Question. Rooting the TB voids the Verizon warranty. What if one needs to restore the original OS to a non-rooted version to deal with a warranty issue? Is this process reversible, or is there an easier method to bring back th Verizon OS, or is that not possible

I have always heard about how rooted phones are so much better... help me out here I am completely in the dark when it comes to complicated (at least to me) things like this. I want to make sure that I back everything up on my phone and that it is possible to unroot if need be. So I probably sound really dumb but I am asking for advice before I screw my phone up. I have never attempted anything like this before. help?

I learned a lot about what was going on in Android by my first rooting with a linux install yada yada. Glad I did it- taught me vocab and the basic interaction with the phone. It also took a lot of time and since I am only rooting one phone per 9 months or so, I simply cannot remember all of the steps. Now I am glad to be able to avoid it and am grateful for the devs who put this stuff together..

I'm finally sick of ads, etc., on my Thunderbolt, and I want to root.

Per the XDA thread, this easy root method "...will only work with firmware versions lower than version 1.12.605.9."
After the recent OTA update, my tbolt is now 1.13.605.7.

I don't mind rooting manually or via basically any method, but I'm looking for some help as to which method is supported for my current firmware. Help / advice?

Hello, I just successfully rooted my Thunderbolt and installed ClockworkMod recovery in order to do a complete backup of my device before loading a ROM and over-clocking. When I tried to boot into recovery mode by holding Power Volume Down the device booted into the 1 click EasyRoot root screen and what to me looked like the root process starting again with no ability to navigate using volume up/down. I freaked and pulled the battery not wanting to lose root and happily the device rebooted fine.

But I am able to boot into recovery via USB cable and running adb reboot recovery via command line. I'm wondering if in one of my multiple attempts to root the phone before actually getting it done I copied the wrong files to my SD card thus causing my own problem? Or is there something I need to do to make booting into recovery the default action of restarting the phone and holding volume down?

Any help appreciated, and many thanks to the developers and contributors!

I get up to the "listing devices" but I never see the "bootloader" option appear. Am I supposed to reboot the device aka Power button and hold the Volume rocker? I rooted my Droid 1 all the time but the HTC seems to be throwing me. Could someone post screen shots so I know what to look for? Thanks

I had to run step 2 about 6 times before it worked. Had to then run step 3 about 9 times. Installed Super User and ROM Manager from the market and had to to rerun step 3 a few more times. After ALLL that reboot about 635293056 times and it worked fine. Seems to have a major lag sometimes and 4g drops connection randomly but no other issues I can see. Oh, and Titanium Backup can't access root permissions somehow.
