The OTA ICS update fails on my Droid Bionic after the long DL (many times). I have factory reset twice, unrooted, battery out reset, and this is the error every time during install:

    assert failed: apply_patch_check (“/system/bin/mount_ext3.sh”. “1810bb2cd607e2f6cfbeafa1f8bb3a8962d60b7”. “3a8382950bd4a6226349607d099afcd93653d48”)

    E: Error in /cache/Blur_Version .5.9.905.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip
    (Status 7)

The exact same error occurs when I try to install the update via Recovery with Blur_Version.5.9.905.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip on the SD card.

    Any suggestions?

I posted just after you did. Check out my post above and that should solve your problem. Oh, if you don’t know how to get your phone into fastboot… turn the phone off, press ONLY the DOWN volume button and the power button at the same time, hold for a second or two, then RELEASE, only then will the fastboot screen show up. Touch NOTHING else on your phone, simply plug it in and you’ll see the phone is recognized. Open Rsdlite… and so on…

  • Is it me or is this muggphuggah rolling? I I am a Motorola fan but the only thing stopping me from getting the HD is that it doesn’t have a car dock yet….i use it alot because i drive trucks…

  • This is fantastic news for my roommate who just got my Bionic after I gave up and switched to the GSIII

  • SouthWestPayDay

    this is so great!

  • Chris Hollenbeck

    Blah, Blah, Grumble, *Thunderbolt ICS*
    Blah, Blah, Grumble, #%&#*&!!.

  • JoshinPearland

updated yesterday. drains battery. trying to get use to all new things. am i missing something or can i not change to 3G. 4G sucks the lift out of my phone. other than that at this moment no complaints.

    • MattInPDX

To toggle 3G/4G download the Thunderbolt 4G toggle in the Play store because it is now hidden like a mofo.

  • I went from the .232 leak back to 902, then 905 and then to the 4.04 update…It’s working at 100%. Love the phone and its such a powehouse. Happy Happy, HAPPY

  • Chris Fama

All controls for the notifcations lamp have vanished from my phone after the update. I am no longer getting a blinking light for new email! Help desk recommended a third party app to restore this key function. IIt’s best to run the update while hooked in to a wi-fi connection.

  • mshahan

This phone just keeps sticking it to me. Wait forever for the update….and it constantly fails. On top of failing 3x yesterday, it took 4 hours to download the update each time. You would think it would cache the file or something. Factory reset doesn’t work, just plain ridiculous.

    • MattInPDX

Need more info if you want help. Are you rooted? Running a ROM or stock? Etc.

      • mshahan

Just got off the phone with Verizon and they are going to send me a factory replacement. It failed a 5th time on me just a bit ago. Was running stock. It would try and run the update, but would fail about 20% through and an exclamation point with a triangle around it would come up…then reboot and say it failed.

        • MattInPDX

          Were you rooted?

          • mshahan

I was not rooted. Probably should have been haha.

          • MattInPDX

Hmmm, odd. Yeah, sounds like your phone has issues then. 🙂 Glad they are sending you a replacement.

  • Mat

Had to reflash 5.9.905 before the OTA would install. Other than that the only problem I’m having is SwiftKey 3 isn’t working. I downloaded it when it was Amazon’s free app of the day (back in the SwiftKey X days). I reinstalled from Amazon market, but when I launch it I just get a message “Unfortunately, SwiftKey 3 has stopped.” Anyone else with similar problems?

  • dshel61

What should rooted owners do before installing this?

  • flosserelli

Welcome to 2011, guys & gals.

    Better late than never, right?

  • griffin

I starts the update for about 30 seconds, then stops and reboots. HELP!

    • MattInPDX

Need more info. Are you rooted? Running a stock or custom ROM? Etc.

  • bakdroid

To all the morons on here that have no idea what they are doing, do some research! Flash does work, you just need to reinstall it. You can disable most apps that you can’t uninstall you just have to uninstall all updates under app management and then disable. If it won’t download, reboot and make sure you are on a stable internet connection with a full charge. If apps have issues or you have lag, factory reset and clear cache. Then reinstall apps. DO NOT use any sort of app backup as apps will corrupt since the framework changed. Again people, do some actual research before you come on here bitching.

    • Quadpit

@backdroid There’s no need for name calling and trolling posts on here. The point of a comment section is to help people out and not insult them because they are unaware of a feature or solution. I am sure you get help from people in technology that you are not as knowledgeable in too so try to be helpful and not insulting to people who are just frustrated and looking for help.

