Spec Comparison: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. HTC One vs. Nexus 4 vs. iPhone 5

 GALAXY S 4 Product Image (12)

Oh yeah, it’s spec comparison time. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is all sorts of official, so let’s see how it stacks up against the HTC One, LG Nexus 4, and iPhone 5, three of the most talked about phones of the last year. One one hand, we have HTC’s new flagship which the company hopes will save it from extinction. Then we have Google’s baby, the stock Android-toting Nexus 4. And finally, this wouldn’t be a proper Samsung Galaxy comparison if we didn’t toss in whatever Apple’s current phone is.

Ready?

S4 Specs

  • joejoe5709

Well props to Apple for being the lightest anyway… Lol.

  • Daeshaun Griffiths

The scratches on the HTC One would piss me off more than the build quality of the GS4.

  • jsingh07

    i

  • Rodeojones000

Why isn’t more being mentioned regarding the fact that Samsung just pulled an iPhone 4S on us all?

    • Austin Warren

      because they didn’t.

    • Smithers

Besides Bionic, you are the most tiresome poster on this board dude. You need some new material.

  • speraider430

Already hearing people complain about the plastic back. The irony is I’m not sure we will even have glass screens in the foreseeable future. I’ll take something that won’t shatter when dropped because there are two kinds of people in this world. People who drop their phones and god damn liars….

    • Rodeojones000

Call me a liar then. Never once have I dropped my release-day-purchased Galaxy Nexus that I’m still using.

    • Gary

Yeah, a PC backed phone vs. the N4 with a glass back that cracks when you breathe on it. I’ll take PC for 1000, Alex

  • Tay

There is rarely any NEED to upgrade from a phone that was hasn’t even been out for a FULL year yet. I don’t get why people feel the need to always ditch their phone so soon.

  • Bionic

iphone is the clear loser, haha

    • the guy

      AGREED

    • Joe

Wow, imagine that, your first post that doesn’t have “x-phone” in it. Congrats

      • Bionic

        X phone

  • http://www.facebook.com/derrick.mcgalliard Derrick McGalliard

ill tell yall 3 things thats not a gimmick and it will come in handy everyday. Give me that awesome and loud sound on them dual speakers, HTC ONE. Give me a phone thats durable and built ford tuff lol, “ALL METAL” HTC ONE. Give me that beauty of a slcd3 screen with the 468 ppi that is truely awesome in the sunlight, HTC ONE. all day

  • the guy

better speakers, higher ppi, same processor, made of aluminum, and no physical home button. how is the s4 captivating everyone? all they did was throw in gimmicks. just like the s-pen is on the note2.

    • Austin Warren

Smaller screen is higher ppi, beats sucks, processor isn’t the same in all of the phones, plastic is just as good, more features, better camera, bigger screen. bigger battery and removable.micro SD slot. HTC ain’t winning

      • mike

Plastic is just as good? You just proved you’re nothing but a idiotic fanboy.

        • Austin Warren

It is durable. Aluminum dents quick. Nice try.

        • Joe

Be careful here, polycarbonate is actually really tough stuff.

      • 1ofdakoolkidz

Why,is everyone saying the GS4 has a better camera does anyone know anything about cameras, the one x had the best camera of any phone, they invented burst shot on a phone.

  • jsingh07

Every Android devices runs with a quad core bla bla bla iphone sucks. Half you just look at “quad core! 5ghz!” and say OMG SO MUCH FASTER THAN iPHONE!! Seriously the s4 was a let down. I’ll keep my s3, half the “features” are gimmicks that 95% of you will never use. I think HTC won this year, lets see what the Nexus line does.

    • the guy

THANK YOU. finally someone said it. the s4 is a bust

  • Manthas

I don’t know that this is likely to be my next phone coming from the GNex, but I think Samsung is doing a good job of adding on to the base of what Android provides. I’m sure there will be plenty of Android purists who will respond along the lines of, “Not vanilla, not buying”, but from a pure consumer standpoint, I think this is likely to sell very well, and I can understand the appeal.

  • Austin Warren

If anybody can give me one legitimate reason why any other phone is better, I’ll shut up. Bet you cant. Good luck.

    • Bionic

because its an iphone………therefore it sucks

      • Austin Warren

        not even close.

    • the guy

better speakers, higher ppi, made of aluminum, and no physical home button. BAM

      • Austin Warren

i responded to your comment above. Your comments are invalid.

