I'm one of the 170 that got my phone last week. The Droid X is amazing but I wouldn't get too carried away on this device. I have two complaints:

1. The battery life may be a bit better than previous phones but it's not perfect. If you configure you're phone with mail/ social networking/ GPS etc: You'll find that the battery fairly quickly. I saw a stat that the phone has 220 + standby time. Not really.

2. The phone can't be rooted so if you're planning on tethering your PC or you'd like to install the latest Cisco VPN software, you better look for another phone. Otherwise you're stuck paying the $20 extra per month for the mobile hot-spot feature.

I have been using My Droid X (Including the mobile hotspot) since I received it early on 06July… and have had no issues, Ive used every possible feature, and havent seen any problems… I wasnt ever told not to activate my devise either… so whats up with this article?

I. Bought a moto droid for my girlfriend the other day it was 99 dollars with two yr plan and with tax it came to 150 . They said they charge u the tax of the retail 599. n add it to the 99 dollars. So my question is how much will droid x be without a two year plan. I bought the phone at best buy

I don't understand why VZW is saying this. I have a Droid X and it's fully functional and working just fine. I've been testing one out for a couple days now and as far as I can tell, everything is humming along nicely (including the mobile hot spot app). Perhaps it's less of a "goof" if those devices aren't activated until the 15th?

But I also wonder about those who have won X's via the Twitter hunt. Can they not use their devices until the 15th too?
