DROID X2 Pictures and Specs Surface: Dual-core Processor, 1GB RAM, and qHD Screen Included

We first reported that the 2011 DROID line-up would include a freshly upgraded DROID X2 powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, but now we have a set of pictures and additional specs to confirm all of that.  Site The Mobi Zone snagged an entire gallery of shots of the upcoming DX2 and you’ll notice right away that it looks no different than the original.  In fact, the only difference we’re seeing is the removal of a dedicated camera button.

The phone won’t have a front facing camera, but will have that dual-core power, 1GB RAM, qHD screen and the new Blur that we’ve seen on the BIONIC.  It looks like a beast, but the lack of a front camera is a little frustrating.  I guess Verizon won’t be including them in any of their non-4G phones?  And how could this phone have more RAM than the BIONIC?

Other specs:

  • NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • QHD LCD Display – 540 x 960 Resolution (Same as Motorola Bionic)
  • 3G Only – No LTE/4G
  • 8MP Rear Facing Camera (No Front Cam)
  • Froyo (Android 2.2) – Could get Gingerbread (Adnroid 2.3) before launch
  • New Moto Blur (Same as Droid Bionic)
  • FM Radio
  • Locked/Encrypted BootLoader
  • Launch in Q2 of 2011
  • No Hardware Camera button

Full gallery after the break.

Update:  We were asked by the source to remove the pics.  Sorry folks!

Wow, I can’t believe I don’t feel like a fool for snagging my X on release day for $80 on a 1 year contract. This would have been epic with a front-facing camera and 4g capability.

Also, I’m a bit surprised they didn’t decide to drop the physical buttons on the revision!?

  • Gottheguds112

Not that I don’t love my DX, but there could have been much more streamlining of the design…

  • Joker

Man people love to complain no ffc who cares that feature is overrated, no 4g who cares again most people don’t want 4g, form factor I know a lot of people that love there x and would by it again updated just a little. Better screen qhd, dual core, better ram this phone is nice, if it if not what your looking for than why put it down some.people have different taste so why try and force your opinions on us

  • Dellbx

No…not biting again. Not going with Moto for my next Smartphone

i see alot of haters, but i think ima buy this phone, im a dx user now

  • DP

Bionic or DX2. All depends on price niw.

    • DMBatCOFC

I’m just speculating, but I can’t see the BIONIC being listed at more than $250 on a 2 year contract, as the Atrix can be pre-ordered today with the $250 price tag… the Droid X is $200 now, so I’d imagine it’s the same price or higher… My conclusion: there will be a $50 price difference if there is a price difference at all.

      • DMBatCOFC

I stand corrected by… ME. The ATRIX is listed at $200, not $250… it says on the website that is the “Internet Only” price… my bad.

  • Mth2134

Sorry but I like it from a non unlocked perspective. I love my x. Better processor to game and watch movies on? Sold. Lower cost cuz no 4g? Sold. Use my phone the least to actually talk on so no front camera m? Sold. Why the hate? Some of us are not drinking the 4g koolaid yet.

Screw the DX2. No front facing camera and a locked boot loader. Not to mention it looks 95% identical to the Droid X1.

  • DMBatCOFC

    BIONIC

The camera button is a great feature on the current droid X, hope they didn’t really get rid of it :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610663092 Jake Karrer

Wow, It’s a Droid X. ZZZZ Give me the Thunderbolt VZW.

  • Floyd

That sounds like a fail to me.. Front facing camera is a must at this point, I don’t really care about the 4G myself.

  • Jawshua

You had me until you said no front facing camera. Bad move Motorola!

  • Mannie

Looks like we’re getting an S2 or something cool HTC might release this summer :/

  • The One

Does the Droid X2 come with the patented 1X/3G fluctuation problem that exists with the Droid X?

  • http://www.facebook.com/f4tron Moto Gabriel

Fake…is just the Droid X with Gingerbread update, not DroidX2.

  • Godfrey2009

Whats that hole on the back next to the “with Google” writing?

    • Alex

It’s one of the 3 microphones for the phone. It’s on the the DX too.

  • Emerica7194

maybe ill b able to get my DX i have now replaced with a new one since this piece of crap camera button is broke…..

  • ultravisitor

Has anyone even bothered to think for 2 seconds and realize that maybe one of the reasons it’s barely an upgrade from the original Droid X is because those who bought the original Droid X are still under contract? Seriously people, come on.

    • Droidor

Beg to differ, if the new DroidX2 had more to it, as a DroidX fanatic, I would have probably ponied up the full price to upgrade a la those crazed Apple fanatics do every year. Learn from the best Moto, if you put up a great product, you may actually deserve lines at the Vz stores as well. Don’t let this opportunity slip you by, you still have time to deliver the goods.

  • Doctor

Sorry Moto, Locked Bootloader = Never Buy for me!

  • http://twitter.com/MastaMarc Marc C.

Stuff like this makes me want to get the iPhone. lol Everyone I know with a Droid X goes “I wish it had a camera on the front to go with the big screen” And they’re STILL not putting a camera on the front? Motorola does not listen to it’s consumers at all. That’s one thing I like about Apple, even though they “censor” its users… the phone is already to the common users expectations.