        • the guy

so just cause it has a “13 megapixel” camera its automatically better? you sound like a kid. im gonna wait for the shots. besides the ones camera out paces every smartphone on the market currently in low light performance.
and completely same internals except for the battery for the most part i think it has 2 more sensors. also the one has a higher base memory capacity. 32gb vs 16gb. sure you could buy a sd card but i would rather buy the phone for the same price as the other and not have to worry about an sd card as 32 is plenty enough.

          • Austin Warren

            I meant the features.

          • the guy

the majority of the features could be ported except for the air view related ones. but nobody will port them cause no one really wants them. they just use them to justify there sammysheep purchase

          • Austin Warren

Nobody wants them? lol, that’s funny. Even without the features, the SD slot, bigger and removable battery and bigger screen are justifiable for a purchase.

          • the guy

yeah. regular people just see apps. why do you think the iphone has done so well? they will try those features out then never use them again. and with the sd card youll need it 199 buys you 16 gigs vs 199 buys you 32 for the one. and the bigger removable battery? youll need it. searching for signal is gonna kill a smaller one.

          • Austin Warren

So familys wont like the dual camera? People trying to watch a movie wont like the smart watch? Smart scrolling? Hovering? Are you even listening to yourself?

          • the guy

okay dual camera….. well done samsung you successfully copied LG. (google optimus g pro) also that can be easily done by downloading an app. and all those “smart” features…. yeah i see people getting frustrated cause they dont “just work” and turning them off. so yeah the s4 has nothing

          • Austin Warren

Samsung had it first…. and you know it doesn’t work? All the awesome features on my Note 2 work

          • the guy

with which phone? and why did they just show it? why note before?

          • Austin Warren

Becuase it’s on the S4. the Optimus G pro isn’t even out

          • the guy

yea the s4 isnt out either. but it was announced as a feature on the optimus g pro about a month ago i believe

          • Austin Warren

And we know it’s theirs why? Samsung could have had this a year, or even LG

          • the guy

okay just stop your starting to sound like a really bad sammy sheep.

          • Austin Warren

            You sound like an idiot.

          • Tim242

You’re calling Samsung out for copying a G Pro feature, when it is a Note II clone?

        • mike

This Austin guy is a blind SammySheep. Just like the iSheep out there

          • the guy

i think you may be right. im beginning to hate samsung just as much as apple now

    • Jason Bittner

S4 will have a locked bootloader…… will cost 400$ more than nexus….. TouchWiz
      theres 3

      • Austin Warren

Easily unlockable. Put a new rom.

        • Jason Bittner

          thats not known yet

          • Austin Warren

It has been on every phone.

          • Jason Bittner

ok sooo, other point.. the one about the cost / contract

          • Austin Warren

Doesn’t matter. They all cost the same.

          • Rodeojones000

Not true. I can buy a Nexus 4 without committing to a contract for hundreds of dollars less than a full-priced S4. The alternative is buying the S4 subsidized which means, if you’re a Verizon customer, losing unlimited data. Far from costing the same.

          • Austin Warren

Nexus 4 is nowhere near in terms of quality of the S4, or HTC

          • Rodeojones000

The ridiculousness of this comment further illustrates your fanboy attitude.

          • Austin Warren

            No

    • TourGuide

      Radios? – for example Motorola

      • Austin Warren

Nope, they are good. Radios don’t make someone buy a phone either.

        • Rodeojones000

          Wrong.

        • TourGuide

People who don’t take that into consideration are either – a.) not giving a crap about the phone feature of the smartphone b.) new to the smartphone game c.) not spending their own money

I’m in a 4G area and my S3 spends more time in FREAKING 3G than in 4G! That’s BULL! It drops calls, etc. If I had the money and better options at the moment I’d jump ship – no question.

      • Tim242

That’s BS. I was at my mom’s today. My Note II and her rezound were on 4G constantly. My step-dad’s RAZR M was stuck on 3G. I had to restart it to get 4G back…2 minutes later, right back to 3G.

    • Jason Bittner

      attempt to troll #2?

  • http://www.facebook.com/roy.harrigan Roy Harrigan

This is the Samsung Galaxy S 3 S. SMH They pulled an Apple with this crap.

  • TourGuide

It’ll just end up having a radio that sucks ass just like the S3 does. I don’t care what features or specs it has. I’m going back to Moto radios as soon as they have a decent phone in the offing.

    • Austin Warren

Radios are fine. Not as good as moto but better than others i’ve tried.

