* – This is NOT for the DROID 2. Those
instructions can be found here.*Note* – If you didn’t jump the gun and flash the non-rooted version
and are still running something like say, Liberty ROM, all you have to do is
flash the .zip file below just as you would any other ROM.Download: dxgbrooted.zip*Note Again* – If you have not already upgraded to Gingerbread, simply
download the .zip file, flash it like you normally would a ROM, and ignore this
          entire process.1. Download the
file from above and drop it on your SD card.
          2. Download the 2.3.340 SBF file for the DX. [Here]
          3. Download, install and open RSD lite 4.8. [Here]
          4. Plug your phone into your Windows PC and turn your phone off.
          5. Boot into the bootloader by holding Volume Up + Camera + Power.
          6. Your computer will likely install new drivers at this point.
          7. Once RSD lite recognizes your phone, hit the “…” box and choose the
          2.3.340 SBF file.
          8. Click “Start.”
          9. When it finishes and gets to 100%, power your phone off.
          10. Boot into recovery by holding Home + Power.
          11. When the triangle appears, hit the Search button.
          12. Navigate down to wipe data/factory reset, select it with camera, say
          “yes.”
          13. When it finishes, reboot your phone.
          14. Download z4root 1.3.0 and root your phone.
          15. Download DX Bootstrap and bootstrap your recovery.
          16. Reboot into recovery.
          17. Choose “install zip from sd card”, “choose”, then the dxgbrooted.zip.
          18. Your phone will now install Gingerbread with root.
          19. When you reboot, your phone will appear to bootloop. Let it.
          20. If it does it for say, 5 minutes, just pull your battery and reboot.
          21. To Boostrap after installing Gingerbread, you’ll need to use
          the D2 Bootstrapper.
          22. Enjoy!

Or you just SBF and wait for the OTA, then look for the root option… I don’t really see the point in getting Gingerbread before getting Gingerbread if I have to stay on stock gingerbread to get stock gingerbread. It sounds stupid