      • bakdroid

There is a difference between people asking for help and the trolls bitching that the update is crap. There are plenty of posts out there on what to do with ICS since it has been out for almost a year. I am so sick of this society of everyone demanding that people just give them the answers. People need to do some actual research and use their brains instead of just waiting around for someone else to do it for them. That is what is wrong with this country! Everyone looking for a handout, refusing to put any effort into things, and then bitching about it. This age of “entitlement” makes me sick.

  • luke

This is what we’ve been harping on about? Thoroughly unimpressed with ICS. Had I about the disappearing flashplayer i wouldve stayed on GB. Sure it looks cool and games like Asphalt 6 now work buttery smooth, it’s pretty blah to me. Anyone else?

    • bakdroid

Go back to apple douchbag. You are clueless!

  • DonDemon

With all the problems everyone is having switching to ICS I’ll wait a few days before I try uping to ICS. I already gave up on my Bionic. Just holding out until Galaxy Note 2.

  • Jeff m

still nothing and unable to retrive thry settings – just keeps saying “checking for available updates ” any suggestions?

  • whistle

what happen to cut n paste n still no screen capture?

    • bakdroid

  • vindizo

    It’s like having a new phone…NICE!!

  • I’m loving the crisp graphics- but HATE that I’ve lost flash player after upgrading. Had i known that I would lose flash player capability- not sure i would’ve upgraded. I could really use a ‘Tips & Tricks’ for Adjusting ICS on Bionic

  • Can someone tell me why this fabled “Disable” button doesn’t show up in App management anywhere? I’m supposed to be able to go to Settings>Device>Apps>ALL and select an app…. and there’s supposed to be a [Disable] button with a confirmation dialog.

    There isn’t. What the crap?

  • l8kerjuan

i was able to update, but now that i have my text messaging is not working!!! why why why

  • Anyone else having issues updating? I can’t get it to install. Tried 5 times already. Fails at 25%

    • CJ

I’m having the same exact problem. I tried FDR and stock recovery, battery pulls…. I’m thinking it’s because I rooted at one point, even though I think I lost that with an OTA update(?). I still have the superuser app but when I try to do the one-click unroot program that I used to root it, it tells me that I’m not rooted. I have essentially zero experience with digging into phones so I’m in need of some help here please.

  • Tried updating 5 times to no avail. Even factory reset twice. Still no lucky. Really aggravated

  • Dante

Started my update at 11:00 AM and now at 6:35 PM it’s in it’s 3rd hour of installation. “Android is upgrading” is at the top of the box and it says it’s “upgrading media database”. I’m not upset that its taking forever, i’m upset that i haven’t been able to use my phone for anything other than a paperweight for the past 3 hours. Anyone else have this problem?

    • Silver Veloz

Did you get it to work? I had the same exact problem. Then it just stopped. I pulled battery to re-start or whatever we need to do and It looks like it upgraded, but can’t get a lot of the basic functions to work. Now to figure out how to try the install again if I can’t get things to work. Oh, I was on stock .905.

  • Tripod

The ICS update has failed 5 times so far on my Bionic. I have a simple rooted Bionic, nothing fancy installed. I have rebooted, battery out reboot, factory reset via Privacy settings, still does not install. Downloads take 40 mins or more, then the phone reboots and goes back to current OS and “Update failed” message or reboots, shows the progress bar, then ! mark after progress bar goes about 1/3 of the way, then it goes to OS and “Update failed” message. Any suggestions?

    • imaleaper

No idea, brother and I having the same problem

    • jeesung

unroot? OTA updates are notorious for failing if the OS has been messed with.

    • Quadpit

Same problem here… I rooted only so I could run Titanium backup and have done an unroot, multiple factory resets, and even downloaded the update and tried installing it from my SD card. The same thing happens where it will start installing for about 10-15% then I get the “!” mark and it boots back into GB. From what I have read on other forums there are a lot with this issue and Verizon is aware of it. I am going to wait a while and see if they put out another update as some unrooted Bionic owners are also having this problem. Planning on getting a Galaxy Note 2 soon anyway because I need a stylus for my business so will tough it out. 😉

      • in the same boat.

  • bob

after ics update, email problems with Aol and battery life shorter other than that 4.0 is awsome

  • dshel61

What does this do to root?

  • CaptM

Just wondering why my previous post was removed?

  • MGardnerDA1235

can’t send text messages, downloads have slowed to a crawl…can’t add app groups to home screen…more sluggish…the menu option to turn off 4G is disabled…all apps are non-responsive when starting up for the first time…what gives???