      • the guy

really? i couldnt keep 1 bar at my house with my old s3. actually downgraded to a razr and it made a world of difference. have consistently 2 bars now

        • Austin Warren

sounds like it’s due to terrible reception. not radios

          • the guy

no i have moderate reception here with anything usually had droid bionic and iphone 4s before the s3….. no such problems. it was the crappy s3.

        • Tim242

Moto bars are inflated. The dBm is the same.

      • TourGuide

I’m coming from the OG Droid and I can tell you the S3 radio is a disappointment in comparison. My particular situation is the perfect test case. I can drive a mile in any direction from my house and I get a better signal. With the OG I could make and receive calls from the house. The S3 – forget it. It is a stark contrast from what I have experienced.

  • http://www.facebook.com/roy.harrigan Roy Harrigan

I’m not impressed. Especially since the phone looks exactly the same. The only features that impressed me were the camera ones. Besides the lack of a microsd slot and the lack of a removable battery the One looks better.

  • Ghee Buttersnaps

See a lot of comments saying no need to upgrade from the S3, this is true, there is no need to upgrade to the 4 from the 3, Sammy already has those folks; they want the millions they didn’t get with the S3.
Take a great phone, make it “better”, grab everybody else you haven’t gotten yet. Worked pretty good for Apple, probably will work for Sammy.
My Note II is safe, for now, until I get a good look at the III, unlimited helps with that decision too, lol.

  • the guy

After what i just saw…… HTC i will be your savior if you let me. put cheaply built samsung in there place, and not a apple fanboy but in terms of build apple puts them in there place too

  • mike

    TouchWiz is garbage.

    • the guy

took the words out of my mouth. im waiting til they leave android. just so i can watch them crumble

  • Detonation

S4 basically the same size as the One, but a .3″ bigger screen….nice

    • http://www.facebook.com/derrick.mcgalliard Derrick McGalliard

yea but they dont give you dual speakers either to go with that land scape, im sure there sound quality is still years behind the htc one

      • Diablo81588

But..but..you can connect to FIVE other S4s and make SURROUND SOUND!

        /MIND BLOWN…

        • http://www.facebook.com/derrick.mcgalliard Derrick McGalliard

ok while that is true, do you have 5 other friends to creat that sound, lol, aye bruh im not tryn to really compare features i just wanna point out how I can benefit from the htc one more than the galaxy s4, because really if you not around another galaxy then all that Sbeam Sshare S whateva stuff becomes, well a waste of a feature, no benefit to me dude

          • Diablo81588

I guess you missed my sarcasm :)

      • LionStone

I’ll gladly give up a bit of the screen (5″ DNA) for those front speakers on the One.

    • Elliot Kotis

But the HTC ONE has a better screen. (468 ppi vs 441 ppi)

      • Detonation

I’ll take a bigger screen over a small increase in pixel density. The visible difference between those is probably negligible.

  • Apocalypse

I definitely don’t like its design.
To say more, it’s not a design at all.
After LG started to copy SAMSUNG, SAMSUNG should have to change add WOW design immediately.

I don’t like HTC One or Blackberry Z10 “design” full of mistakes either.

    BUT.
On hardware and SOFTWARE side SAMSUNG has done really ENORMOUS job!
I can’t even believe that an average consumer can handle such a WOW amount of added features.
    KNOX: must have.
mysterious and a bit creepy Shoot+sound feature.
    Air View.
Amazingly LIVE features Smart Scroll and Smart Pause.

GALAXY S4 is a FEATURE-rich beast, no doubts.

    Hardware is amazing.
Big enough battery in a SLIM case.
    16/32/64Gb + 64Gb microSD = you can have your 128Gb Galaxy S4.
    HEXA-band cellular and 4-standard Wi-Fi are tech-stunning.
Full HD Super AMOLED is a marketing mistake, SAMSUNG should have to launch a new brand for the NEXT display. But tech-wise it’s not the NEXT, it’s SuperAMOLED, so Ok. *okface*

the whole presentation was a bit too long.
    ——————————————————-
    I want black GALAXY S4.
Truly hi-end design would make S4 a killer device.
    ———————————————————-
Now: waiting for Motorola Xphone, the dark knight of Android, the pure Google star.

    • Tyler

I agree with most everything you said. I too am waiting to see how everything unfolds between the X Phone, the S4, the One and the next Nexus, I’m not eligible for an upgrade on Verizon till the end of the year.

  • Dave

People need to realize that current market products arenear the tip of the technological iceberg right now. You can’t just reinvent the frickin wheel every 9-12 months. Relax and enjoy what is keeping Android ahead of the competition.

