Verizon Signs Off on Official Gingerbread for DROIDX? Time to Prepare for the Update

Somewhere on the internet you heard that Motorola was hoping to get an official build of Gingerbread (Android 2.3) for the DROIDX signed off on by Verizon today…oh that’s right, you heard it right here from us.  And according to our homie P3Droid, Verizon has done just that, meaning we are days away from seeing the build made available to our phones.  So how do you get your phone to a state where it can receive the update?  Well, a method has been provided that doesn’t include flashing an SBF back to Froyo.

A new build (4.5.595) has been made available and will apparently allow you to accept the update when it arrives.  I know that some of you just got done flashing 4.5.591, but P3 assures us that you need to jump up to .595 in order to get the official build which should be 4.5.596.  And if you are running either of the other two leaks (.573 or .588) then you’ll need to update to 4.5.595 as well.  Make sense?

Download:  Full Stock – No Root | Full Odexed | Full Deodexed

Update:  If you want to receive the official update, you’ll need to be on the “Full Stock – No Root” version.

Instructions:

1.  Drop the file on your SD card.
2.  Boot into recovery using the Bootstrap.
3.  Install the zip through Clockwork Recovery.
4.  Enjoy version 4.5.595 of GB.

Full support can be found at MyDroidWorld.

Do I need to do a backup? I know its always recommended but it’s not mentioned in the steps above.

  • guest

just wait….the .595 doesnt even work anyways….it just gets stuck on the white moto load screen

  • Nick

Please tell me that the Droid 2 is getting it!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZYFL32XY2HWUZCEXOPOFQMPB2E Mike Corbitt

I got the .588 update as the regular “Update.zip” that I installed by doing the whole “boot into recovery” method. Is there any way to get this
4.5.595 update converted to the “Update.zip” format?

    • Anonymous

no. The .588 was an accidental OTA that went out to someone. This was compiled and not signed for Motorola’s recovery.

  • Anonymous

I am running Liberty 2.2.1 custom ROM, overclocked, with all the GB features but not the bloat. If you are running a quality custom ROM there is no need to upgrade to GB. Actually, it would be a downgrade IMO. The best part of the Android is custom ROMs. Forget the OS updates!!!

  • Sorum Chris

I did this and now my phone is stuck on the “M” logo, what should I do?

    • http://profiles.google.com/chasehammer Chase Johnson

try to go into recovery menu and either reflash it or delete your data and try to reboot. Might have to SBF if all else fails.

  • Anonymous

After 4 SBFs and my first bad experience with flashing 1 of the 4 GB leaks. I would say forget this update and just SBF back to Froyo when the OTA is released.

  • jawhawker

maybe you need to be on .591 to get to .595?

    • Anonymous

      no you don’t.

  • scrage

Im currently on the liberty mod running froyo on a droid x, how do I bring my phone back so it can take a ota update?

  • Drew

can you flash this over ApeX2.0 beta?

  • jawhawker

thanks I am sure I can figure it out. donno if anyone else had this problem but booting into recovery is different for gingerbread i think. when you power up using the home/power way, you have to press both volume keys down at once instead of using the search button. power button is one that you use to select your choices.

  • Cdre2k2

when i reboot I get a blank srceen

  • 11knives

Im running .573 with root. Can someone please explain step by step what I need to do to get to latest build that will except update. Thanks!

  • jayhawker

    a couple of questions…

do we need to rename to update.zip

I am running .588 and flashing that worked fine but when I try to do this one (non rooted) i get the esignature verification failed..

I am sure I am making a simple mistake but any suggestions?

    • Anonymous

you do not need to rename it to update.zip and verification failed could be a bad download. Maybe try downloading the file again.

  • YourMomsLooseTwaht

Can you SBF back to Froyo from this leak?

    • Nathanbull33

Pretty sure you can SBF from any rom or leak you are running. Thats the whole point of SBF…

  • Anonymous

Running .588 – gingerbread without the new Verizon bloatware and its rock solid. I hope it does NOT update to .596. I do NOT want all of Verizon’s crap.