    • MGardnerDA1235

no more airplane mode toggle widget…

    • l8kerjuan

same problem here.. any ideas of a fix.. i already cleared my cache… and nothing!!!

  • john

I is the extended network I’m running on prevent me from getting this upgrade or is it because I live in Kensucky now?

  • I’m running a side-loaded leaked version of ICS on my Bionic, version .2_223. How do I fxz back to .905 so I can pick up the official version of .246? Can anyone help me out?

  • me08053

I didnt know id lose flash 🙁

  • striderdotcom

My friend wanted me to post that he received his ICS update and it was about 348mb. I myself am so glad the bionic owners were able to finely get ICS 🙂

  • Am I the only one having horrible issues with this update? I’m having freezes, multiple crashes since updating, Handcent wont work, tweet deck wont work, stock text app wonk load, lock screen freezes, lock button wont respond sometimes, notifications tab disappears and freezes. Overall slowness and freezing. I would greatly appreciate some feedback/help on this one. Extremely frustrating. 🙁

    • l8kerjuan

same issues here, havent found any fixes yet.. beyond frustrating..

      • Was terrified at first cuz it was so awful. After MULTIPLE reboots and removing reinstalling stuff that “just didn’t seem to work” it’s fine now….. mostly.

    • JJC

Matt, have you come up with any solutions on Handcent? I can’t open it, and if I open the native Text messaging app, my phone crashes. Awesome.

      • eugene

Uninstall, power cycle, and reboot. That fixed Handcent for me and my phone is running perfectly. I think handcent push was the problem.

  • JBartcaps

Anyone else’s Apps not working properly?

  • Jason E.

Is it just me or did I hear the Angelic Choir when it booted for the first time? 🙂 It’s like getting a new phone.
Now I realize going from 2.3.x to 4.0.x may have been difficult, but 4.0.x to 4.1.x should be a snap, right?

  • Congrats Bionic owners! VZW must be having a good day. Just downloaded the ICS update for my Spectrum. Did the Bionic update come in two parts?

    • Technique_AL

      Nope…Just the one.

      • l8kerjuan

is the second part supposed to be the part that works??? this is a joke…

  • John S.

Am I still the only person that hasn’t received the update yet? Lol I feel left out. :/

  • Jaxon

Another possible way to fix the suspended download problem:

  • Jaxon

Mine is still be at 1GHz. I started an adb shell with the Android SDK and ran cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq and it showed 1000000.

For the people having problems with no download progress showing or stuck with the suspended download message, try switching back and forth between 4G and wifi. That fixed both problems for me this morning.

  • OZOSCAR83301

  • Anyone else having problems with the Text Messaging app (and Handcent) not loading after ICS upgrade? Also, can you customize the shortcuts on the lock screen?

    • l8kerjuan

same issues here.. you find any fixes yet??

    • JJC

I am also unable to use Handcent after the upgrade, even after an uninstall/reinstall. This sucks.

  • Joshua Berkowitz

My download paused and won’t start back up. Any way to jump start it again?

    • MattInPDX

      Try rebooting.

  • MattInPDX

Eff, update continuously fails even after doing a factory reset…

  • dp5

Battery drains extremely fast on 4g…haven’t been able to get any emails just keeps loading…Bluetooth issues when trying to listen to music thru my car

  • CaptM

Got a bit of a technical question here.
I started to manually update this morning (turned on 4g and wi-fi), just when the notice told me that the download was starting, I got a phone call that I had to take, now, I keep seeing the following: “Download suspended. Will resume shortly….” and nothing is happening, if I go back to manually start the download it tells me that “An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete.” (it’s been 3 hours now).
Is there anyway to force the download to stop and then restart it? I’ve tried shutting down and then restarting the phone about 4 times now with the same messages everytime.

    • Max

same issue I’m experiencing as well. Sucks. I’ve rebooted, stopped the “updater” process and restarted…always goes back to the error you mentioned. F it.

  • Jim McClain

cant believe there are that many that still have this phone,

    • LionStone

My step mom has it, I don’t know, I think she liked the form factor? I told my pop to get the RAZR and he did and he loves it and she likes hers too, so I’ll have to update it for her, if it doesn’t do it automatically.

  • matt

I just got mine at 1123 am in ocean springs Ms

  • Ant

    Have to unroot?

    • Simply download and install “Voodoo OTA Root Keeper” app from playstore (FREE) and it will temporarily unroot and apply the ICS update… After ICS updation, again run OTA Root Keeper and select “ReRoot” to again get Root access in ICS…

Worked for me in my Razr_ICS_Update…