    • Tay

Agreed. People want the next best thing for every single phone released.

    • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

Just look at the chart! The iPhone is trying to act all big and bad but paper doesn’t lie and neither do specs…every android powered device up there runs a quad core processor clocked at close to 2ghz (minus the N4) and an HD screen (S4 and One with a Full 1080p display) while the iPhone is just there with a dual core, sub 720p display and 1gb of ram!

  • mike

I’m going with the One. The plastic terrible build quality of the S3/S4 bugs me

    • Austin Warren

It’s quite durable. Dropped it 5 feet on concrete and was perfectly fine. My old iphone shattered at 2 feet.

    • Daeshaun Griffiths

They say the S4 is more sturdy than the S3. What are going to do when that aluminum gets scratched? have u seen the back of some iphone 5’s? Put it in a case, then you dont see or feel the exterior of the phone.

    • Joe

Guess you haven’t worked much with polycarbonates. They’re actually ridiculously tough to break.

  • Austin Warren

Didn’t realize how many apple fans we had in here

  • possomcrast

The only thing that i’m interested in this phone is the new processor, the Snapdragon S4 is speedy, but it slightly lacks graphically. While this seems nice there’s nothing I really need from it.

  • JakeS41

Can’t wait for the One. This confirmed it!

    • Austin Warren

Might as well get a flip phone

      • ApplesNAndroids

        Troll

        • Austin Warren

          nope

      • Tim242

That statement proves not only your ignorance, but your blatant stupidity.

        • Austin Warren

          it’s a joke lol

          • andrew galvin

yea right austin you are a blatant samsung troll. you post this BS on every thread

          • Austin Warren

Show me a phone that’s better. Oh wait, you can’t.

          • JakeS41

So – the HTC has higher pixel density, a screen that will not over saturate colors or burn as easy, more usable camera features and you’re comparing it to a flip phone? Do explain sir.

          • Austin Warren

Higher pixels cause it’s smaller. More usable camera features? False.

          • JakeS41

Thank you for the lesson on why the density is higher. I don’t have gorilla hands and prefer the 4.7″ – And yes, more usable. Zoe vs Samsungs Albums or Pic with Sound – not even comparable. I don’t buy that people are going to buy photo albums through their phones when there are many more (better/cheaper) options that are more customize-able online. Try a post with substance one in a while rather than one-line trolling.

          • Tim242

According to whom? You? Those features are gimmicky at best, bloat at worst. I haven’t used my S-Pen since week one. I fell for the hype once. Never again.

          • Austin Warren

You can’t be serious Tim. You’re smarter than that.

          • Tim242

Sure Austin. Good luck getting anybody to believe that one. You troll too much, dude.

          • Austin Warren

If you can’t see the blatant features samsung has over everybody, well then, i feel sorry for y’all

      • JakeS41

Austin my friend…you’re well known to be a Samsung fanboy. Thanks for your opinion – and I don’t care.

        • Austin Warren

I’ved owned 2 samsung devices. 1 HTC product. 1 moto product, and 1 LG product. Definitely not a fanboy.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dominick-White/642535026 Dominick White

Sorry Austin, but yes you are a fan boy, much worse than some of the apple ,windows or blackberry fan boys put together , that i have come across

          • JakeS41

Want a cookie? Your current actions prove otherwise. And you still refuse to post anything with substance. Try it – bring some intelligence to the debate. I am sure you have some…

          • Austin Warren

Just look at all the god damn features. holy fu*k

          • JakeS41

Thank you for proving my sarcasm correct.

  • http://czonin.deviantart.com/ Corey Zonin

Anyone know any details on the US processor?

    • the guy

most likely a qualcomm chip. reports say either snapdragon or exynos 5 based on region

      • Austin Warren

I’ll probably order international and go on tmobile to get octal

        • the guy

i think ill stick to the htc one. im sorry but build quality is just over all better and screen has a higher ppi. plus the us version will get the qualcomm chip again. yea sure seems like this is samsungs most important market. they have screwed us twice now. why do you people keep buying into it?
they can obviously have exynos with LTE(note II)

          • Austin Warren

higher PPI because it’s smaller LOL

          • the guy

by point 3 inches. you think people will notice that much? nope

          • Austin Warren

            Yes, obviously.

          • the guy

i mean the regular people. not nerds like us. you show regular people a flashing light on a phone and its “cool” to them.

