DROID X2 Pictures and Specs Surface: Dual-core Processor, 1GB RAM, and qHD Screen Included

We first reported that the 2011 DROID line-up would include a freshly upgraded DROID X2 powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, but now we have a set of pictures and additional specs to confirm all of that.  Site The Mobi Zone snagged an entire gallery of shots of the upcoming DX2 and you’ll notice right away that it looks no different than the original.  In fact, the only difference we’re seeing is the removal of a dedicated camera button.

The phone won’t have a front facing camera, but will have that dual-core power, 1GB RAM, qHD screen and the new Blur that we’ve seen on the BIONIC.  It looks like a beast, but the lack of a front camera is a little frustrating.  I guess Verizon won’t be including them in any of their non-4G phones?  And how could this phone have more RAM than the BIONIC?

Other specs:

  • NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • QHD LCD Display – 540 x 960 Resolution (Same as Motorola Bionic)
  • 3G Only – No LTE/4G
  • 8MP Rear Facing Camera (No Front Cam)
  • Froyo (Android 2.2) – Could get Gingerbread (Adnroid 2.3) before launch
  • New Moto Blur (Same as Droid Bionic)
  • FM Radio
  • Locked/Encrypted BootLoader
  • Launch in Q2 of 2011
  • No Hardware Camera button

Full gallery after the break.

Update:  We were asked by the source to remove the pics.  Sorry folks!

Motorola is doing nothing but telling lies. they are not going to come up with a solution for the bootloaders on their phones. I love my dx but will be the last Motorola device I buy. Hello HTC

  • Number01pup

So where are the real pics. This ones fake. I notice there’s a spec of dust on the screen above the search key. Its the same in the previous article about the dx2. Show us some real ones.

  • “Locked/Encrypted BootLoader” -> FAIL!

So basically this is presumably a 3G version of the Bionic minus the front camera but for some odd reason sporting more RAM. Maybe this means they’ll bump up the Bionic RAM? I can only hope. I wonder if this will be compatible with the laptop dock, which would be even more backwards. It wouldn’t make any sense for the Droid X2 to get it if it only has 3G when the Bionic has 4G, of course the X2 could be 4G, but then it would steal sales from the Bionic. All I know is that I am really confused on how this is all going to work out.

  • Love my Droid…but

Why not a front facing camara? That is the current requirement of all new phones!

      It is? I don’t require it 😛

  • bvazkez

With all the excitement, everyone is talking about the specs and how it looks the same, but failed to realize that this is just a pic of the ACTUAL DX and has had the camera button photochopped out! LOL. If you look closely, u can see the blurry spot where the camera is supposed to be. Real bad job at that.

  • dawabz94

another bootlocked , thus wasted hardware motoSh*t

  • Billyboy, boy, boy, boy, boy

Yep. I have to agree with the masses on this one. The slight improvements that are proposed for the DX2 are ridiculous considering that the push these days is for dual cameras, dual core processing and 4G to say the least. For the next model to have anything less than that to start with is crazy to me! I LOVE my DX and to think that the next model will NOT have a camera button, will only have basically more RAM (which isn’t really needed honestly) and dual core…I mean is that IT? So I’m supposed to pay for a whole new phone just for more memory and dual core processing? Will we have to wait until the DX3 to get these currently popular features? If anyone already has a DX and wants to remain on a 3G network then you might as well keep the phone that you have! Otherwise, if you’re really going to “upgrade” then UPGRADE. We might as well move on to the newer models (e.g. Droid Bionic, HTC Thunderbolt, etc.) and really take it to the next level, not to the next HALF level up IMHO. At least then, I can feel like I have a new phone, not just the same 1Ghz, 3G phone but faster.

  • I don’t get why they would not use DDR3 since it would be cheaper

  • Djenks24

After installing Pete’s Gingerbread on my wife’s OG Droid this weekend and switching my DX from rom to rom looking for something close, my next phone will not have a locked boot loader. It will have a front facing camera and a 4.3″ screen. Even if I have to build it myself:)

  • joe oberster

No dedicated camera button is a problem for me. That was probably in the top 5 reasons why I chose the X. I might have to move on the the Xperia PLAY after next summer.

