Rumor: Google Sending Froyo OTA to Motorola DROID Test Group

We just received word that an internal testing group at Google has been receiving Android 2.2 OTA updates for the Motorola Droid 1. No other additional info was given, but these are steps we like to see since most Droid users are impatiently awaiting the Froyo love. Plus, this at least shows that we may still be on target for the “late July” time frame from Verizon.

No one wants to see another Android 2.1 update situation, right?

And let’s not forget that you can have the new FRF83 Froyo build on your Droid right now should you choose to root it.

Does anyone know if 2.2 will have the new motoblur ui built into it. I want to check it out….Also I would root BUT I really don't want to mess with all of my apps. I finally got them where I like it!

I'm kinda wondering about that too since the Droid 2 is supposed to have the new moto customizations on it, will they try them sneak them onto the Droid 1 with this OS update. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Question: Is FRF83 any different or better than FRF57? I really like the rom im on now and dont want to switch unless its worth it

It is all about stability… Leaked builds tend to be less stable than ones based from source.

Billyhouse's post is the very reason I don't root. I keep reading too many posts about after rooting problems and also Droidlife has been taken over by you rooters! There is wayyyy too much geek tech terminology on here that makes us everyday Droid owners too uncomfortable to root. Besides if you root why do you have to keep checking here everyday for another update to your root software The-Other-Ray? If you ask me it sounds like rooting opens the door to drama djenks24! Kellex keep up the good work with this site but don't forget about us “normal” people! Ha Ha!

Every one of us that rooted was scared to death we were gonna brick our phones. I was more nervous than I was in 6th grade when I copped my first feel. Kellex would never forget about the stock users. thats why he has all the app reviews and wallpapers and such.

Because I'm fickle and I like all the pretty themes that the different roms provide that I'm now able to change to.

One day I feel stock, another day I feel blueberry. Depending on what I'm wearing that day, I like to accessorize. Pink theme just doesn't go well with green pants. Anyone else relate?

It's kind of addicting to load new ROMs onto your phone. Sometimes it's like a whole new phone, it's fun. I don't have a Droid yet but I've been loading different ROMs onto my Omnia for a while now.

I dont know if this has happened with anyone else but for some reason my latest version of clockwork recovery will not boot into recover and install any roms. I've had to go back to an earlier recovery to get it to work. I'm currently running abugless froyo but i had to use clockwork 1.8.1.8 to do it. Anyone else had this problem.

yes ive had this problem since froyo roms started coming out. Ive just been using 1.8.1.4 ever since and has worked just fine….weird iKnow

sometimes when flashing the image something goes wrong and your phone can't get into recovery because it got a bad image. Since I've had that happen to me once, I've learned to flash and reflash the recovery image until i feel like it worked without so much as a stall.

so one question i know some of us are wanting to know. how hard is it goin to be to go back to stock for those of us who want to get the update? cause im thinkin bout all the stuff ive done to my rooted droid and i dont think its goin to be an easy 123

Its not very hard, once you can find the right instructions and files. It took me several hours to find it this weekend when I rooted, installed jrummy's froyo and then backed it out. Too many of my apps were unavailable in the market to stay on froyo at this time for me.

This is pretty good..I'm still glad I'm running Cyanogen to tide me over to when it's actually released, but if a Cyanogen Froyo Rom is released, I may never go back to stock

It is being worked on as we speak…It will be released as Cyanogen 6.x.x.x. Patience is key.

I concur. Before I rooted I would check this site like crazy looking to see if there was any update regarding the release of froyo. But now that I'm rooted, I check this site like crazy for new rom updates! Man it's addicting