          • http://www.facebook.com/derrick.mcgalliard Derrick McGalliard

and the cost of waaaaay better sound and quality

        • Diablo81588

You do know its not a true Octa core right? Its a quad core A15 with a low power quad core A9. Performance will not be any better.

  • Prateek Singh

The S4 is a pretty impressive

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Pratik-Holla/1041154510 Pratik Holla

Whats really going to hurt apple is iOS6. ICS is more capable that apple’s latest and ICS was released 2 years ago. How could they market facebook integration and twitter integration as major features of an OS? Its laughable compared to Android. Atleast google ads a .1 instead of a full 1 to their release when they know its minor.

  • Kevin McDole

I guess I’m alone in wanting the HTC One over the S4.

    • Austin Warren

Well enjoy the less features, non removable batter, 4.1, and that ultragimickpixel camera

      • Mike

        Holy Samsung fanboy lol.

        • Austin Warren

being a fanboy means loving good features then so be it. If anybody did it i’d be all over that device. Too bad nobody can

          • mike

Plastic crap, weak radio, horrible looking TouchWiz. I’m waiting for a new Moto maybe HTC

          • Dave

Where have you been? Note2 radio trumps anything Moto has released, so there’s no reason to believe they are going to degrade radio performance from here on out.

      • DoubtfulOne

I predict that gesture ‘wave’ thing is going to piss a lot of people off with it’s ‘sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t and sometimes it does things I didn’t ask it to’. I’m not feeling it….

        • Austin Warren

Every feature on touchwiz now works now. That device was a test one and wasn’t the final product.

    • Jason Bittner

Ive owned a Thunderbolt… no more HTC for me

      • John Ippolito

Same. The One is very intriguing to be but I dunno if I can give them more of my money after what I’ve gone through with this phone.

        • trwb

The Thunderbolt had issues because Verizon pushed HTC to bring it to the market before it was ready, as the first LTE phone.

          • Tirionfive

What about the rezound? That TB 2.0 steaming pile of crap. HTC has lost my trust, and to make matters worse, they lock their devices.

          • http://twitter.com/JayGood259Ozz Kris

Ill put the rezound against any other dual core phone, ill bet it wins. The long wait for ics was unacceptable tho

          • Tirionfive

Nope. Definitely not against the Gnex.

          • Kevin McDole

I have the Rezound, I’m pretty happy with it.

          • Joe

Htc has a history of producing devices with faulty software. The htc one x had less issues and was a worthy conpetitor to the gs3. I dont trust htc just yet, but out of all the android conpanies i think they have the best shot at taking competing with the s4(not taking into account the nexus line)

          • Daistaar

First LTE phone in the western hemisphere went to MetroPCS and I believe was a Samsung device.

        • hbhbmbgb

And the plastic garbage is no better than DNA ,either

    • ApplesNAndroids

Kevin, if HTC had better key/button arrangement I’d be all over the One. Beautiful device.

      • Kevin McDole

I know, I found that to be the only disappointment. Almost swayed me away from the phone.

        • S2556

the reason I don’t like the One is because of 4.1 and the future slow updates, battery is a little smaller than I wanted. But what kills it for me is they lock their phones down like crazy! If they didn’t I could enjoy what HTC has done with the hardware (they did a great job and I love the front facing speakers) and put on AOKP or at least a Sense that has been ripped apart by the amazing devs over at XDA to get it functioning the way I want it. Also it frees you from the perpetual carrier and OEM update wait. You know sense 5.0 on KLP is going to be a while back of the announcement.

          • Tech Pro

HTC Moto and Sony are the 3 companies have official boot loader unlock tool. Help customers to secure their devices is their responsibility. Unfortunately, US carriers are their customers and very powerful. They have to lock boot loader upon their requests. Even Nexus shipped with boot loader locked.

          • lolo

You can always get the HTC one developer edition. It comes with a unlocked bootloader

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dominick-White/642535026 Dominick White

i would go for the HTC One, if i didnt already have my Droid Dna

    • JakeS41

      Nope…I’m with you!

    • callumshell1

Actually I think most people are leaning towards the One.

    • Manthas

Personally, I like the build / form factor of the One better, so I understand. They are solid competitors to each other.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hector-Abreu/1055552222 Hector Abreu

I’m with you there. The S4 is amazing but I want the One.

    • Tim242

HTC is a sinking ship. You will never get an update.

    • dylan84

Definitely not alone. I want the One. Couldnt care less about the S4.

  • http://www.facebook.com/walmes1 William Almes

just found out that the HTC One maybe coming to Verizon.