  • So, I guess the theory with these phone manufacturers is to not give people everything in 1 phone. I don’t really understand that philosophy. Why not just include (Dual Core, Front Facing camera, 1 GB Ram, qHD screen, great battery) in one phone? Charge more if you must, but for crying out loud, every phone they annouce has some shocking weakness. No front facing camera on the Droid X2…WHY? Seriously, Why? And if the reason is so we can buy the Bionic also, then why can’t you put 1 GB of RAM in the Bionic? WTF

    NO 4G?!?!?!??!

  • Anonymous

Hahaha I love how it’s now part of the specs whether the bootloader is unlocked or not.

    • Chris Nimon

Yeah, as infuriating as it is I to had to laugh when I saw that.

  • Demacekpp

This confirms nothing. The pictures are identical to a Droid X.

  • Theflcracker

I really hoped for more out of the 2nd Gen X than this. Not worth the upgrade from 1st Gen X.

  • Bucho2k

  • Noshinemm

Hrrm, i already have LTE in my area but have no desire to pay anything more on my phone bill. 3g is good enough for me when im out and im on Wifi at home. FFC is worthless to me as well since i dont want to video call (which you have to have 4g, hence why its not on this phone) or take pics of myself.

I DO want a phone with dual-core but i DONT want to pay more for 4g. im glad they are making this phone.

  • Pnicuh

    kinda like blackberry refresh haha

  • SomeDooD123

Locked/Encrypted Bootloader… I’ll pass. I learned my lessor with my DX.

  • Seriously, this looks exactly the same. Sure it’s got beefed up internals, but what’s different about it on the outside?

  • I think that someone might just be trolling teh forums with these pictures. if moto really doesnt change the physical appearance any they are even dumber than previously presumed

  • Bprokosz

The Droid was a perfect size until you realize with a good case like Seidio or Otterbox it won’t be fitting in any jeans pockets anytime soon. I’m a guy who wears jeans and tees a lot so these phones are just too big for me and belt clips just get in the way all the time. I’ll stick with my Incredible for another year cuz I’ve had no problems with that even tho the Thunderbolt and Incredible 2 look fantastic. Side note—who cares about a front facing camera….really….stop bein girls or horny guys hoping to get more naked skype time and keep it in your pants till you get back to your college dorm laptops. I can just picture some idiot Glee-loving Justin Beiber crazy chick video chatting to her friend “Like so, like I’m sooo driving right now and like listening to like the best new song ever!” BOOOM!!!!!!!!! Totals my car and of course she doesn’t have insurance cuz she got rid of it to buy the millionth Twilight box set and pay for her new data plan. Ugh..

  • Brandonv Gillis

Does anyone else find this hard to believe?

I just cannot believe that Moto would put this out only slightly bumping the technical specs. And seriously….. Froyo??? is that supposed to be a joke?

Then again, Motorola has already proven that it knows how to run itself into the ground.

Why on earth would I waist my upgrade (I carry a Droid X) and sign a 2 year contract to get a slightly better processor, memory and screen?

    • DBK

lol And yet that’s exactly what so many people did when the D2G came out. 😛

  • Jeffrey Garcia

Clearly not enough of an upgrade from OG Droid X. Not buying this phone at all! The lack of a front facing camera, 4G LTE speed, no hardware camera button, and POSSIBLY Android 2.3 make me not want to get one….Too bad.

  • thanks for the info, just so you know, you made a typo:
Froyo (Android 2.2) – Could get Gingerbread (****Adnroid 2.3****) before launch

  • Tanviper

How can this phone come so close to being perfect, then fall flat on it’s face. No front camera?no LTE? Pass. I was waiting for this phone, guess I can only hope droid x 2 has everything.

    • Moocow96024

But this is the Droid X 2 you are talking about?

