With more extreme methods of compression comes the CPU needs. As it is, the OpenGL ES functions for texture compression are really good. From looking at all the assets, 100mb+ is a little lean. If this were on XBL/Steam, it'd easily be in the same ballpark as far as space is concerned.

Just like what was noted in the last opinion posted here on Droid Life, I really thing Google has the power and it seems they are beginning to get the inspiration to make mobile games jaw dropping! Its just something that is gonna take some time because after all Android has only been publicly available on devices for about 5 years and the iPhone for about 6 years while it took the PC gaming industry decades to reach this level of extreme performance.

51.5 FPS on my Nexus 10 not bad. Let's not kid ourselves though...this "game" is nothing but a tech demo. Once you get enemies on screen, artificial intelligence, guns, explosion effects, all the other things that go into an actual playable game, this would run a lot closer to 30 FPS and even less on lower-powered devices. It's cool, but disingenuous at the same time.

Welcome to 2 years ago.

I really wish Google had taken gaming seriously enough that I wouldn't need something with over 2x the processing power of an iDevice in order to get something to run almost as good as it does on lesser iOS hardware.

The hardware out there is great and Google's made some great strides in software. When it comes to gaming, Google is catching up. The software stack for making games on Android is still terrible. iOS isn't great by any means either, the OpenGL client driver is absolutely awful on ALL mobile platforms. I have yet to see any driver that works worth a damn when it comes to mobile.

We're getting there, though, and I'd like to see Google take the lead on this.