  • joe

This phone looks amazing and the new camera options are sick! Monster battery, hope it’s not a fast drainer.

  • Iron_Catastrofe

I don’t mind that they didn’t make too much of a change to the look of the phone. More features, a bunch of spec updates to the phone, launching on android 4.2.2? Sounds good to me

    • Apostrafee

And they kept the removable battery and expandable memory unlike other devices…to me that’s huge

      • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

Thats the most important thing now especially with carriers going to limited data plans!

      • Joe

Yeah after everybody on here was clamoring for SD card slots and removable batteries…you think they’d be all over the S4. But instead, they’re complaining because the body doesn’t look “different” enough and the specs aren’t “that much different”. Sheesh

  • dan

s4 sounds awesome cant wait to pick one up

  • cb2000a

It pretty much walks all over the iphone 5. Apple just gets more dated every year.

    • EvanTheGamer

Totally agree! The iPhone is a one hitter…that’s it. They ONLY improve upon an around dated formula. They will never come up with something that is truly original. Like perhaps coming out with a phone that has a different name other than….iPhone 5/s/6/7…I will grant them that…they do know how to count.

  • http://twitter.com/jcardona1 jcardona

You forgot to include all the ridiculous sGimmicks. Is this even an Android smart phone anymore?

    • ApplesNAndroids

      Agreed.

    • Austin Warren

Let me know how that ultra pixel camera is working for ya. Btw, stop following everyone as if you’re cool. You’re not.

  • Scott Martin

    snore

  • EvanTheGamer

The Samsung Galaxy S4 wins by a landslide!!

    • Austin Warren

      Yessss

    • Tirionfive

Lets see what the x-phone has in store, that is if it gets released this year. I am leaning towards the next nexus. Hopefully it’s on Verizon.

And just to quell discussion, Don’t get butthurt because the XPhone does exist. That google exec probably didn’t know what he was talking about. I’ve read rumors we will hear more in May.

      • EvanTheGamer

I don’t care whether the X-Phone in fact does exist or not, makes no difference to me. I won’t be buying it. I don’t buy Motorola phones anymore, not since my beloved Droid X.

I’m all in it now for the Galaxy or Nexus branded devices. I have a Galaxy Nexus now myself, but I’ll be getting the SGS4 soon. Then after that, probably a Nexus. Then after that? You guessed it, a Galaxy, etc.

So…yeah, don’t really care when and if ever the X-Phone really does get released. I’m sure LOTS and LOTS of Moto fan boys will all be celebrating in the streets when that day arrives…if it arrives.

        • Tirionfive

I was the same way once. Till VZW shipped me a Droid Razr M in place of my crappy rezound. Motoblur is almost non-existent, the device is really good for being a $100 phone.

I also have the G-Nex, I am going to wait till the dust settles before I choose to wait for the next Nexus or just jump on the Galaxy bandwagon. I am hopeful that Verizon gets the nexus this year.

If the Xphone ends up being pretty cool i might go for it. Motorola phones are very solid and tend to be pretty stable (other than the fact that they have encrypted bootloaders). No HTC One for me, I had my days with HTC.

I do have to ask; why the hate against Moto? I can realize you hated the Droid X, but I am positive that anything with Google in it is going to rock.

          • lolo

A nexus on Verizon will be the biggest mistake you’ll ever make. Need I remind you of the GNex? Unless they leave it as is like T-Mobile and the n4.

  • Austin Warren

LOL S4 is the only one with 4.2.2 besides the N4. Can’t believe people want the HTC One and be behind.

    • Tim242

With skins, you don’t know what you’re running. Both Sense and Touchwiz look like Gingerbread.

      • Austin Warren

still nice to be up to date. and have a removable battery.

      • shawn

so when it says 4.2.2 on the about screen it really could be gingerbread??

        • Tim242

You totally missed the point. With the overlays, you miss most of the upgrades. It would not matter if it were 2.3, 4.0, or 4.2.2. It all looks and acts the same on skinned phones. 99.9999% of buyers couldn’t care less. PS. I sell phones for a living.

      • Rodeojones000

        Indeed it does.

  • http://www.facebook.com/scott.contrera Scott Contrera

please compare with th s3 from last year so we can see what’s been upgraded…and how much?

  • John Ippolito

People are seriously upset or not impressed? This is the best/most powerful phone ever made. Can’t wait to own it.

    • Austin Warren

I know right. Don’t even have to be a fan to notice that.

  • J Dub

So upon release of the S4 they should also release Android 4.2.2 for the S3.