  • No FFC? Well, let’s hope 4G doesn’t cost too much. I was hoping the DX2 would serve me well in lieu of the Bionic, but the lack of an FFC is killing me. 1 GB of RAM is all fine and dandy, but I don’t see how on earth I’d use it all sans a laptop dock (No thanks, already have a dual-core Linux laptop, not spending $499 on a less useful one). And as the old computing adage goes: Unused RAM is wasted RAM.

  • Dave

Won’t it need 3.0 before launch, I thought 2.2 or 2.3 don’t support dual core

    • According to the rumor from Viewsonic, 2.4 (Which will be named Gingerbread just as 2.3 was, as it is a minor update) will add in dual-core support.

  • E.N.Nui

    Insert big yawn here

  • Anonymous

This doesn’t seem like it should be the DoridX 2 more like the DroidX 1.5

  • Tanujc

Motorola is literally stupid. The Xoom is pointless if the pricing is above the iPad’s. This DroidX2 looks exactly the same, loses a button, has no front facing camera, still has blur, and most probably has a lockedbootloader. As a former droidx user this phone looks as much of a fail as the last one.

  • Anonymous

Lol and you believe this? This guy just thought :hmmm I should make a rumor about the Droid X. takes out a camera. Ok.. Lets take a pic of the front of my DX and the back. Sends to comp. Puts stamp on it. Upload it. PERFECT

    • DBK

The devices ARE confirmed, regardless of how unconvincing the photos may be.

  • Anonymous

adnroid 2.3 should be android 2.3

  • Anonymous

I’m sure that I’m the first to call fake.

  • Xmoto

    Goodbye Moto

  • Soul_hammer

Yes please. No tiered web for me.

  • John Kuhn

Anybody else notice its running honeycomb but the picture says android version 2.2.1?

  • LunchBokz

Newsflash: Only nerds on Droid forums care about locked bootloaders. The rest of us just want a cool phone that works. No, I don’t want an i*hone. I love my OG Droid and will be sticking with Android. Not a developer so I love all the developers out there making awesome apps available. Love being able to install non-market apps.

  • uncle paul

Fail! Its going to take super amoled 4.3″+ 4g,nfs, and no locked bootloader for me to upgrade my dx

  • The screen looks like it could be 4.5 not sure though could be the angle of the photo it does look bigger as I did a comparison to my DX , that would be cool in my book.

  • I think OG Droid owners are excited about DROID 3.. hoping like hell for Vanilla with updated hardware so we can run newer versions of android

  • Stephen D

I’m unimpressed. Now how about a Droid 3 leak? *crosses fingers that it’s the stock unlocked device*

  • Anonymous

So Moto has come up with it’s own Iphone? Oh ok… HTC here I come.

  • Love everything about it except I don’t think they went far enough. There are enough new things out there that people are looking for that to eliminate a bunch of the more expected ones makes this phone a loser out of the gate. Double the ram, but no DDR2? No LTE? No FFC? Same BLUR? I spent the last 6 months rooting blur out of my DX, why would I start that again when the DX runs every app out there without the extra ram/processing power? I may just skip this generation and see who comes out on top of the unlockables. Nothing here that makes me want to rush out on opening day like I felt with the DX.

  • Don’t get me wrong I don’t think it sucks. I just would like to have both just like the Samsung Epic on Sprint… or HTC’s latest one that went to Altel I think… dont remember but with all the damn processing power being put into these mobile devices I dont think its much to ask to have the same 4G, front facing camera, 8MP rear, AND a qwerty keyboard. Just a little annoyed by it I guess

  • Scohking20

    No FFCAM no deals.

  • WTF is up with all these touch screen only phones! For christ sakes its like those of us that like a qwerty keyboard are getting the cold shoulder @ Verizon. The last good phone that dropped with a keyboard on Verizon was the Droid Pro and E3 didnt even showcase any… Really discouraging…

    • Nah, the DX keyboard rocks. Much easier than the OG keyboard imho.