It really is a letdown… Oh well, there’s still the Bionic, let’s hope they don’t mess that up too bad. And inb4 locked bootloader, some of us are willing to deal with that. I thought I would never buy a Moto phone again until I got my Nexus S and realized that the phone’s specs meant that it ran decently by itself and pretty much anything else I wanted to do could be taken care of just with root.

  • Anonymous

Wtf is this. It looks like a Droid X with different software. If its like this im not getting it I want something new. I’m getting a thunderbolt. Who’s with me?

  • Mr Carteratl

Is this the best moto could come up w/? its not worth buying, its the same way they did o.g & droid 2..All these companies are making look a likes of their own products, this shit sucks.

  • http://twitter.com/summerson Cameron Summerson

    Boo! This sucks.

  • Woobaker

True its not “innovative” but people are creatures of habit and when they like a product they tend to be repeat buyers.
If you dont have LTE in your area and they say the video chat programs need the higher speeds to work well then this may be the perfect phone for a lot of folks.

    Just a thought

  • The Minestone

Why on earth would they want to release this around the same time-frame as the Bionic? It’ll be a direct competitor by the same company…

  • http://www.facebook.com/joemoran Joe Moran

I’m starting to think that the only reason the original DROID was so successful is because Google played a large role in the development process. If you want to murder potentially great phone, just let Motorola work alone. Motoblur, ninjablur, gingerblur, I don’t care what you call it – it’s pointless and does nothing but muck up a perfectly good interface.

  • Dsim91

This just shows how lazy and cheap moto and Verizon are thanks for all your effort making it better

  • Anonymous

I’d rather have the HTC ThunderBolt 4G or the Droid Bionic.

  • Erick

Couple of things I’d like to point out.

While, I would agree with RAZR, KRAZR comparisons to a certain extent, there is something I think we should consider…
    1) Having a better phone hardware wise but the same form factor as the older phone would make accessories such as the car dock able to stay relevant. If I wanted to upgrade to this phone from the original DX, I wouldn’t have to toss away the docking stations.
    2) 3G only can help with (probably speculation here…) the ability to stay away from the potential extra charge to be on a 4G phone. Aren’t current speculations along the lines of having Verizon charge you an extra $10 a month?

I was excited for this phone till the locked bootloader, didn’t moto already have an altercation with Google about the locked bootloaders of other phones?

  • Guest

looks just like the dx to me

  • Anonymous

honestly I might choice the HTC Pyramid over this simply because I want to hack it

  • Anthony G

Maybe is not meant for the usa market.

  • Jroc869

Moto makes one hell of an original model, then follows it up with a lackluster sequel. This is the reason I went from the OG Droid to an X and now I will be moving on from the X to the Bionic. C’mon moto get with the program. You arent crapple.

  • Anonymous

Oh Man, waiti a minute I was still waking uip when I saw this, This is the DX2?? (Kept thinking D3 for some reason, Ok I am awake know lol

This is bad way bad Moto, like I said before Moto is known for the big let down as with the OG Droid when the D2 came out, we were all hoping for the latest specs on the D2 and what did we get??

A BIG SMACK in the face, and R2 – D2 ceral box surprise collection phone UHHHHHHH The DX2 should’ve been something special as well. And, how could it have more RAM than the Bionic plus NO 4G and No front camera???? This smells like an Apple idea :P

  • Anonymous

Why even release non lte phones anymore.

    • Anonymous

RIght with you man, this is really showing us that Verizon is going after as much of the market as possible, but to give it better RAM than the Bionic??? Pleasseeeee

      • http://twitter.com/TuxDotKing Avichi Suite

It’s actually got worse RAM (DDR2 > SDRAM), just more. As has been pointed out, unless half of it is taken up by Motoblur, it’s actually a bit of overkill.

  • David

Awful…. looks like I’m goin bionic

  • Anonymous

Like my man Jim Rome says “UHH OHH” looks like moto hasn’t learned and is catering to the people that can’t or is not in the area of the 4g/LTE service.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=742189391 Cameron Miller

All I want moto, is a blurless, pure google, unlocked experienced….im sure that is what we all want.

    • PrettyboyW

      Amen to that.

Good luck selling a locked down, 1GHZ, Front-Facing-Camera-Lacking clone. Come on Moto. Surprise us.

Droid3= Droid 2 with an overclocked processor

    • Mike

No. That’s the D2G. Rumors are it’ll have an upgraded screen to 4″ with qHD resolution and Tegra 2 for the processor. I really hope they make the D3 an LTE device, or else every LTE phone will be exactly the same. 4.3″ and all touchscreen.

After this I’m afraid of what the Droid 3 specs are going to be.

  • Frankxs

I agree that no 4G = no purchase. Also, about the RAM, dual-core needs more RAM just to run the additional core processor and to achieve the same relative performance as a single-core processor. That’s why I was surprised that the Bionic has only 512MB RAM. Compared to the HTC ThunderBolt’s 768MB – and single-core at that. I don’t see a real market for this Droid X2.

  • Inboy81

I have the Droid X I will pass on DX2 Im looking forward for the Droid 3.