  • deesnutzz

So are people gonna sh*t all over this for looking the same as the sIII. Which I don’t think it a bad phone at all. But I do feel that they should offer more choice for a smaller phone

  • confusiedddddd

Why didnt they announce what chipset it will have?!

    • Lactose_the_Intolerant

Because different markets/carriers will have different chipsets…

  • John Jenness

    The S3 wounded Apple…the S4 is the kill-shot.

    • ApplesNAndroids

I fail to see the GS4 as the “kill shot”. When apple releases their iPhone 5S or 6 I’m sure playing fields will be leveled. However, if samsung had used the Ones build materials, I may be speaking a different tune. I see no major reason to upgrade my GS3 to the 4. Samsung pulled an apple update, and people are ok with it because it’s samsung.

      • Austin Warren

nobody wants a 4in phone. sorry. They also added 100 more features then what apple did

        • ApplesNAndroids

I didn’t say that, did I? And if sales are correct there are plenty of people who want a four inch phone. I like Androids screen sizes, but it’s kind of sad people discredit apple just because they’re not so much as a tech fan, as they are a fan boy.

          • Austin Warren

people who buy apple dont know anything about technology

          • http://twitter.com/tjavalone tj avalone

Austin. Is Samsung paying you more than little Jeremy?

          • ApplesNAndroids

Lol say that to my Macbook Air that everybody tries to replicate, or my 27″ iMac. You’re just a terrible troll. People like you give tech nerds a bad name. Apple iOS and Android can coexist! Who would have thought.

          • John Jenness

MacBook Air was innovative for laptop design…but it was released 5 years ago and the current version of the iMac has been around even longer…and a bigger monitor isn’t innovative.

          • ERIC REED

Actually it’s a new lighter thinner monitor..

          • John Jenness

Listen, I am an Apple fan, owned and designed on them for years…but ever since they turned their focus to becoming a media-juggernaut what has suffered is their ability to create.

          • john

So 85% of Googlers don’t know anything about technology. Android is developed on Appple computers clown.

          • ERIC REED

            I know quite a bit about technology…

        • http://twitter.com/tjavalone tj avalone

dude..name one feature you’ll use more than a day

      • John Jenness

We’ve seen it over the last 5 years…what sort of new technology has Apple created? Computers? Phones? Software? They have not innovated anything in years.

        • John Jenness

          Oh wait, new plug-in adapters.

        • ApplesNAndroids

I’m not disagreeing that Apple has “fallen behind” in categories, but to call a phone this early that discredits the iphone this early in the game is silly.

          • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

Please see the above chart! The S4 and One run hardware with twice the specs (dual vs quad, 1gb of RAM vs 2gb of RAM, 1080p vs sub 720p displays)!

          • http://twitter.com/HighwaySnobbery Robbery

I’m an Android fan and sport a Nexus 4 myself, but you have to take into consideration that different OSes require different specs. There will be instances where a dual core trumps a quad. There will be times that clock speed is almost pointless. There will be times where more RAM actually slows things down. It’s all about optimization for that particular OS/App. In the computer world more and bigger is more marketing than real world performance. The iPhone is one smooth operator, even with those ‘lessor’ specs. It’s because it’s optimized to run with those specs. It makes a huge difference. Some suggested reading: Anandtech.com (especially back from the Athlon XP vs. Pentium 4 days.) Yeah I’ve been in this industry for a while.

        • S2556

          new ear buds! haha

      • Kevin McDole

        Agree, they pulled an Apple.

        • John Jenness

The list of features this phone has that NO OTHER phone has is impressive. They seem to be creating innovative software that ties into robust hardware. The smart scroll and smart pause alone is pretty remarkable.

          • Jason Bittner

except LG is doing it also, Samsung just announced it first?

          • Kelly Caffrey

I understand where you’re coming from, but also what samsung brings to the table with their devices. They add these features that are insanely innovative ( works great, but not perfect ) and LG nor other manufacturers have implemented . I told myself the S4 is all hype and nothing new except hardware ( pretty much a faster s3), but after watching a hands-on, I have to admit it tops the S3 a lot.
Too bad i plan on staying with my nexus 4 :x

          • asd011

if your talking talking about the s4 topping the s3 feature wise then you should know that the s3 will get all these features in the future

          • Jason Bittner

not all, they said some are tied to hardware, others will be ported

        • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

But think next year with the S5 they will completely reinvent the device (if they pull an Apple)!

          • Kevin McDole

            True.