  • Anonymous

Thank you Kellex, now I’m certain I’ll wear out my menu button by the time the weekend is over…

  • doug

Has it been confirmed that the OG Droid will never receive Gingerbread?

    • Anonymous

Pretty sure the OG Droid will not see an official GB release. You would have to resort to a custom ROM such as CyanogenMod 7.0.2 for example.

    • Anonymous

      Confirmed? Not to my knowledge

More than likely? I’d say so…

  • gdubs

So if your running .588 and have no root then by just doing the no root .595 install it will work fine, correct?

    • Anonymous

no. You need root as this must be installed via Clockwork Recovery.

  • Cdre2k2

Which bootstrap do we use. DX or D2?

  • Albinosquirrel

I read all the comments and I am still a bit confused:
I have GB .573 not rooted
Do I need to .sbf back to froyo or
    can i root .573, D2 Bootstrap, flash .595?

If i need to .sbf, is there a way I can make a backup now? (with GB .573 no root)

    Thanks for the help!

    • Anonymous

You can can go your root method.

  • Skyskioc

HELP ! What does this mean for us runnng LIBERTY 2.0 ? What do we need to do to get this update HELP !

    • kcrang

sbf back to stock .340, root it, then flash new .595 (clear cache/data of course)

      • Anonymous

If I am running apex 2.0 should I just wait for the apex update, that would include the new GB changes?

    • http://twitter.com/CamDroid CamDroid

dude relax. youre gonna need to sbf back to stock froyo first off. im sure youll get the OTA from there. if you want more help go to the forums. and fyi, people arent usually inclined to help the people that are screaming HELP HELP…

      • http://twitter.com/JayAstonsINVSN Jay A

@twitter-30340497:disqus On liberty 2.0 can I restore on of my stock back ups and go from there? Never SBFed before kinda intimidated to do so

  • Sorum Chris

Do I use DroidX Recovery Bootstrap, or Droid2?

    • Anonymous

      Droid 2 bootstrap

    • kcrang

if you are already on leaked gb you should use droid 2 bootstrap, otherwise droid x bootstrap should be ok when flashing from froyo

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nick-Bright/100000693281757 Nick Bright

    Nice.
Does anyone know if installing the GB update will reset the phone completely? Icons/Apps/config settings/etc.
What kind of back end work do we need to do after the GB update assuming we’re stock.
    Thanks,

    • kcrang

always recommended to clear cache/data, that means you will lose all your data and apps… get titanium backup pro so you can backup everything

    • Anonymous

If you are already running a leak, and no themes (CRT on/off is ok) you DO NOT need to erase anything, just install over 573 or 588

  • guest

I have liberty 1.5 installed. What is the right way to put 4.5.595 on my dx?

    • Malonzo85

If you have liberty it should be the same method as flashing any other rom

    • kcrang

sbf back to stock .340 froyo and then root then flash .595 (don’t forget to clear data/cache!)

      • Malonzo85

I didn’t think you had to sbf back to froyo from liberty but I could be wrong.

        • kcrang

it’s always safer to go back to stock and then flash any rom

          • Malonzo85

Good to know, thanks. I put the first GB leak on my phone and then tried to flash a rom through clockwork back to liberty 1.5 and ended up having to flash back to stock using rsd lite anyways. Good (stressful) learning experience I guess lol.

        • Anonymous

from a custom theme its highly recommended you do.

  • YourMomsLooseTwaht

He forgot to add you must choose the non-rooted- version to accept the OTA update.

  • Deerslayer2008

    • Anonymous

If you update to GB via OTA Update then you will have to wait til someone finds a root exploit and releases the root method before you can root.

      • http://twitter.com/jhanford Jason Hanford-Smith

        Already done

    • http://twitter.com/jhanford Jason Hanford-Smith

Yes, but you’ll need to get hold of GingerBreak. z4root doesn’t work on GB

  • Opherb

Once again, where is the Incredible? Didn’t it come out six months before Droid X? How about GB for Droid Incredible?!

