Napster has about 800,000 subscribers. It is owned by Best Buy who bought it about 2 years ago. It’s EXACTLY like iTunes except it doesn’t totally suck like iTunes! I mean, you get free downloads every month for your subscription and you get to listen to music tracks on demand in their entirety! None of the iTunes 30 sec preview crap. Napster has been legit since about 2007 or so and it is a bargain at $5 a month! For $5/mo you get 5 free downloads a month and 11 million+ tunes to stream on demand in full… so YES Napster is legit! And YES Napster is awesome.

Earl, “they” in this case is Best Buy. Best Buy bought Napster a couple of years ago. “They” may not think you are stupid… but I do. Sorry, Napster, unlike the free Pandora, Slacker Radio, et al., fall under what is know as “FairPlay” licensing which means you can’t repeat, can’t search for specific songs, and can only forward a limited number of times. On the contrary, Napster allows you full access to 11 million+ songs in their entirety on demand. Another reason Napster is worth every penny of the monthly fee.

Here’s one last caveat that makes a Napster subscription a no-brainer, even for guys like you… For your monthly subscription, you also get the equivalent in free download credits every month. That is to say, if you pay $15 every 3 months like I do, you get 15 download credits every three months as well. If you buy music on Amazon, iTunes or any pay download site, Napster is a deal. Unlimited streaming and a 1-to-1 dollar for dollar credit for music each month which essentially makes the unlimited streaming FREE! Try to get full access to music streaming (not just 30 sec clips) and free downloads every month from Amazon or iTunes. I’ve been a subscriber to Napster since it went legit and it’s the best $5 a month I’ve ever spent for music!

Again, Napster may not think you’re stupid, but I do. Or maybe you’re not stupid. Maybe you’re just disinterested in paying artists for their music as you likely find yourself in the “freeloader” realm of music downloaders.

I’d love to hear your response. Napster is awesome. Really.

I have been a Napster to Go member for a few years. Problem I always run into is finding compatable devices. MP3 player are not so hard, but phones are a different story.

I have an older LG VU that I used for a while, it allowed me to use the phone to store all the MP3's I wanted (or could fit on micro SD). I know it is not steaming, but I think the streaming sound can be comprimised. I used it with a bluetooth stereo headset while mountain biking, bonus was I could answer the phone if needed.

From what I understand is that the phone needs to be able to play subscription content on WMA format. I'm not sure what Android has for a media player. I did get excited by the new BB Torch because it runs Windows Media, but ask someone at a store "does it support subscription content" and they get the deer in the headlights.

My opinion is that the "purchase" sites don't want to lose traction to the "subscription" sites. And the largerst purchase company (itunes) is owned by the market leader in devices. You do the math .

My argument for subscription. I hear a song I like and download the album, expose myself o the whole thing. Purchasers buy the one song they hear and thats it. I think the artist would prefer people hearing it all, maybe coming to a show and buying a t-shirt !

5 bucks says half the complaints regarding the existing apps are related to people who don't realize how slow 3G is and they aren't torrenting on thier own home wifi

I've had a Napster account for years on my PC. Much cheaper to use than iTunes. I've had the Napster app on my Android for several days now.

I used Napster for about 3 years now and I'm happy with it , between my wife, 2 of my kids and myself we have about 700-800 songs on 3 different computers and 3 mp3 players, all different playlists. There are some new releases that you'll have to pay extra for . I may be missing something better but for the $10.00 dollors this works for me .

I use Napster at home, ever since it was taken over by Best Buy. They have most music and for $5 a month you get 5 downloads and unlimited streaming. The cost of $10 a month though is too high to use on a cell

I used to get my music from IRC to get my illegal music way before napster. I actually never used Napster.

I signed up and am trying it out. So far so good. Although some of my artist searches result in "not found" so I would call their collection somewhat limited. What you get with the paid service as opposed to free internet radio services (that I have tried), music playback, set playlists and artists, and you basically get to choose what you want to listen to which is huge for me. I will try it out for a month or two and decide if I use it enough to justify the $10 a month. I spend about that much on itunes a month, and I quickly get tired of my library.

Droid OG with CM6 and P3 1ghz kernel. Napster app runs quite well.