        • Trevor

Yep the iphone 4 to 4s equivalent. Hope samsung goes bigger with the note 3 no pun intended

      • eric martinez

Dual cam is not an apple update.

        • https://www.facebook.com/aaron.williams.125 Champion1229

Didn’t you hear….Dual cameras is coming in iOS 7…they just had to wait for Samsung to come up with the idea first!

      • Dave

So by your logic, if it was aluminum it would have been a kill shot, but not how it is? That’s bad logic.

        • http://www.facebook.com/tpinion Trevor Pinion

That’s not bad logic at all. Hardware is an essential essence of smartphone appeal and some how.. Samsung through marketing, heavy hardware and software features has overcome the fact that their build quality has always basically been at the low end of the spectrum.

          • Dave

Sorry if I came on jerkish. Unfortunately for HTC, carriers don’t perform a drop test when a customer checks out a phone for the first time. The trend has definitely swayed towards performance and features over build.

      • Tyler

At least if you had an S3 and an S4 next to each other you could tell them apart, put a iPhone 4 and 4S next to each other and you have a guessing game for which is which. This has new hardware features so I dont see how they pulled an apple. You cant hover over an S3 screen to interact with it, plus the S4 is thinner, and has new internals.

        • http://www.facebook.com/WolfeDude Joey Wolfe

You could technically tell a iphone 4 and iphone 4s apart, the attenna bands were in different spots, lol.

        • t0md0

dude.. if you’re going to say they pulled an “apple” at least compare it from the 4S to the 5. which is what samsung did. they made a bigger screen, upped the specs, added some new features etc. but mostly looks the same. just like apple. once again, it’s evolutionary not revolutionary. you have to admit that’s what samsung did. the HTC One.. now in terms of looks and aesthetics, takes the effing cake. hands down.

          • Tyler

I never said they pulled an apple, in fact i said the opposite. There isn’t a phone that has been revolutionary in my opinion since the first iPhone/Android phone. Each new phone that comes out, ups a spec, makes it the norm but the rest is the equivalent to other devices that are coming out. Looks of phones change but there isnt anything revolutionary about it ever. Maybe the X Phone will change things up and be revolutionary.

      • NemaCystX

Either way its win win for consumers because THIS is what drives innovation and better products, COMPETITION

      • PaggyP

What GS4 upgrade Samsung would have made which would have personally satisfied you? Battery, screen, resolution, processor, lots of camera features ?
By your logic, even S3 should have been called S2S :)

    • EvanTheGamer

Agreed! The SGS4 will be the final nail in Apple’s coffin! Good riddance to bad rubbish.

      • ERIC REED

That is until Apple releases their next iPhone and records profits again. Lets hope this just pushes Cupertino to make their next phone great, which will push the other guy!

  • tay

Coming from having a Razr, I wouldn’t mind this.

    • Trevor

I wish there was a new microUSB standard that let you plug it in either direction like the Lightning connector. That would be really convenient.

      • NemaCystX

If there were, it wouldn’t be microUSB because they would have to give it a whole new shape and name since USB is a standard.

besides I think Apple put a patent on that reversible USB cable thing /sarcasm

    • http://www.facebook.com/s.alkari Shams Alkari

the lightning connector is essentially a microUSB, same technology, only the connector is different. But your right it is deserving of it own label.

      • Geoff Johnson

Except the Lightning connector is proprietary. Only used by Apple devices, and the cables are only made by Apple.

      • Cory Larson

The lightning connector is not the same technology as microUSB. Lightning allows data and separate audio and serial data transfer. It’s an 8-pin connector vs the microUSB’s 5 pins. It can also carry more power to charge devices the like an iPad a bit faster. It’s proprietary software, and the reversibility of the connector is due to an in-cable chip; USB is an open standard.

    • EvanTheGamer

Who gives a rats arse? Oh right, you do. Damn iSheep and their lousy iSheep device.

      • http://www.sk1wbw.wordpress.com/ Wayne Williams

Comments like this make me hate Android and its user base. I have an iPhone 5 and a Nexus 7 and it always makes me laugh to read comments like this posted by kids in-between classes in middle school. The same “sheep” comments can be made towards Android users and Samsung users, right? And I take it you have owned Apple hardware, specifically iPhones, in order to judge that they are lousy?

        • http://twitter.com/gabrieleromero Gabriel E Romero

I have owned them, although not lousy, I do feel like they are outdated (4S). I still LOVE my Galaxy Nexus and that’s old.