Im confused im on froyo when I first rooted stock froyo I made a backup so I cant flash back to stock froyo with root and get the update cause I was told you can still ota with root

    • John

you can. you just will lose root after OTA. no big deal

    • John

you can. you just will lose root after OTA. no big deal

    • Cunninghamrc75

Me im sticking to stock 2.2 to get the update. Doesn’t make since to me that you can be on gb and get a gb update. Its simlpy easier to go back to stock and wait. No issues

  • Xenos

I’m getting an error when I try to install the non-rooted version, something like [expects 3 args, got 4]

    • zdroid

I got the same and now i’m stuck at m logo

      • Xenos

        Same here…

        • Gdogmcstyles

same here…SBF’d and tried again….same error…..currently SBF’ing again…..anyone know what this is happening

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NEOS2HO2ITOC6GKUN2Q4DZHZCA Daniel

seems like the update only works if you are on another GB leak, NOT from Froyo.

    • zdroid

I got the same and now i’m stuck at m logo

  • SugaShane

It is about GD time! I was sick of hearing about all the leaks, and not the official OTA update.

  • John

HOT DAMN. Let’s see how quick VZW pulls this update!
(they’re on a roll lately with the OTA’s getting pulled)

    • YourMomsLooseTwaht

      3 months is my guess.

  • Jim Dandy

    X!!

    I have 4.5.573 un-rooted, will I get the OTA?

    • Anonymous

Did you read this all the way? Cause it says “And if you are running either of the other two leaks (.573 or .588) then you’ll need to update to 4.5.595 as well.”
      Just sayin.

      • Anonymous

I am not rooted, how do I install 595?

        • Anonymous

Read the articel it has instructions man.

Download: Full Stock – No Root | Full Odexed | Full Deodexed

Instructions:1. Drop the file on your SD card.2. Boot into recovery using the Bootstrap.3. Install the zip through Clockwork Recovery.
          4. Enjoy version 4.5.595 of GB.

          • YourMomsLooseTwaht

This is for people ALREADY on a GB leak, not Froyo.

          • Mneighbo

Actually, it won’t work for everyone:

The upgrade path does not include those who are on Gingerbread .573/.588/.591 – Make Sure You Read Below

        • YourMomsLooseTwaht

You must root, boot into bootsrap revovery and update the .zip .

            What app will root 595?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=665781964 Eric Gottlieb

Can’t wait for the official GB… But the timing seriously sucks. I flashed 4.5.591 and Apex 2.0.0 beta just yesterday!

    • anon

I did the same. And trying to SBF back to 2.3.340 just to get this OTA… honestly, not worth it. I’m just gonna hope Fab comes out quick with the OTA in a newer version of Apex

    • Anonymous

Now I understand why the updates are always so delayed at VZW – for BB, Droid, even iOS. Its not for quality, it to add Verizon crapware.

  • Anonymous

You mean we’re just days away from Verizon suddenly pulling the update. Ho hum.

  • Raptor007

How about GB on the rest of the Verizon line up, like the ThunderBolt, Fascinate, Charge (you have to ship a phone to get an update I guess), etc, etc.

Do we get 2.3.3 on the DX2 or did you scrap that too.

  • Stephen D

What about the Droid 2/D2 Global?

    • Jg127

Wondering the same here. It seems like a D2 update shouldn’t be far behind the DX, but I haven’t heard anything. Keep us updated on GB for D2/D2G please!!

      • Ted

Yes, I am tired of this site only reporting on phones they like or own. Can you please include some update information about all phones in the Droid line? It’s unlikely that your ‘source’ only has information on this one phone.

        • Mth2134

Easy. His source reports what is at least heard thru multiple channels. And he has a d2 so it has nothing to do with that.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

Then please, Please, PLEASE go to another site and stop coming to this one.

i as well think if we want GB, we will have to flash over to the leaked regular D2 ROM. sigh.

        • Anonymous

Yeah im not to worried about it i had a eris before this so im used to
workign with what i have and the R2 runs great for me. all the bugs just
make the phone have the R2 spunk lol.
